First of all, I would like to point out that all this scripts (which also appear in the domains and other quests with Dainsleif) may suggest that Khaenria'h is based on the Roman Empire. In fact, that would make a lot of sense since their language would be latin. What is more, in the We Will Be Reunited quest, Dainslief, after defeating the abyss mages, finds a talisman and begins to translate it. Then he tells the traveler that what is written in the talisman refers to the «Loom of fate». If we use the alphabet shown in the video to translate what's written in the talisman (the purple letters which surround the abyss mage), we find that it says «Fati textrix», which in latin means exactly «Loom of fate». That somehow implies that Dainsleif knows latin canonically. And the analogy is not that foolish; Rome (Khaenria'h), a technologically advanced nation, which had no god (well Romans actually had some gods but most of them where Greek imports and plus Rome was a way more pragmatic culture) also fell «because» of Christendom, or at least it was in Rome's weakest moments when it had to accept religion in order to survive, even if it didn't change its fate. Snezhnaya would be the eastern Roman Empire (since it's based on Russia and Moscow is also known as the «Third Rome» and Russia is an orthodox country, just as the Byzantine Empire was) which is trying to restore Rome's (or Khaenria'h's) ancient glory. However, I don't see how «caell ese un to umus» translates to «the dweller in heaven send the thorns». That would be «Caelo habitans spinas mittit». I've been studying latin for three years and I just don't understand how it translates to that. It's a pity because so far Hoyoverse was doing a good work using accurate Latin (for example, in the unreconciled starts event menu). Edit: Since so much people are asking me what «caell ese un to umus» means, it means absolutely nothing, at least written that way. Rearranged and corrected, «Caeles eunt dumus» means «They go towards the celestial [thing/place]», and then the «dumus» belongs to another clause. I translated the whole text correctly from Latin, which you can find scrolling down in my answer to another user.
I just remember that Abyss Order members are recruiting hilichurls in Enkanomiya and Dragonspine. Now that I think about it, Dainsleif never had a chance to visit Enkanomiya and maybe read Before Sun and Moon :(
@@charcoalmilk maybe thats could be a reason for him to join abyss, and became our last boss, cause we (traveler) in the final journey are in celestia's side..
i think in the end the abyss dainsleiff archons fatuis everyone will be against celestia....the before the sun and moon specifies that celestia came from another world and it has destroyed everyone including the primordial god who knows this truth so there's a good chance that we all will be united against celestia
Theres a book in enkanomiya (byakuyakoku collection) that revealed the primodial one "phanes" and how he created the world but the second throne came and declared war. So i think the second throne is the one that caused destruction. Ps. Im not sure lol
So… …beneath Monstadt is Khaenri’ah, whose remnants bear seemingly Scandinavian names. Beneath Inazuma is Enkanomiya, inhabited by shades with Hellenic names. And beneath Liyue is the Chasm, the structures of which mirror Enkanomiya and the former citizens of which has left messages inscribed in Latin. …Norse, Greek, and Roman… Did Mihoyo write the abyss as the representation of ancient cultures whose religions have been reduced to mythologies? And if so, what does that say about the currently existing nations of Teyvat? …also, I have no idea what that city above Dragonspine represents.
Sal Vindagnyr, thats the old civilization that settled in Dragonspine and was also destroyed by the 'celestial nail'. Seems to be based around norse myths too?
Somehow, that made me think of that arc in MARVEL’s Hercules graphic novel where Hercules and a bunch of other old gods fight a group of new gods who were trying to kill and replace them. And Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods.”
I saw these writings before and I was like "wow would it be cool if we knew what they meant" and the community doesn't disappoint! With the code cracked, is there a translation for the words that appear when abyss mages are idling? I've noticed they appear more often than before since the chasm update. Man, I can't wait for Khaenri'ah storyline. I feel like it won't just be an 8th region, but rather it will slowly start to interfere more and more with the main story.
