    This video helped me a lot when I found the foam sheets on my footwell. After taking care of the door through the heat core, I was able to get to the second door through the frunk, but able to just peel the remaining foam of it. Was very hard to get to both sides of it, but used jumper cable to connect the battery and move that door to the two end positions, so had a better, even so being a very limited access to it. Could have stuck a few new foam strips to it, but would have been blindly and risky to stick the foam to the airway wall instead, so I've skipped adding new foam to the second door! Thank you for the great video! See you at some of the morning GTGs! Merry Christmas and all the best!!!!

    Cheers Yogi, have this exact problem on my 996 and had been wondering what the deal was. What's worse is when the foam starts to burn and smoke and you get to inhale it while driving.

      Wow, luckily I caught it because the Turbo still had a complete covering. Thanks for watching!!

      I assume it's foam that's melting against the heat exchanger, not sure, but with your video I'll tackle this soon and see the demons.
      Also, my wishes to your wife, I was sorry to hear that update. Cancer sucks.

    Thanks for the video. Very helpful! I'm thinking that the Porsche engineers originally covered the flaps with open cell foam so that there was a "blending" of the hot air (from the core) with fresh air. By sealing these holes in the flapper completely, you've eliminated this "blending". Not the end of the world, but I plan to perforate the foam I apply with several small holes to allow for this. Thanks again!

    • @YogisGarage
      @YogisGarage  3 месяца назад

      The original foam covered the holes completely and was not permeable. As to why there are holes? Weight/cost savings?

    I had this problem on my 986 Boxster. I just did the repair through the dash, not the front trunk. I might have missed one of the doors this way, but it was way easier and stopped the foam coming through the vents and made the heat and AC function better.

    • @YogisGarage
      @YogisGarage  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah you’ll miss one of the doors that directs the airflow. Not a big, big deal but while you’re in there you’re better off doing both. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    I have 2012 997.2. So I see you are doing the same temperature blend door two different ways. Great video by the way. I have been told there is the temperature blend door , which you did, and a central distribution door flap as well. I took my heater core out and while my foam looks like it about to let loose and doesn't appear that is has let loose so my "foam party" must be coming from the central distribution flap. Do you have any idea on how to do that door flap as well?

    • @YogisGarage
      @YogisGarage  2 месяца назад

      Thanks for reaching out. I only know of two doors that need to be addressed. The one behind the heater core and then the one behind the radio. Use caution when you reinstall the doors as any snags from the foil or foam could cause it to not close or open right. In other words you'll feel heat from the footwell. Good luck!

    • @YogisGarage
      @YogisGarage  Месяц назад

      It's a chore but worth it. As far as the ECU, no I haven't although it does sound like a good idea as opposed to under the convertible top. The wiring sounds like a nightmare though.

  • @tomburns890

    Wow what a job. My 997.1 turbo has blown that black sticky foam stuff out the vents over time but my heater still blows hot and my A/C still blows ice cold. Why does it still work if foam has been blown out. Hopefully I don’t have to replace this foam thing? Thx and hope you and your wife are doing better. Love the terracotta I had the same on my 996 turbo

    • @YogisGarage
      @YogisGarage  Год назад +1

      It’s Boxster Red actually but thanks! There are two doors. One for directional control (vent up or vent floor) and the other is a blend door for mixing the air together to temp. The foam is on both sides of the door so it’s possible that one side is still intact. Either way, it’s only a matter of time. Good luck!

  • @jimf5160

    This is a Porsche 911, not a Lada Niva. Why didn't you just take the HVAC out on the table and fix it? there are three flaps in HVAC. I'm not a mechanic and I did it without any problem. I no longer have the risk of eye injury from flying and sticky foam.

    • @YogisGarage
      @YogisGarage  11 месяцев назад +3

      Why would I do that? It would require pulling the entire dash! Too risky with unique red interior and brittle plastic. This method isn’t hard and works just as well.
