Thanks for watching! I forgot to mention in the video but Alaina told me she does not plan to renew her lease. It’s a 1 year fun experience to see what tiny living is like in NYC. I personally think that’s one of the reasons it’s so fun to live here. You can hop around between neighborhoods and try out new living situations all the time!
welcome to liberal NYC. Only going to get worse as the new zoning law will allow people to rent their garages to people or even sheds. And yes that's true. That's the NYC Mayor (who just got in trouble) team/task force that pushed it. And no I'm not a Republican either. I don't vote for either side. Both trashy but this is Democrat NYC everyone seems to love and watch fall.
And a large dog at that. Not cool. The fool who said ... it’s better than death at a shelter is a real mouth breather. What isn’t better than being euthanized ?? Clown.
You can get some free land in Buffalo, but you got × amount months to build, and it has to be x amount of footage. You have to live in it 5 years before you can sell. If you sale before 5 yrs, you will have to pay for land.

Uhhh "how often have you been trapped in a fire" is a crazy question to ask. The answer is obviously 0 because anyone that has is not here to answer and they went out the most painful way possible. Fires happen, they are common, and a lot of the time it is from wiring that you can't even see. Yes I know someone that died in a fire, they worked as a camera man for the NFL and made really good money. He suffered third degree burns all over his body and survived for weeks in the hospital until his heart gave out from the pain. The worse way to die you could ever imagine.
That should be illegal to rent out a walking closet and market it as an apartment. That is inhumane and the fact that she has a dog in that small space, it’s criminal.
Now, I agree the dog is bad, but you have a pretty spoiled opinion about what "humane" is. There are people in the world who would kill for what she has. That's one problem with living in a great country, you look down on what 80% of the world would love to have
@siddhartacrowley8759 She moved into this place, she made a choice to live there. If she doesn't like it, move! Move out of the city, go somewhere affordable. People seem to think having nice things are entitled to them. Crazy
This is why NYC housing prices will never go down. The demand to able to sleep anywhere in this city is too extreme. Most people work all day or go out all day while spending little time at home, so they wouldn't mind this as a temporary living space. Still, I feel claustrophobic just from watching this video.
I agree. Over 20 years ago I worked in NYC, commuting from my, at the time, huge two-bedroom apartment in New Jersey (which had a ton of closet space, as well as a kitchen, and a living room). A co-worker was going away to Florida, with his wife, and invited me to stay at his tiny NYC apartment and watch his cats. I thought it would be the greatest experience ever, working, playing and living in NYC for a month. ...Sadly, I wasn't cut out for it. The apartment was so small, it depressed me. Now I live in a house, and feel maybe it's too big, even though it's a small house. Everyone is different and you have to find that sweet spot of what works for you. She seems happy, and it's decorated beautifully.
"This is why NYC housing prices will never go down" Housing normally goes up over time. If it's on a downward trend for a long time, that's really bad for that location.... 🙂 A large living space in NYC is pretty much always going to be more expensive than most other places in the world simply because NYC is a desirable place to live. 🙂
I'm from NYC and I never heard of any apartment priced that low in NYC, I don't live there anymore and not saying it's impossible, just saying it's highly unlikely!!! On average maybe you can get one around $900 plus, a very small maybe!!!