Its crazy how Hoyo dev’s actually think a lot about the lore of this game..and I absolutely love it! The fact that we had to unite to decode the letter and now this.. I really love it, makes me feel proud of being a lore community member since they’ve must have noticed numerous theories by now! ❤️ also, another great video! 🙏🏻
This is exactly why I play Genshin Impact. Secrets and deep exceptional lore. Now that we have a better understanding of the Abyss alphabet, it will be easy to translate latin into english or other languages for people who learnt it :)
I remember the time when i was so *CONFUSED* of how it disappears when i walk right into it with my lumenstone adjuvant, then i notice it doesn't disappears anymore when i got my adjuvant lights out
Some people in the genshin discord did the translation for them but they all seem to end up as gibberish. This was done quite a while ago tho and I havent been keeping up with them since
I tried to translate it once a long time back, but that was using the older translation so all I got was gibberish. Never thought of putting it through Google translate.....
"The dweller of in heavens sends the thorns, for the way of the abyss is not to be" I think this means that celestia nuked the ancient civilization because they were a little too close to the abyss The other is probably them summoning abyss creatures to help or something
i think they sent the thorns because the Second who came doesn't want to let the other gods know that he is not the Primordial one because the Primodordial one likes helping people so the people would definitely recognize if he is or not the primordial one that's why all the ancient civilizations were all destroyed like the one in dragonspine... you can also see some pictures like someone helping the people I think the one helping them is primordial one the first who came.
Maybe they are referring to the hilichurls because in the story quest the hilichurls go to the chasm because they are dying and one of the message said “mourning to the dead” thats might be the reason for the flash back the traveler saw when he/she with dain and paimon the “the calling of the living” might refer to the hilichurls going inside chasm and “and the shadow” might referring to the curse and for the “to prevent of shedding tears” might referring to the action they made in the last part of the cut scene and also the one that been referred in the flash backs because on how painful it is when they are dying the curse get stronger so i don’t believe that this is the message for telling the traveler to joining the abyss its more like what they are feeling or thoughts about it
Thanks for your hard work Mr. Cat, Love you for your videos Even your predict for Sumeru was right. Xamaran mention it. "Ignorance might be blessing , Knowledge brings Calamity"
Thank you so so so much for compiling all this lore and making your RUclips videos!! I absolutely adore getting to know all of this lore information that isn’t directly within the Archon quests! Thank you again for all the hard work you do, it’s very very much appreciated!! ❤️☺️😊
Thank you for this tremendous work, and thanks to all redditors participating in this search for the Genshin lore. Story is progressing in Genshin, soon we might get some pretty wild revelations, maybe we're the Revelator like in Tree of Savior? Can't help but think there is also a connection with Honkai.
Watched your video yesterday before sleeping but forgot to leave a comment! Thank you for this video, it's really interesting! Also I''m grateful to all comments! Thanks to you all others can build new theories and open something new in previous quests!
I think the dweller in the first message more likely refers to Asmoday, since the "Heavens" already refers to Celestia ? And for 4:48, the "I" is either our sibling or the abyss queen. Either way, it's they have the same thoughts about Celestia anyway, whether they are a leader or a simple abyss mage so I don't think it's that important. 6:14, well, most likely Khaenri'ah's people tears, as the Abyss Order wants to revive the nation and save its people. Ofc, Celestia caused the tears, and the ones that want to prevent them is obviously the Abyss Order.
A small addittion I can make, as a person who's learning latin, "Abyssus via" can also mean "To the abyss" or "To the depths of the Abyss". This can refer to the place known as the Abyss, not Abyss order itself.
Putting my tinfoil hat on: We know that the destruction of Khaenria'h and the occurrence of the abyss were two different events. Those pillars were thrown at the chasm and the kingdom at dragonspine when they started to adapt the ways of the abyss because the abyss warned them about what Celestia did to Khaenria'h.
those old civilazations are way before the abyss tho.. it seems they were destroyed becuz the ppl had powers closer to the gods like seeing the future, manipualting time and etc
That makes me thinking Snezhnaya will be next civilization to be destroyed, since Tsaritsa warned all her people about inescapable calamity. Seems like she's in connection with the Abyss.
