  • Teremok is a world-wide chain of Russian restaurants. Two of them located in Manhattan, New York.
    Nice place to get the best of what Russian cuisine may offer - Borsch, Olivier salad (winter salad), blyini (pancakes) with a red caviar, buckwheat kasha (porridge) and such a truly Russian beverage as kvas, and more.
    This one located at 358 7th Avenue, Manhattan, New York. Just one block away from Madison Square Garden.
    Another one, at 555 6th Avenue, Manhattan, New York.

    Today I ate buckwheat [.kasha ] for the 1st time in my life. Very tasty....with a mild woody and fragrant flower taste...rather unique.

    Buckwheat porridge is the best, it has been staple food in my family all my childhood. We used to get buckwheat from the USSR, now we get it from all over (and grow some here in my country as well).. Yum!

    Barszcz (borsch) and kasza are very popular in my country as well :) the soup is actually very tasty! Kwas is less popular here. I tried it once but, well, that's not my taste.

    *I love TEREMOK, shame I've never seen this restaurant in NYC, but I've been to Moscow many times, the best blinys I've ever had. Simple and delicious! I ate as much as you did (in this video) every time I visited!*

    I totally love how you've brought your style to America!! I really wish we had a place like Teremok around here. I am dying to try Borsch, kasha and that salad looked great! I just had a microwave diner tonight....*sigh*...I want to try some good Russian food!!
    Thanks for the video!

    Glad to see you're enjoying your visit! The closest thing to real Russian food in my area (near Birmingham, Alabama) is an annual Russian and Slavic food festival at a Russian Orthodox Church that's north of town.

      Yes, this is a great choice to try a real Russian food. Restaurants often use semi-finished products which affects the taste of food not in a good way. I'm always try to doing shopping bread and pastries in a bakery of Orthodox monastery my city.

    I think if Teremok would come to my country, ppl would love it! We have all the cuisines of the world where I live... however there is only 1 Russian restaurant for years now, I think there is now 2... it is hard to find Tussian food that is hearty and cheap.

    No bread? Borsch and the salad go better with bread. And what Russian haven't put a slice of bread into borsch and soaked it with it. Also salad ingredients should be mixed evenly, including mayonnaise, which I am not sure they had enough there. Edit: They had smetana (sour cream), but I think for this salad mayonnaise suits better taste wise and considered to be a more classical ingredient for Winter/Olivie salad than sour cream.

    • @v13vv3r
      @v13vv3r 7 лет назад

      Actually, it *was* mayo, not sour cream, and you're right about mayo being proper for the salad.

    What angers me is that true borsh has to have TOMATO PASTE, CABBAGE, BEETROOT AND GARLIC. However out side Russia it is mostly done as a typical BEETROO SOUP without all other ingedience. I see it even in Teremok

  • @user-wf4nt3hc9y
    @user-wf4nt3hc9y 7 лет назад +2

    Where boiled the carrots in the salad? They don't put carrots and pickled cucumber. It is not correct. And a real salad should be with pieces of meat. And in salad "Olivier" should not be lettuce, there has to be dill and onions. It's not a salad "Olivier". Sorry. Note. Salad Olivier in Russia has long been considered trite, though traditional. But a long time trying to do something new, not a rip-off. It is not true that in Russia all the tables in a holiday have this salad. No, only about 20%. Russians are diverse and don't like to eat the same salads. Believe me. On the contrary, everyone is trying to do something new, not trivial and useful at the same time, especially lately.

    It's enough to add to buckwheat porridge a good dollop of butter or hot milk to get a excellent breakfast. The other option is the fried onion and braised pork or beef, this called "soldier's kasha" in Russia.

Will you be continuing your Real Russia blog? You seemed to have more visitors to that blog? Do other viewers have any answers.
