This was my first ever match a week before my 9th birthday. I still have the red and white scarf I was given for the occasion. We still had a b&w television and bizarrely what struck me was the greeness of the pitch!
I remember going to Arsenal for that match. It all kicked off after the match by the coaches & as we made our way back to the motorway the coach got stoned & all our windows was smashed. It was freezing coming back to Walsall.
I was there and still remember this day shame we did not take the half chances to make a closer match. No team changes in those days all the Arsenal stars on show but the 1933 result of the Saddlers victory that day is still one of the Best FA Cup shocks of all time if not the BIGGEST. Up The Saddlers..
A very good Arsenal team but perhaps one or weaknesses that prevented them from achieving greatness- why persist with Young, Price and Gatting?.. They should have bought big to establish a legacy like Liverpool did... Arsenal too tight financially..
Arsenal était une équipe de coupe. Ils ne tenaient pas la distance pour un championnat. Ils avaient tout de même une bonne équipe (victoire à Turin en 1980).
Good example of the days when first division players moved down the divisions. Mick Bates, playing for Walsall a year after playing in the European Cup for Leeds. A good Saddlers team, but nerves seemed to get the better of them on the day, overrunning the ball in good positions. Arsenal adapting to the conditions much better.

We made up for it in the league cup in 1983-84 season when we won at Arsenal 2v1 .
I was a young lad of 20 years of age at this game, it broke my heart being a black country lad and us getting a good hidding but that's life.
on the way to wembley
Est-ce Kearns,le gardien irlandais qui avait joué contre la France ?