I have two dogs, but I also have half an acre yard and a 2000sqft home. However, I think her set up is fine as long as she is taking her dog on long walks multiple times a day. She also did say that she takes her dog to a doggie daycare, so I'm sure it gets exercise there as well.
In the first place, she says in the video that she works from home 3 to 4 days a week. Then she says on the days that she has to go in to work, she takes the dog to doggy daycare. As long as she’s taking the dog for lots of nice long walks, there’s really no reason why she shouldn’t have one. Now, if she went off to work every day and left the dog cramped up in that apartment alone, it would be different.
When did shit hole mongrels ever care for anything else but themself? That mongrel is living in this pod because she would be too lazy to handle the responsibility of any more.
That poor dog omfg it should be illegal to own a dog in such a small place while you spend half your life sleeping and the other half slaving away for some company meanwhile this poor dog is rotting away the entire time in a tiny cardboard box taped shut like a puppy stuck under a christmas tree ffs what is this life I hate people we are so evil and self centered.
A dog would literally live in a dog house outside and be happy. I'm almost certain she has a small dog and it has no problems being in there. She works from home most of the week and likely takes it out plenty and takes it to daycare the days she's at work.
The lack of windows gives me serious anxiety. There are prison cells that are nicer than this. People gotta learn that there are a lot of really cool cities outside of NYC and LA.
NYC and LA are ass cities, I don't understand why anyone would want to live there in the first place. Only clowns who like paying a fortune for no personal space I guess
I don't really like dogs, and I agree. I know people with dogs and (again, this is me not liking them) in the city and I am like "you walk it at least 5 times a day right? How do you do that with your job?" Them: "Lol no you don't have to walk them that much; they can hold it" A lot of people have a pet "just because" and don't really deserve the animal.
@@Tib.t I have had numerous pets and I love them and care for them, I was just pointing out that humans are on another level of course. I never meant to infer that cruelty is ever acceptable to any living animal. I couldn't bear that.
This was exactly what came to mind as soon as I saw the dog lying there in that tiny room. Even if she takes it for long walks every day, that is not right, keeping a dog in that tiny place.
I literally feel suffocated while watching this apartment no windows omg how can sheEven imagine living in such an apartment which have no windows and no fresh air
NYC doesnt really enforce it's laws. There is WAYYYY too many people here to catch everyone (or even 1% of those committing crimes). The infrastructure is VERY suspect in many areas of NYC (been living here in Queens now for 2 years, can't wait to leave back home to California once residency is done, 1 year left baby!)
the fact that there is no window is a huge deal breaker. not only is that a huge safety concern (mainly fire hazard), but I think I’d legitimately go insane. and the fact that there’s like a 3 foot gap between the bed and the ceiling makes me anxious and claustrophobic just watching this video. otherwise, I think it’s actually a pretty solid spot for the price and location. I do agree with her in that when I lived in NYC from 2014-2015, I realized that I really didn’t need much in terms of living space. props to her for making it work.
I actually felt claustrophobia when you were in the loft. It's like being in an open MRI. You really have to want to live in New York city to live there! It's very cozy, but I couldn't do that bed. Is that bathroom shared?
It's insane, considering a 250sq/ft studio can go for $4000 in a co-living arrangement, but I have seen some recently go as low as $1800 for a studio around Central Park West, literally overlooking the park. The location is incredible and the place is modern and clean.
Everyone is judging her for living in such a small space, but in this economy, you do what you have to do to survive. I guarantee you every single one of you judging her for living here, if you were given the choice to either live out on the streets of Manhattan New York, or live here, you’d choose this space without a second thought.
Of course I would choose shelter, but that’s not the position a lot of people are in. She used to live in a luxury high rise. And I live in a cozy 700 sq ft apt on ground level in Oregon. Manhattan is cool, but it’s not everything.
ACTUALLY THAT IS A LEGAL ROOM WITH AN ILLEGAL RENT( LEGAL RENT IS PROBABLY UNDER $200 PER MONTH). SHE HAS A SKY LIGHT FOR VENTILATION AND LIGHT. SHE MUST HAVE A FIRE SPRINKLER AND LADDER TO EXIT THRU THE SKY LIGHT. WE CALLED THESE ROOMS "TELEPHONE BOOT ROOMS IN AN SRO".
She lives in a U-Haul storage unit. $650 sounds like a bargain until we realize that this same space costs roughly from $80-$120 per month at most storage facilities.
Well....check this out. So-called 'millionaires' live like paupers in NYC...no more than one person can walk down a hallway at a time and Murphys are quite common in NYC apartments.
I think the opposite hes with her , hed be in a kennel if not . She must be a good person when your dog really loves you and you love him , youl make It work.
Crazy you can get a 3-5 bedroom house fully renovated in Texas for under 2,000 sometimes. I’m currently in a 2200 sq ft house for 950 a month. I think last time I checked for a family house in NY it was 6,000$ a month. I would never choose to live like that.. especially with a dog.
@whitneymontgomery382 That's good to hear it's affordable there. Unfortunately, not here in the Southwest Greater Houston area near my job. Anywhere affordable is unsafe in Houston. Rent is just rediculous.
My claustrophobia hit the roof when we get to her bed. So little space between the ceiling and her bed. It must feel like sleeping in a coffin. I salute these people and their resilience for making it work for them against all the odds.
i just finished building myself a loft bed, with an underside desk area. I made it as tall as possible at first so i could cut it down once i could feel what the spaces felt like on top and bottom. The top was pretty much what she had here. It didn't feel too bad, i could lay on my side and have a fist size gap to the ceiling, Though for her bed it seems more cluttered and closed in, but mines a big double bed with no clutter and good lighting, completely open on two sides with the foot end getting a view of the rest of the room, and out of a window. So hers definitely looks like it feels more cramped, dark, closed in on all sides, but if its cosy then a space that small can work for some people. I could have probably lived with it being that high, but the underside was needlessly roomy, so i cut it down an extra 15cm so both sides have a good middle ground.
I love NY, completely understand sacrificing space for convenience/location, and to each their own but we honestly have to have a conversation about the diminishing utility and livability of our cities. There comes a point of too dense/too small and if this isn't it, it's definitely close.
This is def illegal having no window. I wouldnt have posted this, Lol, but plenty of New Yorkers would take this spot. If you're not from here you wouldn't understand. 🤷🏾♂️
She was in a large apartment before moving to this one. She didn’t get one randomly after moving there. She said she takes her dog to daycare and she has not renewed her lease. Dog is fine.
You really think that makes it okay? You need to check yourself. That dog obviously isn't in the dog day care 100% of the time. This is literally animal abuse at this point I don't care how you try and sugarcoat it.@@biancamichelle11

