So many in poverty. The story goes. Ben Cartwright was a proud humble man. Who never took from anyone, worked for his dream and helped everyone in his path, while raising 3 sons to do the same. Well educated and so were his sons. The show was a fine example of morals and values and work ethic

Hoss has always been my favorite. If this series were real, and if I could visit the Ponderosa, Hoss is the son I would've fallen in love with and hopefully married. He's like me, bringing home stray animals to help. I like Little Joe, but Hoss is my absolute favorite. ❤️
I'm not sure why so many people like Adam most? He's third to me.

Yeah, that's one of the great lines of all time...Hoss's delivery was perfect...he had a way about him....I noticed the same thing when Joe put down a saloon girl, and Ben stuck up for her by saying 'I thought she was very nice.' He asked Hoss for his opinion, and Hoss instantly just repeated what Ben had said! ' I thought she was very nice'. It was so clear that he sensed Ben being irritated at Joe's attitude towards the girl, and Hoss wanted to remove himself from the line of fire...Hoss was priceless....As with all actors who are good at playing characters who can be a bit slow or naive, Blocker had to have been brilliant to pull off some of these lines the way he did...

3:02 Leif Erickson gets episode credit. Most Bonanza episodes don't credit guest cast at the introduction. 8:02 that mat painting of semi desert land in the dinner room window doesn't fit the Tahoe lake pine forest that the Panderosa home is in. Plus Ben casts a slight shadow on it. I believe shutters were on the exterior of windows. Oh, that coffee pot is sure pretty. Interesting show...

It's a good quesiton and one I've pondered too. And they did have several ranch hands because in some episodes it shows their bunk house and what it's like to live there. From a writing perspective it makes the show more suspenseful since if they unleashed a posse of ranch hands every time there was trouble it would be too easy. There is really no in story answer for it though, just a plot hole.

13:49 How are you "being mighty careful" by all going into a potential box canyon together? During the opening, I thought that "the rescue" was going to be rescuing Ben, now I expect Ben to rescue the sons, proving that he's not too old. 15:30 Adam: "In & out slick & clean" by looking only at the top. Trapper John MD would be disgusted by that nonsense! :D 16:07 Then they gather together. Not the best strategic move. :D OK. "at least we did one thing." was funny. :D 34:40 Ben, Why are you letting the other shooter know that you are there?! Just pick him off like the other guy. 34:51 Say Whaat?! Ben's going to join his pinned down boys?! That's the most ridiculous thing that I've ever seen. Well, actually kinda common. Shows how little writers think of the audience's intelligence. OK. Made for a humorous heartwarming ending. I'll forgive the writers. :D
Earlier, I had wished that the old man hadn't mentioned 40 head of cattle because then when he met Ben on the trail he could have joined Ben to help him rescue his boys rather than being the rustler. The son bringing the hide to the house to eat before he buried it also didn't make any sense. Could have made sense if the boy said "I want to tan this one. It's a beauty!" and then the father said "Oh no you don't!
