The charisma, the enthusiasm, the eloquence, the history coverage, didn't expect these videos, but after watching the Dr. Disrespect Bourbon review, I liked and followed. It's a great combination of passion for the drink, knowledge of the product, and execution of video editing that makes the transition smooth and palatable.
I king of love that the bottles on the bar in this shot are not just all allocated and hard to find bottles. Tons of highly available bottles being displayed sends the right message - this channel is not just for the most hardcore (and budget irresponsible) whiskey drinkers. Whiskey doesn't have to be "rare" to be good. Sometimes a great bottle is highly available and $25.
TJ I am new to bourbon collecting and have learned a lot from your videos. Thank you for that. Our county recently voted to allow liquor sales so we have four new liquor stores in a town of 25k people. In other words, I have had no problem finding any of the bourbons you have suggested.
When I visited the Buffalo Trace Distillery a few weeks ago with my wife and friends, we did a tour and sampling. Eagle Rare was the one we all liked the most. Blanton's was not given as a sample. Even my wife who is not a bourbon drinker liked it. I could not get it that day at the distillery, so I bought a bottle at a local retailer for way too much money. We opened the bottle last night with our friends and everyone absolutely loved it. We had some of my wife's delicious cheese cake before the tasting, so our taste buds may have been somewhat compromised, but it is a great bottle of sipping bourbon. The next time we go to the distillery, we live about an hour away, I'm going to try to go on a day when they are selling Eagle Rare. Thanks for the great videos.
Blantons is extremely overrated. I was so hyped when I found it (after visiting 10+ stores) got it home and tried it and was so let down.. bottle is really cool.. but eagle rare over blantons every day that ends in y, or a drink in my hand lol
@@scottiehamilton1699I’ve had Blanton’s that was okay and some that were exceptional. It’s a single barrel so there will always be some variance. Sadly I think it suffers pushback from the hype and expectations are set way too high. But on value nothing competes with Eagle Rare. 10 years at under $40 MSRP and the taste is always consistent and good. I’ve had better whiskey, but this one is my favorite.
they can be found easily in Brazil now! as a country with only a few whiskey options in general, I feel this is a great addition to our whiskey lovers! my bottle just arrived and here we are sipping while watching those reviews!
…one of the best reviews of bourbon. I tend to agree with all he says about Eagle Rare, but I would have given it 6 or 7 on the taste(I like Eagle Tare a lot). Also I think it would be higher on the list if he included a value for money score. Hope he will make a review of the Angles Envy and JD Barrel Strenght soon.
Its what really turned me on to bourbon. It is hands down my favorite bourbon. I always reach right past dozens of other bottles for it.. when i have it.
I’m actually impressed. The way you rate the spirits ends up looking real pro IMO. Seems like they fall in a predictable order, remarkable. Good job! Accents and intelligence are independent qualities regardless. Stereotypes sure last…. Enjoying your efforts, thanks.
I have worked in the beer industry, the wine industry and am getting into bourbon/ spirits for the first time, have done a small amount of distilling 2 times in my life but never got into it. I am now getting into bourbon and trying to build up a bourbon collection.
Found your channel yesterday, looking for reviews on this bourbon. Knowing it was the holidays, did not have high hopes shopping on New Year's Eve, but a random little neighborhood grocery store had 3 bottles for 42.99 yesterday! I've gone from Jim Beam to Buffalo Trace to Eagle rare now... This bottle did it 😂 I'm officially hooked...
i think i agree here. I bet if folks did a blind test they'd say something similar. I've always been sorta quiet about my thoughts on Eagle cuz i thought some of the same things. But i guess that's why bourbon's great, everyone's got their own favs. Great vid!
New subscriber. Have not been able to find Eagle Rare for about three months in OR or WA. In the last week I got three, a $35 bottle from an OR store and two for $55 each that my son found in a WA store. I have over 40 bottles of whiskey on my shelf and I try to always have an Eagle Rare.
I paid $90 for Blantons and $40 eagle rare. I preferred eagle rare over Blantons. I have an E.H. Taylor uncut barrel proof that I was gifted for Xmas. I plan to open that one for the new year
I’m just really starting my bourbon journey I had Blanton’s years ago at a Christmas party and really enjoyed it, so far I’ve added whellers special reserve, buffalo trace, bulleit frontier “was a gift” and now Eagle Rare to my collection. I’m really enjoying the eagle rare in fact while I type this but I feel like personally I like the whellers sr a little more
Strangely enough I get more of a cherry flavor instead of grape when I'm sipping on this. Personally from the different allocated bourbons I've tried, this has been my favorite. I also agree on wishing it was of a higher proof as well.
After sipping on things of higher proof, eagle rare tastes watered down. Or I got a counterfeit bottle and they watered it down. I have another store pick bottle that has more flavor but not by a crazy amount
Once you mentioned grape candy now that’s all I can smell on the nose! I’m in a state controlled state so we get it for $35. Definitely worth it at that price!
