I was in the North Bank. Dire dire dire Arsenal performance. Pat Jennings was still the best Arsenal player. I think he played for Spurs in FA cup final in 1967.
How galling it must have been for Arsenal to be humiliated by Walsall AGAIN...fifty years after the most famous FA Cup upset in history at Fellows Park in 1933.
Good job Arsenal had Pat Jennings in goal as a true score would have been close to double figures. Of the best 12 players on the pitch Walsall had 11 of them Up The Saddlers.
No, he survived two more games before Peter Hill-Wood finally swung the axe. TBF, the point of no return for Terry Neill wasn't this game against Walsall or the club's slide towards the relegation zone during the Autumn, it was a pair of First Division defeats at Highbury on the 6th and 10th of September, against the best 2 teams in the land - Man Utd and Liverpool - thus failing the acid test infront of the Arsenal fans, combined with several seasons of failing to even challenge Man Utd and Liverpool for honours, crap transfer policy, and playing boring football.
Walsall weren't the better side. Arsenal allowed them to play and had no posession, so looked a team without a clue. So many signings and a disgrace to the successive ones before!
Rubbish. I'm a Gooner who was at that match sitting in the West Stand next to two Wallsall supporters on the verge of jizzing themselves. Walsall easily deserved it. Arsenal were so bad even Kenny Sansom had a nightmare. Craig Shakespeare (yes, that one) ran Arsenal's right hand side ragged all evening.
I'd just turned 13 when this happened, me old man took me as a birthday gift. probably 1 of my best gifts ever, Thanks Dad RIP UTS

Applauded by the gunners fans on way out...my old man was in tears..r.i.p. dad

I thoroughly enjoyed watching that...
I was there. Super Saddlers.
If we draw Walsall again in a cup competition in 2033 I'm going out for the day!!
Was at this on. Still a bit painful to watch again. Thanks for the memories.
Wish Walsall had this kit now
This was the first season teams could wear sponsors names on their shirts for televised games.1983/84.
went that game, walsall deserved it on the night also v the mighty arsenal! we lost to west brom at home on the sat which was terry neils end!
This match cost Terry Neil his job
Yeah, the back-pass rule wasn't introduced until 1992
Was this Terry Neil’s last game as manager?

I was at this game
I forgot how shite Chris Whyte was. Appalling player
1933 was even worse apparently 😛
But for Pat Jennings who was fantastic Walsall could have won by more
kenny sansom NEEDED a drink after this game !
David o'leary right back! Mick kearns only lives down road from me
Arsenal did at least beat walsall in the FA CUP in 1978 4-1 at Highbury sandwiched in between the two giant killings
exelente!
Oh dearie me...

In other words, they were complacent, thinking they only had to turn up to win a third division club...
Charlie Magri was a name mentioned in my house many times growing up.
My Dad was involved in the boxing scene in Glasgow years ago. Late 70s/80s....
His brother Tommy managed Walsall many years ago also

This could be Arsenal 2021
