What a great episode. My wife and I spent 8 days in Saint Petersburg in 2019. Absolutely beautiful city and the people are wonderful. If you ever get the chance to visit Russia, I highly recommend it.
I was in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) as the chaperone for 88 teenagers (and my septuagenarian mother) 3 weeks before the fall of The Soviet Union. One of the most amazing trips in my life and so happy that I was able to show my oldest daughter this “Window to the World!” Happy that Paul appreciated the history, architecture and legendary food (it wasn’t quite that legendary in 1991!). Waiting to see if he visits the Peter and Paul Cathedral! Spaceba Paul!
You have taken me into places that I have heard about but will never be. I love your adventures in the name of pastry and bread. I have enjoyed these tremendously. Thank you!
This is such a fun series to watch. Each episode is well produced, featuring a blend of culture and history from the point of view of ... specialty foods from each location.
@@andreeailie9053 really? well produced, he's a boring white bread baker that makes crap to represent such great food and places he sees, too bad they didn't have a better baker to represent, it could have been good
St. Petersburg is truly amazing city. I married a Russian woman and had the pleasure of visiting several times. The whole country has some amazing food. The bakeries in the villages can hold their own when compared to the ones Paul visited in Peter. I’ve been to them all. I’d love to go back, but under the current global situation, I’m not sure when I will be able to return next.
I’ve been watching a lot of this series, I find them quite interesting. I’m very lucky in that I’ve been to all the places, of the videos I’ve seen so far, including St. Petersburg a few times. I went into the Church of the Spilled Blood, it’s magnificent inside. This is a beautiful city. Nice to watch these videos to remind me of where I’ve been. I’ve worked on cruise ships for over 15 years which is why I’ve been lucky to see so much of the world.
hi, dear friends, i am from Russia, and i am here to tell you this: no, its not freezing outside all year, as some of you could imagine. Another thing is that you don't have to drink vodka every 5 min with every meal - we do have a very reach and old tea traditions and fireplaces almost everywhere in st. Petersburg, but unfortunately this video does not say a word about it. All the best.
So many wonderful things about Russia and all the countries Paul visits. So many wonderful, creative people throughout the world! Food and especially baked goods certainly brings people together.
Russia is top of my pops and St Petersburg truly is the most grand and beautiful city (out of >70 countries lived, worked or played in). Visited right after Soviet collapse when the nation was in terrible suffering, St Petersburg shone as a magnificent jewel ... and I love & admire the solid sincerity and soulful stoicism of Russians too.

The dough of the honey cake being brittle and closer to a biscuit is a very common practice actually. Most people I know make their medoviks like that. Edit: Just wanted to add that there is a group of Russian cakes that work on that principle, which is why it is absolutely essential they be made a day before, so the cream has the chance to saturate the dough.
I just stumbled into this guy accidentally or maybe through the RUclips algo about an hour ago via his Belgian food trip. Wonderful, excellent and lighthearted couldn't say anything bad about it it's just a great way to pass the time away. So after Belgium I'm here in Russia with Paul again as a guide. 👌

This video makes me happy and sad. I always admired Russian culture, including language, art, and especially FOOD. I always told my family I would go visit Russia for a summer. It pains me that my goals of visiting Russia are most likely never going to happen now because of the conflict.
I was thinking the same thing. I really liked the Eastern Europeans I've met while in France and Italy; they were warm and friendly. Maybe some day when things get better...
13:54 It's actually the summer palace of Elisabeth I who named it after her mother Catherine. Catherine II ("the Great") built just a small neoclassical annex. The lavish rococo palace wasn't her taste.

I am so surprised - what a delight Paul is ! I nearly didn’t watch because the only other time I saw him was on the Great British Baking. Show, he was such a sour pus and a bit of a of a bully ! I love this Paul, I like to think it’s who he really is.The show is super interesting and entertaining.
I would have liked to see more pastries from that amazing lady, to be honest, she is a legend. Paul is amazing, so polite, easy-going, brings a calming effect on everyone he visits in these food series.
Being Canadian, I find it quite amusing that Paul is so cold. But this video also made me feel so sad, today, October 20th, 2022, thinking about the corruption of Russia's leaders and their choice to destroy another country for some misplaced sense of glory. They had such potential to share their culture, and embrace a global identity; but instead, have chosen to turn inwards and pursue grievances against the West. So much potential is being lost.
Paul is so polite, no bad language, a pleasure to watch and listen to...thank you

And kinda easy on the eye, too.

Hi Mike! Season 2 is on the "UK Panel & TV Shows" channel. 10 episodes- and this time 45 minutes long! Enjoy :)
