Not that this is not impressive but I'm most impressed by the presentation here. So clear, comprehensible, and fluent and fast but slow enough, and the talking through at the same time as the demonstrations, without any hesitant "uh's" or "eh's". I'll bet they asked Loopop to demo Space X.
agree Loopop is one of the best reviewers and super clear explanations. He patiently demonstrates how things work. Mylar and Divkid are great as well for their passion and energy but they rush thru the demos way too fast for a beginner to understand.

Congrats @Wes and the Intellijel team! Sounds incredible! I'd respectfully say that I think a standalone/non-euro version with USB MIDI would also be a nice addition to the Intellijel stable. Of course, one could also buy a skiff, a euro MIDI IO module and go about it that way as well but it'd be a lot more expensive as opposed to having it in a self-contained housing. I'm not sure how difficult it'd be to map the CV/gate functions over to MIDI output but anyways... a guy can dream!
I have a few Intellijel modules, and I use JetBrains software at work... I often get sent for some weird loops when looking for documentation for either, yeah... Anyway, here's a UML graph of a my patch notes...
I have now watched this a number of times. The closing comments on the strengths as an exploration tool vs. having a set idea you want to capture really sold me - ordered yesterday. Among other things it will be feeding an E370 with both tracks interacting with various combinations of the 4 oscillators and mix outs in myriad ways.
It’s great, they’ve thought of almost everything! I think I will stick with my Metropolis for now though as I’m not sure I need this much flexibility and complexity right now. Super cool though.
it definitely looks amazing update but I need more channels and my Eloquencer gives me 8 cv/gates and seems easier to use, But if I was getting a sequencer to use with one full voice, like Atlantis the new update would be great.
Excellent tutorial and game changer for Intellijel. Pair with Atlantis and Plonk for a killer modular riff monster in small travel case. I have a Tetrapad with Tete expander and the new interface reminds me of it.
The way the two tracks are linked feels super awkward, hopefully there'll be a firmware update to switch through a single button which track the faders control, this looks awesome in every aspect otherwise! And a great clean demo video to go along with the release as always on your channel.
@@intellijel I've seen it in the video but it still feels like an afterthought to me, especially with the other switches. Clearly you have the capacity to have independent faders and switches positions with the preset feature, so I feel like the device would benefit from being able to select which tracks are being affected by the faders directly. (still a rad device though, well done!)

so close to being a real winner - since its a a very advanced sequencer with very fast preset loading it would be amazing if you could sequence presets like poly.

What are you guys doing with 2 tracks? I don't understand. Not even 8 tracks of my Eloquencer is not enough. But 2? I hope this gets a midi expander and maybe a more tracks expander of some sort, to make more sense.
You can get a lot out of even one track by sequencing gates separately and using modulation to get movement between voices playing the same sequence. I'm not sure what I'd do with as many as two tracks.
Just wanted to mention that the current firmware does support MIDI, but you'll need to use the Micro USB port on the back of the module. They do sell a 1U module that lets you expose the USB on the front of the module though.
Menus to setup a framework that you mainly set and forget. Most real-time performance functions/parameters are just a click away, just like the original Metropolis. Tons of dedicated buttons for this purpose.

yes. accumulation happens per individual stage and separately per track. You can set the step size differently for each stage. via mod lanes, ctrl knobs or xyz inputs you can also reset or invert the direction of accumulators on trk1, 2 or both.
@@THIEFSOUNDS it is possible via Trk Output Swap. Basically you can use a mod Lane (or external mod source) and automate swapping of trk a and b outputs to happen after every 8 stages
I’m having difficulty hearing the sequences. More overtones might help. Your review is so thorough, that most of us could approach this big piece of hardware without fear. Love that Save function!
A great video as always! I had never considered this as a sequencer but as I build a small case I’m definitely finding myself interested. I’m hoping to find a good balance of immediacy, tactility, the ability to jam with it, and also happy accidents that come from more in depth exploration. This definitely seems to be aiming at that spot! Right now I’m using a beatstep pro which is great but I would love to be able to see the settings of knobs for melodies vs peering into the tiny screen.
I've been watching this video and others for a long time now, and have quietly been wanting it, but I was concentrating on a lot of essential function/utility modules that help the rest of the system. Now that those are all built up, I finally ordered Metropolix a couple of days ago, so coming back and doing refreshers now. Soooooooo much to take in, but I'm really excited about it. How does the Metropolix handle transposition via CV in? One weakness of the Metropolis was the +-5v limit on the CV in, which made transposition at 1v/oct a bit of a pain (requiring additional module/s to track correctly).
@@thomassynths It's not an issue of the range, it's the issue of not tracking 1v/oct. To answer my own question, I read the manual, and it claims that Metropolix tracks 1v/oct correctly, so yay!
@@thomassynths I don't own a Metropolis, but was investigating pitch sequencer options and researched this particular quirk for a good bit, and as far as I could find, it was not possible without some external assistance (ie. another module). Metropolix is definitely in the short list, now, though.
They should have made it 8 channel with really noisy mechanical sliders that reset when you change channels. Obviously I’m kidding. Looks killer. Surprised they didn’t go with Metroplex.

