Wow, amazing journey Gabriel really enjoyed every part of it. Watching this almost feel like actually being there, giving us a view of other cultures life's.
I can't tell you how many times I enjoy watching this particular video. A few weeks ago, when I caught a train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, I got 1st seat! I was so giddy like a kid in a candy store & immediately thought of this video! The train rides are pricey. But, the view & luxury of it was memorable & priceless!
Hey man have watched all of your vids on machu picchu ....I haven't left my country in 15 yrs but dude you have inspired me..so last week I booked my flights from Newcastle England to Amsterdam...then lima then cusco....hoping I have as epic a journey as you... keep on keeping on man.
I remember the guy dancing from 5:10 , When I went with my sister to Machu Picchu I remember that I didn't tell her the guy was behind her and she got scared XD
Right on, much appreciated. Yeah I definitely plan to keep this thing going, stay tuned! Not sure where I'm headed for the winter but hope to go somewhere new, we shall see. Jamaica is on my list too for sure one of these days.
The train for Peruvians cost 10 soles for a one way ticket from Ollantaytambo tu Aguascalientes or from ACalienetes to Ollantaytambo. But the seats are not confortable and you may not find a free seats so you have to go standing up. And also, the puchase has to be done by the passenger showing identification. That means, as soon as a Peruvian arrives in Cusco, he/she must go straight to the train station to get the tickets.
Great video! I remember being on that train and since the tracks are narrow gauge, it is so slow. I don't think you go more than 20 miles per hour -- its like being in a 3 hour long school zone! But super cool views and music to accompany it. This whole series has been nothing short of spectacular. Thanks for all the effort in putting it together.
Oh, man. I'm hoping you go to Bolivia next. similar to Peru without machu picchu. Lots of sight seeing. Epic journey, Gabe. A life changing experience to machu picchu.
I was really looking forward to going to Bolivia, but reality set in and I just ran out of time and money. Since my flight is out of Bogota, Colombia, it was more practical for me to start heading that way, so I'm in the north of Peru already (see my latest videos). Bolivia will have to wait for another trip, but I'm looking forward to Ecuador at least.
Nice videos! Cant wait to get out on the road again in a few weeks! Anyways always like your videos, and noticed your audio is great much better than before!
I wondered how to make connections from city to city, as I want to go from Cusco to Chinchero in the AM then to Pisac for lunch and stay overnight there. It looks like you just go wherever the combis congregate and mention your destination. Big thx for this series. I've been watching your vids for a year or longer off and on. You have come a long way (no pun intended). Your videos are better produced, and have content that is interesting. The only thing I would like to see more of is exchanges with locals. I realize it takes a certain attitude to just walk up, stick a camera in a strangers face and start an interview, some can, many can't. I lean towards the can't side myself. But most people are friendly, and willing to help. Maybe a short simple, "Con permiso senor(a), me ayude con un breve video de me recuerdos? Keep on, keeping on.
Another great video with only one major criticism, not long enough but no matter the length I'd say that. And oh yes the music at times, but seriously you make great videos.
Were the walls of the houses of machu pictures plastered and painted or was it always so stark? Regardeless it's a breathtaking sight worthy the difficult climb. It is not healthy dwelling in the thought of what the in as could have achieved if not conquered. They spanned high cliffs over rivers with suspension bridges made out of ropes and continuously repaired.
