I have to agree, recently bought a LOQ and it's pretty good in terms of performance/compromises (no RGB keyboard but still white light, 60whr battery but battery life on a HX processor would be bad anyways). It has an RTX 4060 with the max TGP available and they also give you the opportunity to overclock & undervolt it via the Vantage software. Also they are able to push the i7 13650hx a lot making it on par with a i7 12700k in terms of cinebench scores
Got the Zephyrus G16 with 4080 here. It's such an amazing thin gaming laptop, though it's quite pricey. I also love how it doesn't scream gaming laptop with its design. Oh, plus point for a third party lightweight software (to replace Armory Crate) called G Helper. I managed to make my G16 last 10ish hours when doing office work with G helper.
Just bought an ASUS Strix G18 for $2200 Black Friday sale on Best Buy. Has RTX 4080, 14th Gen Intel i9 HX processor, 32GB RAM & 2 TB SSD. Best value ever!
Yo, I also got this sick gaming laptop in the middle of the year, and let me tell ya, it's a total beast! The graphics are insane, the build quality is top-notch, the display is gorgeous, and it's never given me any trouble. Best purchase ever, totally worth the money! And for specs: Gpu : rtx 4060 Cpu: i914900hx Ram 16gb( added an extra ram stick) so 32gb in total. 2x M.2 Ssd 1tb gen 4 Display 165hz
My 2023 i9/4060 Neo 16 is still going strong. I had to re-metal the CPU after a year, I started getting higher CPU temp deltas and 90C balanced mode thermal throttle started happening at lower power levels (70 ish W). Some of the LM had pooled next to the CPU but at least it was still safe trapped inside the barrier. Still no undervolting, which is still my biggest gripe.
@@goldenzoro9363hey, I’ve heard that intel processors have been getting some issues. I’m planning to buy a new laptop, can you tell me if it’s worth to get an intel or AMD processor?
Probably a combination of shipping, import tax, tariffs etc. very few places are as cheap as the US. I would look at his budget video, maybe look around for more advice and check the prices of the models he lists
Really looking forward to upgrade from my legion 5 with the GTX 1660ti over the Black Friday/Christmas season, but boy… the price to ship stuff here to Jamaica makes it so daunting. Import duty and all that stuff, but I really believe it’s time. The 1660 is still playing a lot of games fairly well but I definitely think the time is right to upgrade. Thanks for a video like this Jarrod!
Is it hard to travel to florida and buy one in personat like bestbuy or microcenter in miami possibly and bring it bavk with you? Get a mini vacation trip outta it instad of paying for crazy shipping?
@ it’s pretty tough getting a US visa here. Costs alot for the interview too and there’s no guarantee you’ll get it and the fee is. Non refundable. So yea Florida sounds like a good route but still a ton of red tape. I may just explore seeing if a friend of mine that will be visiting here could bring it down for me
@@kiekeyzhaha hell yea i hope your friend can help you out! Is it not easier to just build your own pc instead? Why do you want a laptop over a desktop?
@ proper PC parts would run into the same issues with shipping. Parts are here but they get marked up really bad because of customs. I’d prefer a laptop cause I like the portability. I’m on the go like 60% of the time. So a laptop works better for me.
As a 1650m owner it is fairly annoying. If you are used to the performance, but want something more portable I would also consider office PCs with good igpus and over 16 gigs of ram.
@@RANDOMgamerPRO Have not gone above 94 degrees and that’s normal. I’d be worried if I got to a 100 lol. The thermal throttling limit is 110 however. What I learnt is to always use turbo mode when gaming.
Hey Jarrod- I love your content and everything. And I have always seen you praise the LOQ series. But I'd like to hear your opinion about the dead motherboard issue that plagues the LOQ series (it seems to be more prevalent in the Intel machines). It's a great laptop but I am really hesitant to buy it when I see people all over reddit complaining about their 3 time returned LOQ having a dead motherboard. Hope you see this and address the issue because otherwise, this is a great bang for a buck machine.
When I looked at it, a vast majority of the posts about it were from India. It feels like it is another case of inferior versions of similar looking products being sold in markets like India and Brazil as it happens frequently with TVs, laptops and everything related to sound.
@Karthik-pn2yj there's no way you just compared a brand new gaming laptop that someone may not need to someone not having a home. If your homeless that's something you can't fix easily life is hard and it's not easy to get by I'm a student I should understand. But dude a gaming laptop i literally saved up 2 paychecks to get mine it's not that deep I'm tired of seeing people complain about the price of tech items just save up if it takes a while to get it then that's ok simple as that, when you get it all that hard work will be worth it.
Dude! Straight to the damn point! I love it! I was expecting a couple of plugs and a cheeky intro, so i went to make a bowl of warm beans. I ended up sitting right back down! Thank you for the info!
I just got the Acer Predator Helios 16 back in May. Very good overall, biggest gripe is definitely the battery life. If Acer gets a better battery, and this laptop lasts well for at least 4 years, I would probably buy from them again, but if not I would probably by Lenovo or Asus next time.
It's not battery size, power consumption is just not well optimised in this model. E.g. That legion 5 gets +75% runtime with a 10whr smaller battery It's even worse on my 2023 i9 13900HX/4060 Neo 16. I bought it for CPU power not battery life so it doesn't bother me too much and it's still way better than the desktop socket Clevos I've used for most of the last ~15yrs
@@greebj Ah, that makes since, so yeah I'd buy from them again if they optimized their battery usage better. IK for gaming ofc the battery has to be plugged in, but when you're just browsing I def would like at least 3 hours of battery life.
still happy with my MSI Raider GE76! 12th gen i7 with rtx 3070Ti :) a beast! (only RGB lightning bar needs to be changed since parts of it won't light up)
I have the Legion 7i for about 4 months, and it is almost perfect! The glacier white slim body is just beautiful, and playing games on it simply DESTROYS my Ps5 both in image quality and frame rates. The only thing is the battery life that will last only a few hours. But that's what you get when you have a i9 running in the background.
Hi,congrats on your beautiful White glacier Legion, would you mind tell the spec you have and how noisy are the fans please? I heard I7 is even better for cooling than I9. I don’t mind the battery as will use as desktop just with moving around the house 😃
The loq is quite interesting indeed. It's literally the only 4060 laptop for that price and honestly looks like it might be worth it. I see that the version with 4070 is like 120$ more than the 4060 one. Is that one worth it, or nah?
Got the MSI Titan HX and this is by far the best gaming laptop provided you're willing to pay the money it costs. But if you get it with 32gb ram and 2tb ssd version it won't cost overly much even with the 4090 gpu. What makes this laptop the best is it's cooling. It's got massive vapor chamber and with a proper liquid metal mod the temperatures can drop down by up to 20c and it will never thermal throttle again on top of boosting higher clocks and overclocks. Cinebench r23 score on my titan after LM mod is 38000 with only undervolt and no OC.
Thanks for the video. I bought a Legion Pro 7i and have been having a blast with it; despite the few quality of life downgrades compared to the legion 7. Intel i9, RTX4090 32gb ram 2tb ssd for 2.4K USD. Super pricey, super premium, but I love the device.
Be careful with the strix g16, the 1080p 165hz screen option is 280 nits with very high response times and an insane backlight bleed. I've learned that the hard way.

