Off-topic question but… given the Modulation Oscillator that can do audio rates and track keyboard… wonder if they could add linear FM as a mod matrix possibility? That would open up a whole world of different timbres for the main osc and somewhat mitigate the ‘it’s just regular VCO shapes’ con. Just a thought.

Thanks Loopop for the video! ❤ Anyone who is interested, let me quickly highlight how this synth is unique or interesting IMO:
    - the LFOs, apart from the usual shapes, come with complex custom shapes (the "+" symbol above the waveform button)
    - in the dual VCOs there is a wavemix feature where you can set the balance of levels between pulse and triangle / saw (/which you can also mix freely!)
    - you can program a lot of generative behavior into the sequencer with gate, velocity and note chance / probability for more unpredictability
    - there's dual timbre addressing in the sequencer so it can play both timbres at once or only chosen notes for timbre A and B (which makes it more fun!)
    - in the mod matrix you can use functions to change the well-known shapes of sine, square LFOs into uniquely new ones, or create custom curves for envelopes / aftertouch response, etc.
    - the mixer allows for a clean mix of all analog sources but you can also use the overload slider to overdrive the signal like the classic Moog CP-3 mixer does
    - the delay works like vintage digital rack units in that it's highly configurable and can provide stereo delays with ping pong behavior, filtered multi-tap tape echo-style delays, or reverb + dreamy chorused-diffusion trails. Generally it's a sonic playground for time-based effects.
    Thank you Moog!!!

Great video! the Muse definitely looks interesting, but... I already have a Matriarch/Subsequent 37/Grandmother, and this device is post-acquisition by InMusic. (That said, I did get the Spectravox and Labyrinth, both are post-acquisition by InMusic and are great!)
I think if I was going to drop that much cash, then I might get the Arturia PolyBrute 12 Polyphonic 12-voice Morphing Analog Synthesizer (12 voices).
I did purchase the much cheaper AstroLab and have really enjoyed it so far (it kind of got me into Arturia Analog Lab 5, Pigments, Augmented, and more).

I think they made good choices in the combination of knobs and sliders here. Personally I've never liked to set envelopes with knobs all that much, which is the more common way on most Moog synths. I always liked the sliders on my Roland synths much more for this. With sliders you can immediately see the envelope shape and quickly adjust envelopes live even with just one hand. So I'm happy to see Moog decided to put sliders on this synth for that.

The Muse sounds nice and has tons of sound sculpting capabilities, but I am not hearing that magic Moog sound. The Moog Grandmother had that magic sound and was based on some of the modular oscillators and filters if I am not mistaken. The Muse is based on the Voyager oscillators which I did not care for.

Really bummed to see they carried over the filter passband issue from the Grandmother/Matriarch where opening up the filter fully with no resonance causes a drop in volume (you can hear/see in the spectrograph around 12:18). Can't believe Moog didn't rectify this for such a big release :(

    • @bojangprodoktschns5428
      @bojangprodoktschns5428 6 месяцев назад +3

It's not clear in the review, but as you can assign targets via knob wiggle in the mod matrix, it seems possible to target the parameters of delay that way.
Being able to modulate effect parameters is pretty much THE reason to have onboard effects apart from saving with patch.
Having more effects would then mean more knobs and a bigger more expensive synth.
(Except of course - as everything is digitally controlled anyway - they could use encoders with LED rings so we could easily switch between multiple effects and could have additional things like infinite ADSRs, LFO's etc. and make the panel reflect the actual patch)
As a positive you can likely control a few parameters of your favourite Moogerfooger via the CV outs.
