I love how this episode really highlighted Ben's patient wisdom, he wasn't someone to fall for some "get rich quick" scheme. His sons might've still fallen for this swindle, but Ben has the wisdom that comes with age and experience. He's always been a hard worker, but even hard workers can get swindled, which is why I've always valued my parents' advice. Some wisdom really only comes with age and experience.

It's amazing that men's suits have not changed since the 1860s, aside from the ribbon bows being replaced by ties, and losing the bowler hats. I have a couple of suits exactly like James Bronson's that I wore on a daily basis when I was a bank branch manager.

@Bethany Campione. The Cartwrights did have a lot of friends in Virginia City. The only reason why the Cartwrights's friends turned on them is because they weren't thinking clearly. They weren't thinking clearly because the money to feed their families and to make a living. They were brainwashed by the swindlers just like a lot of Americans today are brainwashed by the CCP controlled lying Communist Marxist news media. The people in Virginia City were desperate. It was a recession!

@@thomasn3882 That's not true. Most of the people in Virginia City were friends of the Cartwrights. The city was in a recession which caused them to be desperate and not think clearly. 28:35 That was a strange scene. They went in to find evidence. He appeared to find slated rocks but acted as if he was in on the scam, but then he said "I'll tell you in the morning" Why didn't he say right then that the loose rock didn't come from the wall. That there's not enough discarded rock around (or whatever) .31:00 They hit the rock that you're hiding behind, so you stand up?!

Several things really bugged me about the Bonanza series. One of them as in the Bonanza series movie, The Jury, was that the entire town was against a person who was being changed as a killer. However, there was no proof, and usually Hoss is the one that wants to hold out until he is proven guilty by a real trial. So what bugs me, is that when the person who they have been so eager to hang is proved innocent, they don’t extend the film and we would have the satisfaction of seeing the people that were accusing, that they were wrong.

Hoss's mother was Swedish and she had a very thick Swedish accent. I don't remember the backgrounds of the other 2, but I do know that they weren't Swedish.

40:21 Why not remove the ladder? :D :D :D How is he going to survey underground without any tools? The episode started out interesting but then got silly. They bought one mine and the neighboring one had given up. If they kept quiet then they could have bought it too. But that wouldn't make a good show. How would you write it to be more plausible yet entertaining?
It could be a mystery episode where they're scheming to buy the neighboring mine while tying to not let anyone know that they found silver. Because the other mine won't sell, they need to make fake maps and kill the two surveyors in convenient accidents, not shooting them. They're quietly mining the silver and secretly carting it away. (ya, implausible too). They hire miners who are told to be quiet but one recognizes that they have crossed the boundary. Simplest would be to say that "steel markers were pounded in here to mark the boundary. They're gone now, but those holes are definitely where they were. ...
The idea that they could publicly pump up their stock, mine the ore, and get away before anyone discovers it... that's out there.

I know. I've binged watched up until this 2 season and this show and the prices they mention on things are usually way higher then today's prices. For example, when a woman in another Bonanza episode went to her lot to work a mining lot she had purchased. After the miners found out how good she cooked. So, instead of mining she set up a tent with Adam as a partner and started cooking and serving food to the miners. At first her steak and eggs breakfast was $4.00 and then by the end of the show after changing the price 3 times she charged $15.00 for steak and eggs. These are NOT prices that reflect that time frame. It's happened on many of shows where I think.WOW that's EXPENSIVE.
