  • Bonanza - Episode 93 - The Gamble - Little Joe is his family's only hope when he escapes from a kangaroo court that has framed the Cartwrights for a bank robbery and sentenced them all to hang.
    The Gamble
    Director: William Witney
Writers: Frank Cleaver (teleplay), Michael Landon (teleplay) | 1 more credit »
Stars: Dan Blocker, Michael Landon, Lorne Greene
    Genre: Western
    Country: USA
    Language: English
Release Date: 1 April 1962 USA
Filming Locations: Paramount Studios - 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA
    Storyline:
While on a cattle drive, the Cartwright men make a stopover in the town of Alkali. The next morning, the Cartwrights are tossed into the local jail, accused of robbing the town's bank and killing several innocent bystanders. Escaping from his cell, Joe Cartwright tries to summon help before his father Ben and his brothers Adam and Hoss are summarily hanged. Featured in the cast are two of Hollywood's most reliable tough guys, Charles McGraw as Sheriff Gains and Ben Johnson as Stan. Written on rottentomatoes.com
    Reviews:
"All four Cartwrights find themselves in a real jackpot in a small town where Charles McGraw and his deputy Ben Johnson are the law. The bank is held up and a teller killed and the money the Cartwrights are carrying from a cattle sale is thoought to be the bank loot.
They geta quick trial and a hanfinf sentence, but Michael Landon escapes.
Upon Little Joe's shoulders is the fate of the Cartwright family. That this is an inside job is obvious, but can it be proved?
Nic stry with good guest star turns. Little Joe comes back with a lot of help." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

Dan Blocker was actually very intelligent. Almost every episode Dan Blocker played on, there was always a poke at his size and jokes about his eating habits. Over the 14 + years of the series. 2nd longest running western 2nd to Gun Smoke and the 1st in Color… he was an amazing actor and my hero.

They have a zillion people in their community, friends, cow hands and people they've helped throughout the years and whenever they get into big trouble they never call on any of them for help. Well, here it is. The episode where this finally happened! It was oddly satisfying to see.
