Hi I have one of these garden guns. If you use the Mexican Cascade ammo be sure to clean the chamber often or else the spent cartridge will stick and wont eject.
I’ve used them (crimped end) before in a 22 revolver. I was aiming up towards a metal roof about 10 feet away. Luckily it didn’t puncture the roof. It’s good to know from your test what to expect.

The CCI shotshells with the plastic capsule was designed to be shot through a rifled barrel . What the smooth bore garden gun would be best served with are the crimped shot shells .
Yeah, that was a good video. I thought it would do better at that range of 15 yards. I wonder if the bore is larger than a normal rifled .22 rimfire (.222"-.223") I know that the 22 Mag is the standard .224" depending on the tolerances.
It seems odd that these still have standard rifle sights and scope mounts given their intended use. It seems like a shotgun style bead would be better for a product like this.
Very helpful, Thanks. I also had cases where the bubble cap didn't break up, and it acted like a wax slugs. I really prefer the crimped shells out of my ancient charter arms revolver. The pattern at 15 feet is OK for rats and such, and my 5th and 6th round are always solids (sometimes shorts or BB)
I thoroughly enjoy your videos! Thank you for taking the time and effort. I could have put this new Henry to good use 60 years ago - I grew up on a farm and needed to dispatch all sorts of vermin. As an aside, considering the smooth bore, it would be interesting to see a 22 LR "slug". Putting an alternating combination of slugs and the CCI shotshells would make this an ideal gun to have on hand. I'm heading over to your Patreon page ...
I was unaware the old crimped ones were still made. Thanks for pointing that out. They're less expensive than the CCI too. I think I payed about 4 bucks for 20 of the CCI's. They're too expensive to shoot! Still got 19 of 'em.. lol
It would be cool if some ammo company made a .22 that shot a diabolo style projectile like an air rifle pellet because that style of bullet would self stabilize without the need if rifleing.
@@michaelanderson1859 the diabolo style of projectile has far better stability than conical bullets because of weight distrobution and its aerodynamics.
Wish you shot the crimped ammo at the tin panel at the ten yard range. It would have given a good side by side comparison. Did enjoy the video Buffalo. Like how you don't over talk the subject. Some ten minuet videos could be ninety seconds. Thanks.
I have worked with pest control operators who have done rodent control. It would be a very good tool for rodent control in warehouses, etc. The should market them that way. I use them in 22 cal smooth bore adaptors in a shotgun. Lets me use an old double barrel hammer gun my father in law picked up at an auction back in the day that was a wall hanger.
I hear you on living with it after uploading it, lol!! I do it all the time! That would definitely be the reason they said no bullets, foot group at 16 yards. Great vid!!
One question comes to mind. I'm wondering if the crimped shot shells have more velocity than the bubble type due to more pressure buildup because of possibly more resistance to opening? 🤔. 🇺🇸😎
Henry should sell the gun with 2 barrels : a smooth one and a rifled one . That would do the job for a lot of uses . And perhaps a rail for a scope on the rifled barrel .
Thanks for the very good video, a bit to much talking, but very good like the idea of the crimped over the plastic, would the crimped go through the steel, as it looked like only the plastic made the hole. Hope to get my hands on one soon, but any gun seems to be hard to get her on PEI.
Thanks again, but I'm a little surprised at the inaccuracy at such a short distance when using bullets, I'm guessing it's the short barrel. I have my Grandfather's Winchester model 67 smoothbore in 22 short-long-long rifle with a 27 inch barrel. I've been shooting this rifle all my life and my Uncle before me and of coarse my Grandfather. The rifle is amazingly accurate, I would sit inside our barn on rainy days and shoot a box of shorts at can tops nailed to a board at 30 yards and never miss. I'm guessing it was the longer barrel.
Pretty cool little "shotgun" video. I watched a video you did with the Águila. 22LR SSS ammo. Does anyone make a setup tailored for that ammo? I've got family in Appalachia, specifically NE Alabama up on Sand Mountain. It's where my grandparents hailed from. My grandfather used to love bluegrass music. Your channel is like a touch of home...much appreciated.