@@OhhGeeskii I didn’t build the house I just bought. I said the second one was built in 2005. I purchased it in 2017. Go back and look at rental property costs in New York City for those years. You do realize that costs rise and fall country-wide, correct? My home in 2005 would’ve still been comparable to the cost of homes in New York in 2005. It just would’ve been far, far cheaper than anything in New York. Same as today. If it makes you feel better, I looked into a cash-out refinance option for my home last week. I opted out, but the payment to refinance and borrow $25,000 to make upgrades would’ve put me at $770 a month. So there’s your “today” payment.
We need to have laws against apartments or "houses" this small. People deserve to have a decent kind of life, and that involves a decent place to live.
Not in NY. People will pay anything just to live in a lil shoebox, like this woman. But rent is not the problem in NY, just the crazy taxes n living expenses are. Taxes have become unbearable so landlords are raising the rents to even higher prices. Bad policies in NY has made everything terrible, though I blame the politicians n not the landlords who are just trying to get by too.
That's a great idea, but there's the issue that this is the only thing some people can afford. It'd basically just be removing the only place some people can reasonably live except for a cardboard box. If people having a decent life is the goal, you want to change minimum wage, housing, and tax laws.
@Chill Will It's not about us, I'm very privilege, I have a huge house, but I have to take in consideration that I had many oportunities in life, and the vast majority of human population don't have the same "luck". So it's only fair, to make laws that prevent people from normalize under human living conditions. How can I consider myself a human being, if a let other human being, in a space no bigger than a closet?
That dog 🐕 ... animal cruelty. I would never leave my dog alone even in my 750 sq ft condo. Must be so bored and lonely. Even she needs to go to the rooftop to escape. Don't encourage this.
Everything you pointed out is true. The self entitlement is absolutely shocking here. The fact that this already illegal space allows pets of Any kind speaks volumes about the owner. This person hasn't even Attempted to work out a way for her dog to join her in the areas he can't access by latter so not only is he locked in a closet, he's abandoned by his owner even while she is in the home with it!! The psychological trauma is completely twisted in this case of animal neglect and abuse, "yo"!
The dog has more rights than humans in NYC - it can defend itself without being prosecuted for a crime. And for that reason... it and the owner are able to enjoy excercising in central park. But to your point, big dogs need several miles a day worth of movement - she has to dedicate two good walks a day..

