Ahhh yeah you're in the best situation! I recently purchased an iPad Mini and three days after my return period, they announced the new version hahaha! I was very grumpy!!
I was about to buy the VM40... Luckily, I said, hold on! Why buy just one, the incremental price for the dual-mic is worth it, bingo. [Sorry! looks like you were an early adopter and lost out 🙅♂🙁] I can think of a connection flexibility (USB, Wireless USB, TRS, TRRS) of the VM40 makes it! ... that's the main reason I bought it. I have it set up via the USB receiver to the computer, so Wireless from the Mic to the Receiver. HERE's a very cool thing I stumbled on to. I didn't want to disconnect the receiver on the computer and I have a DJI Mic2 system as my primary on my Pocket 3. I connected each DJI MIc2 Transmitter to each of the VM40 Mics. VOILA! I have a set up that works with ANY mic. And moving back and forth to the computer is EZ PZ. One QUESTION: 2 Mic vs. 1 for voice overs, thoughts? I put both on my computer (because they were there) vs. the standard 1-mic voice over. I was shocked how much "fuller" my voice sounds. When I asked Curtis Judd (expert) about it, he was concerned about Comb filtering (which I had never heard of but studied up), he also said if it works for you, go for it. Since you're supposed to be ~8-10" from the mic, I have a diagonal set up. Right mic points at the left side of my mouth, Left mic to the Right, supposedly the diagonal help keep plosives away from the capsule, blah blah blah. Any experience in this regard? I gather 2-mic Voice overs is no "a thing". IF THAT's TRUE, I'm claiming I invented it 😆
Great Review, I use the VM20 mounted on my camera for most of my shoots and the Vimo C3 Lav mics when I'm doing interviews. Shooting in a very busy and noisy diesel performance shop can be challenging and both of these mic systems have performed really well. That said, I was considering upgrading to the Vm30, then noticed the VM40 was released, so I'm thinking this might be my next upgrade and I like it's versatility. As for the hair on the chin, just be glad it wasn't a big white hair sticking out of your nose or ear....neither of those scenarios are fun, but sadly a weird thing you worry about when your 55, lol.
@@CoZChristopher Thank you brother., Yeah it's always after your done shooting and realize it's not something you can just edit out, especially on a really tight deadline and you just hope no one notices. lol
@@CoZChristopher gotta love it bro💪🏽 overall , the sound is pretty dang clean too. I EQ & Compress more than most, so if this thing is even a notch or 2 up from my VM20, I couldn’t imagine the final quality. Great video as always
Great info. Just subscribed! Do you mind sharing information on the tripod you are holding while sitting in your living room? It looks perfect for my set up.
Hey thank you for checking the video out!!! I am glad it was helpful! That is a FeiyuTech Carbon Fiber Extension I purchased from Amazon on a small cheap tripod that came with one of my gimbals. I purchased a few of extension for around my studio and they are great because they're strong and can support a lot! Here's an affiliate link if you want to see the one I used: amzn.to/3C1qpJr It's $13!!
I found the legs separate from the gimbal as well. But these are all the same depending on which system you use FeiyuTech, DJI, etc.. This is also an affiliate link: amzn.to/3C2zF00
shotgun mics are meant to be used outdoors. If used indoors, the reflection will hit the sides of the shotgun and cause distortion. When used outdoors, there's no reflection and the microphone will use the sound picked up from the sides and reject those sounds.
Great video! I just got the mic and I can't figure out how to extract the 32bit float files from the onboard recording - i'm on a mac, not sure if that matters?
Hey!! Thank you for checking out the video. Unplug the Mic from the camera or Mac. Turn off the Mic so its not on by holding the Wireless/Safety button. When it's completely off, hold down the function(Rec) and Mode(safety) button at same time for about 3 seconds and it will turn on into copy mode. Then you can plug into your Mac/PC and get the content off!
Great video but sadly not convinced that the VM40 will be any good at all after the experiences that I've had with Comica products to date. However Sony do a wireless shotgun mic (ECM-G1) and so do BOYA (BY-MM1W) And in all honesty everything that I've bought that has been Comica, has been terrible and tinny with nothing professional about it at all. The Ejoy Uni Pro, C3, Boom X-D PRO, Traxshot Pro and most disappointingly the VimoQ have been such a waste of money for me and my Tech channel, that I refused to do even an unboxing video on them all, mainly because it would have been pointless as no review would have been done on any of them after. The Vimo Q receiver failed to work from day one (couldn't even be bothered to return it so that went straight in the bin), this was my last and final comica product that I bought. The Ejoy Uni Pro just refused to connect and stay connected via the wireless option (worked ok on cable though) and sounded very tinny and had no depth to it The Traxshot Pro just felt like a gimmick and the audio results were just average and nothing special (again sounded very tinny) The C1 and C3 sounded like you were talking into an walkie talkie (yes it was that bad) along with the USB C male to USB C female and female 3.5mm jack that was supplied, refused to work on any of my mobile phones/tablets or PC/Laptops and all displayed the message not compatible ???? The Boom X-D Pro were again just average audio sounding quality on playback, but in fairness this was the only Comica microphones that did just pass as being usable . Sadly ill never be buying anything Comica again, but maybe oneday Comica might produce something worthwhile having that sounds professional, which you'd expect from the prices that they are asking.
I'm sorry for your issues. I have two sets of vm30 and vimo Q. They work and sound well (for the prices). Howewer, I agree it's not so professional. But let's be honest, most comica target audience is content creators, especially beginners and amateurs, so there should not be expectations for professional tech.
Great timing! I was just looking into the previous version wishing it had a few upgrades and this is perfect 👌

Those ASMR clips are ace man! I do field/design recording so that helps. ✌️

Thanks for the review of the new product. I just used your link to order one for my toolkit.
Thank you!! 🙏🏾
I really enjoyed your video. Your dog took the show!
Hahahaha they are such sweethearts too! They deserve some screen time!!
Hell yeah! I am thinking about checking out this VM40.. The VM20 is still my "in studio" shotgun mic.
The VM30 I have is still solid. When they reached out, I was like “oh….ok” haha

I love the VM20! I see that and the Vimo C3. They just work and have been super reliable.
Legend was having sweet dreams with the snoring lol 🐶 sounds like a human snoring lol

Exactly, you use pencil mikes for indoors.
I just wrapped a shoot with this indoors and had zero problems.

@@CoZChristopher Thanks so much man! I don't know how I missed this part in the manual but just what I needed. Appreciated!
Not a snoring dog. lol
