The calm before the absolute tomfoolery that is Sumeru Lore. This video came after I asked myself the question "Why does the Traveler use a "fake name"?" and then I stayed up with the unfortunate thought that in al universe, the Traveler calls themselves "ventifucker" in public for the heck of it. The human mind is an enigma.
The weird thing is that you can change your "fake name" and the character that already know you will use this new "fake name" instead of the name they introduced themself. Also why noone suspect the traveler using delusion? They use elemental without vision. Kazuha use Electro once when he parry Raiden and everyone think he use delusion but not us who clearly have no vision?
@@recentmap7268 because using delusional will have similar case like vision, which playable never seen them on traveler. That why they don't suspect anything
And the fact that, before the twins came to Teyvat, they could fly, they had great power. Now the Traveler's stuck in Teyvat. They can't truly fly under their own power, like they did in the beginning cutscene, only glide pathetically on wingliders, dependent on the wind. Their only powers come from Teyvat's elements. It must feel like getting their wings clipped. Teyvat must feel like a prison of some sort.
So, yeah, the Traveler is being nice, finding friends. I believe that part of that is the Traveler's personality, but he/she's probably doing just to keep their sanity. They're keeping their distance from everyone else because as soon as they find a way to get their powers back and find their sibling, they're going to be g o n e.
@@samueltheblonde I don't think they may leave....unless the sibling agrees, tbh it seems they enjoy the festivals, learning teyvat even beyond their sibling, but in the end of the day what their sibling says...goes....its why when asked if they will stay, they give ambiguous responses or say unless their sibling says otherwise They prob don't hate everyone or hate every nation, but it isn't their home, it's their sibling and even if he cares about other characters, they are always loyal to their sibling first and foremost
@@partygamingz3332 It's inevitable that they'll leave eventually, because in all likelihood they will outlive Teyvat and all life on it. Zhongli is convinced of that, since he says that so long as the Traveler keeps Teyvat in their memory, it will live forever in their minds as they travel to other worlds.
Yea but the real question is why the traveller hasn't ever talked about other worlds in voice lines or in any quest like yea now he wouldn't talk about the worlds because he knows the existence of forbidden knowledge but isn't weird how he hasn't every talked about it in the past
@@maxmoon4138 They do talk about other worlds: it's just mostly to Paimon. For example, in Mondstadt after seeing Dvalin, they express surprise that Dragons are real in Teyvat. Indicating that on past worlds they visited there were no Dragons.
I think the Traveler almost never shows "power" because standing out too much is in the way of finding the sibling. Imagine in Sumeru, we would fight every enemy with "trapping them inside geo walls while throwing lightningtornadoes at them". In a matter of seconds the whole world would look at us.
@@vincentdreemurr Yeah the Traveler clearly isn't trying to keep a low profile. They've fought and defeated several Gods at this point, and make a habit of saving every country they cross the borders into. In Inazuma they literally restored the habitability of most of its islands, caused two oppressive decrees to be repealed, and ended a Civil War, while in Sumeru they started a revolution and completely changed the country's government by reinstating its Archon to power. They also don't keep it secret at all that they can use elemental power without a Vision, which according to the laws of this world shouldn't be possible for a "Human". Every time it's mentioned people, even Gods, are confused by it. The Traveler isn't keep their power a secret, they're just still restoring the power they lost.
To many in Teyvat the numerous feats would in time become a jumbled memory: say by the time of Natlan or Shneznaya only individuals involved may remember the specific feats- while others especially who don't know the traveler, would only get a general idea of their power (as even the people of Liyue in the battle that destroyed the Jade Palace 1.0 would know to some extent the power the traveler showed but not necessarily understand that the various adepti, etc. on the platform lent their power temporarily to the traveler which is how/why the traveler did what they were said to do).
I also like to think that the Traveler just, doesn't want to settle. Yes, they have problems with Teyvat as it being their prison, but even if those problems are solved, they're wayward soul. I think that being a friendly bypasser in other people's lives is something they used to. They had a great time, but its time to move on. Both siblings must be really old, so they know that they will outlive the most encounters they had in other worlds, and that sharing too much or getting too close will just, hurt both parties when Traveler will leave Teyvat. I think that the relationship they have with their friends are really good and healthy. They're respected and welcomed by others, but open about that they WON'T stay, and other characters accept it. Traveler is bypasser, not a lifetime friend/partner/neighbor. I think that its kindness to not dump their own burdens and secrets on people that eventually will never see them again.
