I’m a bit older… but I remember my wife telling me, “isn’t that a kids show?” And then changing that to “wow… this is not a kids show”. Great breakdown of the series. Thank you
i really love how they made Mr. Freeze a sort of vindictive zombie in his debut. he wanted to bring Batman to him so that he could enact his revenge, and chose to steal diamonds not because of the value, but to prove how he is now powerful enough to do it with ease. it's Batman he wants, and he doesn't want him alive.
I love the Ethan Bennett/Clayface storyline, that was so heart breaking seeing his turn to villainy but so rewarding to see his redemption. I really enjoyed Detective Yin. I'm sorry they didn't stick around in the latter seasons.
"How'd you do that?" "I'm the BATMAN" That's exactly what caught my interest in the show. The first episode is 1 of my favorite episodes even though it took a season or 2 to introduce commissioner Gordon
I love the animesque artstyle of this show. And i love some of the character designs. And fun fact: Most of the people who worked on The Batman also worked on Spectacular Spider-Man It's a shame that it continues to live in the shadow of Batman The Animated Series and Batman Beyond.
I FREAKING LOVED this show, I first saw it on Netflix and discovered it came out in my birth year. This is basically the definitive animated series for me
I decided to rewatch this and the show in the spirit of celebrating The Batman (22), and I gotta say it’s just as great as I remember. Kevin Michael Richardson as Joker is not a casting choice that should have worked, but astonishingly, he makes a great Joker! The plot line involving him and Clayface is my favorite part of the show. Incidentally, he also has one of my favorite Joker jokes. “A doctor called his patient and said ‘I’ve got your results, and I’ve got bad news and worse news. The bad news is you only have twenty-four hours to live.’ ‘Oh no,’ the patient replied. ‘That’s horrible! How can it possibly get any worse?’ ‘Well that’s just the thing! I’ve been trying to reach you since yesterday!’”
I actually adore all the later seasons, especially the episodes with Bruce learning to work with and care about Barbara and eventually Dick. What I loved most was always the small moments like Batman commending Batgirl for getting Joker on the ropes, comforting her after Catwoman tricks her, smiling after Batgirl and Robin as they banter and swing off into the distance, or just the three of them relaxing at Wayne Manor on a more peaceful day.
I just discovered your channel and it turns out you too want this show to get more love. This show hands down has the best gadgets of any superhero cartoon, the most dynamic (not necessarily best, but damn every one is creatively crafted) fight choreography and the best looking Batmobile
I just looked it up and Oh My God, what a huge missed opportunity that we never got to see that design in the show. Really wish we could've seen what kinda villain he'd be in this iteration.
@@shadowstar8619 Blame DC for the Bat-embargo. They wanted him from the start, but couldn't because of Batman Begins. They tried again, but got vetoed because Crane appeared again in The Dark Knight, so the show ended up replacing him with Hugo Strange.
I loved this show as a kid. I'm currently re watching it and have almost finished it. You are right I love it because it is refreshing compared to the animated series, which I still love. Once again great video
If you didn't know, there was a recently released remastering of this series on blu ray. Recommended, if you're into physical media. Is a great show, really.
wow I did NOT know The Batman was the same animation team as Jackie Chan adventures, that makes a lot of sense! Thanks for covering this show, you're right that its great! And I loved the Penguin in this show, I like that they give him some physicality, and his trick umbrella is fantastic! Great Joker too
Man! Although I did grew up with the OG Batman show. At the time, I never really got in to it because of the art style. (But I do appreciate it now) When this came out, I just fell in love with the slick character designs. The story was great as well. I personally love the The Dark Knight returns inspired episodes.
I actually recommended this show to one of my cousins (he's not a comic reader but loves comic shows and movies). I own all 5 seasons on dvd also. Also, season 5 is on HBO Max now.
I remember watching this show and the movie as a kid, and I had a DVD of the first three episodes that I watched a lot. I had a hard time remembering it for a while, but now that I’ve rediscovered it, I love it!
12:16 he didn't know who mr freeze was in his debut appearance he didn't know who poison ivy was in her debut appearance he didn't know who scarecrow was in his debut appearance the list goes on
I like this show, but my favourite show that almost no one talks about is Beware The Batman. That one has great animation, a lot of detective work, sophisticated and connected storylines, villains going from Prof Pyg to Deathstroke (and Anarky is basically Joker), the best Alfred and The Outsiders.
