  • Genshin Impact's Traveler has long used the Dull Blade for what seemed like no reason at all... until several months ago a user on twitter happened to share an eagle eyed catch with me. In this video I'm going to share their catch, in order to share with you all the definitive reason the Traveler's original blade has not returned thus far.

      Alternatively the Sustainer could still have the blade and is waiting to give it back at the right time.
      The more time passes, the less the sustainer seems like a true antagonist.
      In fact the sustainer may well be istaroth.
      The arrogation of mankin: may not be referring to humans trying to claim the power of celestia but rather the arrogation is trying to claim the power of the abyss.

    I actually noticed that the Traveler used his/her hand to channel the yellow lighting energy but no seem to take note of that particular cutscene, it just felt very strange almost similar to how Dain can channel a strange power through his hands. It shows that the blade or weapon is just an extension of the Traveler’s true power like how Xingqiu mentions a Vision and a weapon combined serves to do this very purpose in one of his character stories. I think the dull blade is fitting although we all find it absurd and hilarious it just shows how much has been taken from the Traveler that the dull blade is kind of a testament to that, like a blank canvas, if the weapon was a 5 star I think it kinda takes away the focus on the Traveler being the one who channels the power of the elements and not the weapon alone (which is why it’s so eye catching maybe an eye sore for some but seeing how the dull blade absorbs elemental power like with the Liyue scene having that golden glow or that Electro sword when fighting the Shogun that got bigger) plus it’s description pretty much fits the Traveler.
    “Youthful dreams and the thrill of adventure. If this isn’t enough, then make it up with valiance.”

    • @Rexhunterj
      @Rexhunterj 2 года назад +286

      The description of the dull sword is rather important also: _"Youthful dreams and the thrill of adventure. If this isn't enough, then make it up with valiance."_
      The sword, being a 1 star, can only reach level 70 and so it's true form can't ever be achieved through normal means.
      based on how the billet system and artifacts work in lore, the Dull Blade was once some other sword but over time has become so forgotten and eroded that it only resembles a frail blade made of unknown metal.
      "Make it up with valiance."

    • @no-ww8bk
      @no-ww8bk 2 года назад +103

      You are completely right about the weapons being an extension from the actual character, as it has been shown many times that vision holders and/or characters who wield an element in general can use their elements just fine without a weapon. This is proven when yoimiya uses her vision to create fireworks and ningguang shooting a ton of geo thingies at osial’s wife during the 2.4 quest.I think that genshin just has in weapons for playable characters for more unique gameplay so not every character will have nearly the exact same attack patterns.

      The Traveller was never washed in Monstad. WE, players, start on the beach, but if we read the dialogues, we discover that the Traveller caught Paimon 2 months prior that scene. We don't actually know anything of the whereabouts of the traveller before WE, players, see him on the beach, talking with Paimon. ALSO.... there is a pretty sus meteor in the Chasm that looks exploded, not crashed and what many have mistaken for a crater, is instead the result of an explosion from below ( check the rock formation, it's blown upward, not downward like an impact from above would create). We are missing, in theory, a second meteor that doesn't glow in purple, like Lumine's power does.

    My personal thought was that just like with how the Traveler had their powers taken, the sword also had it's power taken, and that the dull blade shown in cut-scenes is our Traveler's original sword and perhaps, once the Traveler has finished their journey, then it could return to it's original form. Every weapon in game at least changes color when it's ascended, it's not too much of a stretch to believe that they can change shape too (if i'm not mistaken, the loading screen hint says that some change shape too)

    The only thing which seems wrong with this theory, is that Lumine probably awoke long before the fall of Khaenri'ah, as not only has she an unusual love for Khaenri'ah (which would be weird if she just woke up in a crumbling city of which she knows nothing about), but she also travelled with Dainsleif, and has since stopped travelling with him due to his so called "betrayal" at the fall of Khaenri'ah. Now, if she woke up during the cataclysm, there would have been no time to travel with dain, and no time to form a close bond to Khaenri'ah. I'd say Lumine woke up sooner, perhaps even helped Khaenri'ah for years, decades, perhaps centuries. She has lived much much more than 500 years, hell, the twins are probably immortal themselves. So, for an immortal for whom 10 centuries is like 10 years, how would a crumbling city be important which she met few seconds ago?

      @frozen3078 2 года назад +31

      Not really sure what you mean by "buffing the Traveller to be a playable DPS". The Traveller's Geo stance is insanely strong. You can very easily use Geo MC as main carry in a team to 36 star the Abyss. My MC talents are 3/9/9 in all elements and I've used her in multiple 36 star abyss runs. I get the point with Electro because it is 100% support (ER support) and pretty underwhelming in today's Genshin. Anemo MC is VERY strong too, the only downside is the limitation on burst utility due to its forward movement. If they changed the tornado to be stationary, Anemo MC would be so much better.
      Again, Anemo is strong but her Burst is very situational, Geo is pretty much always strong as hell, Electro is the only meh thing about it. Give your MC Mistsplitter or Jade Cutter and it becomes what you're asking for. My Geo MC got so much stronger after I acquired Mistplitter and it was already clearing the abyss.
      Keep in mind that Geo MC is not a main carry that requires you to stay on it for too long, just pop in, throw your E and/or Burst, pop out. All this while increasing your entire team's Crit Chance by 10% inside her burst field.
      How is this not strong as hell? If you give her "the most powerful 5 star weapon" and you won't even need supports on her, the balance factor would've to be increasing her burst cost.