Something that comes to mind is the recent Yokai event, which deals with the subject of befriending and interacting with Humans, and how for the long-lived Yokai it's inevitable that it will end in heartbreak. When talking to Chizuru, the Traveler says that they understand what she means. The significance of it probably isn't immediately apparent to a lot of people, but when you consider just how old the twins are, you start to realize that they've probably had to say more goodbyes than you can even imagine. Only, it's not just Humans. It's everyone. Per Zhongli, Ei, and even the Sumeru fortune teller Nabiya, the Traveler is going to outlive every single person they've met on Teyvat. Whether they're Human, or Adepti, or Gods. And if not outlive them, then outlive their capacity to remember, as immortals on Teyvat are subject to erosion. Granted, there is a blessing in disguise there. Because to the twins, who will presumably live for tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of years more (or even longer than that?), the life of even a God will seem short. The Traveler _can_ be a lifetime friend or partner to the people they meet in Teyvat. It's just that the opposite can't be true. They can stay by the side of everyone they care about in this world until the day they die, and just move on afterward. Like their twin says, they've always had enough time.
My thought precisely. I believe that aside from being siblings that is also one of the greatest motivators for finding the abyss sibling and reuniting with them. Objectively their sibling is the only person that will ever stick around and be a constant in the traveller‘s life. As seen in a lot of other media, living an unnaturally long live can easily lead to crippling loneliness and existential dread due to a lack of meaningfulness.
Also about his age, at the end of zhonglis first archon quest, and so on whenever talking about the traveler being a witness, that he is fully confident the traveler will outlive all of teyvat and himself, without fear of erosion, meaning he knows that they are immortal (can't age) at the very least which is one of the reasons why the traveler is a witness Also one of the dialogue options in the sumeru archon quest with the fortune teller, the npc says the traveler will live for 10,000 years to which paimon agrees as accurate. So I think zhongli and paimon are atleast aware the traveler is way older than a regular mortal
To be specific the fortune teller says many, many tens of thousands of years, not just 10,000. And even that's probably a lowball since Zhongli is convinced the Traveler will outlive this entire world. Ei also mentions that so long as the Traveler remembers her, then she will live forever: indicating that like Zhongli, she knows that the Traveler will both outlive her and never erode.
It is interesting that that NPC does react with shock at the "fact" they see the Traveler living so long. In most NPC interactions when it's revealed they are so old/saw certain things it is taken in a more calm way.
@@lkimberly2064 The Traveler doesn't reveal their true age to most people. Not even to most characters who they're on good terms with. Most people who deal with them tend to assume they're a young Human. Even those who know that they're from another world still don't seem to know that they're older than the Gods. Even when some marker of their real age comes out, it's usually just the fact that they saw the fall of Khaenri'ah. And even that still elicits surprise, despite it "only" being 500 years ago. So far it really only seems to be Archons who have an idea of how old the Traveler actually is, and how long they'll continue to live. And probably because the Traveler told them off-screen.
@L Kimberly the fortune teller specifically thought they messed up if I recall correctly, with paimon correcting them saying that's probably the most accurate fortune they've ever told or something along those lines.
@@fdragon77fk My point is most of the time people either don't seem to know directly (they know hearsay at best) or if they do we never see them be told.. The Sumeru fortune teller is the first one, if they aren't told offscreen, that we see a 'genuine' reaction to even a portion of what/who the Traveler actually is (even we don't know). And when you consider it.. remember how much suspicion the "sages" (before Nahida acted) put upon the traveler? Such unknowns may have been part of why. Including, at a partial guess: that the sages who were abusing their power didn't want someone who possibly knew of their past actions in detail free.
Though the Traveler does trust Paimon, for whatever reason they sometimes hide information from Paimon too. In the Zhongli quest, Paimon expresses surprise that the Traveler knew and experienced Khan'reiah, if I recall correctly.
All of the Dainslief content has already been made by the company already including the reunion of his sister after he explored all seven regions already as well. They are intentionally not placing them inside of the game immediately because of the fact that the cutscenes are noticeably stand out among the other cutscenes in the game along with the fact that people playing the game will not likely understand the context without seeing the information prior related to them as well.
Traveler seems to increasingly withhold information from Paimon and think to themselves right next to Paimon from the later part of Sumeru into Fontaine
@@jaradrichardsC137 ...you forgot enkanomiya. at the end of it's throughline quest the abyss lecter (it was enjou i think) directly says paimon is hiding something and if traveler isn't afraid she'll betray them. and lo and behold, right after enkanomiya we got the sumeru region.
