Wow. Amazing build, shame about the blow torch but it certainly gives a well worn amazing look to it. Regarding the patterns, thank you firstly for making them free as I've been debating making a first order helmet for ages but given myself the excuse of not being able to find any decent patterns so i haven't built one, but i stumbled across this and was like "well they're free so might as well". Secondly, these are some of the best patterns I've ever used (exceeding the quality of many paid patterns I've used). They require so little cutting and yet produce a screen accurate form: I kept having to pinch myself as it only took me an hour to cut everything out. Absolutely amazing job on both the patterns and the prop. You defiantly earned my subscription here, keep up the good work :)
@ 6:30, it would be easier to cut the two halves separate, and cut the peak lines at a bevel, then glue them together. Just a suggestion. Loved the tutorial👍
You know Thomas, the one thing from Star Wars I'd love to see you sink your teeth into and build would be Mandalorian gauntlets preferably Heavy Infantry or Jango / Boba Fett
You could try. The rounded parts would be a little difficult, cardboard can't be heat formed to get the curves on the dome. It can be done but my pattern was made for foam. You should check out Dali Lomo on RUclips. He makes a lot of stuff out of cardboard.
I have finally got around to trying this build. I’m a little confused as to how the bottom rim is fitted though. I don’t see it in the video instructions but might be being a bit unintelligent 😀 anyone around that can enlighten me as to orientation of this piece. I can normally work it out but at a loss. Thanks !
Bottom Neck Rim is 2 parts, A & B. Cut them out and stick them together. The front is thicker and was a center line. This piece is the bottom of the helmet connecting to the "Under Chin" pieces in the front and wrapping around to the "Back of Head" pieces. Basically it pulls the underside together and lowers the pull on the wedges in the back. Hopefully that helps.
Much Props Thomas thank you. Sorry to have been a bit thick on this one. I love this build as the end result is very cool. Only thing is I made another schoolboy error on this. I used a sharpie to mark up the Eva foam. I then built the helmet and painted it white. Didn’t wipe off the sharpie first though. Now have pink R and L markings coming through the paint. Oh well it is going to get some battle damage in the right places. How is the full cosplay outfit coming along ? Keep safe chappie.
I've shown how to do battle damage here and there but never a video devoted to just techniques. Guess I probably need to make some of those videos. Cosplay Apprentice has some really good technique videos on his channel. Look at his "How to Cosplay For Beginners - EVA Foam Techniques" playlist. Punished Props, Odin Makes and SKS also have some helpful tips and tricks videos
For light use it holds up pretty good. With heavier use of a prop it might wrinkle up the paint job, but usually you can fix it by lightly heating up the area. There are lots of other options out there for sealing foam. I just like the convenience and lack of brush strokes.
My buddy cosplay Apprentice has a nice new calculator on his website to help with the percentage reduction. www.cosplayapprentice.com/Cosplay%20Calculators/cosplay-pattern-scaling-calculator My head is 24 inches around, and all builds I make are scaled to fit me.
@@Prrrrtt I use a sanding bit to knock off most of the foam. Then I run a stone bit over the top of that to smooth out the texture left by the sand paper.
what device are you trying to look at it on. It's an online PDF. Most tablets, chromebooks and cellphones don't open it. You have to be on a PC, or download an extension to your device that reads PDFs.
@@MuchProps hey dude, thanks for the reply. I enjoy watching a lot of the things you make. Though you should give the reply to another viewer because in all honesty RUclips hasn't notified me of a vid until now so I haven't seen a lot of your vids in a while :P

whats the chance of a masterchief helmet?
Cayde 6 mask !!!????
Thanks so much for this! One question: when cutting out your template, should I cut on the inside or the outside of the lines?
Cut the outside of my template lines from the paper and when you cut it out from the material, cut inside the lines.
How durable is the plastidip layer?
