      Great choice!
In case someone was confused, there were indeed 2 Clayfaces in that show, Basil Karlo & Ethan Bennett (they even clashed in the epic episode _"Clayfaces"_ ).
I assume that OP's favorite is Bennett since he's the most prevalent in the show, but since I know many people (myself included ^^') who can't help but fall in love with the most random/obscure charas; I wouldn't even be surprised if Matsuda's Basil Karlo was someone's favorite iteration of "The Batman" Clayface.
... the issue with my favorite Clayface episode from "The Batman" is that it's an episode with a twist, so naming it would spoil the surprise... like, to make a comparison with a show that everyone has watched, it would be like saying that my favorite *Batman:TAS* Harvey Dent episode is _"Judgement Day"_ ^^'

There are things from this show, that I really dig, while some are just lazily done.
TAS wasn’t originally made for kids in mind. They were seriously trying to get an adult audience, or at least an older one, and I watched it throughout my teen years, and knew many adults who did as well.
It was on prime time television when it first came on, which was unheard of at the time.
Though The Batman has some dark themes and storylines, but it’s still made for kids, and they had a goal to sell toys.
That’s why season 1 had 26 episodes, which was cut to 13 in the next three. The only reason they didn’t cancel it, is because the final season is just all trying to setup a new Justice League show, or they were forced to add them, and it’s the lowlight of the show.

The episode when Joker gases Bats, then puts on a suit, snd acts like he’s going to be Batman from then on, was hilarious and had a creepy malicious thing to it, that was great.
Most don’t like this Joker, because he’s so much more physical. Yet, in some episodes, Batman knocks him out very easily, while in others they’re going back and forth, alas Joker is as much an acrobat as Dick Grayson.

That's what I like about 2004 Batman. When he said to Joker "I don't share your sense of humor", he doesn't means he's lacking it, this Batman just prefer throwing dry-wit humor every now and again. He can a bit of sass himself.
And 2004 Joker prolly my favorite non-standard, out-of-the-box character design that otherwise still true to its what it represent. Dreads that looks like Jester Cap? Creative! Straitjacket drip? Why anyone never thought of that before?

  • @Hi_Just_Fred

I always felt this show's clayface was a very interesting melding of concepts from other characters, Ethan felt like Gordon in his role as an officer of the law at first being unsure but slowly warming up to the vigilante Batman. He felt close to some takes on Harvey Dent, or other characters in the past, similarly depicted as a respected friend of Bruce. His origin story even felt reminiscent of both what Harvey and Gordon had gone through, torture at the hands of the Joker putting pressure on his psyche like Gordon but physically warped by harmful chemicals leading to his inner instability being damaged by his now altered outer appearance.
He of course is not either of these characters reskinned, and there could even be more traits identified about him that make him feel reminiscent of other characters.
But I genuinely feel that Ethan is such a strong welcome and fondly remembered part of the show thanks to how much it felt like the writers making him knew what to hone in on to make a character stand out while feeling like they fit into the mythos perfectly. On one hand I'm sad I don't ever really see this character more outside of his appearance in this show. But on the other he works so perfectly for this, and while he is Clayface I never felt an absence of the same spirit behind Two-Face thanks to his story. Again, not the same and we did of course get a more traditional but distinct take on Clayface later, but he certainly felt like he scratched a very similar itch when watching his story unfold.

I love The Batman 2004. The way I saw this show was more of a what if, and that what if was, what if the 'Batman 66 series was done in a more serious manner. The two have lots of similarities. The use of fantastic gadgets, the use of the Bat-Poles and having a stair case for Alfred to enter the Bat Cave, the fact that the villain's can all keep up with Batman in a fight, or at least hold their own to various degrees. The Batman 2004's Penguin has a speech very similar to Burgess Meredith's Penguin from the '66 series, even down to Batman's Cowl design in the fact that 66 Batman and 04 The Batman both have the short ear cowl that I personally like more. This was how I always saw the series and it helped make the enjoyment of the series even that much stronger for me. Plus personally I think this is the best Batman design simply because he looked like a demon. His cape always covered his body and the way he was animated moving around with said cape covering his whole body looked other worldly. Also the cape's frayed edges always spread across the ground instead of ending at his ankles like the BTAS designs of Batman. It just makes Batman seem more supernatural and just worked. A fantastic show that deserves more love.

This was such an awesome show. At first, i was a little iffy about the animation, but after only a few minutes, I was sold. I really liked it. His musculature and the fluidity of his movements were awesome. I liked his cowl, and his car was amazing. I totally agree with your take on his cape. I loved that it went all the way down and draped over him. Also, this might be a hot take, but i disagree with Vee here. I liked Bane 's look. And his voice. I really dug his design. Transforming into a hulking monster really displayed just how dangerous he was to Batman.
I miss this show, and i really wish that the next Batman animated series, would take notes from this show.

Like he smiles in this series quite a lot as Bruce Wayne AND Batman, and this is a very warm smile that we see, I noticed it especially when Dick got into picture in season 4. And Alfred seems to have much more impact as well, especially with the references to his co-parenting Bruce with Lucius Fox. If we ignore the Artefacts episode I would say this Bruce Wayne could lead and leads a really happy life in and outside the costume, and I appreciate that we have this version😊

Alfred looking similar to Alfred from the DCAU isn't really quite true because both are just supposed to be Alfred from the comics. Man-Bat doesn't look similar almost at all aside from the general design which is just comic book Man-Bat. As for Batman it's not that the character design was based on the BTAS design, rather that both the BTAS design and The Batman design are based on the design by Neil Adams and Dennis O'Neil.

YAY! I'm so happy that this show is getting more love. I absolutely love this show since I grew up with it. Funny fact, I was so used to this rendition of the Joker that whenever I'd see the original styles of the Joker, I was confused 😂

The show was definitely focusing more on action and on Batman's use of gadgets and his general fighting skills to resolve the conflict. Therefore it was necessary for all the villains (even those typically not action orientated) to be able to hold their own in a fight with the Caped Crusader. So I consider the more acrobatic Joker and Penguin to be perfectly fine, for this show.
They do later add some villains with less of a physical presence in Hugo Strange (and to a degree the Riddler) to allow for more psychological duels.
Honestly always loved this show. So pleased to see it getting more and more love.

A visual detail I always found neat was the Scarface puppet. TAS Batman had the original 30s mobster flick look and The Batman’s one had the more recent 80s aesthetic with Pacino in it.

0:51 In regards to Scarecrow he was initially meant to feature in one of the episodes of Season 4, but the Bat-embargo being a thing he was replaced with Hugo Strange. There's concept art at the very least, but it's a bummer he never got to be in the show.

The Batman is the most criminally underrated series in the The lore of the character I like that this version of Batman is not grumpy and dark but he's more relaxed and laid-back and not afraid to work with others but we get to see this younger Batman go to become the Batman we know a truly understands to become the symbol of Hope

I’ve watched and I do own all the seasons. I enjoy this interpretation and think you should continue with the series. When batgirl is introduced it’s pretty fun as her and Ivy start out as friends. When we finally get Gordon, it’s a nice surprise when it happens. And you get plenty of fun voice “cameos” as it goes on especially when we meet Dicks parents.
I’d love to see some videos of you discussing the rest of the serious. Producing different stories from what we normally have seen or know is what I definitely appreciate about the show overall.
Thanks for the hard work 🤘🏽

Which lead to the BBC going through its backlogs and bring out a bunch of old shows from the 60s like Batfink.