I would be actually weirded out by people who actively goes around spreading their concerns, weaknesses, past, trauma to every single one of their friends and acquaintances... the furthest thing they would be is a relatable character.
you would be surprised there are actual people out there that do exactly that. I have a friend right now i told him he needs to stop sharing so much with other people cause not everyone on this planet has your well being in mind, at the bare minimum it seems he got the message...to an extent.
i like to think that traveler hides their identity and remains secretive even with their friends so that they don't get too attached to a world and find it hard to leave the world and people behind once the time comes
The female traveler at least disclosed information about the fact she did infact explore other regions besides Tevyat when she was a lot smaller as well I believe. I really do not recall anymore specifically about what she was saying considering that she was also well aware that she was being watched/being remotely controlled from far away as well. It was also very difficult to recall it was even mentioned by her as well considering the environment that the information that the domains were mentioned in among the facts that she also clearly mentioned that even though the domain(s) were really, really fun to do they might not actually get able to get explored in the public release of the game as well.
I actually believe that more than likely she directly explained what she wanted someone to say to your exact comment as well in one of the domains as well. It is hard to say if she mentioned becuase she felt like it or ultimately had no choice in the matter to as well. She was saying very, very specific things only THAT SHE FELT LIKE SAYING around those particular times as well keeping the other thoughts to primarily to herself as well. It was definitely a domain where I WAS JUST OBSERVING HER from afar as well. She ONLY MENTIONED the other facts that she DID NOT mention in the other domains among the ones when I was feeling absolutely unbearable pain from her, plus she only mentioned them herself only because she did not really want to move forward anymore even a few steps unless she had to. She also mentioned that the domain should only preferably get played inside of the public release of the game after the seventh region is fully completed, and explored; I believe as well. Also the others MUST TO FULLY COMPLETED AS WELL!!! She WAS VERY SPECIFIC about saying it DIRECTLY to Mihiyo as well.
I also believe that very few of the domains are completely personalized as well with my name being mentioned inside of them as well, something that I am not fully certain Mihiyo might actually have placed inside of the public release of the game or not. She definitely mentioned that she almost always had the ability to do that as well. I definitely did so many of them that even one of them by themselves is completely different textwise from the others ones as well. I believe that she also only saying certain things because she eventually got used to being around my presence as well. Bizarrely the way that the previous comments were typed up is exactly how she was explaining herself thoughtwise grammatically speaking at least as well.
She did kind of assume that the hardware was realistic enough to show even the stuff that SHOULD NOT BE SEEN on the screen among other character saying something very similar when they were specifically waiting and patiently waiting for stuff to be done to themselves and away from their DIRECT viewpoints as well. There is already hardware to emulate placing fully made and designed clothes a character model inside of a closet, even before they made their own game as well.
There really was not that much a height increase on the character throughout all of the previous encounters up to that point in time, so probably the master file that Mihiyo probably made for those specific domains would UNLOCK IT if the previous prerequisites were met already as well. It is kind of hard to say what actually took place in all of them considering that no one even really knew about the game then when I was actively doing this as well. She definitely had the time to have some personalized domains be completeled as well probably just rambling on and on about her true thoughts as well really, really, really early on before she even noticed I was there as well.
Ayato figured out the Traveler was from another world by himself, which fits a brainiac like him. But I find it so odd that the Traveler shared their secret with Xinyan freely.
Its just sad that most people don't look past the very thin surface of traveler being a supposed self insert, even though they're so obviously not. Aether and lumine are pretty much my favorite genshin characters and i love their lore so much
FINALLY another Traveler enthusiast! It really makes me sad when people say the Traveler have almost no personality when I immediately fell in love with Lumine at the start of the game
@@JamesCalbraith yeah, nit to mention they wouldn't have canon names, or an actual backstory we don't know about, also they wouldn't 'go behind our back' or do things that THEY want like go after scara or challenge signora or anything
As an Aether main, I actively make dialogue choices based on how I understand Aether's character through his voice lines, the little backstory we get, and his single-mindedness when it comes to Lumine, which contributes to the way he helps people but kinda distant himself anyway and his readiness to leave Teyvat once he's reunited with Lumine although he cares abt his friends. It makes no sense to me to think of the Traveller as ONLY a self-insert, it's just that the game allows players to think that. Whether it's Aether or Lumine, them as the Abyss Prince/Princess share the same goal, but they have quite different personalities, from the way they talk and how they carry themselves. And Traveller knowing a lot more than the player is a clear sign that it's not entirely self-insert, we don't get to choose what kind of person Aether/Lumine essentially is, they already have their own personality and history.
