Whattan absolute unit. I just love the simplicity and no nonsense
Justin, sometimes simple is easier. Good call.
In 2017 we bought a Tacoma Sport. This past summer my wife was in a bad accident not far from home while driving the truck. Because of the safety features the truck was totaled but it saved her life.
Tacoma regardless of the model level you get holds its resale value. GM, Ford and Chrysler’ doesn’t.
We just purchased a Tacoma Off Road to replace the damaged truck.
My money says go with Tacoma. It’s a great mid size level truck.
$28,465 for an indestructible 4x4 utilitarian workhorse is a fair deal. Who need a CD player these days anyway.
Too much for this work truck. Can be lowered to 25k w/out 4WD. 28k and change for a 4door 4X4, that’s doable.
Wow, an awesome truck...love it
I think its pretty telling I just bought a used, white version of this exact truck with 15,500 miles at a little over $30k and everyone I've talked to said it was a good deal. $2,000 above suggested retail price, new. Crazy.
The Tacoma is a great truck. I have the 2019 Tacoma SR Access cab 2WD V6. I really enjoy the truck. It would have been nice to have the 4WD but I would not use that feature much. Thanks for the video of the under carriage.
You are welcome. Enjoy your Tacoma.
Im sorry for you misfortune. Half a cab and half a wheel drive.
@@iantru9929 Why is it a misfortune? I really enjoy my truck. Meets my needs.
jetmechB727 - It isn’t a misfortune. I think you made the right choice. I never off-road so 4x4 would just be a waste of money and I think the access cab looks sportier. Especially if you don’t have kids or anything.. the access cab is the way to go.
Why take on more maintenance and weight? I would skip 4WD.
Seems like a great truck for the price. And not a lot of expensive stuff to tear up on it. Now if they could just make it as big as the first generation tundra. I'd be in one now. Mostly it's a seating position that bothers me. That's why I like my large truck better.
Perhaps it will grow a little in 2022.
Exact truck I'm planning on buying. I don't need all that extra stuff on my truck. Wish it could come even more stripped and get rid of carpet on the floor and power windows and mirrors.
My exact idea too so.... I bought my 2019 Nissan Frontier base truck no power shit to break .... Out the door & 18,000 (saved $ 10,000 bucks)
Not a Toyota but a great base truck...
@@billybob042665 wow ! That is a great price !
No power windows? That's hard core!
Access cab highly preferred
Back in 1987, I bought a new Toyota pickup, long bed, extended cab for a little over $10000.
I kept it for twenty two years with only one minor problem. I sold it after I bought my Tundra. I love Toyotas but $30000 is still a great deal of money!
For sure, every time I look at the window stickers I think the same thing. It blows my mind how much people pay for used Tacoma’s.
2021 models are going over $36,000. 5 grand over msrp.
The V6 comes with the tow package. 👍 Great video thanks so much!
Good! The back jump seats are only useful for 3-8-year-olds. A rear-sliding window is mostly useless too for a vehicle with standard A/C -- no, not being able to put eight-foot pieces of anything through the cab isn't a justification. See the slight misalignment drop on the passenger's side tailgate at 16:27? My '18 2WD SR+ has the exact same misalignment. A flaw, but thankfully, not too serious a flaw. However, Toyota charges a lot for these trucks and it's a reasonable expectation in 2020 for the body panel gaps of a brand new vehicle to be unnoticeable.
best job i seen ...very good review, puting it on the lift A++++
Kevin Broadway Thank you Kevin
I just bought one 2020 sr v4 2x4 love it took out on a small off road trail and handle well. A bit slow but it's enough for me
Same bro 💪🏽
How much did you get it for ?
@@qualitylandscapeandhauling7942 it was 26500 after taxes and all like 30k not 100% I was upside down on a car I traded in
@@mannycali334 Oh ok. Thanks ! I ask because my father wants to buy a Tacoma. But only for work. So he wants one that is basic and affordable as possible.
@@qualitylandscapeandhauling7942. Yea Tacomas are always expensive even buying a tacoma sr like mines a 2017 goes for like 24k
This is an older vid, I bought a 22 Tacoma sr Access cab 4x4 recently in June, I deleted the utility package as well, 2.7 motor is no race truck, but I knew that going in, I bought it for the simplicity of it and should last a long time. It has everything you need and nothing you don't. Upgraded to ko2 tires, slapped some rek gen mudflaps on, vent shades, and a decent bed cover, perfect for my needs, will be great in the tough North East winters. , I love this simple setup and would recommend it if you like simplicity.....
With the rear seats removed, we should have an option to add a middle seat.
Where are they going to put the transmission shifter if there's a middle seat? Toyota isn't going to change a bunch of stuff to put it on the steering wheel column.
