One of my favorite little details about Loboto's Labyrinth is in the portraits of him that you find throughout the area. Yes, some of them are used by him to talk to you, but you can see that he's using all of them to keep an eye on the Psychonauts team while they're in his mind. If you maneuver the camera so his portrait is barely on-screen, you can see Loboto make tiny movements, like his body moving slightly when he breathes. He only "holds his breath" to stay 100% still when you point the camera directly at him to look at him, and then relaxes slightly again when you aren't looking.
Some of the details on this game are incredible. Every playthrough I've watched (I've watched a few by now... Don't judge me) have each found different details that honestly it's impressive
Woah that's such a cool detail
Dan: “I’m starting to worry about your fire fixation.”
Dan literally 15 seconds later: “Be on fire, be on fire”
Instant pyromania. Like my Skyrim play through.
“and then get PUNCHED”
Raz: "... And this one's true!"
Congrats on outing your old submissions as lies, Raz.
True psychic lies
It’s called fanfiction, sweaty
@@skibopmdada1152 It's called canon, incel.
@@PlebNC no i mean raz basically wrote fanfiction.
@@skibopmdada1152 Oh. Yeah, obviously. The "sweaty" part came across as an insult directed at me.
Ey! Love how the title is a reference to a line spoken in the first game’s tutorial level, while also being applicable to the tutorial level of the sequel. Clever!
This game took three swerves in the first 10 minutes, I love it.
Wonderful, time to play the, "Stay ahead of Dan so I can watch the videos" game
As someone who's already completed the game before these videos even came out... way ahead of you on that one :3
godspeed
I'm 12 hours ahead of this playthrough.. but I also did a *lot* of aimless wandering and just enjoying the amazing artwork and surroundings
That can be really tough. I tried to do that with Hollow Knight and nearly succeeded.
Just a quick heads up, you cant 100% levels on your first time through, so do your best but you will have to do the great Backtrackening to get everything.
Depends on the level. There are some I was able to do first time
2 things:
1. Whoever animated the blue blood vessels pulsing needs a raise because despite not having a dental phobia it unsettled me to the point I can feel them pulsing through my teeth.
2. Isn't using Psitanium as a currency weird? Rhombus of Ruin set it up as a bad thing and now we're keeping large quantities in our pockets.
Rhombus of Ruin was Psylirium, which was basically anti-Psitanium. Psylirium is disorienting to psychics and disrupts their abilities, while Psitanium amplifies psychic talents.
@@dreadman7543 Ahh... Fair enough. They have similar names and I haven't watched the Rhombus of Ruin playthrough in ages so I got confused.
7:00: I love the way the overture swells dramatically as the camera pans to...basically a Psychonauts-styled version of the Stardew Valley opening.
17:30: I guess a bit of "As you know" is inevitable when you release a sequel 15 years after the original.
30:40: It's like a cross between the ocean floor and a mouthy tumor. Which makes sense, I suppose, but it's also really neat.
1:05: More sequels released long after the original should have recaps like this (especially in interactive media, where they're easy to skip). It jogs the memory of people who experienced the original a while ago and makes the sequel more accessible to a wider audience. And this one is really stylish, I like it.
3:33: It's especially important if there was some other media in the franchise released in the interim that made changes to the status quo but didn't have quite the same impact/prestige as a true numbered sequel. Which makes it sound like I'm talking about Kingdom Hearts.
8:50: This is such a stupid scheme, I love it.
12:30: Oh gosh, look what they're casually doing just in the tutorial. I can't wait to see what levels based around physics gimmicks are gonna be like. (Also, look at the vaguely toothy shapes. Love it.)
19:30: Both of those would make collectable-hunting a lot more enjoyable. "It took ten minutes to find one piece of emotional baggage, but at least I saw some good jokes and learned about this character along the way."
36:50: Love the variety of emotional constructs ready to hold you back.