@@floofrules absolutely, i do the same. But for me, ever since to be reunited its a little less singleminded, and more about finding the truth. Of course he still loves her and wants to be reunited, but i assume he feels a little resentment, and he's mentioned that he thinks that wgat she's doing is foolish, which is very interesting. Idk but yeah aether is hilarious and i LOVE his relationship with paimon, his dialog options can be so funny
My personal belief is that the Traveler does not actively hide their identity, they just doesn't bring it up. Whenever someone expresses knowledge about their origin or past, they never really react with shock. Side note, Paimon is so far the only Teyvatan that knows the Traveler's real name (Aether/Lumine), and iirc is the one that suggests that they choose an alias. By the way, isn't it a tiny bit suspicious that people's recollection of historical events change when Irminsul is altered, but Paimon has none of the shattering vase? Could have easily been explained by Paimon being a clutz, or angry about food or anything really.
I mean, there are characters that do express an interest in knowing about them but in reality, all they're given is fluff. Nothing in depth about their background and history.
I think it's also interesting that while we don't know if Lumine chose a fake name, the Aranara just refer to her as Nara Varuna. I originally thought that was her fake name and the contraption was named after her, but it's actually the other way around. The Aranara don't know the sibling's name, they just call her Nara Varuna, The Nara who fixed the Varuna contraption.
I don't think it's weird cause Paimon is the one who accidentally broke it and not directly cause by Scaramouche. If the scenario is like this: "Paimon saw Scaramouche accidentally broke the vase" then it would be a different case the time Scaramouche alters the Irminsul. After alteration: Paimon saw (replacement: any character that is present at that time) accidentally broke the vase
@@Wei06177 she broke it because of Scaramouche. But now she has no memory of breaking it at all, when Irminsul should have replaced the breaking's cause with something else This either means Paimon also follows different rules or Irminsul is flawed in some way. That or the writers just missed thinking about it, which happens.
I also noticed that the traveler kept everyone around them at arm length. They're nice and friendly, they hear out the playable characters woes but never really talk about their own struggles and never really confide to others Even when they're clearly suffering enough that they dreamed about abyss herald taunting them, they didn't talk about it, not even with Paimon.
something i really like about genshin is that, the traveller can still be a pretty blank slate on the surface (so a perfect immersive self insert), but for those looking for more, you can find it! the voice lines feel like such a gem. this game has such a way of sucking me in.
@@shio5234 Kinda like the Persona 3/4/5 Protags, they are blank enough to project yourself into them, but their responses to things happening in the world are enough to make a personality out of each of them. Hell, Minato/Makoto from P3 is the most silent out of all three of them , yet you can see the character development during the story by his responses, he goes from "I don't care, I don't know, whatever" when people talk to him, to actually being proactive and worried about his friends. Or how the dialogue options for the 4/5 protags are mostly sarcastic and snarky. Which are better reflected in the anime adaptations.
Lumine/Aether are like semi-automatic transmission vehicles. They can work like Blank slates/self inserts, but simultaneously also be their own character as they still do have an important role in the story. This is also apparent in both Ritsukas (Gudako/Gudao) in FGO and even both Hakunos in Fate/Extra (Extella/CCC). It's precisely by these two virtues that the story sucks me and think about what this story really means for me in and outside the game. This is also present as said earlier, that Persona 3/4/5's protags work in a similar way. The problem is people tend to think the SIs are more about seggs seggs and seggs when we can put a twist of what if they're actually bonafide celibates? And its ironic since those who think the SIs are more on seggs forget that not everyone is like that.
There's also the fact that the Traveler doesn't have an overworld passive. An inherent ability related to the worlds natural resources, tools/food crafted from them or anything related to navigating the basic geography. Even looking in the talent menu shows nothing but an empty space regardless of elemental affiliation. I doubt this is because they simply don't have one but instead actively choose not to use it for reasons concerning personal secrecy. My guess is that it's likely related to the wings we see in the opening cutscene. However, since actual flight outside of gods, birds & using the Anemo element is otherwise unheard of. They avoid using it on account of the special attention it could draw. It may even give greater hints to their actual identity if certain people knew better or if the wrong people might be watching.