Hey Metropolis swarm intelligence, I thought about upgrading to X. I have the apparently common problem, that the older brother makes a lot of audible noise in the circuit which messes up some recordings every now and then. Any experiences with the new one? Cheeers

When I still wasn't into modular but the name Intellijel would come up I always assumed it's something to do with the IntelliJ editor 😂 It doesn't help that their logo uses almost the same font.
Ooh! And again I say, ooh! Though I can never understand the commitment to 12TET in an analogue world. It shouldn't be technically difficult to let us enter our own tunings, and this would open up a world of new possibilities.
My guess is, and totally on behalf of myself without speaking with intellijel, is that there's no demand for it. There are some pretty obscure scales in here, I'm pretty sure quantization to other scales wouldn't be rocket science considering everything else going on here. Please feel free to link to good non 12TET music (hopefully it won't be blocked by RUclips)
@@loopop Sadly, I think the lack of demand is a self fulfilling prophecy-analogue control of pitches should be able to take us wherever a voice can go, but we've been overenculturated by keyboard instruments and MIDI :). Sevish' album Harmony Hacker (over on Bandcamp) is a quick pitch for why we should care.

The fact you can have a 4 track drumsequencer via mod output really speaks for the ES model. Only advantage on the Metropolix for a live Performance i see is that slider positions always indicate the note value. Right?

The probability parameter is really helpful. I assume you can put a step at 0% so that the sequence doesn't play on every note. It's crazy how many sequencers don't have this function and it's so insane to me.
It's too complicated for me. Alt > menu > combo > button press. My head is spinning watching this. I'm blown away by how loopop assimilates all this siht!! 😕
Now this vs Vector. This ones cheaper, has more modulation sources but no midi(do not care) no chords(do not care) and mod out (do care). I wanted Vector for a long time but this one comes out of nowhere with amazing features. So I'm not sure anymore. I like to hands on approach of the Metropolix though.

If you go to PITCH on the track of choice and choose SYNC ALL then you override all faders for that track.

yes. this is just a sequencer - you need to hook it up with a module that will play samples

answered my own question after purchase, you can’t use a mod track but you can use the 2nd sequencer track pitch out.

You want more than 5 octave transposition?

My guess is, and totally on behalf of myself without speaking with intellijel, is that there's no demand for it. There are some pretty obscure scales in here, I'm pretty sure quantization to other scales wouldn't be rocket science considering everything else going on here. Please feel free to link to good non 12TET music (hopefully it won't be blocked by RUclips)
@@loopop Sadly, I think the lack of demand is a self fulfilling prophecy-analogue control of pitches should be able to take us wherever a voice can go, but we've been overenculturated by keyboard instruments and MIDI :). Sevish' album Harmony Hacker (over on Bandcamp) is a quick pitch for why we should care.

@@loopop i did and read many comments and wondered why this isnt discussed here. 😁 However, bevor you really tried one out, it's hard to tell which workflow is more Fluid. The fact you can have a 4 track drumsequencer via mod output really speaks for the ES model. Only advantage on the Metropolix for a live Performance i see is that slider positions always indicate the note value. Right?

The probability parameter is really helpful. I assume you can put a step at 0% so that the sequence doesn't play on every note. It's crazy how many sequencers don't have this function and it's so insane to me.

This module is cool ! But it could be a little more if they add motorized sliders :) in this way it could be a nobrainer module, maybe in the future

Now this vs Vector. This ones cheaper, has more modulation sources but no midi(do not care) no chords(do not care) and mod out (do care). I wanted Vector for a long time but this one comes out of nowhere with amazing features. So I'm not sure anymore. I like to hands on approach of the Metropolix though.