@@Prepare2Survive
Maybe similar to the 2nd gen single cab? Up until 2014 or so, the 2nd gen had a single cab option with bench seat.
Thank you for this professional review.
“Trying to keep price low” for almost $30k for stripped out truck lol
Picked up mine for $25.5k at Prime in Saco, Maine. Same color as this one but it wasn't a "work truck" so it came with back seats and a few other goodies that the work truck leaves off. 4 x 4 with the legendary 2.7. My MSRP was $30,200. Bought it last November. You can deal on these big time.
James Velvet I was kidding but 25k for a indestructible vehicle is a good purchase
Purchased one exactly like this one $23,500 plus 6% sales tax, tag & title fees. Toyota incentive was $1,750 at that time.
Damn I payed 30k for a SR with SX package. I feel ripped off lol
Aren H still better than buying a used one
awesome content
Thanks for the feedback.
No CD player!
Those are not LED driving lights. Those are projector beam with condesent light bulbs that suck in the rain! I changed mine out with Lightning Dark LED H11’s and wow what a difference! I also added a pair of Baja Design squadron sport fog lights that are awesome!
Great video. I have been searching for this kind of video, not everyone is looking for the TRD with way too many bells and whistles. My big question is, Does this particular model and it's price range, come in the Cement exterior? I will be purchasing my very first Tacoma in a matter of a few weeks. I really want mine, to not have the rear seats, but I want the front end with a regular full painted bumper. I will make it real easy, I am looking for the V6, 4x4, Access Cab, Cement Exterior, painted front end, no rear seats, cruise control. What are my chances of this request? Thank you.
Edward Dillon Thanks for your comments Edward. Here’s a link to our current selection, www.smarttoyota.com/searchnew.aspx?Make=Toyota&Model=Tacoma&Trim=SR5+Double+Cab&Type=N
Great example of Toyota quality and value. I hate that our domestic automakers still have yet to match this vehicle even after more than 20 years on the market. We buy Toyota for our business and gm products for personal use. We've tried ford, gm, dodge over 15 years of truck use daily ranch chores and the Toyota stands alone. Here's the litmus test. Try to buy a Tacoma. Our ford, gm, dodge guys have 5-15 trucks sitting around to pick from. Toyota, we have to order every time. We use this setup and the vet runs a 4 runner. All severe duty everyday. They really just stand in a different category. But also. Most people just don't need that level of commitment from their equipment.
Excellent informative video thank you. You said color was magnetic grey? Did you mean metallic grey ,? Thanks
Great truck but why in the world would toyota not offer a carpet delete in such a package. A work truck should not have carpet.
Great question. It would make it easier to clean.
Great walk around! Thank you very Much
Thanks Rudy, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I'm looking for a SR in Silver, 6cyl. 4x4, with the SX Package. ( Black over Fenders, !6" Black Alloy Rims, Mirror caps, Handles) in upstate NY. Not one to be found, in NY State, does your dealership have any? Need a truck.
Awesome video!!! Great slow video of under carriage..how about giving tips on buying?
The best tip I can offer right now to buying a Tacoma is first find one, second buy it. All kidding aside, inventories are historically low, many dealer don't have any in stock. Those that do in our area will discount them (for reputation sake) but probably not as much when stock levels are high.
@@TalkingCarBiz thanks....one more question? Are the tacomas assembled in Mexico having more problems than American built ones? Thanks!
Thorough review! Good job bro. Thanks.
Good video. I'm waiting on a 2021 SR Access cab (V6 Tow Package) now. Looking foward to it. I like the look of the longer bed with access cab,,
Would you mind sharing how much you got it for?
@@THroneXII With a few other small upgrades, a hair over $30K
@@PrepperDawg thanks for the reply. Im trying to get a tacoma for around 30k. But every model with a v6 is automatically 35k+ in ny. I found a i4 for around 32k might jave to cut my losses and just get that. Need a 4x4 for the winter asap.
@@THroneXII I went to Carmax and bought 4wd 4 cyl. Love it so far. The Toyota dealers wanted 5 grand over msrp for the new ones.
I have heard bad things about these lately. Bad transmission and apparently have a thing for being unreliable. I got all of these off of Edmunds reviews. Is this true?
I have this truck in a 2019 model. The bonehead that decided work trucks do not need intermittent wipers needs to be fired.
harold maat I have a 09 wonderful multipurpose truck 140,000 basically been flawless, my only complaint is the non-intermittent wipers!
I agree. i ordered the part from eBay for about $75. I took about 15 minutes to install. Now i have intermittent wipers.
@@jetmechB727 , can you post the link ?
Great info thanks !