@@berrynmint_ Pretty likely. Not entirely sure how it'd function but, it'll probably be pretty worth the wait even if it doesn't make them completely OP.
@@draeitygmon6536 At the end of Genshin Impact: Here is the Travellers passive "they have a chance to obtain 2x of.... wait for it.... ANY meal that you cook!"
The Traveler is an unreliable narrator, full stop. It also frustrates me sometimes how much some characters close to the Traveler seem to outright refuse to question things, as if it's taboo to pry into the life of what is essentially a one of a kind superhuman. Nobody questions Paimon aside characters who are "questioning" by nature (like Albedo and Rosaria) and those characters don't get an answer either because Paimon dodges the questions and the characters mysteriously lose interest in pressing further. It's like most characters in Teyvat have brain fog whenever they try to think about Paimon and the Traveler.
Only Paimon and Traveller questioned each other. And both r unreliable as hell. Paimon just dodge it strangely too smoothly while Traveller just refused to talk abt it. Paimon hardly question them back either. These 2 r friends without knowing anything abt each other. How ironic
Now tbf it is taboo to pry into anyone's life, regardless if they're super or not. So if Paimon refuses to answer questions about her nature then there's nothing they can do about it without invading privacy.
@@vino-k5650 I don't think it's ironic and it's more out of genuine respect. The fact is while Paimon and the Traveler don't talk about thier past, they do spend all thier time together and know how the other person is and they care about them regardless of thier past.
@@hadrianhexe9603 sorry cuz I don’t say much context. True it’s genuine respect but when u want to talk abt how sussy Paimon is, then it’s ironic. Traveller doesn’t trust a single archon, basically zero trust for everyone in Teyvat who r oso willing to listen to the Traveller, talk to abt themselves, seek help from them and provide Traveller back with necessary help. Ppl must have a lot of trust for Traveller to continuously rely and help Traveller but they never trust any single person here. They don’t trust them enough to start giving out every single stuff abt themselves. Albedo, the Archons, Dainslef, Wanderer, Tartaglia, Xiao and etc. These ppl know nothing abt the Traveller, their thoughts, feeling, their past and etc. All they know is Traveller is a reliable person that they can disclose information. Now u look at Paimon. Traveller knows nothing abt her. She doesn’t even provide important clues for Traveller nor does she disclose stuff abt herself. What make Paimon the least reliable friend compare to every single person on Teyvat for Traveller here is the fact she oso doesn’t trust Traveller enough to even talk abt herself, unlike Albedo when he told Traveller abt his secret of being a synthetic human, or Xiao who is easier to ask him abt anything. Yet Paimon withholds the most information abt the Traveller than the whole Teyvat. Traveller decideds to put all their trust on Paimon and they have no idea who the hell is Paimon. Now that’s ironic. Cuz if I’m going to choose between Paimon and Albedo or any important character in Genshin in terms of being a reliable friend, Paimon is off the list.
@@hadrianhexe9603 I believe that friendship or any relationship is built with trust. You have to trust someone to befriend with them. If it’s purely by feeling then sadly, ppl change. The problem here is that Traveller is trusting someone who doesn’t trust them. Paimon is very wary of Traveller if u pay enough attention. And ofc Traveller is oso wary of her, they will always try to ask Paimon abt herself when they have a chance and this Paimon just refused to answer.
Crack theory(maybe): what if revealing your name and background as an outlander increases the chance of the irminsul recording you. Think of it like this, the abyss sibling may have confided in dain and the citizens of Khaenri'ah about their name and past, and because they released all of that information it became grounded in the memories of everyone there, and they eventually became part of teyvats memories too since people know so much about them. I don't doubt that they may have become a celebrity during their time down there, considering that they lived with Pierro of all people. The traveler not revealing their own story to anyone but paimon (and a select few others, who know how to keep a secret) essentially creates a barrier between themselves and irminsul. Most people don't actually know who they are, and probably don't have enough of a reason who divulge into anything more than the origin of their strength. Of anything, if the traveler were to be written into irminsul, i honestly can't see them as being anything but a nameless placeholder OR being only written down as 'traveler' with a false personality that is still seperate from the actual traveler; thus not really affecting them??
