    Sachiaki Takamiya is a writer and the creator of Ikigai Diet and Ikigai Bio-Hacking. He has authored a range of books, with one of his better-known works being the spiritual adventure novel, Ten-jo-no-Symphony, published in Japanese by Kodansha in 2006. His contributions in English include The Ikigai Diet, and Ikigai Bio-Hacking.
    He embraces a sustainable lifestyle in a serene town in Shiga Prefecture, growing his own vegetables and crafting fermented foods. In 2018, he innovatively translated this lifestyle into a diet, thus birthing the Ikigai Diet. In 2022, he further enriched this diet, transforming it into a holistic health approach called Ikigai Bio-Hacking.
    Homemade natto has been a staple of his diet for nearly a decade, holding a central role in the Ikigai Diet. Embracing this passion for natto, he donned the moniker ‘Natto King’ in 2022 and began disseminating natto-related insights via his RUclips channel, the Ikigai Diet.
    His health-focused lifestyle has certainly paid dividends. Despite being in his early 60s, he consistently receives clean bills of health.

    Japan had a period where meat was banned for over 1,000 years. Many people are unaware of this. Plant-based has helped me in so many ways. I'm not strict vegan, but about 90% of my meals are vegan, and the remaining 10% of meals are pescetarian. I also avoid dairy (will occasionally tolerate cheese in small amounts). Haven't been sick in a decade. Natto and kimchi are amazing foods.

    I already had excellent microbiome when I started making and eating natto months ago. I was amazed at the immediate improvement. I had not expected that. You know that nattokinase is VERY effective against COVID? Other viruses too! I started eating natto for the cardio benefits... The rewards piling up. Bought a dedicated natto maker, and use defatted soymeal. It's FAR more intense flavor, meaning more nattokinase and k2, @1/10th cost of whole soybeans. As soon as I'm near a feed store that carries soy hulls I'm going to buy and use, it's obvious that is the preferred medium for the bascillus, will be @1/25th cost of whole soybeans, and expect even more intense flavor. When I started I used TVP, works great, @1/2 cost of whole soybeans...

    Thank you. It's rare to hear the advice "common sense" these days. BTW I watched a video about natto on NHK World. A researcher advised that the recommended amount is 50 grams a day. I'd been eating less, maybe 30 grams. So, thinking to switch to 50 grams, I went to some supermarkets, but I found that most packets sold are only 40 ~ 45 grams. That surprised me. BTW I live in Japan, in Sendai (Miyagi). Why do you think it is that, if the recommended serving is 50 grams, most companies are producing packets with less than 50 grams?

    • @theikigaidiet3790
      @theikigaidiet3790  5 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you for your comment. Did the NHK program say 50 grams or 1 pack? Usually, it is considered in Japan that 1 pack of natto a day is appropriate. 1 pack of natto is often about 50 grams, and therefore people started giving the number 50 grams. You are right, sometimes there are just 30 grams or 40 grams in 1 pack, but Japanese people are not concerned about the details( even doctors-haha), so I don't think it matters so much when they say 1 pack, it could be 30 grams or 50 grams, either number is okay. I say 50 grams of natto a day is appropriate because many people watch this channel make natto at home and having this reference is easier.

    • @cat-tzu1234
      @cat-tzu1234 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@theikigaidiet3790 Thank you for responding. I think the interviewer asked the researcher how much natto is best, and the researcher replied 50 grams a day is the recommended amount, and, because many people buy packs of natto at a supermarket, I went looking for packs of 50 grams. I did find some, but they were the minority. Most packs available were under 50 grams (many 40 or 45 grams), which is why I was surprised, and wondered why, if the recommended amount is 50 grams-and most people I know eat one pack a day-are there so many brands with less than 50? Anyway it's not so important. But thank you.

      Thank you for your comment. Yes, you are right about that. Whether you have been eating soy all your life or not might make a difference. Therefore, I recommend Shindofuji, eating locally. As for the thyroid interference, natto is a little different from regular soybeans, though, because it is fermented. It is said that fermentation helps to reduce or eliminate antinutrients found in soybeans, such as trypsin inhibitors and phytic acid. These antinutrients can interfere with digestion and the absorption of essential nutrients. Fermentation can also reduce the goitrogenic compounds present in soy, which can potentially interfere with thyroid function. With that said, if you have a thyroid problem, you don't have to eat soy natto. You might gain benefits from other fermented beans.
