    I think the thing with Monoblos poaching could make an excellent story. For example, you could learn that the Guild has been trying to preserve Monoblos for decades by attempting to make its memory fade from the minds of the general public so that the symbolism behind its parts would also fade. However, there is one Monoblos individual who seems dead set on killing any and all humans it can find (possibly because of an injury from a failed poaching attempt) and it has been spotted near a human settlement. Although the Monoblos population needs to be preserved, the Monoblos must be slain in order to both protect the villagers and the secrecy of their existence.

    The idea that Diablos' wings are heat radiators makes a ton of sense when you consider Bloodbath Diablos. When it enters its second phase during its fight, Bloodbath's body generates so much heat that the liquid that's part of the dried, coagulated blood quickly boils off...but it's trapped by the solid parts at first, so the resulting steam is pressurized to the point where it creates a massive steam explosion once the pressure is released.

      Interesting. It'd be nice to get a life cycle visual of them to see if the horn growth differs between the two species, as antelope with horns for antipredation grow them far faster than ones that use them just for male-male conflict.

    As cool as it would be to see Monoblos return, after what you said about poaching I think it would be a cool bit of lore if Monoblos becomes the first (that I am aware of) monster to become extinct within the timeline of the games. It might not be true, but another potential cause for their sheer aggression could be eyesight. Wild animals with particularly bad vision tend to operate on a “strike first, ask later” policy (such as Rhinoceros). Plus since they burrow so much and have notably sensitive hearing, it’s possible that they have poor vision and thus just assume everything is a threat. Why take a chance?

    Barroth is somewhat of a pest to Diablos. They are loud, they are territorial, they charge. And most importantly, they don’t seem to realize they trample cactus.
    With something as important as a cactus getting trampled, of course the barroth would get driven out.

    • @DrowsyLemon
      @DrowsyLemon Год назад +6

      while its possible barroth ocasionally trample cactus patches it's likely they'd rather avoid them when possible since they could get stuck in their muddy armor which would probably be annoying and uncomfortable. Even if they dont mind they probably don't do it enough to actually trigger a behavioral response in diablos.

    • @EnraiChannel
      @EnraiChannel 2 года назад +19

      Yeah that has been the animation for diablos forever when pitfall trapped. But I guess the initial jump out of the trap is more like the attack from underground, they can just make the fall softer with their wings. So I doubt they can actually take flight, but gliding and breaking the fall to some extent seems to be plausible from that animation.

    It very interesting to see that Diablos could use its wings to radiate heat, and it does make sense that by burrowing underground its able to stay cooler, rather than plodding around under the desert sun. Also when burrowed, Diablos can be attracted or be forced out of the ground using sound (Sonic Bombs), is there some animal that have that same sort of behavior?

    • @unnaturalhistorychannel
      @unnaturalhistorychannel  3 года назад +67

      Off the top of my head, I don't know of anything causing quite the same instantaneous behaviour like throwing a sonic bomb at diablos, most animals would likely flee. But there's good evidence to suggest whales will try to rapidly return to the surface to avoid military sonar and other noise experiments that can often be debilitating or fatal for them.

    • @da_BemBem
      @da_BemBem 3 года назад +5

      Do you think it could do with Wingdrakes and the like, with their calls, announcing the presence of surface threats? More of a reflex at sharp sounds? There is also the possibility, however minor, for entirely subterranean creatures that might emit sonar pulses as a means to navigate, that the Diablos might be taught or predisposed to avoiding.

    Is it possible that there's more Diablos in the MH world in general could be due to Diablos having other advantages over Monoblos?
    Perhaps they tend to lose a horn in combat against other monsters. On a Monoblos, losing its single horn means it just lost a lot of its offensive capability, whereas a Diablos could continue to fight somewhat effectively even with a single horn remaining. This would mean that there's an evolutionary pressure on Monoblos to grow a tougher horn and/or be stronger, while Diablos wouldn't have the same levels of evolutionary pressure for a very tough horn.

I can't think of a more universal sign among mammals that a fight is about to happen than prolonged eye contact coupled with circling one another, and I bet thats why. You show off your body size and the movement forces action on the opponent, either they match you in circling or they're put at a disadvantage and have to flee. It forces a fight or flight response, as freeze results in the opponent being at a severe disadvantage in the upcoming fight.

    "Flightless" is incorrect. We don't see them fly in game, but that doesn't mean that they're flightless in lore. In fact, in lore there is supporting evidence that they are flight capable, as they are categorized as Flying Wyverns.
    More likely, they're flightless in the same way that puffins, road runners, and burrowing owls are flightless. They're not incapable of flight, but they're better at ground movement, making flight a risky endeavour if they don't need to.

    • @unnaturalhistorychannel
      @unnaturalhistorychannel  3 года назад +4

      Bare in mind Ukanlos and Akantor are also classed as 'Flying Wyverns' too. It seems a bit of woolly taxonomic term. In the earlier games they'd have a flying animation when getting out of a pitfall trap or if they charged too far out of a map, but I think this was purely a gameplay feature as IIRC Diablos doesn't fly in World with updated animations.

    Also its so strange to me how we have so many flying wyvverns and no pterosaurs or to be more specific azhdarchidae which would make not only sense growing so large in that kind of environment but would also make for an awesome fight. My take on mating stuff in Diablos
    Cow's black shade is very visible and will scare off weaker males and encourage stronger one's to fight, if they win they quickly mate before running off, this also serves as a warning to other Monsters and I think they might even change color again to maybe a dark purple or red while pregnant or defending a nest and we never hunt them because Cap Com doesn't want to say (Hey go kill this active mother). They lay 2-3 eggs in a burrow and bury them, the young hatch with horns and drag themselves out of the ground to the waiting mother. The mother has a build up of fat needing a larger territory and I think they would make milk like a Pigeon, giving it via mouth to the young. The young use their horns and club tails to aggressively fight each other for dominance and attention and may even kill each other like Boars do, and they may even be born with larger or pointier fangs to fight. By the end maybe only one child survives and is eventually driven away by the mother as she starts to change back to normal and the child goes off to live it's life
    This is purely speculative from what I know about Deserts, Evolution, and how Child Rearing happens so plz be gentle

    When you brought up heat issues in some animals and tied it with the Monoblos I now wonder how the Bloodbath Diablos can cope with the absolutely absurd levels of heat once he gets to the "boiling" phase. My guess is he doesn't. Organ failure occurs because of all that heat and stress put on the body. The reason some mammals (human males in this case) have their testicles outside of the body is because overheating is bad for the boys down under. Lets not forget the adrenaline rush he gets at this point. Sure he can "vent" the heat and weaponized it as well. But in the sunlight of the desert, and internal temperature from muscle movements, and adrenaline generating more heat. It would be very uncomfortable.

    • @JanusHoW
      @JanusHoW 2 года назад +1

      Considering that the toughest Bloodbath quests take place on Ingle Isle, and it burrows into volcanic rock that is likely floating on top of a layer of magma, I think Bloodbath has an extremely high heat tolerance. Of course, the discomfort from the intense heat might also stress it out, making its already sky-high aggression rocket into the stratosphere.
