+True Mexico The train will get another rider from me on the way back! It's worth the extra money to avoid going that route back again. Plus I'm sure the views from the train will be awesome, and a little more relaxing.
I don't think the road is bad.. actually it looks good .. IT IS THE FUCKING DRIVER that you have to be scared off... idiot using both lines all the time even when there isn't a car in front..
I am pretty sure constant fast driving over those dirt roads kills those tires pretty fast..I know I would still probably take this option over the train though, not only because its cheaper but also because it seemed a little more adventurous...good vid!
The train for me as well if I am ever there. What a harrowing trip wow but at least he put his cell phone down. Insane is right but have a beer or two.
Coming up to 6 years old and still a great video Gabriel. I don't know how you stuck it for 3 hours - I think your expression said it all! And then it got worse! Still, you made it through to tell the tale. Cool to look back, this was filmed way back before I started following your videos so have never seen it before. Will catch the rest of the series in the coming days!
Cool man, tons of old stuff if you can stand the bouncing camera. I made a playlist starting with the very first one I posted: ruclips.net/video/skraDTnguL4/видео.html
A little late watching and commenting on this video, but I thought it was funny that those kids are singing to Pitbull's - El Taxi (english translation) I Met her in a taxi, going down to the club For me she stopped The taxi
Dude, thanks God I found your vids. I'm thinking to go this May to Machu Picchu, and I was worried about my budget for the train. Now I have an option! I'll take the train on my way back from machu picchu.
Basically it's either Bolivia or Ecuador. I'm running out of time and money to head to Bolivia, because my flight back to the U.S. is out of Bogota, Colombia. So I might have to start heading back north. I'd be really bummed to miss Bolivia though, so I'm going to see what I can do.
Gabriel! My background is Ecuador, and I'm curious to know, If you do go, what city or cities do you plan to visit?? From my experience, we have better roads so do not be afraid to ride the taxi or bus, haha! Love you vids!
There are different ways to do it, for example you can buy a package that gets you from Cusco all the way to Aguas Calientes (via Hidroelectrica) and back, everything paid for, I forget how much, maybe $100 or even less? I did it independently, the shared buses from Cusco to Ollantaytambo are only about $5 if I remember, and then the buses to Hidroelectrica were cheap as well. So I can't give one number because it all depends, but you can do it very cheaply.
The cheapest way is to go via Hidroelectrica and walk the train tracks (avoiding the expensive train ride). I was in a shared mini-van in the video, which I found in Ollantaytambo. In the next video in the series I hike the train tracks to Aguas Calientes. Here's that video: ruclips.net/video/-MyQtpYpA6k/видео.html
+Gabriel Traveler hi Gabriel, I'd really like to know, what websites do you go on in order to book your reservations in general when you travel? Thanks! :)
your videos are great dude thanks alot! one more question, if i land in cusco airport, is.there any taxis that would bipass ollatatambo and go directly to santa.teresa? or hidroelectrica
Yes, there's a package deal you can buy in Cusco that includes everything including accommodation for a night in Aguas Calientes. They drive you from Cusco all the way to Hildroelectrica, drop you off, you hike to Aguas Calientes, stay there a night, go to Machu Picchu, hike back to Hidroelectrica and then they drive you back to Cusco, all in just two days. You can find that package deal all over Cusco, and if I remember it's only around $100 for the whole thing including hotel and maybe even the ticket for Machu Picchu, I forget. I didn't do that one myself obviously.
That looked like an amazing ride. thanks for the info about Amsterdam market. I will definitely eat there. Me being a Colombian, we have the idea that Peru is difficult to travel. you just proved that what people say is not always true. And also by being raised in America and being told Mexico is dangerous, i think, well it is common sense. (I loved your Mexico DF video btw)
Gabriel Traveler hi Gabriel. We lived in Perú for 9 years , some of that in the south where theses shots were taken.i travelled this exact road when it was a lot rougher , I have a photo of the bend you go around at 4.48 minutes, where the water comes down across the road. My colleague is in the water with a stick to see how deep the water is, we eventually crossed! Great country, great people and great video, many thanks, Rob.
this is another way to go to Machu picchu? Because when i went to MP i took the train from Ollaytaytambo, thinking this is the only way apart the inca trail to get to MP, iwas just afraid from the dirt road, but i like these smalls towns, the nature, maybe next time i take this way, btw Cusco province has a lot of money cause in the jungle from cusco there is a big gas plant that gives 1 million dollars to the cusco city monthly plus money from tourism, unfortunatly all the money goes to Lima the capital, Cusco should be perfect from all the money they get from what i mentioned but Peru goverment works not good at all, if you know what i mean.
+Karlita daz - The amount they used to get from the CANON or distribution of total obtained by the State from exploitation of natural resources used to be $1.4 million dollars daily, now the number has gone down, but still they get close to one million dollars daily, with so much money and of course the tourism, Cusco and Ancash should be the wealthiest regions in Peru, the truth is in paper they are but when you go there you don't perceive it, sad but truth.
+taj400 Read my other post here. They plan on erecting a gate and guardhouse on this "backroad" to charge additional fees and control entrance to the area.
Indian and Mexican food continue to be my favorites. But the last time I was in Thailand I tried a lot of dishes I hadn't had before and I was reminded of how good Thai food is.
Well, after that I know it will be the train for my wife and me. If the ride didn't kill me she would. I noticed the people in the taxis using cell phones, do they have reception all the way up there?? How much did the taxis cost? Great trip Gabe, thanks for taking us along.
Yeah I don't recommend this route for the faint of heart. Plus, then there's the 10-mile hike along the train tracks. The 3-hour van ride was 50 soles ($15), the death-defying taxi ride was 10 soles ($3).
Looks like an amazing adventure I have a good friend who is based in Peru and I've had an invite to visit this amazing country but waiting on the UK covid restrictions to be lifted to South America time will tell that trip is one great challenge take care Gabriel and enjoy your road trips and be safe x
nice views but this didnt talk at all about prices, locations or anything... Im trying to plan a trip to peru and to see machu picchu and you didnt even go there in this video nor did you talk about prices. You went out of the way to somewhere else which while beautiful wasnt helpful for my needs which i only clicked this because of the title....Frustrating.
Hi, this was on the way to Machu Picchu. This video is the first video in a 5-part series about my adventure to Machu Picchu, in which I take the route to Hidroelectrica, which is in fact the cheapest way to get to Machu Picchu. So write down Hidroelectrica and search around for that, or you can also ask people about it when you get to Cusco in Peru. But you're right that I didn't talk much about prices in these videos. However I do have videos that are all about how much things cost in Peru, try this link: ruclips.net/user/gabejedmosearch?query=Peru+expensive
The journey to Santa Teresa was truly insane! I'm sure you couldn't wait for it to be over!
That is soooo amazing! Machu Picchu has been on top of my list for years! You have just inspired me to make the dream come true even faster!
Awesome.
I really enjoy your videos Gabriel!!!! subscribed!!!
Awesome, thanks a lot.
Since I'm planning a Peru adventure for next year I thought what better place to start than with my favorite travel guide Gabriel Traveler.
We're waiting...I also love your dining experiences
The Perú is Wonderful
is Amazing..
My stomach could not make that trip, but simply wow! Great video
What a journey!
I bet the train gets more bookings after people seeing the alternative option on that death road! That meal must have been great after that trip ;)
+True Mexico The "back road to Machu Picchu" hasn't been widely promoted. Only those seeking adventure and without money go that way.
The driver is on that road multiple times, every day.
Hoz Holla maybe right... but it doesn't mean anything... that guy is still and idiot and reckless driver.
That car ride seemed pretty awesome itself. Those canyons and valleys and cliffs are insane!
I watched this one last..but I loved all of them..I always wanted to go and now I get to at least see what it''s like. thank you Gabe
Right on, glad you enjoyed Brenda. :) Two more in this series still coming.
I am pretty sure constant fast driving over those dirt roads kills those tires pretty fast..I know I would still probably take this option over the train though, not only because its cheaper but also because it seemed a little more adventurous...good vid!
Now I want to go to Peru x
yes many ways , walking , biking ,, by train , taxi , etc buss , cars etc
my guess would be the groove in the roads would have been for drainage in wet weather maybe
awesome videos man thanks for opening my mind
The train for me as well if I am ever there. What a harrowing trip wow but at least he put his cell phone down. Insane is right but have a beer or two.
Views are incredible...
that beautiful landscapes and highways do not have to worry about a trooper like he highways in Florida
that road is kinda amazing!!!try HALSEMA HIGHWAY next time😊
...nice road trip..interesting!!