I like this, but as the person above my comment said, the traveler isn’t probably thinking that much, and we just recently learned about the irminsul and that our brother/sister is recorded on there
@@Gibmeprimogemss thats why i said it was a crack theory haha, it would be wayyy to easy if the traveler was thinking abt things like this at all or if their (vocally) quiet nature was affecting the main plot so much. Still it is strange that the traveler rarely gives a hint about themselves while every other character gives them a full blown auto biography on the first day they meet him, without them asking haha
Several cultures irl have beliefs surrounding True Names, and in fiction, knowing one can even give you power over the person bearing the name. If True Names also have some kind of power in this universe, it makes sense that the Traveler would not divulge their name to anyone. My understanding of the use of True Names irl is that your True Name is the one that actually describes YOU, whereas your normal everyday name anyone can call you by is just a moniker. Because you're essentially using a "fake name" all the time, it makes it hard for the fairies and evil spirits to figure out who to target. With the number of John Smiths we have around, things get confusing for them. (If you don't have a totally separate true name btw, then your full legal name would be it. I don't believe in fairies, but I still keep my middle name a secret from almost everyone; it's a fun tradition.) What I'm trying to say is... what you've suggested could very well be the case. If the Traveler had any reason to believe that presenting their "true name" could be dangerous (perhaps from this being the case in other worlds they've visited, or them having been raised with the knowledge), they would have used a "fake" or everyday name, even before learning about Irmunsul. I'm not sure if Irmunsul can be so easily tricked, though.
Traveler is still concealing information from Paimon so even then they’re not trusting of anyone but themselves. I think Traveler doesn’t make aware of their full abilities is because they’re still looking for the rest of them. Once we claim Hydro & Pyro there will be only Cryo left. By that point Traveler is likely anticipating becoming whole again with the cryo element. Personally I think that’s when the Traveler makes it known who he is, because he’ll be fully restored. And closer to unifying with their sibling.
Even if Mihiyo asked for my personal opinion on what order for them to release the regions inside of the game, they even mentioned that even if it did occur that they specifically mentioned that it would have happened so quickly that they would not (not) have even known even took place at all. The last region that they are going to include in the game is already decided though, even before they even made the game, though. I did however for some reason knowingly knew of the name of all the seven regions of the game that they were going to be including eventually inside of the game as well.
Honestly I just want to learn where did the Twins originally came from? Like we know that they have traveled far behind Teyvat in their lives but where exactly are they from? I remember reading somewhere that all of the current Mihoyo games all share the same universe which might play a role in all of this, but maybe I am wrong regarding that. In the meantime I’m just enjoying the sights and seeing what this land offers us in the future.
@@dontshitontravelermains5498 That theory was kinda confirmed when Honkai Devs said that in one of the cutscene panels the dragon that was seen was Dvalin as Otto was looking through the various bubble universes.
@@thehalfdeadguy7563 Yeah Teyvat is just one of them on that tree but it makes me question if Marana is Teyvat’s Honkai since every place with humans supposedly have them
There are some hints provided, particularly in the Sword of Descension description and various dialogues. The twins seem to have grown up on a world not too different from Teyvat/Earth, noting that they even used to watch beetles fight as children and that Venti's eyes remind them of the sky above their home town. However, their homeworld was doomed, and despite fighting against that inevitable calamity, they failed to stop their world from being destroyed. We know from the Abyss sibling's dialogue with the Traveler that the purpose of their journey across the sea of stars is to find a new home, implying that for some reason or another every world they visited prior (and at least so far, Teyvat too) wasn't suitable for them to settle down on.
I think part of the reason Traveler might keep quiet about their full backstory is because...it's kinda insane, when you think about it. I mean, imagine if he was 100% up front right out the gate, and first arrived at Mondstadt. He encounters Amber who makes a reasonable inquiry about who they are, and the Extrovert Traveler just infodumps on her about being a star-exploring demigod of incalculable age, owner of lost powers the likes of which are completely alien to Teyvat, and who seeks their twin who went missing after losing a battle against some sort of native deity in hopes of escaping the prison that is this world in favor of returning to the endless expanse of space. Just saying, if I were Amber in that situation, I'd have the obvious wacko locked in a padded cell for the rest of forever.
