    Video Overview:
    This video is a review of my affordable SPF collection. I compare all of my drugstore sunscreens and talk through their different attributes like: Broad Spectrum, UVA & UVB Protection, SPF Value, Mineral, Chemical, or Mineral Chemical Filter Blend, Active Ingredients (Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide), Untinted SPF, Tinted SPF (Iron Oxides), white cast, consistency (light weight, thick, smooth, liquidy), how they feel on oily, sensitive, acne prone skin, fragrance free claims, and more. If you are trying to figure out the best affordable sunscreen options for you that won't cause breakouts, won't clog pores (are noncomedogenic), won't leave a white cast on the skin, are lightweight, and provide adequate anti-aging protection from sun damage in order to prevent fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, melasma, crows feet, and more, this is the perfect video for you!

    Sukin SPF30 sheer touch facial sunscreen is another great one. No white cast and absorbs well provided you leave enough time for the previous product to absorb, otherwise pilling can occur.

    Iron oxides don’t protect from the sun or uv. They protect from visible rays of light (like blue light). That’s why they aren’t listed as an active ingredient. But they’re another benefit of tinted sunscreens!
    Just wanted to clarify :)

    I’ve been using the Australian Gold for quite a while and just recently realized that in addition to this one, they have this same sunscreen in a more tinted formula that comes in 3 shades...fair to light, medium to tan, and rich to deep. Apparently, it’s like a sunscreen bb cream. The tube looks almost identical to the one I use that’s supposed to be for all skin tones. I’ve only seen it on their website but I’m thinking I need to try it this summer when I don’t really want to bother with foundation. I find the original one to be a little blurring and smoothing when I’m going without foundation so I have high hopes for the more tinted one.

    Hi Abbey, thank you for the thorough reviews on these sunscreens. I just bought Coppertone Pure & Simple 100% Mineral Sunscreen, SPF 50 - I live in Canada.
    This has 24.08% Zinc Oxide, but no Titanium Dioxide. Would this be effective protection, in your opinion? I was thinking of using this on my shoulders, arms, and legs.
    I was going to get Blue Lizard Sheer sunscreen for the face and wearing L'Oreal true match nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum over it, to cover the white cast.
    I have light-ish olive, Mediterranean skin.
    I would love to know your thoughts on this.
    Thank you, Abbey.

    Having a hard time finding a tinted sunscreen. Using cetaphil but it’s only spf 20.. I can’t find makeup I can wear that doesn’t end up clogging some pores & I just can’t stand having any clogged pores. I want none.
    I like the cerave 30 ok, but the tinted one I hate. My skin can’t breath & end up w bumps on cheeks. Eltamd sport feels so good on my skin. I mean. For a sunscreen lol. But I just bought the tinted spf 41 one & it looked so pretty. But hours into wearing it my skin started looking grey & chalky, dry. Settled into every fine line & I looked so old. Tried again using lots of oils & moisturizers before. Same thing. Maybe I got a fake, I got it off Walmart.com 🤔
    Heard Australian gold more drying than eltamd so didn’t even wanna attempt it!

    ahhh ok i'm confused. if you can't use a chemical sunscreen on it's own, can you use a mineral on it's own? should you always have a blend of the two? also, what sunscreen do you use around your eyes?
    also thanks for the video! i'm a new subscriber and loving your vids so far!

    • @AbbeyYung
      @AbbeyYung  4 года назад +2

      Yes! Mineral sunscreen will actually block those UV rays from penetrating the skin, whereas Chemical filters allow UV rays to penetrate your skin. So if I am using an SPF with chemical filters, it will also have mineral active ingredients (mineral/chemical blend), or I use it in combination with a separate mineral SPF.

      @@AbbeyYung Hi Abbey, this is actually not true, broad spectrum chemical sunscreen does exist and is pretty popular. The key word to look for his "broad spectrum" that covers across both UVA and UVB wavelengths. If you're thinking of visible light protection, only non-nano zinc and iron oxides will give you that protection (nano-sized zinc, though mineral, will not).

    • @AbbeyYung
      @AbbeyYung  4 года назад +1

      Hi! Agreed that broad spectrum is important 😊 I am referring to research I’ve read that Chemical filters actually absorb UV rays, whereas Mineral / Physical do not absorb those rays.

    • @TrishasMusic
      @TrishasMusic 4 года назад

      @@AbbeyYung Thanks for taking the time to reply. Can you explain what you mean by "complete protection"? If a chemical sunscreen prevents UV rays from damaging the skin, that is proper protection. Mixing two sunscreens isn't great as it interferes with how the sunscreen ingredients disperse in the product and how the sunscreen film sets up on your face - layer them instead.
      I think a case for choosing physical sunscreens over chemical would be more photostability, i.e. the chemical filters degrade faster (thus frequent reapplication is indispensable), not because they can't properly protect your skin.

    Thought you might like to know that you might want to revise your video because as long as it does have some zinc in it, people may be interested in it. Perhaps it will prevent the Sun from penetrating the skin.

      Yes it has a chemical sunscreen in it and if you have sensitive skin it can really burn your face. It was really bad! It fine if chemical sunscreens don't tend to bother you. The PM Cerave Lotion is great but then it doesn't have SPF in it because you wear it at bight. I think that some of theirproducts were reformulated when a different company bought it. I watch Dr. Dray alot for sunscreen reviews but she doesn't wear makeup so never sure what was good under it. Great video.

    Where are you getting that 'you're not going to get 100% full coverage protection with a sunscreen that only has chemical active ingredients'? There are countless chemical sunscreens with advanced, photo-stable filters that provide broad spectrum SPF/PA++++. I think this is misleading as you're telling people they need to use mineral if they want full protection, and this is just not the case. Also sunscreens with both mineral and chemical filters can provide added UVA protection, so chemical filters are not just added for consistency or cosmetic elegance.

    • @sdla690

    First off I like your videos in general and the fact that you promote sunscreen use and fragrance free skincare. However some things I found not completely accurate. Everything is a chemical, and so "chemical sunscreens" are better called "organic" ones, however I know this is the term most widely used. But you make it sound like mineral spf filters are not chemicals... Also, "chemical" sunscreens definitely can protect your skin on their own, just make sure it says broad spectrum.

    • @emmamargaret8723

      Anyone who has a brain knows that literally everything is a chemical and if they dont I'm just glad they're wearing sunscreen. I really dont see a problem with calling them chemical sunscreens. Also, while chemical sunscreens do protect from the sun, there are a lot more problems people have with them. The main being them not being reef safe. Chemical sunscreens also arent effective at protecting against age spots.

    • @AbbeyYung
      @AbbeyYung  4 года назад +3

      Thank you! It seems you’re misunderstanding what I mean by Chemical sunscreen. Chemical sunscreens have chemical active ingredients like avobenzone, octocrylene, octinixate, etc. Chemical sunscreen does not literally mean made of chemicals. It’s just referring to the active ingredients. Mineral sunscreens have mineral active ingredients like zinc oxide & titanium dioxide. Organic is not what I’m referring to. And Chemical SPF’s do not provide the same level of UVA protect that mineral SPF’s do.