This reminds me of Oaxaca.

locombia24 hey man I'm thinking of going there tomorrow, how was your trip? Did you make it?
Fun travels! Where to next?
Basically it's either Bolivia or Ecuador. I'm running out of time and money to head to Bolivia, because my flight back to the U.S. is out of Bogota, Colombia. So I might have to start heading back north. I'd be really bummed to miss Bolivia though, so I'm going to see what I can do.
I totally understand...

Hi, I did go through Ecuador from Peru, visited Cuenca, Banos and Quito, it was great, really enjoyed Ecuador.
Awesome video!
Thanks.
Hi gabriel, much is the ride to hyrdoelectrica from cusco? The trains are too expensive and I am good on my legs.
There are different ways to do it, for example you can buy a package that gets you from Cusco all the way to Aguas Calientes (via Hidroelectrica) and back, everything paid for, I forget how much, maybe $100 or even less? I use hostelworld and booking.com mostly. Also check out this video with more ideas for booking rooms:

I love thee video, I almost had a nervous breakdown and I was sitting on my living room watching that nasty looking road!!! Yikes.
your videos are great dude thanks alot! one more question, if i land in cusco airport, is.there any taxis that would bipass ollatatambo and go directly to santa.teresa? or hidroelectrica

So did you get this ride off the street like hailing a taxi? Or did you book this ride in advance? I'm about the deets thanks.
I asked at my hostel where to get a bus towards Santa Teresa, and they said to just wait in the main square and people would come by there.
Yes!! Thank you!!

+taj400 So where does the money go? Corrupt politicians?
My guess is as good as yours, unfortunately corruption in Peru is rampant.
+taj400 Read my other post here. They plan on erecting a gate and guardhouse on this "backroad" to charge additional fees and control entrance to the area.
I'll look at it, did not know about this.
The food in Peru was some of my favorite food. Is there a country you have enjoyed the food more than others?
Indian and Mexican food continue to be my favorites. But the last time I was in Thailand I tried a lot of dishes I hadn't had before and I was reminded of how good Thai food is.