The first Psychonauts was my very first PlayeFrame. I feel so many feelings
Richard Steven Horvitz as a voice actor sounds pretty much the same in all his roles, but he is fantastic in everything he does. Super excited for the play!
I just 100%'ed this yesterday, and the only spoiler I want to share is that the game was an absolute delight! All the same old voice actors, the same kind of wacky weird world and likewise for the different brains you go into. Honestly just the nostalgia goggles which makes things hard to pick a favorite with this game and the original.
This game is everything a sequel should be - much the same, but deeper. (There are a few sidelined characters whose treatment irks me, but we can get into that later)
We're living in an age where so many good games are being revived with sequels. It's great to see! This one's gonna be fun 😄
We got like 3 this year alone. We are in the new golden age!
Loving this! More Psychonauts! Yay^^
40:25 This is the same room you visited before two times. Each iteration gets more... toothy and less mental construct. So you already gathered everything there was to find earlier.
I love how Dan is gushing about how good this game looks while surrounded with EXTREMELY challenging imagery. (He's right, of course, but WOWZERS it's unpleasant)
The fact that Moxie is the voice of the main kid threw me off.
I dunno how far you record these in advance, but a tip- If you miss how levitation worked in Psychonaughts 1 (Specifically, floating on the balloon and then transferring back to ball form in one movement before hitting the ground), there IS a option in the controls menu to re-enable that. The way it's named is... rather on the nose- "levitation ball pulldown from glide". I'm just mentioning it now cause I went through about 80% of the game before learning about it.
... Thank you for this, I am in the final act of the game and hadn't realised this!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Having played most of P2, This is gonna to be a treat
I know right
I really like how they made Oleander look in this game. He looks like a smooth, moist, flabby Dorito and I'm here for it.
I am here and my bod- I mean mind is ready for more PSYCHONAUTS!
I don't have the time/ability to play this right now, but i did watch Barry Kramer play it and DAMN is it good. In my opinion better than the original. It just... wow. It's gonna be awhile before the awe wears off.
Man, the enviroments look amazing! Personally, I wouldn't mind it if you took your time exploring like you said you wanted to, but I get why that might not be preferable in a let's play
The art of that beginning is so cccuuuuuuttteee!
Dan, you don't want to know what hot teeth smell like. On top of smelling terrible, it usually means there's a drill in your mouth (and pain if you're resistant to anesthetic).
Yep. I did not expect root canal flashbacks from this game lol
At 17:52, Oleander originally wasn't supposed to send that chair flying like that, but the developers thought it was so funny that they kept it in despite it being a glitch
Weird Dental Fact: A "Hot Tooth" Is a tooth with swelling in the tooth pulp usually caused by an infection. Due to the inflammation it can't be numbed as well if at all by anesthesia. Imagine getting a tooth pulled while you can FEEL it! Nightmare stuff
6:30 This transition is so good!
Those teeth doors are quite disturbing...
Dan not noticing the room is the same one getting more distorted is kinda funny.
I knew this game was gonna be good, but I didn't really feel like playing it, so I was secretly hoping you'd do an LP of it so I could experience it. This is perfect!
You could have talked to the workers in the very first room of the office sequence ^^ Also, during NerdCubed's first stream of the game, the devs popped in and mentioned that, during the Coach running around and away scene where he knocks over a chair, that was a bug that they just left in ^^
Also, there's an accessibility feature (I believe it's there) to move the glide function to 'triple jump' - i.e. moving it to the jump button
Yeees, P2!
Still haven't finished, but excited to see your experience with it
(btw, when Milla talks to you, you unlock a new setting to bind the psychic orb to jump instead of it taking a trigger ability slot)
Honestly, I found keeping Telekinesis and Levitation to the triggers actually helped keep them in my head. All the other powers I consistently bound to one front button or the other and it helped me keep track of what i was using and when.
How am I only discovering this now.... Dangit!
Yea it's a great accessibility option. Allowing glide to be triple jump and levitation ball out of glide let me keep another slot open. Useful!