    A strange legendary sword was once mentioned by kaeya. It appears as though that sword fell from the sky and kaeya's ancestor (or so I remember) found it. It then gave that ancestor incredible powers; so before his death, that ancestor hid the sword and it was never found again. The dull blade is a replacement for the traveler's sword until we reach a point in the story where we stumble upon the sword fighting some type of boss or something. It will reappear then as a reward to a story quest. That is my speculation.

    I am sure the developers had the game's story well thought through at the time of release. Up to tiniest of details, including the blades. There's many similar details that can be found and which other lore archeologists have pointed out. So far the game is surprisingly consistent with regards to the background story that's only revealed to us bit by bit. But it's a question whether this will survive till the end. There definitely must be changes to that as the game evolves and since there's a release every month, there might not be enough time to keep the whole story consistent through all of that process. We'll see.

    Hell it sounds to be such a point of contention in the community that im surprised no one went back to rewatch the cutscene, even in real life if you lose something people ask where you saw it last, so its pretty surprising no one seems to have gone back to view the cutscene over

    Lumine's sword is different than her brother's. The base of her sword is curved where as Aether's base is straight. So Lumine kept hers but we don't see her holding her brother's sword in the first interaction...so my guess is that the Sustainer has our sword

      If you look at the cutscene of lumine in kaenri'ah it's aethers sword, with the straight hilt. So it has definitely been transported back in time with the abyss sibling. The question is if it's still in kaenri'ah or not.

      It doesn't look like the SUStainer has it in the cutscene. We're most likely going to get back that sword by the time we're at the Cryo region. Yes, it has to be in Teyvat when the Twins were fighting and the sword fell somewhere at a certain point in time via by displacement. So there has to be legends or clues to the sword's whereabouts on our journey.

    Have any one played kaeya's story quest? There was a part of it which tells us about a sword of great power which feel from sky. His grandfather kept the sword safely in his possession. We get to know later that it was a joke of some sort. But if you think about it . Kaeya is from khenria and there is a possibility that it is true .....
    I still waiting for end game and the stories conclusion ✌🏻

    A simple yet so fitting of a reason. Does make a lot of sense even that perhaps maybe if (whoever we chose as our traveler) held on to it, maybe we may have never got to the point where we are experiencing the current storyline.

    Well, I've already been spoiled by a leaked video that shows Aether and Lumine's original wings being used as a glider- so I can safely assume that, yes, the traveler WILL regain their powers at some point later on in the game, and their original sword. I think, personally, it'll be an endgame thing, though. Just like Dainslief being a future playable character. He might end up being the final released character, when we get closer to the end of the game's story.

    Based on some dialogue from way back before Inzauma dropped, the Traveler is slowly regaining their old power as they collect the seven elements of Teyvat. My guess is one of two things: either the blade is the source of the Traveler's power, or the Traveler's power is the source of the blade. Either way, they've got to be connected.
    First option: the Traveler's original sword gives them their strength. This is, in my opinion, the less interesting of the two ideas. Basically how it goes is that when the Traveler was separated from their sword for so long, they lost access to the power that it grants them. And now that they're using the different elements, they're not getting that old power back. Rather, they're replacing it with something equivalent but not necessarily the same. Instead of their golden light attacks, like the one they used on the Unknown God, they're getting to a similar level of strength via the ability to channel all seven elements at their leisure- perhaps even simultaneously, if Childe's fight is anything to go off. So chances are that by the end of the story, we won't see the original sword ever again because the Traveler won't need its power anymore, having replaced their golden light with the elements.
    Second option: the Traveler's power manifests the sword. I like this one much better, personally. The base proposition is quite simple: the Traveler can create their old sword via their golden light power. So why have we never seen it since? Simple: we already know the Traveler lost access to said power, so of course, it stands to reason that they can't manifest the sword anymore without it. This idea follows the theory that in the endgame of Genshin, the Traveler will regain their unique golden light abilities. And as proof of their restored strength, they'll summon their old weapon back into their hands and duke it out with- well, who knows? The Tsaritsa? The Unknown God? Their sibling? Only one way to find out. But my money's on either UG or some other leader of Celestia, but explaining that idea would be getting into a whole other tangent.

    Or it might be called "Photo" while the dark is "Nycto". Im also hoping for Paimon to evolve to mature form and her power, the time is "Chrono" and the space is "Astro"

    The Dull Blade it's actually his sword, but it's sealed.
    Remember guys, The Sustainer captured one twin and sealed the other. We can conclude that his sword comes within his powers, The other twin still have it's powers
    Hence " Dull " Blade.