Thanks for sharing great videos of your travels! Are special permits required to visit machu picchu? I thought they limited the number tourists by requiring guides and permits?
+Chococak Hi! and thats not true, you can go and pay a tour to go to Machupicchu! but there is a thing that I saw! he is getting the trail expensive... I know that the train for tourist, the cheapest is 88$! Remember you have to pay for the bus to Machupicchu if you dont want to hike the mountain like he said. Any question, Let me know :) Im from Perú btw.
Muchas Gracias Giancarlo! I would love to hike to Machu Pichu and see Machu Pichu some day. But after seeing the hike I'm not sure I could do it. And if I don't need a special guide and permit I can go there with less planning and for less money.
I really enjoy watching your videos and thanks for the tips! Do you remember what hostel you stayed at in Cusco and the 2 day and 1 night MP tour you mentioned in the video, is that run by the hostel or run by The Magic Bus? Thanks!
Hi, I show the hostel I stayed at in this video: ruclips.net/video/lxp0y52hyVY/видео.html The 2-day trip to Machu Picchu could be booked through my hostel but I think they just called an outside company. You can find that deal all over Cusco no problem.
Great videos and very informative , i am going there myself in January but i will probably spare myself the 10 mile hike , could you please tell me if you had any problems getting your main rucksack onto the train as i had heard that there are size restrictions .
Once again I am having my adventures through you. If we met I'd probably give you a bro hug and talk about where we're traveling next as though we're traveling buddies. Lol
Right on man, check it out, looks like I can reply to your comments now! Maybe youtube finally changed things for everyone, hoping so. Thanks for watching, stay tuned for lots more. :)
hey nice video. very informative.. just have a couple of questions tho. how much is the train ride from aguas calientes to ollantaytambo? you mentioned you saved some money by taking that train instead of the one that goes all the way back cuzco. also you said the train ride from cuzco to aguas calientes was $80. is that for a one way. or a round trip? O_o. thanks a lot.
Depends which one you mean. The hike up to Machu Picchu is short but very intense uphill. The hike from Hidro-electrica to Aguas Calientes is longer but easier. There's a video for each one if you click the link in the info section below this video.
Thank you for sharing this video. Can you travel from the states straight to Cusco or its more cost effective to travel to Lima, than, transfer from Lima to Cusco? Are you able to use us dollars in Peru or you were able to us credit card, or you have to us peru sols? Are there alot of english speaking people there? Thanx
Love your videos man! I'm travelling to Machu Picchu next month and just booked my train tickets based on your recommendation to train it from Ollantaytambo instead of Cusco. Are the seats assigned?, or did u just land that awesome front seat when you showed up?
There is no bus that goes to Aguas Calientes. You can only get there by train or walking. So you can take a bus partway such as to Ollantaytambo and then you have to take the train from there to Aguas Calientes. Or you can hike from Hidroelectrica or walk the Inca trail.
Great Gabe, I have been watching various videos about South American tourism. But your video is extremely practical and great tips on travel costs and routes. But how come you are wearing Lord Ganesh T Shirt :) :)
Great footage Gabriel! I suscribed and I'm catching up with all the Peru-Machu Picchu videos you have in your channel even though they're from a few years ago. hey there, the cheapest option is the route that passes through Hidroelectrica. It involves walking but only about 15kms and it's very easy. The rest of the way is by bus. This way you avoid paying for the train. You can buy a 2-day round-trip package in Cusco for less than $100 if I remember correctly. However if you don't want to do that then I'm afraid the only option is to take the train, either from Cusco to Aguas Calientes and back, or you could save a little money by going by bus from Cusco to Ollantaytambo and then train to Aguas Calientes. There's no bus to Aguas Calientes. Hope that makes sense!