Hearing Raz's voice after watching Helluva Boss hits different
100%-ed this over the weekend. If you enjoyed the original, I think you'll be VERY happy with Psychonauts 2!
Raz is ten and already has a job. What a successful little gentleman
Your playthrough of the first Psychonauts means a lot to me. Your enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and it was good vibes I really needed at the time. Looking forward to this playthrough so much.
A dental mentist's office
The disgusting teeth zipper also fits the "do not tell" story point.
Like that they didn't reset your powers to zero, just told you how to use them as you needed them, good tutorial.
i've heard of Psychonauts before but i had never attempted to play or see it, this looks incredible and Richard Horvitz is a gem of a voice actor, I'm excited to see more of this
I am EXTREMELY excited for this playthrough. I know you record these ahead of time but if i may make a request: dont edit out the collecting. Puzzling out how to get all the collectables is fun and watching someone achieve this is equally entertaining. Don't worry about boring us, just let us watch you 100% the game.
Edit: Not to backseat game ( even though I will :P ) you should try some random stuff a little more. Burning Lili's poster gets a funny little dialogue moment, and there are many MANY of those by doing all of your powers to any of the npc's at any given point in the story.
Anyone else want to see Dan drawn in the psychonaughts style?
I really did appreciate that instead of Metroid-ing Raz, he actually legit just has his entire kit from Psychonauts 1 from the start of Psychonauts 2 (even if you the player can't use them until he's prompted to use them in the tutorial). It really does make it feel like Raz is continuously getting stronger through the whole series.
"Regrets are dangerous?"
Oh boy. Let me tell you....
One of my favorite parts of the second game is the improvements to the expressions. It’s so fun just watching Raz’s reactions to things
The only Psychonauts 2 let's play I was ever excited for!
12:26 - Special cameo appearance by The Stanley Parable Adventure Line ™
11:15 "When in danger or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout"
"no problem, i'm sure i can do this in the dark." famous last words if i ever heard em.
Can we appreciate for a second that Sasha's formulas at 4:13 include "P=NP iff N=1"? It's such an amazing bad pun.
Can you explain it? I can interpret it, but I don't see the pun.
@@Salsmachev P and NP are two classes of problems, their name are an abbreviation for "Polynomial time" and "Nondeterministic Polynomial time".
"P=NP" is a famous shorthand for an open question in mathematics: are these 2 classes one and the same? If it was so, many problems that are famously computationally heavy could be solved in much shorter time, and that would have positive and negative consequences.
The pun is that you can read "P=NP" as an equation with variables P and N, as in "P equals N times P".
So "P=NP iff N=1" is like someone (jokingly) misinterpreting what "P=NP" means and saying "hey I solved this century-long-standing math problem with basic algebra😀".
@@8GigueBits Ahhh okay. I was looking for wordplay based on how it sounds rather than a math joke. It also doesn't help that when you have P and N it reads as statistics to me.
I haven’t seen anyone point it out, but the “talking turtle” is Mr. Pokeylope
Also, I forgot how adorable (and concerning) the little Pyro girl was.
Couldn't watch this when it was new because I hadn't played the game yet, but now it's a year later and I've finished the game and I'm excited to see you run through it!
Incidentally, if you've ever smelled burning hair, you know what "hot teeth" smell like. Speaking from experience as a dental assistant.
At long last. The sequel has arrived. And Dan is playing it! Christmas has come early!
I just finished this today. And I'm very excited to see you go through the experience, man, since you have such a high regard for it. It's nothing short of incredible. Tim Schafer and the entire Double Fine staff outdid themselves and truly made sure this was going to be an experience we will come to love deeply and never forget.
I love the little meta-reference to the first game's tutorial
Dentist: "Was that you screaming or me?"
Very happy that you are playing this.
I for one welcome your thorough inspection of all the environmental details :)
I appreciate your acknowledgement of the mental health advancements applied to this game
Yessss! I'm already loving what I'm seeing
Psychonauts has such cool concepts and art direction! I love the 2d effects for the abilities
Played the game last week, and was anxiously awaiting to watch your play through. Because of you I got into pyschonauts and honestly so grateful.
