Interesting lineup this year, I'm looking forward to Asus, MSI and Alienware laptops the most. But it's disappointing that there isn't that much AMD laptops and Legion-laptops won't have a mini LED or OLED display options. Hopefully there will be AMD laptops later this year.
Agreed Razer was a fiasco this year when you see the costs of their now heavier and thicker 16 and 18, and the other product set ,14, 15, 17 is now obsolete, not even a 40 series refresh just left to die, what were they thinking?
I agree with your point on Razer on how it's heavier, Razer was meant to be Sleek but portable. But I think the Blade 14 will become the new Blade 15. 16:10 Screen, bigger body overall which means better cooling and *fingers crossed* more upgradability. I just hope they don't screw it up. 16/18in will be for those who want a true desktop replacement, the 14in will be the all rounder.
I have the 2021 blade 14 and it's amazing. But saying that, having the option to have it a little bit thicker to have a full powered GPU. As there older ones like mine and even last year is only 100watt GPU... this makes a difference.. I'd jump at it, not sure why a few people are saying other wise. He didn't go into much detail. They will have full powered GPU, better cooling, especially the 18 which has a third fan. I think the 16 would be a great middle, becuase I've had the 14 for over a year and love it.. but when trying to do productively stuff, the 14 screen can be pretty cramped and hard to read fine print. I'd say the 16 would be really nice for both gaming and work. For me, I would be happy with a little bit thicker. It's the build quality that I love, the steel chassis! Saying that, I got mine $1200 off, if it wasn't for that. I probably would have done MSI again
@@Everyday-man I can completely agree with all your points. The 14in is portability but does get cramped, I do hope by giving it a 16:10 screen this year *fingers crossed* it’ll make the overall body bigger giving it better cooling and maybe better upgradability.
MSI's insistence of not offering advanced optimus cause they are too tight to pay the license fee is going to eventually bite them in the butt. What a shame as they have so much else going for them. I can't believe I am saying this but the Razers look interesting this year. Asus 18" or Acer 18" have piqued my interest the most though. Let's hope they truly deliver.
Such a shame so few AMD advantage laptops announced. Like the case of the G14: I've seen a lot of people cheering for Nvidia GPUs. When they will see the prices the grin will be wiped of their faces. It would be nice if these manufacturers would offer the option to configure the hardware ourselves. Like I get it, some people who want mobility do work that require CUDA, but these are gaming laptops after all, and for gaming Radeon GPUs are fine too and also less expensive.
I have watched your channel and listened to you for quite awhile now. You calmly present your observations, which I appreciate. I think your channel is excellent.
Not a single miniLED 16" AMD 7000 based laptop except for the 2023 ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 ?! Very unfortunate to see, anyone noticed another laptop with such specs?
These screens are only found on laptops designed for content creation, not gaming. That is why my Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 7 2022 does not have one, even though the specs sheet shows the option. Weird. However, some IPS screens have gotten really good over the years.
I am most excited about Razer, IDK what you are talking about. They increased the thickness in order to accommodate for the full 175W TGP. On top of that the Blade 16 has a Dual Mode display that gives you the best of both worlds. 4K@120Hz or 1080@240Hz, nothing beats having those options in a laptop. These new 4090 laptops are going to match desktop 4080s so most have had to go up in size which is why we see 16” being so significant this year. The Blade is finally no longer skimped, having a much lower TGP vs the competition really didn’t make sense.
What I(and most other people I'm guessing) really wants to know is the pricing of the laptops. It's annoying as hell not knowing if I should buy something now or wait
Thanks Jarrod... I'm one of the people that are disappointed in no OLED options. But why hasn't Alienware included at least the Mini-LED options in its laptops? Surprised you didn't mention that as you did for Lenovo. Also, the 16inch 120hz OLED screens exist as some comments mentioned they can be found on content creation laptops. Eitherway, please give us reviews of these Mini-LED screens, especially the Razer dual mode 4k one. We want to know how they compare to the deep blacks and gorgeous colors of OLEDs. Thanks!