The 22 rf is a "heeled" bullet where as the shot shell has a load which does not have the oversized rear band to engage the rifling. What I surmise is that Henry bores the Garden Gun either oversized or undersized. By undersizing it would be like having choke in the barrel. If it is oversized then you end up with the keyholing issue at closer ranges, and a loss of accuracy.
Have you tried shooting either CB cap .22s, (or Calibri)? Also their are BB caps. Unfortunately they are not .22 Long Rifle, so you could only do single shot. BUT, if their was .22 long rifle with a BB shot (lead ball) projectile, it would be like firing a round ball in a musket.
That would have come in handy at a few places I worked to dispatch pigeons in warehouses and pole barns, etc.
I would like to see
I agree it’s nice to see a company put a gun out that isn’t intended for everyone. Nice video keep it up 👍

It would be cool if some ammo company made a .22 that shot a diabolo style projectile like an air rifle pellet because that style of bullet would self stabilize without the need if rifleing.
Air rifle pellets are not self stabilizing. Bb guns are smooth bore. Air rifles that shoot pellets are rifled
@@michaelanderson1859 the diabolo style of projectile has far better stability than conical bullets because of weight distrobution and its aerodynamics.
great idea
Buff, I just respect your honesty! I watch your VLOG because I appreciate your honest opinion. Keep up the great job!! Happy Holidays!
Wish you shot the crimped ammo at the tin panel at the ten yard range. It would have given a good side by side comparison. Did enjoy the video Buffalo. Like how you don't over talk the subject. Some ten minuet videos could be ninety seconds. Thanks.
wow ! you are pretty dam quick with each shot. very good gun control.
Thank you for your great videos. I had to go get me a Henry garden gun last year. Love it.
I like the stock an forearm so much I wanna buy one just to see if it will fit my h001 😂
i too think my h001 would look better with the stock from the garden gun
It would be nice if they also made a smooth bore in a 22 mag.
Very downright informative and down to earth ,
Cool video ty
I have worked with pest control operators who have done rodent control. It would be a very good tool for rodent control in warehouses, etc. The should market them that way. I use them in 22 cal smooth bore adaptors in a shotgun. Lets me use an old double barrel hammer gun my father in law picked up at an auction back in the day that was a wall hanger.
Thank you for the demo; you answered the questions I had and a few more I didn't think to ask. Subbed!
This is the first video on your channel that I watched and I gotta say: you seem like a nice cool guy ;) Subscription earned 8-)
I'm not sure but they are definitely louder!
Another interesting and entertaining video.
Thanks
good video...very limited use gun...would be good around the farm...
Excellent video as always, damm good little gun for doing what its ment for. Those smooth bore pattern a lot better than a rifled one. Cool little gun.
Thank you.
Henry should sell the gun with 2 barrels : a smooth one and a rifled one . That would do the job for a lot of uses .
And perhaps a rail for a scope on the rifled barrel .
Thanks for the good info!
Great video. Thanks! Would like to see you do a video on the Charger Arms Mag Pug 41 magnum.
If I could get one I sure would do a video. I like that caliber.
Buffalo's Outdoors I sent a pm on Facebook.
Man! You are slick lever gun operator! Nice shooting!
Thanks for the very good video, a bit to much talking, but very good like the idea of the crimped over the plastic, would the crimped go through the steel, as it looked like only the plastic made the hole. Hope to get my hands on one soon, but any gun seems to be hard to get her on PEI.
Happy New year buffalo. It's been a while but I'm back on RUclips. Been catching up on your vids
Hey man, it's good to hear from ya! Happy New Year!
I wonder if the crimp type shell will be a little more forgiving on the tin since there isn't any plastic bubble at 10 feet.
I'd like for them to make this gun in 22 magnum!
Do they make 22 mag shot shell?
Thanks for your excellent videos.
I'm glad you enjoy them. I sure do enjoy making them.
Love your videos buddy. Keep up the great work
Thank you Sir!
You're very welcome!
If you put a .22 caliber pellet and a .22 caliber Ramset shell behind it you would get that pellet travelling over 2500 fps.
Good stuff 👍
Thank you!
Thumbs up Buff
