  • Free Western Series: Bonanza - Episode 133 - The Boss - Ben confronts a former friend who has become a local strongman after monopolizing the freight business.
    The Boss
    Director: Arthur H. Nadel
Writers: Leo Gordon, Paul Leslie Peil
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
    Genre: Western
    Country: USA
    Language: English
Release Date: 19 May 1963 USA
Filming Locations: Stage 17, Paramount Studios - 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA
    Storyline:
""Boss" Tom Slayden has monopolized the freight business and has been intimidating anyone who opposes him. One of Slayden's men shoots Little Joe in the shoulder when he finds Joe hauling a wagon-load of supplies. Ben signs a warrant for Slayden's arrest. When Slayden is arrested, and he shuts down the freight business. Viriginia City's businesses quickly close, and a jury acquits Slayden to save the town's businesses. The Cartwrights, some of the townsfolk, and even Slayden's daughter, Karen, oppose the "Boss."" Written by Charles Delacroix on IMDb.com
    Reviews:
"Virginia City is growing and freighter Carroll O'Connor decides some big city type methods are needed. He has visions of being a big city boss and controlling Virginia City's supplies will gain him the recognition. But when one of his gunmen shoots Michael Landon when he was hauling supplies for the Ponderosa that puts him at war with the Cartwrights.
Carroll O'Connor does a fine job as the would be boss of Virginia City. Ironically today Virginia City survives with a nominal population on the tourist trade. Who knows what might have happened had they a town boss. In real life the town was built high in the Sierras for access to the fabled Comstock Lode. When it dried up so did Virginia City." I just watched a movie a couple of times back with the same sheriff, Denver Pyle. It was the one where they were holding Hoss in jal for murder and they were going to hang him. He told the sheriff if he would send a telegraph to his pa that it would prove who he was. However, the sheriff walked past the Telegraph office three or four times without sending a telegraph. I got so frustrated because the comments were turned off and I wanted my comments to be seen. So, thanks so much for being allowed to air my gripes. The, “Comments Turned Off” is one of my pet peeves. Totally useless. What I really wish that I had the nerve to do was just to not watch any movies with that,”Comments Turned Off” on it but I always want to see the movie.

I appreciate your views on "comments off". I believe we all have a fair say in a public forum and conversation. NOTE: When you see an advertisement that has comments turned off you can assume the company is hiding from shady business practices. For Example: MintMobile....I had to look onto GOOGLE to find the dissatisfied customers because even on Tiktok, they turn comments off.

Most people recall Carroll O'Connor as "Archie Bunker" but he was a great actor in many roles, I liked him in in the heat of the night.

There were lots of ranch hands and a foreman, and a bunkhouse attached to the ranch house, but they were rarely featured in the episodes.

For me it is very useful to see and listen to the series in original version, so I keep the English language and improved it. Since because of my age I can no longer travel abroad.

Not much different then as in now, cowards who fend for themselves to appease their masters. Not many with the spine like a Cartwright who stand for truth. But at least they redeemed themselves, in the the show I mean.
