      Just wrote a comment on that... Canada lost out on the 2.7 all together... not only is it cheaper, but it has proven longevity and really for what I do is perfect motor... and mated to a 5speed would have been sweet.... little trucks are getting pushed to be big trucks again... Toyota was holding the line, but of course, what a few people want doesn’t sell. I’d have a 5 or 6sp 4Runner beside it too!!! That 3.5 is too little to be big, and too big to be little and decent on fuel. I’m not sure the real world mileage wasn’t better on the 4.0L

I really dont like the 3.5 with the 6speed tranny, seems like that is a carry over from 1998 and the slushbox doesn't do much for me either. I've never been a v6 fan in midsize trucks/midsize suv, they seem too big to be little and fuel efficient, and too little to be big with any real power. I guess i'd just rather have either the 4 with some efficiency or go right to the big v8 and get almost the same mileage.

      No. Toyota is OK with repeatedly alienating the same customer bases it created. Example: Toyota was once the king of the 4 cylinder, manual transmission, 2 wheel drive, regular cab pickup market. Then it eliminated the manual transmission and regular cab. Why? Because Toyota wants it's dealer's lots filled only with high priced, hence high profit, model cars and trucks.

    In other words, no significant changes. Same sluggish acceleration due to retarded spark timing combined with an automatic transmission that upshifts too soon. Same loud engines due to a poorly insulated firewall. Same abrupt, jarring and fatigue inducing ride motions due to huge wheels and tires combined with stiff springing. Same hard seats with poor thigh support. Same super high tailgate liftover height. The late 1980's - 1990's 2 wheel drive Toyota pickups rode more like a car, had larger and softer seat bottoms and low tailgate liftover height. And the 4 cylinder models back then had manual transmission availability.

    • @frankcee4342

    Has the 2.7 engine changed since the revamp of the V6 model in 2016? Is the 6 speed auto transmission the same piece of junk that's now used in the V6? Toyota supposedly put in a new auto tran after all the issues with the 2016/2017/etc but the web tells me the problems persist.

    • @frankcee4342
      @frankcee4342 4 года назад

      No. It's still a very under powered cheap piece of crap that cost Toyota $49 to build and sell to suckers. It's truly a safety hazard unless you're going down hill with a tailwind at your back and your foot to the floor.

    • @HolweckStage89
      @HolweckStage89 4 года назад +3

      There was no new trans. It was a flash via TSB. It's a big improvement! I suggest doing some research on the trans itself, it's pretty interesting as it is all electronic. It's not as under-powered as people would have you believe- they have clearly never driven a three cylinder. It is also the only engine they offer that was actually built for the application it is in. The V6 is just a car engine - the 4 cylinder is a truck engine. I suggest trying one yourself and see how you like it - but i will agree that they are absurdly over priced both new and used! If you can get a good deal on the 4 cylinder it is worth it, but i wouldn't pay above $15k for one! I have a 2017 access cab that i use as my daily and it's great for what it is, but it's not a $28k+ truck in my eyes.

    • @tieoneon1614
      @tieoneon1614 3 года назад

      The trans wasnt the problem, the gearing IS. They are geared WAY too high internally, even with 3.90 and 4.10 ratios. Nitro gear 4.88 feels like it was made for the trucks.