Actually butthurt Lenovo don’t have a mini LED option in the L7. I don’t want a razer blade and ASUS putting every single port around the sides is a massive turn off. Ugh 2023 is a bit poop for what I want tbh.
Hey, the 7i Pro had a miniLED option on the pdf datasheet, last week! The Latest Asus Duo is stuck at 2K once again. What happened to the promise of 4K 120/FHD 240 hybrid monitors. Why was the concept ditched shortly after the first few releases of Duos sold from last year Duos? The whole last year, from launch, the 4K Duo model everybody wanted was sold out & never restocked. Only 2K variants were shown available.
Pricing was the issue. Basically, the screen made the price go up too much, but folks werent interested in buying them. Seems in the laptop scene, higher refresh rates at a range of about $1500 - $2000 is the sweet spot. You go above that and its not a big seller, but more of a hyper niche product. Theres also the fact that having 4K 120 screens does put pressure on the battery.
@@Synkhan Pressure on the battery seems redundant, I wouldn't be gaming on the Laptop's battery a lot anyhow. people usually do that while its plugged in, lol
@@tadams587 Trust me, I completely agree with you there, but it is still something that is usually considered. @jarrod you mentioned no Mini LED for Lenovo. Unless I'm reading everything wrong, their top tier Legion 7i Pro will have a Mini LED option. Reading from their spec sheet, it will be: Legion Pro 7i_16IRX8H - 16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600) MiniLED; 16:10 (165 Hz / 3 ms Response Time / 100% sRGB / 1100 nits

@Kyradeen Howlfeather Exactly. The only screen that was sold was the 165 hz screen from 2021. I wish that there was that 240 hz screen from this year but with a MiniLED screen for those who want a bit more color gamut or HDR support. But they seem to be doing nearly everything wrong this year. I'm not hopeful for Legion this year, but I guess we'll have to see what the rumored Legion 9 brings...
I’m disappointed there’s even less AMD Advantage laptops this year. By far my favourite of the bunch was the Delta 15, which was HUGELY underrated. My brother did got the low-end Victus 15 with the RX6500, which I of course persuaded hard and ended up saving him a couple hundred dollars than buying a similarly spec’d Nvidia+Intel combo. Making things worse was Southeast Asia’s stock and pricing strategy which was even more outrageous considering their love for those Nvidia+Intel things.
@@Supcharged I wish they did a refresh on the Delta, along with a RX6750 (if that’s even possible?). As I recall, only Dell and ASUS did some refresh on their AMD Advantage laptops.
Absolutely agree. I have the G15 Advantage edition with a 6800M which is still a monster and I would've loved to see a continuation of something like that
I love the concept of the x16 flow. I'm hoping at some point they release one with a mid tier gpu for a reasonable price. I'm tempted to buy into the ecosystem, since the external gpus are backwards compatible. A bit of nice upgradeability for a laptop. And the form factor is killer.
Its good to see laptop manufacturers giving mux switch, high quality 100% DCI-P3 screens,Wifi 6E,type c charging even in the lowest budget models. Right now even laptops upto ~1200 are shipped with garbage screens.
Lenovo moving back to 4 type A ports is a win to me. I literally need to use a hub because my mouse and headset use both A ports, so if I need to use a thumb drive, or anything else, I'm screwed. Meanwhile I only need 1-2 C ports personally.
@@d1kgaws12 I'd rather just have sufficient ports to start with rather than having to carry something with me. My 4 port usb A hub was like $15. I'm still screwed if I forget it,.
The problem is that I think 3 USB-C & 3 USB-A would have perfect. The Legion 7 chassis and its ports but with the right side USB-C being USB-A instead would have been perfect. Unfortunately, Legion just took a really bad turn.