I loved this show when it came out, it was so much fun and I loved the designs. Plus, I really liked the Ethan Bennett storyline because, like if Harvey Dent shows up in a Batman property, you know in the back your mind eventually, he’s gonna become Two-Face. With Ethan I didn’t know he was gonna become a famous villain, so when he became Clayface, it was way more of a gut punch, it was a really creative decision by the creators.
In order to distinguish itself from BTA they had to make sure it was completely different and they really did it. A radical departure for ev erything else with its own rules, look and voice cast no one was going to get them confused with each other. I like it.
I honestly have to give props to the dynamics with Robin and Batgirl. Especially those few treasured episodes that had them interact with each other and not just Batman.
This show literally gave me western anime vibes and the combat was mind blowing in its time. Heck, even now days. Of course it kinda slowed a bit after season 3.
when i was really young 3-6 yers old i watched reruns of the animated and other older superhero cartoons. but when i was 7 this show hit one year after the 2003 TMNT and both of these where staples of my childhood and i try to rewatch both shows whenever i can. and the opening for this is my favorite opening to a batman show ever.
If there’s ever a dc show I think should come back. It’s the Batman :) I love this cartoon and the universe it tried to make. I would love it if its first adventure brings back the cancelled the Batman vs. hush film
Weirdly I think my favorite interpretation of every character is in this show, but I didn’t like Cluemaster much. Other than that I love every interpretation in this show even Mr. Freeze
One weird thing to me was how much better season four was then the rest of the show. The show wasn't bad but most of the best episodes were all part of that season. All five of my top five The Batman episodes are part of season four. Strange new World, Seconds, Matter of Family, Rumors, Artifacts, all very good. The only weaker episode that season was Team Penguin.
Agreed on Penguin. He really got hit with the "comedic relief" stick. Though, that aside, he still had some good schemes, and i remember the associated Comics giving him a big bad penguin phoenix mech that was credibly scary.
I remember when this came out when I was a kid. I was 12 when this came out, and I remember seeing it and thinking that it was really cool with an awesome opener every time it came on. "THE BAAATMAAAAAN"
12:6 he never met poison ivy or bane or killer croc or the mad hatter or scarecrow or catwoman or mr freeze or manbat or clayface the list goes on the only ones he knew prior to the series were the joker harley quinn and rupert thorne
This is such a great show. I remember watching it as a kid but re-watching it again as an adult… It’s still fire!! The theme song for the first couple of seasons is also top 10 cartoon theme songs of all time in my opinion.
BTAS is art deco inspired while TBM is clearly more anime inspired but in the best way. Jeff Matsuda is one of my biggest influences and learning he was the main designer for this just made me love it even more. And the Joker? His design is one walking pile of references. His hair is shaped like a jester cap, his fighting style was based on capoeira while a lot of his mannerisms bring to mind a humanized hyena. It was just a fun iteration of the dude.
Top 3 Jokers of all time and Top 3 Batman of all time Rino Romano really brought some of his Spider Man performance and blended it in with this version of Bruce Wayne. I love how nuanced and 3dimensional this Bruce is. He is hopeful yet paranoid at the same time. I love how this Batman throws out Quips all the time and Alfred is GOATED in this show. Best version of Alfred of all time
The character designs in this show were amazing. Joker I'm mixed about, but everything else was awesome and I loved the different takes. Bane looked so menacing. Mr. Freeze looked awesome. Firefly looked sick. I could go on and on.
This was the Batman show I grew up with as a kid. I love the first 2 seasons and I love the art. This Joker is one of my absolute favorites. The only criticism I'd give the art of this show is how the city is really empty and background characters in shots are usually obvious still frames with no life or motion, you'll notice this if you watch it on blu ray on a 4k tv.
The show won six daytime Emmy’s. Yea this was a really good, they took a younger approach. I think this is the third best Batman series. Behind Batman the animated series and Batman beyond
Great video man. I was a teen when this came out and I absolutely loved it. Great video, watching this made me want to go back and watch it all over again. I'm excited to see more of your work, fingers crossed for a successful future.
At first I really couldn't stand this style of joker because he's so far removed from the dandy stylish mafia styled one I was used to. But then they've found their footing and he was really really fun. The things he does and how he does them really worked for his character like pretending to be Batman and charging for services, annoying the heck out of other villains, or hosting a reality tv show with unwilling participants.