As usual, great video to compelling every scattered infos. Reading Genshin_Lore, participating in Genshin discords on lore, and finding out infos myself can be very tiresome you know, simply to find something else to do after finishing my real life assignments. I need to touch grass lmao.
Thank you for doing this, I had collected all the messages and hadn't gotten around to doing this yet. That the first line is an encrypted version of the second I find most interesting, as it's like finding a Rosetta while only ever having found Greek texts, no Egyptian. It implies there will be standalone encrypted texts in the future, otherwise there would be no need to give us a key to de-encrypt in this way.
"Non est ad" is the beginning of one of the many renditions of a very famous Latin phrase "Ad astra per aspera" that translates to "To the stars, through adversities." This specific rendition of this phrase is "Non est ad astra mollis e Terris via" and translate slightly differently "There's no easy path from the Earth to the Stars" and was written by Seneca in Hercules furens.
That tells me with every pillar lifted up at these places are actually ancient civilizations that goes against' the celestial gods' ideals. Layered up with the story of Archons that leads up to the wars. Covered again with some local area big events (Liyue has ground dragon aka tortoise lol, Monstadt with the Dragonspine dragon and Inazuma with the serpent entities on par with the respective archons on each nation) with the cherry on top being the current, the present time of civilization. Can't you believe this is coming from a free to play game? Years of content waiting to be discovered...looking forward to what contents Sumeru offers next.
wait...with this key also the scripts in Dragonspine can be translated. And the ones in Domains. Basically we have the key to effectively translate Abyssal writings. O_O ( kudos to the person that thought about Latin )
6:40 to me, it seems the abyss has been battling Celestia for thousands of years, and the abyss joined/used/tricked many civilizations to aid them just to get struck with a pillar by Celestia, this also may or may not work in favor of my other prediction that teyvat is somewhat a coin shape land which probably a joke around the saying "BE TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN" referring to the abyss and celestial
Around Ergill, there's a shadowy "door" floating midair. Can be seen from normal camera height. When Pyro/Electro is used against it, it will explode, dealing damage to characters around. I wonder what it is
Do you mean the red and purple gas? It's all over the chasm, one of the notice boards talks about it. It's a gas leak, that's why it explodes, it helps with some enemies/puzzles but also sets your ass on fire if you're not careful.
im just sad, that the developers don't think about casual players who just want to play the game without getting involved with online communities, and will never know of these litte pearls. they should make them less hidden.
@Robin Sailo true, lore will be lost even if you spoon fed them if they're not into it. And the other half of the community will complain about unskippable lore. This way you could have some sort of control on how deep you want to be in the lore
depends on the video. some videos are like this one just labelled genshin impact. some videos are specifically titled with "genshin impact theory" when they're more speculation and tin foil hat territory. saying this channel only posts facts is misleading and even the channel itself labels which videos are theory and which aren't
I’ve actually been waiting for you to post this ! I didn’t knew that you could actually read or observe them when you remove the luminspar device anyway thanks a lot !
6:40 I think the order might be off. I think what they're trying to say is "Egill and Agnarr call on the living to mourn the dead and prevent the shedding of tears." Remember us, and do not repeat our mistakes. As for what mistake, my pet theory is that immortality is not actually a part of the curse put upon Khaenri'ah. They achieved immortality on their own. Which is a crime in the eyes of celestia, and the curse that is turning them into Hilichurls is their punishment.
