EDIT: It's also a reference to the intro to Magic Schoolbus. When everyone gets on the bus, Arnold asks "please let this be a normal field trip" to which the kids reply "with the frizz? no way!"
Me! I may have been born after the N64's lifespan, but I had my mother buy me one when I was 7, because I really wanted to play Super Mario 64, so by the time I'd started playing Super Mario Galaxy & got to this level, I was rather excited.
I was pretty young so Super Mario Galaxy was my first "real" Mario game (we also had Mario Party 8). Back then my sister playes video games and I just watched, but it was still an amazing experience. I was pretty confused when Bowser Jr showed up because I didn't know who he was, and wondered if we would ever fight the real Bowser. But when this theme hit, somehow I knew, that this was his territory, that the Koopa King was here.
I love this version. It definitely sounds more like a remaster of the original song from 64, and the one from Galaxy 2 is more like a complete reorchestration. This sounds like something they would use if they ever remastered SM64 for the Wii U. WHICH THEY TOTALLY SHOULD.
I tottaly agree with you man oh and fact me and my friend Erin are remaking super mario 64 in hd in unity but we arnt distributing it so don't get your hopes up
+keenan maloney They did for the DS, so it would seem repetitive. I think they should remaster Super Mario World or Super Mario Sunshine. In fact, just the entire SNES library.
Keenan Maloney This isn't actually a remaster since it portrays the space theme found within Super Mario Galaxy within its sounds. For reasons that should be obvious, the original incarnation of the song featured within Super Mario 64 did not have that characterization.
Bowser’s plan in the Galaxy games were more ambitious and devious than any other ones. I’m glad Nintendo decided to put this theme in the game because of how dark it is. It also gives you the feeling that you’re about to face a huge threat down the tough road that lies ahead
I mean in the galaxy games, Mario does have to face a lot of threats that are deadly. It's not just falling down the map or your health reaching zero. We are talking about getting crushed alive, drowned in toxic goo, sinking in quicksand, falling into black holes, the infinite void of space, electrocuted by a lot of things, drowning in water, being burned alive, frozen to death, hypothermia, beaten, explosions, falling into dark matter which rips all of your molecules apart, etc. Mario was literally now facing death in every corner of his journey to save the galaxy or even the universe from Bowser.
I like how Bowser had the idea of going to space before he decided to just flat marry peach in Odyssey. I know he tried in Super Paper Mario but that was such a small plot point i personally dont count it
This is more of a homage to the N64 vibe because it uses MIDI "Doh"s for the melody and well.. it's actually just midi (computer-generated sound engine) whereas Galaxy 2 mixes live orchestra with electronics and midi.
Idk why people keep saying that this was made with MIDI as a sound source..... MIDI is NOT a sound source. In simpler terms, it is a TRIGGER for other sound-producing devices, i.e. Synthesizers, Virtual Instruments, Drum machines, etc. MIDI has NO SOUND.

Honestly, this theme alone makes Bowser seem like a very scary and intimidating enemy compared to other incarnations of the king of the koopas. This theme makes me picture Mario as some sort of warrior or champion of justice making his way through a perilous route filled with danger and foes, and getting ready to face a tyrannical monster that threatens not just his life or the princess', but the whole world, and in this game's case, the universe. I never in my life thought I would think of Mario as an epic hero and Bowser as an intimidating villain until I heard this theme. All versions of Bowser's road are fantastic including this one.
This song is perfect. Its the same enough as before to let you know ( for some) your first time hearing it was it was 20 years ago but yet its a new adventure. And for youngsters, its different enough to possibly agitate you to enough to be so hyped to finish the stage while anticpating meeting Boswer, eager to fight him.
Instead of remodelling UI and making resolution better for the Switch, Mario 3D All Stars should've been a full on remake on all the games, that would take years to make, but it's the thing all of us wanted and they could've started working years ago! But well it's Nintendo and their decisions...
It feels like the first part of the song is my self-doubt and fear of what is about to happen, but then this ethereal whisper that follows calms and guides me through. Ever since I first played the original, no song has ever gave me so much courage.
I remember this song from a Flash game on ClickPoint named "Mario Combat", I loved this soundtrack! It was so epic while I was fighting off the koopas.
This brings back so much nostalgia and not from Mario 64 (I wasn't born yet), but from the Galaxy games. This (along with Good Egg Galaxy) were some of the only tracks from Galaxy that I remembered for years to come, and that intro always got me pumped. And years later, when I bought Super Mario 64 on the Virtual Console, when I got to Bowser Road, I immediately recognized it as the Bowser Road theme from Galaxy. I love this theme. :)
There appear to be a lot of references to gayness in this series. "Nice of the Princess to invite us over for a picnic, Gay Luigi?" "So long, Gay Bowser!"