YEEHAW, I'm so excited to see you play this. I just finished a few days ago so I hope you enjoy all the game has to offer, it's something really special.
I just finished 100%'ing this game last night and I adored it so much. You're in for a real treat.
Just finished the game finally. So hyped when Playframe does a game and watching to see all the things Dan notices that I did not pick up on.
Also when he misses something obvious =P
That tooth zipper door, no this whole level deeply disturbed and upset me on so many levels.... I am going to cry myself to sleep and rethink every life decision I've ever made, like watching this🙁
AAHH!! yay! I have been waiting for you to play it :D gosh so excited
23:16 Me: Ugh! Those pulsating veins are so..
Dan: …upsetting
Me: …uhhh. Did he just…?
YEEESSSSSS! I knew you were gonna play this, but I didn’t suspect it to be this soon!
IM SO EXCITED!!! I was rewatching your og play through of 1 and the day I finished I heard 2 was out. IM SO HAPPY!!
YEEEES, I've been waiting for your play-through of Psychonauts 2!
I'm so... psyched for this playthrough! (be here all week, folks)
Pro tip: There are going to be things in these levels that you cannot get until you have certain powers, so backtracking is going to have to occur.
So who else binged this last weekend so they could watch this playthrough without risking spoilers?
I've been avoiding any and all spoilers for years since your original playthrough! Was also extremely happy with your response on twitter for the rest of the day. Enjoy the game Dan! We'll enjoy it with you
Fun fact, hot teeth is often described as smelling like tires. Wait that’s wrong, I mean well done steak
Just got to credits today. Gotta say, it was a pretty bold move for them to make every level after the first one just Meat Circus again and again, but hey, you gotta respect the creative process and admire the guts it took. Anyway, think you'll really enjoy this one! Have fun 😁
I suppose there would be a lot of guts in the Meat Circus.
I've been waiting for this letsplay specifically! I watched your 1 letsplay and rhombus in the lead up to this around a month ago. I loved it so I hoped you'd do this one too!!!! Thanks for the great content my dude!
I cannot think of a better title for this episode
Been holding off till I 100%ed this game myself to watch the videos. So excited to see your playthrough
Hello! I just wanted to say your Psychonauts stuff has been awesome to watch while allergies have been kicking my ass and it’s super early in the morning. Is my judgement a little skewed? Possibly. But watching you play this and bring out the story is fun
I know exactly what hot teeth smells/tastes like from when I got a root canal. You really don't want to know if you haven't experienced it.
Hurray! I've been soo excited to see you play this!
I just binged the first game and I'm actually glad this came out recently
If you're wondering what happened to Truman you can find the game a Wii on the PlayStation VR it's called Psychonauts the rhombus of ruin
17:51 the chair there is actually a physics glitch the devs kept in the game
Been excited for this day! :D
Just finished the game myself last Saturday and I'm psyched to see Dan go through it :)\
I love how they kept rhe style but updated it. And the story is so ❤😢. Cant wait to watch
Ive been waiting for this for years LETS GOO Dan
Just finished this, this is gonna be GREAT!!!
Mind boggling fun!
I’ve been looking forward to this!
Only on the second time watching this did I realise that Mr Pokeylope is the "Talking Turtle" in more than one way.
I just beat this game today. Dan you are going to LOVE this.
Been SOOO looking forward to this. Can't wait to click the play bu
I finished the game just yesterday. It was great! You'll have lots of fun!
So much fun I speed ran this game
I love the style of the memories
I love Raz so much he's just a little guy
Hooray, Psychonauts 2! I've beaten it already, and I've already had the itch to revisit it, so I'm happy for this playthrough to do that for me.
i don't really have a dental phobia, but even i'm like 😮🤭😰 ewwwww, with the teeth doors! this is gonna be a FUN game though! 😃
I couldnt wait to see you play this !!! HYPE!