1. ASUS G14 2. Acer Predator Helios 16 3. ASUS M16 4. Legion Pro 7 5. Acer Nitro 16 These are my top 5 so far. Will definitely be buying a 2023 G14 with either a 4050 or 4060. It'll sit right next to my 2022 Legion 5i as a secondary laptop and be my main travel laptop.
If Asus G14 isn't full AMD, it's not worth it. The experience that I've with G14 2022 is something else, I never expected a windows laptop to run with this level of performance and battery life. Whilst on Linux it's a different beast!
Apparently, recently there are issues with AMD GPU drivers and "Adrenaline Software" on Windows. How is your experience in general and within last few days? If I recall correctly, ASUS has their own version of drivers or something.

Really excited to see how the G16 performs, seems like the perfect laptop to replace my old Nitro 5. Unfortunately it will probably be out of my budget, even if I wait for black Friday deals.
Lenovo even already offers a 1000 nit 240Hz VRR mini-LED option on their 2022 Legion 7 series in other markets. The fact that don't offer it here is pathetic.
I might as well wait for the price of 2021 & 2022's gaming laptops to drop. MSI GE series, they don’t look gamery, design IMO is very subtle. RGBs can be turned off completely as well as customized to your needs. ie turnoff rgb bar and leave keyboard at single color.
Funny, in recent times there are rarely any Laptops I would consider to be "transformer-like" designs. I mean there is now definitely more stealthy office type looking maschines than gamery looking ones. So there is plenty to choose. Im in the same boat, except with the acer helios 300 same specs except 240Hz QHD screen and i7-12700H, thinking return to get Helios 16 with 4080, 32GB ram and Mini LED display but I’m afraid it will cost me $1000 more even at Black Friday pricing lol.
This year seems to be focused on having laptops that are desktop replacement capable of handling full desktop CPUs and GPUs. While they are portable devices they are not meant for extreme mobility. You can easily move them from desk to desk, room to room but they are not for carrying with you when on the move and on the go outside. The good thing is this year’s sizes and weight will only shrink further and present an exciting starting point for what the future holds with each new advanced process node. My pick from CES is more a creator laptop but very capable of gaming, the ASUS ZenBook Pro 16X OLED the Supernova SOM has me curious.
There's literally no good AMD Ryzen option yet, apart from the m16, which does appear to be delayed for the Ryzen models (but at least they have them). And to think DELL is the one bringing AMD, when they were Intel's biggest customer! 😳

Exactly my thoughts. Very less AMD.
Very less amd this year. Every company is going with intel hx processors.
is that a problem ? I more fan of AMD but as a beginner I do no understand it. Is that true that intel always gets hotter than AMD?
@@nhatanhvu8847 yea intel probably pay them to use their trash cpus just like in the 2000's
G14 and m16 does
Agreed Razer was a fiasco this year when you see the costs of their now heavier and thicker 16 and 18, and the other product set ,14, 15, 17 is now obsolete, not even a 40 series refresh just left to die, what were they thinking?
Exited about those Asus ones! Went and bought a minimum spec laptop for my bachelors and will try and resell that once those badboys comes out!
I did the same thing
4060 laptop < 4050 desktop, 4070 laptop < 4060 desktop, 4080 laptop < 4070 desktop, 4090 laptop < 4070 ti desktop.
Another one:
4060 laptop specs < 4050 desktop specs, 4070 laptop specs < 4060 desktop specs, 4080 laptop specs < 4070 desktop specs, 4090 laptop specs =< 4080 desktop specs. Anybody don't buy this shit.
2020s HP Omen was a step in the right direction for the company. Too bad they can't seem to keep the momentum. :(
I have the Hp 2020 with RTX 2070 and it’s a good all-rounder. But we need a new chassis

The Dell G line isnt bad at all for those looking for a respectable budget gaming laptop
I love the insomnium shirt, I listen to winters gate all the time and was shocked to see you wearing it!