Those messages could also mean that it was a message on how they would save the people of abyss (or Khaenri'ah) that was been cursed. For the two abyss herald, Agnarr and Egill to do and risk it all for prevent anymore sufferings of their people. I thought when I first read the lines it was just like a summary for new archon quest line. But there are different meanings out there. I'm really curious how would genshin conclude it's story.
just wondering what's your take on khaenriah/abyss references to norse/viking mythology? I mean, dainsleif, halfdan, egill, agnarr are part of viking/norse myth. the dark statuette figure that khaen/abyss mobs drop is similar to odin. lastly, irminsul tree which is located in the abyss is a reference to yggdrasil
This reminds me now, usually when you enter certain domains we are actually on like a platform in the sky. And there is floating Khaenri’an on it too, I wonder what it interprets into.
theyre also on the island witha ll the fog as well, certain parts of the island you can see symbols with that same color but the change everytime you look at them and look away and then look back
WARNING: SPOILERS from the new archon quest called "Caribert". After I finished the new archon quest, the first thing I thought about was exactly this message. That "Sinner" we meet in the new archon quest reminds me so much about this dark message, like he is inviting us to join the abyss, just like here. The modus operandi is the same: I know your pain, I feel your anger to the heavens, come to the abyss. Maybe the abyss order uses that anger, sadness and desperation of those who are cursed to make invitations to enter into the abyss.
A VERY IMPORTANT THING TO NOTICE IN UNDERGROUND CHASM IS THE STONE WALLS: THEY LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE CUBE POWERS OF THE UNKNOWN GOD IN THE BEGINING OF THE GAME: BUT ONLY FROZEN IN STONE. and when u try climibing them too high even if theres no "red border" paimons says "theres nothing there we should go back" or something like " it feels dangeroues"
so, I have a question then - In Dragonspine there is similar text that we saw on the Albedo event, at various locations. is there a link to a video that has translated that? - and i am not talking about the common one with the ruin guards...
@@aspillust when you are performing the tasks set during the albedo story line there was a pool that was drained, and you had the challenges to complete, at the end of that task when you had the chest albedo says that the text there will remain a mystery because even he can't decipher it.

i think in the end the abyss dainsleiff archons fatuis everyone will be against celestia....the before the sun and moon specifies that celestia came from another world and it has destroyed everyone including the primordial god who knows this truth so there's a good chance that we all will be united against celestia
Theres a book in enkanomiya (byakuyakoku collection) that revealed the primodial one "phanes" and how he created the world but the second throne came and declared war. So i think the second throne is the one that caused destruction.
Ps. Im not sure lol
So…
…beneath Monstadt is Khaenri’ah, whose remnants bear seemingly Scandinavian names. Beneath Inazuma is Enkanomiya, inhabited by shades with Hellenic names. And beneath Liyue is the Chasm, the structures of which mirror Enkanomiya and the former citizens of which has left messages inscribed in Latin.
…Norse, Greek, and Roman…
Did Mihoyo write the abyss as the representation of ancient cultures whose religions have been reduced to mythologies? And if so, what does that say about the currently existing nations of Teyvat?
…also, I have no idea what that city above Dragonspine represents.
Sal Vindagnyr, thats the old civilization that settled in Dragonspine and was also destroyed by the 'celestial nail'. Seems to be based around norse myths too?
Ancient Civilization in Sumeru would be like Egyptian, while the current civilization is Hindi 🗿
@@ucleam4108 مادا قلت يا حي,,ن
It is highly likely then, this is a war about ancient civilisations wanting revenge, and getting it through modern era
I remember the time when i was so *CONFUSED* of how it disappears when i walk right into it with my lumenstone adjuvant, then i notice it doesn't disappears anymore when i got my adjuvant lights out
Now that it can be translated, anyone knows the messages that exists in every domain?
DANG IM REALLY WAITING FOR THIS
Some people in the genshin discord did the translation for them but they all seem to end up as gibberish. This was done quite a while ago tho and I havent been keeping up with them since
👏 this comment right here 👏
Wait, there is?
I tried to translate it once a long time back, but that was using the older translation so all I got was gibberish. Never thought of putting it through Google translate.....