If you want a bigger machine, yes it's my pick out of the 18" models, which you'll see this Friday when I rank all laptops I tested this year with a tier list.
Yes, that's my question as well. What is the "Best gaming laptop money can buy?" I assume it's the Scar 18 or the MSI Raider. I've been saving for a long time and I want to buy exactly the best gaming laptop money can buy,. My worry is cooling and performance. Here where I live (Norway) it's almost impossible to buy the Scar with an AMD CPU. They just don't have them. And ordering from Amazon or whatnot means the import tax will make it even more expensive. Like, I was trying to somehow buy the Scar 17 with the X3D CPU but I haven't found a way to buy it without going through customs. It was just never sold in my country. This all means I have to buy Intel and I don't really trust Intel with "thermals" as all the Intel gaming laptops I ever owned or saw were thermal throttling like crazy. Always "bumping their heads" on the 100 C limit. AMD runs much cooler in comparison. I don't care much about "portability" because even though I travel for work I always travel in a way that I can carry a 17'' laptop with me without any problems. It has to be portable as I can't take a monitor and a PC case with me, but when I'm settled in I use it always plugged in anyway. I guess we'll see on Friday.
@@pabloalbertosilvestri929 You can buy any Legion based on AMD 7000 or 8000 (no difference between generations) because now they cheaper than last gen and still more than enougt powerful. I bought Legion Slim 5 R7-7840HS\4060\16 RAM\ 1TB SSD\ 240Hz screen and this is space ship for me.
The 2024 Legion Pro 7/7i got an upgrade to a 100% DCI-P3 screen, giving it the creator credentials the 2023 model sorely lacked. Edit: The AMD Zen 5 version of the Asus G16 is available in the US with an RTX 4070 and 32 GB of RAM. Problem is, it's really expensive even when on sale. You may as well spend a bit more for the Intel Core Ultra version with RTX 4080 at that point.
Could you please highlight the key differences between the ROG Zephyrus G16 and the ROG Strix G16? I’m not entirely clear about the design priorities of these two laptops. Thank you so much!
Zephyrus is the always going to be the high end model and in this case it has a OLED screen so it’s a more premium laptop series compared to strix models.
Thanks for all your hard work, both here and on Reddit! Personally, I'm waiting for the G14 to go on sale. Unfortunately, I can't find the 2023 version (upgradable RAM) anywhere except Amazon, and that's still going for $1900.
It all boils down to price & your location. At my place for example G14 for some reason costs as much as Flow X13 and in some variants even the ProArt PX13. Also a lot of laptops that were decent & in good configuration are already sold out (cuz Christmas). So if you are planing to get a laptop, but you are not in a hurry, then maybe wait for post Christmas sales or maybe even for the 1st quarter of 2025 as new stuff is coming out - and when new stuff is out, older gen is usually sold at a huge discount. Btw I am surprised that TUF A14 did not make it to the list.
I'd love to buy me an Asus G16 but there are no good deals here in Germany at all, pretty much no discounts even on (pre-) black friday. Not willing to fork out about 2500 EUR for a laptop...
My Lenovo Legion 7 from 2021 with AMD just died, they told me it was a regular problem with AMD processors, but apparently my RAM slots were also dead. What a shame it only lasted a bit over 3 years, I'm definitely not getting laptop with AMD processor again though.
Here in the UK I was able to get the Acer Predator Helios 16 with RTX 4080 for £2050 - whilst Lenovo Pro 7i costs £2300 with the latest BF discount. At these prices, I definitely think the Acer is the bettter laptop - it even came with 2 TB as opposed to the Lenovo's 1 TB...
Jarrod why don't you consider the issues with HX 13/14th gen(which are just desktop class CPUs slapped onto laptops), even with the bios and microcode fixes people are still experiencing continuous issues with the same
I'm not surprised that legion (slim) 7 will be the best tier from all of them. I mean, it doesn't have highest specs but it's just feel really premium to the touch. I have one from 2023 version (legion slim 7i) and love it! Even the 2023 model with intel have all 3 usb A with 10gbps, which is for some reason they give only 5gbps in 2024 legion 7 model.
I was recently in USA for the first time on a work trip and I hit a great promo - Victus 15 with RX6550M and Ryzen 5 7000 series for the awesomly low price of 429USD. It is suprisingly nice for such dirt cheap price and it comes with an adequate and efficient Ryzen APU, not some shitty power hungry Intel crap. The GPU should be similar to RTX3050 4GB, but still don't have some time to properly test it.The display is also good, even though I had some reservations from some interviewers. All I needed to do is put some extra 8 Gigs RAM (it was about 25 EUR locally) and swap the 1TB SSD from my old laptop and voila - a cheap budget gaming machine. The Lenovo looks not bad either, but unfortunately couldn't get good offers on my short time in USA. Americans get awesome Black Friday deals on laptops, in my homecountry (Bulgaria) such laptops are at least 50-60% more expensive, even on "holiday deals".