It did, I've spoken with friends and relatives that have visited Machu Picchu so I follow you. Hey I see you've been in my country when visiting Antigua and Semuc, hope you enjoyed your time here.
Hi Gabriel there is a Inca rail train that would cost less than Peru rail is that true?? and there is bus instead of combies???? going Cusco to Ollantaytambo or back in forth !!!!!
Gabriel. In going in 10 days. I'll be with hiking group but then I'm breaking off on my own to stay a couple extra nights in Aguas Calientes, so I'm on my own to find way back to Cusco from Olly trajn station. I'm pretty nervous lol. But from my research and this video, it seems like there is always lots of taxis and collectivos picking people up, is this correct?? Thanks! Love your videos
I was okay with it though I felt a little light-headed at times. Different people react differently to it. It could be a problem if you fly from Lima or other places at low elevation straight to Cusco without acclimatizing. I went by bus first to the city of Arequipa which is at a lower elevation and stayed there a few days before going to Cusco.
Hi Gabriel just wanted to ask how you were able to get that seat? are seats assigned prior? Did you have to arrive at the train station early to get that spot? My husband and i are traveling this june and would really like to get the same seat you had for amazing photos.
hi Kristel, I didn't request the seat, I just lucked out and ended up there. It was an assigned seat though, so it isn't a matter of just getting there early. I'm not sure if maybe you can request a seat when you purchase the ticket but it's worth a try.
Yes. I booked my room in Ollantaytambo online beforehand. It was a nice little room for I think $15. Then I had a room in AC for $10 that wasn't as nice but it worked okay and I found it by just asking around in town.
Hey Gabriel , so you went to lima first? or went straight there? I'm wondering if I should book a flight to cusco or what's the best to get to cusco from lima? Thanks great video !
I think you have to fly to Cusco from Lima, but you could just have a layover in Lima. But I stayed in Lima for two nights and then went by bus to Arequipa, then to Cusco.
I'd say that's about right. I've been spending probably $1,000 per month (not exactly sure). But with two you will save some money per person so that seems pretty right on.
I did not see the entrance fee to Maachu Pichhu in this video nor the price for yr train ride back. The fare to Cusco by train u said was $80! Im wondering if the train & bus ride wd hv cost u the same!
I think I paid $80 for the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, if I remember correctly. I don't remember how much the entrance fee was to Machi Picchu but to the best of my memory it was around $45.
They're definitely jacking up the price, it seems. However it was still totally worth it. Not sure if you saw my previous videos in this series but it was a matter of skipping not only the 10-mile hike, but after that a 5-hour series of crazy bus and taxi rides through the mountains to get back to Ollantaytambo, part of which was a rather terrifying drive on a dirt road with sheer cliffs and a maniac driver. So, it was worth it to have a mellow, easy, safe train ride going back.
+Hoz Holla The King and Queen you refered are Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo, founders of the Cusco city, it´s part of the inca´s mythology. You can search on google for more information (n_n)
disarmsox Indeed there are two companies, the chilean peru rail and the peruvian inka rail, both are thiefs taking the money of the tourist and doing a monopoly for the access to machu pichu.
Excuse me, but all the people i've seen in this video offering taxis, restaurants and hotels services, looks like peruvian people, or maybe they aren't?