Affordable housing and homelessness is a bit bigger of the issue rather than someone choosing to save 2,600 a month. You aren’t living in reality. This is how people stack money to afford a down payment on a house you gotta be willing to make sacrifices to get ahead. I agree that it’s not ideal.
I don't know if I could live in a place this small just because I think the bed being that close to the ceiling would freak me out. However, living in a smaller space honestly helps cut things back and encourages me to simplify what I own, and realize what I genuinely need and care about.

Good for you, girl. Nice living. I'd be thrilled to have a place like that back when I was 20 (assuming). Once life gets more complicated, you'll move on, I guess.
It’s a 6 month lease, she said it in the video. She doesn’t plan on staying forever. It isn’t ideal, but as long as the dog gets plenty of time outside it isn’t the worst thing for a few months and is better than having to be put down.

I would literally go crazy living in a space like this, I even felt anxious watching the video. To live in such an incredibly confined space like this and then go out into the city surrounded by thousands of strangers every day would be my version of hell. I definitely give people credit who can survive like this, though.
Same. And seeing the roof confirmed my suspicions that this is an old ass building that is probably hardly maintained. The fact that the ceiling is 1 foot away from your face in bed is creepy, like that roof looks like it was sinking in areas... all the cables and random shit up there too. Wtf.
You don't have to give her credit for being able to do this, it's just a facet of temperament that she has and you don't. It's not an achievement or skill, just something she was born with. You probably have something equally valuable in your mental makeup. I imagine she's probably really obtuse in lots of ways and that enables her to do it. The fact that she considered getting a dog is evidence of that.
I live in the Bronx here in NYC. I could absolutely never live in something like this, no matter how cheap it is. No windows, bathroom down the hall and ceiling too close to the bed. I could see how some folks can deal with this when trying to save but my mental health would deteriorate so quickly in this room.

It is insane that this glorified shoe box costs $650 a month, it is even more insane that she is allowing her dog to live in such conditions. Granted, I just moved out of a small studio in Chicago that cost almost $1000, and I have 2 cats, but it was nowhere near that small and it's pretty easy to entertain cats with toys that don't require large spaces. (They live in a very spacious new apartment now and are very pleased with all of the birdie-watching windows.)
@@jimibones178 Um, yes? Cats are different than dogs, and I wasn't living in a shoebox that barely allowed my cats room to move around. They had window seats, they had plenty of vertical spaces to jump up onto, and they had room to play. Very, very different situation.
@@jimibones178 In fact, I would almost say that if she had a cat instead of a dog, it MIGHT be ok, given the vertical space in the apartment, she could set up cat shelves and whatever. But that dog? NYC is like one huge sardine can. Small spaces and very stinky!!!!!
Right! This looks depressing.
"This is why NYC housing prices will never go down"
Housing normally goes up over time. If it's on a downward trend for a long time, that's really bad for that location.... 🙂
A large living space in NYC is pretty much always going to be more expensive than most other places in the world simply because NYC is a desirable place to live. 🙂

How did your claustrophobia led you to this title? You pretty much ask for this abuse for your claustrophobia.
i just finished building myself a loft bed, with an underside desk area.

We need to stop apartment rent sky high costs. She is in a closet for 650 per month. Over pricing is the core of the problem.