Why couldn’t the higher trim levels of the access cab get the utility package?
Those back seats are utterly useless. I never liked 4 doors on a truck, so my preference has always been a regular cab or an access cab.
If I had to choose one or the other, I'd take V-6 over four-wheel drive.
Can you put bars for a roof rack on an access cab roof?
What is the size of the bed????
60.5" long by 41.5" wide.
I love Toyotas but I'm not convinced that package is worth $28,000
First Name Last Name Trust me when I tell you this. You can pick a very similarly if not exactly equipped truck for about $24k to $25k.
True!
Here in Texas these trucks go for $24K not sure why this one is $28K???
Yes but dont forget it 4x4 ,at 24,000 you get the utility package
@@Kevin257 The review was done by a dealership. Did you expect them to tell you what they are willing to accept on RUclips?
Is the bed size 8 ft? Then it’s not a long bed
Nearly 30gs for a base model small truck. Madness
Brizzle412 Welcome to America
Daryl Hill- My friend bought a basic Tacoma in 2004 on sale for $9995. Welcome to 2020 and soon to be 2021
I have a 2021 Tacoma sr just 800 miles it shakes the back bed when I step on acceleration is it normal
Long bed? Pfft. This is the regular bed back in the 2000s.
Yeah I know eh, how far we have fallen.
When I was a kid people made of anyone who had a truck with a 6ft box instead of an 8ft box and now it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a truck with an 8ft box and 4.5 to 5.5ft is normal.
So sad, probably part of the "de-masculinisation" of society.
How does this ride on bumpy roads? Is it a harsh ride?
Its a truck
Trucks are meant for beatings
No Stick :(
Best is to get the jump seats and simply negotiate down to -25k. But that Automatic:(
No CD player? What exactly is wrong with you?
CD’s are stupid
They still sell CDs?
How did you get the dash buttons to illuminate?
Turned on the lights
Will the payload of this truck be able to handle a 4-Wheel Camper?
Get the v6 for towing anything somewhat large
@@Rocky-wu1ln Four-wheel camper is all about payload not towing, right?
Paco Edpalina oh yes you’re right, but the v6 still can handle more payload. Sorry I misread what you said
Actually the 4 cylinder can handle more payload than the V6. Look it up if you don’t believe me. I agree that you’d need the V6 for drivability when things get heavy though.
Toyota: STICK SHIFT BASE MODEL c'mon
does the driver seat have lumbar support?
Yes
This is rip off.. here in Vegas- with a seat in the back is $24,000 base model
Not a 4x4
and it as 2 speaker in the front door's it doze not have 4 speakers
inline 4 4x4 ? poor choice or engine
Remember every Toyota pick up made used a four-cylinder at one time ! Now suddenly it’s a problem?
Daryl Hill - Wow, good point. But I hear the 4 cylinder strains and possibly uses more gas while the 6 cylinder handles those same situations with ease. I bought a 4.6L V6 engine in the larger Tundra and regretted not getting the V8. It kept hunting for gears and had a hard time keeping up.
Anthony Lopez I average 21 miles per gallon around town and I have never got less than 20 and I average 24 mixed driving !And I also check it every single time since new, and it doesn’t use a drop of oil.
Daryl Hill - Wow, that’s great. Do you struggle passing on the highway?
Anthony Lopez no not at all, When you accelerate aggressively the engine Pulls very strong! But I would consider the six-cylinder if I was going to ever pull anything larger than a small trailer, but I have had the bed loaded with approximately 1000 pounds many times but I’m also driving pretty slow.
$28,000 for a truck with no cd player no back seat? Nah I'll pass on that, for that price better come with a CD player and a back seat.
Right? No CD player baffled me
Why would you need a CD player with Android Auto and Apple car play? I mean.. everyone these days has all their music on their phones.. usually.
Good luck
A CD player people still use those lol
Where would I even buy CDs?
No driving review so not much useful information. I rented one and found the engine performance lethargic, the ride comfort stiff and punishing and the seats hard and fatiguing compared, ironically, to my 27 year old Toyota pickup.
I noticed the same thing after sitting in a Tacoma for the first time. Seats are not that comfortable at all.
Trucks are overpriced!
Yup fuck that. Get a first gen tundra guys...
Sadly, now made in Mexico. Don’t believe me, look at any new 2020 build tag. This truck is tired. Same design since 2005. Overrated, overpriced and underpowered.
Made in Mexico.
Parts from Japan, truck assembly in Mexico
No access cabs are made in San Antonio Texas
rrt08 my access cab was made in San Antonio, texas
@@unknownlegend6275 yea i dont want my truck made by under paid mexicans lol
Everyday Allday My ‘20 TRD off-road access cab was made in Texas also.