Every video of yours from 2022 talks about Lenovo LOQ. But you didn't address the issue of the motherboard burnouts that are happening all over the world with Lenovo LOQ. Don't suggest laptops because you are getting commissions from Lenovo. We use our hard-earned money on these
I went down a huge rabbit hole just searching "Loq motherboard" new and old. Yeah Lenovo has got a huge issue and they're definitely staying quiet. It's almost to the level where we need @GamersNexus on it! 🤠
Just becuase you don't watch all my videos doesn't mean I haven't addressed it. I didn't talk about it here because there's nothing more to say. The last LOQ video I did literally has timestamp 9:44 LOQ Motherboard Dying Issue? That said if you really care I go into it in Friday's upcoming video where I rank all 21 gaming laptops I tested this year, but spoiler, I doubt it's an issue, so relax. As for commissions, you're right about that we do get paid, but for the wrong reason. You see it's in my best interest to suggest good gaming laptops. If you return them or they break I don't get paid and viewers aren't likely to trust me next time. Ultimately I don't care what laptop you buy, Lenovo or any other brand, do what ever is best for you. Oh and LOQ came out in 2023 btw.
The LOQ is really amazing bang for the buck. The only falls of the LOQ would be the screen bleeding and the 60WHr battery. Got mine for 900 EUR for i7 13650hx/RTX4060/24GB RAM/1TB SSD during Black Friday. Usually this config is close to 1200 EUR where I live

