In my opinion, this is one of Michael Landon's most brilliant performances! They were really believable as two different people who favored each other!
Joe conveys so much with body language and facial expressions - tough, scared, strong, courageous, never back down and look 'em in the eye. Great episode.
They pretty much relied on the mustache and makeup to make him seem different. His acting was pretty weak in that regard. Every time he spoke there were glaring traits of Little Joes mannerisms that came through.
Bonanza holds a very soft and special place in my heart folks, the acting from all of the cast members was 1st class, And, it was so very believable and real, which made me feel like, I REALLY WAS ON THE PONDEROSA!!!, AND!!, I ALWAYS keep my posts extremely Respectful. Thank you
The way they made Joe look as the bad guy was the best I’ve ever seen. He looked a little different then Joe but not in an obvious way. That combined with Micheals performance made him actually seem like a different person. Next to Paul Muni that is by far the best I’ve seen where an actor becomes a different person. And all in all the episode is excellent.
A splendid dual performance by Michael Landon - he made the double into a whole other kind of person, showing his great acting ability! A tense show, punctuated with timely comedy. Keenan Wynn terrific as always. Thanks once again, Grjngo!
So true. He was a great actor. I used to love this show back then. Gone are the days that are no more. Miss the old values too. The world got a lot uglier and more crass.

It’s great to see a relatively young Keenan Winn! I’m in my 70’s and he was one fine actor from tv and movies:) This one was suspenseful. And that sleep deprived soldier added comedic fun. Good balance.
I remember watching this episode when I was 12. Am now 71. Little Joe is left handed and the crook right handed. Thank you U Tube for these Bonanza Episodes from long ago. And it’s good to see Pernell Roberts in them too.
Michael Landon aka Little Joe Cartwright plays the role pretty well & deserves a Oscar for good acting. I keep wondering what Adam, Hoss & his Pa Benjamin Cartwright would say to him, about falling asleep in the desert 🏜️ & not keeping his guard up?"
I used to watch bonanza with my grandparents. They were closer to me than my parents were. I never saw every episode but most of them. This show will always have a special place in my heart. I'm so happy to have found it on here .
A.R.: A number of western shows were special to me because of the moral lessons taught. I appreciate it more as an adult than I did as a child, but it was good to have the lessons the parents or school taught re morals reinforced. So Bonanza, The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, etc. were all good in that respect. (Those were the ones I favored --- others may have done the same thing).
I never tire of the Cartwrights’ unshakable bond. Each carried their own unique qualities in each episode! I did miss Adam for sure! Thank you for sharing these morally sound episodes!🏆
I been watching Bonanza from a little boy 👦 about 8 years old in the 1960s, and now I am a senior citizen. I useto watched it every Friday night 🌙, it hardly missed me and. All now I still watched it everyday if am home 🏡, it is a very nice movie 🎥.
Keenan Wynn. His father was comedian Ed Wynn. Keenan generally played dramatic parts, but is known to Disney audiences as greedy business tycoon Alonzo Hawk from The Absent-Minded Professor and Herbie Rides Again. Ed Wynn was a vaudeville comic and early TV variety show host who proved his dramatic acting chops in the original TV production of Requiem For A Heavyweight co-starring Keenan. Jack Palance played a boxer whose career was ending. Keenan was his manager, Ed played his cut man. Last time I checked it was here in RUclips.
los primeros capítulos tenía otra ropa, que yo recuerde lo vi con unos pantalones marrón camisa blanca y chaleco y cazadora era azul luego le cambiaron el vestuario y lo dejaron hasta el final
I grew up watching Bonanza on Sunday evenings at 9pm on NBC, channel 4 in Southern California. We lived in the west San Fernando Valley near Chatsworth reservior and Santa Susanna Pass/Iverson Ranch where many episode or parts of episodes were filmed. I was just a kid at the time, so I learned this later. Now I live just a few miles from Vasquez Rocks where this episode was filmed. Many other shows filmed at VR are: Wild Wild West, Rifleman, and Star Trek. I feel fortunate to have lived near these popular film locations, and have visited many times. Bonanza was one of the best shows on TV, in my opinion. There was always an important lesson to be learned written in to the story lines, and it was neat to see how good prevailed in the end. The Cartwrights, although not perfect, were good people, and disliked by some, but there was usually a good ending, like on this episode. It was one of the only shows that portrayed Christians in a positive light, just like Little House on the Prairie did as well. Thank you Michael Landon.
I love Bonanza, have for 50 years, but it is astonishing how they never rest their horses - no matter how far they have come, straight out again, no water and no rest. Every episode. As though the horses were machines. Also, no matter who it is, other people’s clothes always fit like a glove.
Also, it supposedly 20 miles from the ranch to town and it never seems to take but maybe an hour. There is NO horse that can go 20 miles an hour, for 20 miles!
@@linsqopiring6816 Probably the fastest speed recorded was a Thoroughbred race horse at 55 mph. For only about a mile (or 2; however long a race is). That's carrying a VERY light racing saddle and very small jockey. An average domestic horse will run at a considerably slower speed, especially carrying a western saddle and rider with all their gear. And they could maintain that for maybe 5 miles tops before muscle fatigue sets in and potential damage to the horse.
Los Cartwright eran personas muy bondadosas con todo el mundo,y caritativas, cuánto me gustan está familia y está serie, como ninguna otra, que lastima que todos se fueron,y no puedan. Seguir filmando.

The thing with Peters was hilarious. "What?! Call yourself a soldier? You're a disgrace to that uniform!" I laughed so hard when he was asleep on that horse and then when he collapsed at the end. Bonanza often does that, puts a comedy bit into a really serious episode.

I was surprised that the Sargeant didn't notice that right away. I noticed that too. I think that was an error in the script writing.
Joe being left handed would not help the Sergeant to know the captain was lying. The captain already said that they are two different people.