Same here. I'm 24 and was born in 99. I'm a mid 2000s/ early 2010s kid (2004-2011) and this show came out at a perfect time when my childhood starts when I was 5.
I strongly feel, this (THE BATMAN) cartoon show, deserves to get rebooted. When it was on I fully enjoyed watching it, and I thought it was great. I also like the different, forms of the villains in it, and I liked the two different types of ClayFace in it. In addition I liked lady detective Ms.Yin, but I didn’t like how she just suddenly disappeared.
I used to collect the toys, stickers for this show, used to watch it all the time it was on TV plus reruns. It was my favourite and still is my favourite Batman TV show. Plus the Batman Vs Dracula movie was awesome!!
This was my "Batman the animated series" next to the 90s series with Kevin Conroy (rip my friend and inspiration) I loved the look for the characters in this show I loved Robins look and Mr. Freeze!
My favorite episode was in season 5 (I believe) when Penguin got Hal Jordans ring. It was funny what constructs he chose. But that fan service, and my opinion iconic image of Batman wearing the ring flying up in the air with his cape spread in front of the moon was one of the only times watching non sports I yelled out a "Hell f@$#ing yeah!"
I don't know if you figured it out yet, but I think the second half of season 1 (I'm pretty sure all seasons are 13 episodes) is supposed to be the actual season 2. Idk why it's like that and wish they would fix it.
One of my favorite versions of Mr. Freeze voice by a GOAT Clancy Brown People that say they don't like him are just being pretentious and wana be different real bad. 04 Freeze is probably my favorite version of the character
Bro I remember watching this series and going uh wait they'res another batman but anyways it was this batman show and batman beyond I saw the Batman vs Dracula first and jeez what an introduction to a series
This is how I was first introduced to batman, I can't remember when I first started watching it I was too young to remember. I also don't know how I was able to watch it, I was born 2008 I don't know if this was on television in the 2010s
I caught reruns of batman the animated series, but this was my first true exposure to the character. Probably not only one of the best iterations of batman, but batgirl. because I was still a kid I didn't immediately relate with the character. I would root for batgirl to save the day. I really got into the show at the point of the batman vs dracula movie though. and the clay face character on this show was really well done and good. I loved that Jackie Chan animated series. No wonder this show turned out so well. If it was made by the same people. The saturday morning cartoons on the WB were really good. I watched those every week. Xio Lin Showdown. It's where I watched yugioh. It aired on the saturday morning cartoon block with the other shows. 4kidz version though, it took out the guns.
The problem with this show really was 1) to appear so close the Timmverse shows, everybody waited the classic noir 1940-50s batman, and so this modern batman in modern days with a lot of references to the 60s show but badass... was confusing. Expectatives didn't help to aceppt the new designs. 2) the problem with villains from the movies at time (scarecrow, two-face, ra's al ghul) that forbid they to appear, at same time making its own problems forbiding villains to appear in Timmverse Justice League Unlimited.
I'll admit that when this show first came out I tried to hate it. But I kept watching it each week and I couldn't stop myself from liking it more and more
Honestly this is my favorite batman animation. As far as the max not having all 5 seasons is weird. They unfortunately combined seasons 1 and 2 into a season
i grew up playing the batman (obviously 2004) flash game and penguin was the main villain and now only the batman 2004s penguin is the only penguin i know and like
Deffo my favorite Batman show. This is kinda in line with the 2004 Batman topic But I trying to figure out how to introduce a few characters into a Batman story that I have been thinking about. First character would be introducing Tim Drake. I have an idea for how Tim could be introduced as the Next Robin. But what I’m really tryna do is find a way to fit my own Batman son who was originally suppose to be son of Batman and Catwoman, but I think it'd make more sense for someone like Vicky Vale to be the mom of Batman's Bio son. Ben Wayne.