"The dweller of in heavens sends the thorns, for the way of the abyss is not to be"
I think this means that celestia nuked the ancient civilization because they were a little too close to the abyss
The other is probably them summoning abyss creatures to help or something
i think they sent the thorns because the Second who came doesn't want to let the other gods know that he is not the Primordial one because the Primodordial one likes helping people so the people would definitely recognize if he is or not the primordial one that's why all the ancient civilizations were all destroyed like the one in dragonspine... you can also see some pictures like someone helping the people I think the one helping them is primordial one the first who came.
@@killua7970 yes and the people there also had powers like seeing the future and chams ppl seemed to know how to manipulate time
Maybe they are referring to the hilichurls because in the story quest the hilichurls go to the chasm because they are dying and one of the message said “mourning to the dead” thats might be the reason for the flash back the traveler saw when he/she with dain and paimon the “the calling of the living” might refer to the hilichurls going inside chasm and “and the shadow” might referring to the curse and for the “to prevent of shedding tears” might referring to the action they made in the last part of the cut scene and also the one that been referred in the flash backs because on how painful it is when they are dying the curse get stronger so i don’t believe that this is the message for telling the traveler to joining the abyss its more like what they are feeling or thoughts about it
Hitting the like button even before finishing the video, cause I know it's gonna be awesome.
Thanks for your hard work Mr. Cat, Love you for your videos
Even your predict for Sumeru was right.
Xamaran mention it.
"Ignorance might be blessing , Knowledge brings Calamity"
"The Dweller in Heaven sends the thorns"
It's giving me "The Lannisters send their regards" kind of vibe.
Except that's not what it actually says.
I love the lore and mysterious stories in Genshin man ..keep up the good work!
It's what makes thw lore so deep... There lore for everyone... Casuals and people who just wanna dig the game i love this multi layers story telling
What's interesting is that the text recharges your lumenspar, then dissapears
Wtf
I do love this part of the Genshin community. People diving deep into secret messages and using their brains so I don't have to
The amount of hidden lore in Genshin is actually surprising
Thank you so so so much for compiling all this lore and making your RUclips videos!! I absolutely adore getting to know all of this lore information that isn’t directly within the Archon quests! Thank you again for all the hard work you do, it’s very very much appreciated!! ❤️☺️😊
This is what I've been waiting for from your channel! thank you for sharing!
I think the dweller more likely refers to Asmoday, since the "Heavens" already refers to Celestia
i love your lore videos, they're so journalistic in the approach, there's something just so amazing about that
I was waiting for you to discover this! thanks as always, keep doing the good work.
I've been waiting for you to make this video!!
Very simple but very cool editing!! Thanks for compiling the info.
Watched your video yesterday before sleeping but forgot to leave a comment!
Thank you for this video, it's really interesting!
Also I''m grateful to all comments!
Thanks to you all others can build new theories and open something new in previous quests!
I was waiting for you to cover the purple glow-in-the-dark text. Thank you very much for covering it :D
THANK YOU Ive always wanted to know the translations of them after finding so many everywhere!!!!
This feels like a bigger event of a lore thane we thought....Mihoyo you smarty
I've been waiting for you to post abt this since i couldn't translate those 😩
Amazing video, great job putting it all together~! 💙🦋
So much work, what a good video! Thank you!!
Thank you for translating the message, I was waiting for someone to decode it. I searched everywhere in internet but nobody has until now.
that is amazing! thank you to all who worked to decipher this
Great work as always. Also thumbs up for the reddit users! This is very interesting.
A small addittion I can make, as a person who's learning latin, "Abyssus via" can also mean "To the abyss" or "To the depths of the Abyss". This can refer to the place known as the Abyss, not Abyss order itself.
Putting my tinfoil hat on:
We know that the destruction of Khaenria'h and the occurrence of the abyss were two different events.
Thank you for your good work.
This new area is interesting.
Amazing video. Hidden lore is the best. Thanks bro!
Thank goodness i was waiting for the translation of these abyss messages in the chasm
"Non est ad" is the beginning of one of the many renditions of a very famous Latin phrase "Ad astra per aspera" that translates to "To the stars, through adversities."