My father in law gave me my first bottle of eagle rare. I just bought my second bottle because I found it at totally wine for $42, but other stores sell it for $70-$90 in my area (NJ)
Tater bottle, was my go to mixer from 2004 to around 2015 when the tater boom made it rare. Not great neat, so many better shelfers. Thank you for a true review of this bottle.
I like this. I wish they made it 100 proof though. My sweet spot In Whiskey. That Kentucky Owl is hooting in the background “drink me, hoot hoot” Great review
This will be my second bottle of bourbon after a bottle of Bulleit that my wife gifted me for Christmas. I'm only at the start of my journey, so I'm trying to combine quality with a lower price point. No idea what I'll think of this, but I feel it's got a good enough reputation to at least try.
Glad I was able to get a back up but I got sweet notes with a hint of maybe pear but the most insane part is how watered down it feels so smooth and very very easy sip. 8.5 almost a 9 .
Love Eagle Rare. I'm looking for a store pic. So far, I've not found one. Got 4 regular bottles. I'd say I got a true single barrel in one of them, but a nice store pic could be good.
I’m from the UK, and you would be underwhelmed by the selection of bourbon here but I’ve just bought a bottle of eagle rare. I do prefer scotch but I found it pleasant to drink but I agree with you TJ the distillers notes are hard to match when you taste it before reading what they say the tasting notes are. 90 proof in the UK is on the higher end of proof but I found it thin on the pallet which is unusual for what we describe as stronger whiskeys
I just got my first bottle of ER & I gotta say you are spot on! Had I watched this video before buying I might not of tracked it down (I don’t live in GA….thank god). It smells great but it’s taste is much to be desired. It’s not bad it’s just kinda bland.
I dont know and even why im watching this dude but from now im going subscribe cuz seems really interesting to get some informations etc Greetings from Czech republic
Your experience aligns with mine. It's a good average bourbon profile with nothing that stands out. I actually prefer Buffalo Trace if I had to choose one.
Whoever orders booze for my local Walmart is the man. I get this stuff for 35 bucks all day long. It's a great whiskey especially for that price point.
I really like ER and Woodford. Interesting they are tied on your list. Woodford I can get anywhere in San Antonio but ER is marked up to $75 + here when you can find it.
We get it on most drops here in VA, but if I really want it I'll drive up the road to DC and get it. I like the taste just fine and I agree that it's above regular Buffalo Trace and behind Blanton's in terms of my preference
Eagle is starting to drop on a consistent basis in the Dallas area. It goes fast but is usually available for a couple hours. I totally agree with the scoring of it. Right between BT and Blanton’s.
My dad always finds Eagle Rare easily when he’s in Georgia at local liquor store. Some how, the guy gets a ton in. I am that guy that reads the notes on the bottle especially when I bought the Redemption Sir Lee. They got my wine side with the Sir Lee bourbon.
I didn't know the history of eagle rare with respect to WT101! Super fascinating. I've had a few bottles of eagle rare over the years and at MSRP, I think it's a good deal, but I would never pay more than around $40 for it, and even 40 is pushing it imo, I'd rather have 2 bottles of WT101, or spend a bit more on rare breed or maybe an OF 1920. but hey, taste is subjective, and I recognize it's popular for a reason! Great video, as always.
I just bought a 1.75 liter bottle of Eagle Rare that’s 59.62 ounces for $90.00 ! They had a 750 ml for $75. It was a no brainer. A bit hard to pour but wow delicious
$75 is typical for Eagle Rare in my state. It's almost never available close to MSRP. We do seem to get a better allocation of EH Taylor Small Batch. I have bought that at close to MSRP over the last year.
I always get notes of cake frosting from it. Like that cheap, pillsbury whipped frosting stuff that you eat with a spoon at 2am in your boxers when the family is asleep. I think that's what they call the "candied almonds" in the website description.
It's certainly the best value bourbon here in the UK. I can get it whenever I want at my local supermarket for £30. As a comparison, Russell's Reserve 10 is £70, and extremely hard to find. We don't have a great selection of bourbon here, unfortunately.
I read somewhere that someone actually asked Susannah Hubler while doing a barrel pick, who told them that it's now batched, albeit a much smaller batch than BT.
In Washington, the liquor store is Wal mart . So it's very difficult to get real high end booze. One of my favorite flavors is butterscotch so if you have something with that type of profile I would be interested

Since Eagle Rare is made from a blend from 2 barrels it would be a double barrel bourbon. Not a good bottle designation. But Double Barrel straight Kentucky Bourbon would be a pretty badass brand name. Especially with a double barreled shotgun illustration on the label.

Probably the objectively best bourbon in their lineup, next to EH Taylor.