I know why I didn't like this tv show growing, I don't if it was the animation style and coloring and design of character looks on top of the voice acting, but now that I'm older I've come to appreciate it. Also always thought bane was like some ben10 character cause he was red and looked like an alien
yes I loved this batman show from during a while ago & is still really historic to me & other batman shows before this 1 premiered I really loved watching this & this batman show premiered during 3rd anniversary of "attacks of september 11" & is about to be 23rd anniversary of "attacks of september 11" nice & great
YO THIS IS MY FAVORITE BATMAN ANIMATED TT^TT MY CHILDHOOD! I remember playing its online game too, as well as gushing over Dick's design here which is smooth and slick. GAWD, it is underrated OTL
My favorite designs besides Batman himself have to be Catwoman and Riddler. This version of Catwoman looks kinda like me so yeah, subjectivity, and the Riddler looks like Marylin Manson 😂
This was my ''Batman The Animated Series'' and I'll always have a place in my heart reserved for it.

Batman Beyond definitely deserves a video. Dope series
The batman trivia: the intro is performed by U2
i really love how they made Mr.

This show and batman the brave and the bold are my childhood
Forgot about brave and the bold. Used to love that one too. It was a little more light hearted but was still really good
This was my "Batman the animated series" next to the 90s series with Kevin Conroy (rip my friend and inspiration) I loved the look for the characters in this show I loved Robins look and Mr. Freeze!
Iwish hey had done the scarecrow in this style. he would have been SCARY SCARY
This is my Batman
My favorite episode was in season 5 (I believe) when Penguin got Hal Jordans ring. It was funny what constructs he chose. But that fan service, and my opinion iconic image of Batman wearing the ring flying up in the air with his cape spread in front of the moon was one of the only times watching non sports I yelled out a "Hell f@$#ing yeah!"
I don't know if you figured it out yet, but I think the second half of season 1 (I'm pretty sure all seasons are 13 episodes) is supposed to be the actual season 2. Idk why it's like that and wish they would fix it.
Yeah it messes up a lot of older shows like that . Did the same with Batman the animated series
I wish that The Batman 2004 continued for another Season,The show had so many interesting Ideas.
One of my favorite versions of Mr. Freeze voice by a GOAT Clancy Brown
People that say they don't like him are just being pretentious and wana be different real bad.
04 Freeze is probably my favorite version of the character
I bought all 5 seasons on DVD. And to have Adam West and Frank Gorshin voice characters… I doesn’t get much better.
Bro I remember watching this series and going uh wait they'res another batman but anyways it was this batman show and batman beyond
I saw the Batman vs Dracula first and jeez what an introduction to a series
The theme song was one of my favorite pieces of music.
I remember the animation from What's New Scooby doo same animation for The Batman series I never seen Jackie Chan Adventures
Batman does not go from hopeful to dark and brooding in comics, it's the reverse. But this show does a good job of making that work.
The theme of this is so good, also really liked this Joker. Could actually get me to chuckle.
I look at TAS as the Golden Age version and The Batman the Silver Age since the change in the art similar to the transition in comics
This is how I was first introduced to batman,
I can't remember when I first started watching it I was too young to remember.
Really loved this show, it was my first Batman series.
I sometimes call this anime Batman because of how it has nuances from anime, particularly some of the action flow it does
The problem with this show really was 1) to appear so close the Timmverse shows, everybody waited the classic noir 1940-50s batman, and so this modern batman in modern days with a lot of references to the 60s show but badass... was confusing. Expectatives didn't help to aceppt the new designs. 2) the problem with villains from the movies at time (scarecrow, two-face, ra's al ghul) that forbid they to appear, at same time making its own problems forbiding villains to appear in Timmverse Justice League Unlimited.
I remember watching the episode with Mirror Master and The Flash on Kids WB when I was growing up.
Just found your channel, I love what you’re doing. Super underrated imo.
I appreciate that! Thanks for tuning in 🙌🏾
arent u gonna talk abt our 2nd VA voicing batman rino romano
Also always thought bane was like some ben10 character cause he was red and looked like an alien
yes I loved this batman show from during a while ago & is still really historic to me
& other batman shows before this 1 premiered
I really loved watching this
& this batman show premiered during 3rd anniversary of "attacks of september 11"
& is about to be 23rd anniversary of "attacks of september 11"
nice & great
YO THIS IS MY FAVORITE BATMAN ANIMATED TT^TT MY CHILDHOOD!
I remember playing its online game too, as well as gushing over Dick's design here which is smooth and slick.
GAWD, it is underrated OTL
The dracula special was so fire too
My favorite designs besides Batman himself have to be Catwoman and Riddler. This version of Catwoman looks kinda like me so yeah, subjectivity, and the Riddler looks like Marylin Manson 😂