Awesome, yeah any way you get to Machu Picchu, it's guaranteed to be an adventure.

Hi Gabriel ?
It's really helpull for my trip to my Peru.
I live my life through you Gabe lol watch all the videos, hello from Chicago, IL
Cool, thanks Noe! Greetings from Holland.
I did the opposite, bused up and walked down. You're a trooper if you hiked it Gabe.
It was seriously intense hiking up there, no doubt about that.
Gabriel Traveler I bet!
Awesome video, Gabriel. That's the vista dome.? How did you get those seats again?
Thanks. It was just luck that I got the front seat.
As in, its open seating? Cool
No, it was assigned seating, I just happened to be assigned that seat.
Oh, man. I'm hoping you go to Bolivia next. similar to Peru without machu picchu. Lots of sight seeing. Epic journey, Gabe. A life changing experience to machu picchu.

Awesome, glad to hear it, on all counts.
3:02 Geeze, that restaurant's banner looked like the covers of the Deathstalker movies.

Hey Gabriel, did you have any problem with your large backpack in the train? I've just read that you can only bring a small luggage.
No I brought my backpack on the train without any problem.
Amazing train

there's a photo of GANESH / GANAPATI on his ti shirt
awesome video,as always✔

One more suscriber. :) your videos are great and make me feel like I was there.
Where is that 2 day tour Gabriel?
90 bucks thats a bargain. I've hiked the 4 day 3 night Inka Trek Tour and paid nearly $300.
You can find the day tour all over Cusco. I saw it offered at my hostel.
Love your videos man! I'm travelling to Machu Picchu next month and just booked my train tickets based on your recommendation to train it from Ollantaytambo instead of Cusco. Are the seats assigned?, or did u just land that awesome front seat when you showed up?
The seats are assigned, but I just totally lucked out in getting that seat. Maybe you can request it. Have an excellent trip.
+Gabriel Traveler Thanks man!!
Hey nice video. quick question can you take a bus or multiple bus from Cusco to Aguas Calientes or do you have to split it bus/train
Hi, thanks. I got the Ganesha t-shirt when I was in India 2 years ago.
Great footage Gabriel! I suscribed and I'm catching up with all the Peru-Machu Picchu videos you have in your channel even though they're from a few years ago. I am making a trip in a month there and I was hoping you can share some advise on the best way to get from Cusco to Machu Picchu transportation wise and staying within budget? Keep in mind hiking is not to be considered because I am not traveling alone.
hey there, the cheapest option is the route that passes through Hidroelectrica. It involves walking but only about 15kms and it's very easy. The rest of the way is by bus. This way you avoid paying for the train. You can buy a 2-day round-trip package in Cusco for less than $100 if I remember correctly. and there is bus instead of combies???? going Cusco to Ollantaytambo or back in forth !!!!!
Yeah that won't be a problem. Especially right from the train station there will be lots of options, should be a minivan waiting for the train.
Awesome, Thanks so much for the quick reply, means alot! Safe travels!
how was the altitude? i heard some people get sick from that.
Thank you! I am going there over Thanksgiving.
Which out of the 4 different trains were you riding here?
is there a bus from aguas calientes to Cusco, or did you just want to try the train?
No, there isn't a bus between Aguas Calients and Cusco, I think because there isn't a road. You can only take the train or else hike.
+Gabriel Traveler Thanks for the info. :)
Can you just wait to get hotel in AC and Olly when you arrive? Decent availability? Average prices for Hotels?
Arequipa it's a good city? you took
a bus there to cusco or train?
TheMrHorosho Yes, Arequipa is really nice. I went by bus from there to Cusco.
Thank you Gabriel !! but you went to cusco by Bus or train?
TheMrHorosho By bus, I don't think there is a train from Arequipa to Cusco.
Mate, the waiting is too long for each video! I get anxious cuz your videos are amazing! Keep it up with the good work!
Right on man, glad to hear it! Well just wait because another one is posting in 19 minutes (just a practical one about my hotel room though).
That'll be enough! Thanks mate.
And another one either this evening or else tomorrow showing some scenes of "real-life" Peru that should be pretty interesting.
+Gabriel Traveler You're great!
How did you work the bullcrap expensive tickets for all the cultural stuff?
Amazing video
What time of the year did you go? Thinking of going around May.
This was in October of 2015. I'm pretty sure May is a good time to go. I know December-March is the rainy season.
Thanks for the info. Keep up with the great vids & safe travels!
Nice 👍🏽
would you recommend buying train tickets before getting there? if so how ?
Yes, definitely book ahead, I booked my ticket online at amtrak.com.
sir, which camera and editing software u use?
Hi, camera info is always listed in the description below each video. I edit with Videopad video editor.
very nice
Nice one sir
hey Gabe, can this type of travel b done on $1500 a month fir 2 people?
I'd say that's about right. I've been spending probably $1,000 per month (not exactly sure). But with two you will save some money per person so that seems pretty right on.
Appreciate it, thanks and stay safe. Peace and love always.
whats the name of the tour of the hostel
The tour of the hostel? Not sure what you mean.
Gabriel Traveler thks!
thums up for your GANESHA .shirt
Wow ,you have god shiva on your t.love from india and jay bhole ki
A nice glimpse, so you didn't want to hike? $80 seems ridiculous.
Oh yea, I saw that. Good call.
The train was a ridiculous price. I wish I knew this before I went to Peru.

If the Quechua people are direct descendants of the Inca I doubt the King and Queen looked anything like that...
+Hoz Holla The King and Queen you refered are Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo, founders of the Cusco city, it´s part of the inca´s mythology. You can search on google for more information (n_n)
it's a shame the train is operated by a non Peruvian private company and none of the money goes back to the people of Peru.
Indeed. I would assume that at least some of the profit would stay in Peru.