This specific rendition of this phrase is "Non est ad astra mollis e Terris via" and translate slightly differently "There's no easy path from the Earth to the Stars" and was written by Seneca in Hercules furens.
Like "Ad Astra Abysossque" "to the stars and into the abyss" ?
What timing! I just finished the chasm (I think) and this video just got released 😹
This is like the 'Cicada puzzle' where they recruit those who can encript the message.
thanks for your effort man!
I was waiting for somebody to translate these
I love every vid, keep it up
You can’t even imagine how hard I waited for this video from you hahaha
I was waiting for someone to translate this 😭😭
I saw those everywhere in the chasm but couldn't understand them you're amazing
I AM WAITING FOR THIS!
If you find a giant sky nail there’s bound to be a lost civilization that Celestia has smite down.
Finally, i expected this for like months ago
'call upon the living' probably calling anyone whom become a subject to Celestia judgement to join the abyss and seek for revenge
That tells me with every pillar lifted up at these places are actually ancient civilizations that goes against' the celestial gods' ideals.
Layered up with the story of Archons that leads up to the wars.
Covered again with some local area big events (Liyue has ground dragon aka tortoise lol, Monstadt with the Dragonspine dragon and Inazuma with the serpent entities on par with the respective archons on each nation)
with the cherry on top being the current, the present time of civilization.
Can't you believe this is coming from a free to play game?
Years of content waiting to be discovered...looking forward to what contents Sumeru offers next.
I can't wait for more crumbs on these stories 😩
OMG you'll not believe that just yesterday i tried to find the translations for those texts and i couldnt. What a timing
2:18 shakespeare finally made up his mind
FINALLY thank you!
wait...with this key also the scripts in Dragonspine can be translated. And the ones in Domains. Basically we have the key to effectively translate Abyssal writings. O_O ( kudos to the person that thought about Latin )
I’ve been wondering about these. Interesting, but now I have more questions than when I started.
Getting goosebumps 👀👀👀
a friendly reminder that this channel posts facts after lots of research it's sad to see some people considering his videos as theories
It's facts and theories you noob, literally fucking both.
im just sad, that the developers don't think about casual players who just want to play the game without getting involved with online communities, and will never know of these litte pearls. they should make them less hidden.
@@WastedTalent83 Nah that would just make the game boring
Glorious as always cat with the blue hat
Thx for the info
I’ve actually been waiting for you to post this ! I didn’t knew that you could actually read or observe them when you remove the luminspar device anyway thanks a lot !
Imagine all messages in dains voice
The thumbnail as it reads to be:
"Celestia, created, abyss."
I feel like this is a criminal documentary
theyre also on the island witha ll the fog as well, certain parts of the island you can see symbols with that same color but the change everytime you look at them and look away and then look back
Ah the messages give me nostalgia of 2004 when I used the Braille in the pokemon emerald booklet to decode the message foe the regis.
this is amazing
Then there's our bro enjou so chill despite being a pyro lector
4:50 I think 'I call the living' signals to the hillichurls that were put at ease down in the depths, I'm not too confident though
After doing caribet quest the 2nd interpretation makes more sense.
so, I have a question then -
In Dragonspine there is similar text that we saw on the Albedo event, at various locations. is there a link to a video that has translated that? - and i am not talking about the common one with the ruin guards...
what? where'd you find these?
@@aspillust when you are performing the tasks set during the albedo story line there was a pool that was drained, and you had the challenges to complete, at the end of that task when you had the chest albedo says that the text there will remain a mystery because even he can't decipher it.
The Final Experiment: Withering Glory
is the title of it
maybe i am mis-remembering it, I thought there was a chunk of text there
not to mention the Irminsul trees both weakened in Spinedragon and the Chasm, where surprise: A WEIRD COLUMN THAT PROBABLY DESTROYED THE ANCIENT CIVILIZATION FOUNDED BY THE PRIMORDIAL IS FLOATING.
yes, I love the lore
These comments are helping me alot(im taking down notes about genshin lore and theories) and also i feel overloaded with this information, how does everybody come with this-