I am so happy and proud to see the G16 up there in 1st place. Excellent work Jarrod as always. I was not expecting that. I've been going back and forth between a Legion pro 7i, the 9i and a Razer Blade 16. But the Zephyrus I think is an excellent balance of effiency and performance. The dimensions are unbeatable and the OLED really has the wow factor. The Razer has a lot of bad feedback on QC issues and customer support. The 7i has an IPS which lacks the wow factor, and poor battery life. The 9i is bulky (depth wise), same issues as 7i ... and the miniled has a slower response time for shooters. I think 11ms measured.
Buying my Nitro 16 new from Officeworks for $979 in February is a pretty hard to beat. I gave it an extra 16GB Ram for $59 from Mwave I think, and I threw in 2x 2TB 7000MB/s M.2 drives and it's a pretty broadly capable machine. If the jump to a 4070 wasn't so disproportionately high, I wouldn't have ended up with an unbalanced laptop in terms of high speed storage.
Jarod, your analysis and presentations and eventual conclusions have helped myself and my coworkers purchase gaming laptops. We've had 0 issues and your recommendations have been spot on. Loving the Lenovo Legion series and can't complain at all. You are a true gem in the YT Tech Influencer community. Keep the vids coming. Wishing you more and more success, and can't wait to celebrate with you and the rest of your fans when you hit the 1M mark (Honestly surprised you havent hit it yet)
I got a 4060 laptop as an xmas present and i really like it. Hp omen so it's deff midrange and some ppl have issues. When I got it I immediately said oh man I need to build a desktop (as I've wanted 1440p for a while) i am throwing money away to save for that but honestly with how much I like mine I may just get a higher end 40 series if they get marked down a tad after the 50s come out. Or the 50 just id rather have a 4080 or 90 get a serious extended warranty and just be set. I will deff run this 4060 till it dies but im aware of its limitations.
Relibility should probably be factored in too. I had a spec'd out Legion 7. Very light use and it had terrible reliability. Black screen issues, failure to boot, all within the first year. Similar issues other customers had with this product line. I'd suggest trying one of other brands on this list.
I made the mistake of buying a laptop from B&H without checking the return policy. I'm stuck with the laptop cause I broke the seal on the box. I guess I should stick to the places I know that have an actually return policy. And of course the brand I bought isn't in your video. I always learn something. Thanks
The absolutely most important thing when it comes to gaming laptops is temperature. You need to manage as low temperatures as possible. For that it is mandatory to undervolt laptop's CPU but to be able to do it, the CPU cannot be locked. Unfortunately many Intel's CPUs in laptops are locked these days. Another important thing is not buying thin versions of laptops because they cannot keep good temperatures.
The 240hz OLED panels are an important point for me. I basically only play competitive fps games and it looks great too. So the Zephyrus G16 wins hands down but I’m not in a rush to buy it. I’m really hoping Lenovo adds this panel to their Legion 7s next year. Because other than the panel I just prefer Lenovo in everything.
How about a US laptop sales survey over the Black Friday weekend? What machines were purchased, where they were purchased, and how many were purchased? The retailers and the manufacturers should have the numbers by now.

Seems like region specific, in Malaysia LOQ have the lowest return rate, meanwhile Victus & Nitro have higher return rate
India only
When I looked at it, a vast majority of the posts about it were from India. It feels like it is another case of inferior versions of similar looking products being sold in markets like India and Brazil as it happens frequently with TVs, laptops and everything related to sound.
@@arthasfrost where do you see the return rates?
the screen issue is more serious problem. everyone I know with LOQ 12th gen got it. The only remedy is to replace the LCD. sadness

So happy with my MSI GT77 Titan RTX 4080 on deal
It's that time of the year again.
E.g. That legion 5 gets +75% runtime with a 10whr smaller battery
It's even worse on my 2023 i9 13900HX/4060 Neo 16.

Mate, my friend bought a 4060 LOQ for USD equivalent of $1,184. Prices here in India are sky high. I bought a 3050 4gb lenovo ideapad for about $730
import tax contributes to the cost
Beside the USA everywhere is same
The loq is quite interesting indeed. It's literally the only 4060 laptop for that price and honestly looks like it might be worth it. I see that the version with 4070 is like 120$ more than the 4060 one. Is that one worth it, or nah?
Not just here in India but people from Europe and other places are paying the same prices
i bought asus tuf gaming a 15 with ryzen 9 cpu and rtx 4070. Upgraded the RAM to 64 GB (2x32) and it works fine❤
I'm using a LOQ 15 with RTX 4050 6GB and a 13th Gen Core i7 and I'm very happy with the performance.

Hello Can you please also do a video for good 2023 models that we should look out for in 2024 black friday sales
Judging by overall performance, 10:00 , is it correct to assume the ASUS SCAR 18 is the best laptop one can buy in 2024?
If you want a bigger machine, yes it's my pick out of the 18" models, which you'll see this Friday when I rank all laptops I tested this year with a tier list.
@@JarrodsTech Really excited for that video!
Yes, that's my question as well. What is the "Best gaming laptop money can buy?"
I assume it's the Scar 18 or the MSI Raider.
THE g16 speakers, trackpad, screen are probably the best i am satisfied with and battery life is great too for a gaming laptop.
My top 2024 laptop is the Asus A16, mainly because it's one of the few that actually comes with a fast AMD CPU: 7845HX