You calmly present your observations, which I appreciate.
I think your channel is excellent.

@@JarrodsTech Hi jarrod. Do you think it is necessary to calibrate gaming laptop batteries to decrease a wear level and preserve battery overall?
Not a single miniLED 16" AMD 7000 based laptop except for the 2023 ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 ?!
Very unfortunate to see, anyone noticed another laptop with such specs?
There are definitely 16" OLED screens at 120Hz out in the market. Eg. ASUS Vivobook Pro, ZenBook Pro, and Proart Studiobook
True. I mention at 5:57 that it's not happening in gaming laptops.
These screens are only found on laptops designed for content creation, not gaming. That is why my Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 7 2022 does not have one, even though the specs sheet shows the option. Weird. However, some IPS screens have gotten really good over the years.
Yeah, but I think all of them lack g-sync.
Exactly. I am more disappointed in Razer s**tshow of customer support.
What I(and most other people I'm guessing) really wants to know is the pricing of the laptops. It's annoying as hell not knowing if I should buy something now or wait
I am looking forward to seeing what HP does, as it will likely be more budget friendly.
I gotta admit the HP 13inch spectre 11th gen intel had a cool setting that it didn't boil your balls while being on your lap
If you're looking for a respectable budget line, you really should check out the Dell G line (ex: G15)
Thanks!
The lack of OLED or miniLED is a disadvantage on my Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 7 2022. However, it is still an excellent IPS screen.
It would be interesting to know how laptops are competing for creative applications such as blender and co
Nice video! As someone with high mobility while casual gaming in between, I can't wait to see which one will be the best 14" gaming laptop...
the new Asus Strix 16/18 design looks clean! I hope they worth the wait, but prolly still very pricy lol
Yeah I want to get the strix 16, I checked on their website and there sister the 4090 option

What happened?
4:45 anyone else like the flat back design more compared to the exhaust vents sticking out?
I think the 2022 model was the ultimate laptop. The 2023 ruined everything good about Legions...
Companies dont want to be that one company with the laptop that cant last less than 3 hours off battery. Take a look at most of them, 3 hours is like the bottom of the barely they are willing to take. Understand that I mean general use, not gaming. A gaming laptops components still utilise a ton of power even when not gaming. But thats just an assumption from my end. There may be other reasons this isnt the norm.
Guess not waiting for legion 7i 2023 was a good choice. Got mine legion 7i 2022 on September on big discount.
After looking at XMG’s pricing, It seems like we should abandon Nvidia this year. This is just disrespectful and disgusting from Nvidia
Local shop where I live are already advertising on their websites the higest spec legion I can see is £3999 only screen option is wqxga quad HD (2560 x 1600) 240hz 3ms response time with overdrive 100% rbg 500 nits.. Might look to see if any other shops are advertising other options
I know, it is weird. The specs sheet shows it, but it is not available, at least yet.
They also said MiniLED would come to Gen7 7i, but it never came
@Kyradeen Howlfeather Exactly.
MSI didn't even make a single Ryzen 6000 series laptop last year.
SEA for the win. And yes, unless you live in Singapore, some stocks sre difficult to get.
@@Supcharged I wish they did a refresh on the Delta, along with a RX6750 (if that’s even possible?). As I recall, only Dell and ASUS did some refresh on their AMD Advantage laptops.
@@joelconolly5574 AMEN. Singapore always got the good stuff though.
You can buy usb a to c adapters, and they’re not extremely expensive, but they’re still not free.
@@d1kgaws12 I'd rather just have sufficient ports to start with rather than having to carry something with me. My 4 port usb A hub was like $15. I'm still screwed if I forget it,.

Legion Pro 7 will likely only be offered in Asia. So it's likely DOA.

I 100% agree with Jarrod on the Legion 7i. It was the perfect laptop for most people. Now it’s just another average gaming laptop. Disappointing.