also to note that in the Sumeru Archon Quest when we had to talk to the fortune teller and we ask about our health prospects, she says "your life shall continue on for many many tens of thousands of years" The Traveler will outlive everyone in Teyvat

I saw a theory that says that the reason the traveler hide their identity is to avoid unnecessary attachment for the ppl of teyvat since they're planning to leave teyvat. It's the same idea as "if you don't want to miss something don't give it a name"
Because when you are planet hopping alien species siblings you got to hide your identity for your own safety. About not telling your own name I actually see in a fancomic where the headcanon of this reason telling your name is a way to become attach and the twins can't afford attachment

An interesting point of view on the Traveler. I had an experience in a foreign country myself once where I was hesitant to talk to other people in public for the simple reason my accent would automatically turn every head around to staring at me. In a lot of ways Paimon, as much as she sticks out and is still rationalized away as completely normal to most people in Tehvat, makes for a very lucky buffer to most people in conversation. It was definitely a bit different when Nahida possessed the Travelers body. Can you imagine how terrifying that was to the Traveler and yet they played it off rather low key given the life and death situation. I feel that a lot was left un said about that entire experience.
Do you have a theory on why don't Fatui care about traveler, like, at all? They don't want to recruit them, interrogate them, kill, them, nothing. Same for abyss. Nobody cares about traveler, yet people cheer them everywhere they go at the same time? Why is that?
The Fatui it appears may want them as allies, but don't really care [yet].. I say so because the Fatui every time we see them look at us or treat us as "something there" (particularly clear in the Inazuma fight with La Signora, she treated the challenge as if it were a side thing not a major issue) that may or may not be trouble to them. If the Traveler manages to solve more problems, etc. and in theory make both them and the other nations allies to the Fatui plans they may show more attention as not making the traveler into a Fatui but as an ally that is helpful to the cause [like becoming an honorary knight in Mondstatd]. The Abyss twin seems to be more a *this person believes in/helps our cause so we'll use them case than the traveler (twin who awoke 500 years later) going into and uniting the 7 nations like we actively do.
In the chasm(or golden apple islands i dunno) quest, the fatui soldiers did mention that they whould be aware of a golden traveler and his/her white flying pet. Maybe there were assaination attempts(tho not shown directly in story due to age restrictions and data minimization) and the traveler fought them back effectively?
The Abyss Order has a very good reason not to seek us out. Our sibling wants us to continue travelling until we've learned the truth of the world for ourselves, and neither recruiting nor killing us would be conducive to that. For the Fatui, we've mostly met fairly unimportant members who are too arrogant to view us as a threat to their organisation. I do believe the more powerful ones are keeping an eye on us though similarly to our sibling, just waiting for us to realize... whatever it is we're supposed to realize on our journey, and then choose a side. They're powerful enough to kill us easily if we choose the "wrong" side. But we're also powerful enough to be a very good ally if we did side with them, so killing us now would be premature. But neither party seems concerned about us potentially dying while opposing one of their own plots, so they're not trying to protect us, either. Our sibling probably feels we don't need protection. As for the Fatui... the fact that their "debt collectors" attack us on sight and tell us "you can't run from debt" is a pretty good indication that they ARE trying to kill us; we owe them a blood debt for killing their soldiers. They just don't think it's important enough to send a harbinger after us yet, and no one else is strong enough to kill us. And again, if we manage to dodge their low-effort assination attempts long enough, we could become a strong enough ally to them in the future that it makes up for all the insignia farming we've been doing. ^.^'
The traveller can use all elements at once and the evidence is in the childe boss fight cutscene traveller uses anemo to block childe sword and geo to move childe back
And we have never seen him/her use it again.... I feel like the traveler is trying not to show much of his/her power while in reality he/she can use multiple elements at the same time
because he's still learning his powers. Who is to say that his old abilities were not of elemental origion at all and this is entirely new to him. So he just did a bit of experimenting or at least growing accustomed to a new fighting style/set of power rules
@@kibasin7230 We have, in the cutscene where we break Nahida's mind barrier the Traveler's clothes glow with dendro but they're using anemo. I wish they'd use their electro superspeed more often though, would have been cool to see in the Scaramouche fight cutscene.
I'm interested to know their home planets government and how things function and weather or not they were able to have true world unity. But also they seem to grasp a good hold on how tech works.. Which makes me wonder if they are far more advance then they let on.
In the quest were the traveler needs to fight in Beidou tournament the traveler use multiple elements too. I went with Geo and midway the traveler change to Anemo, even Kazuha gets surprised about it.
In the new quest when Lilopaur asks whether Traveler is a prince(ss) there is an option to say "Yes, but-" but I guess that because there are two options it might not be canon that he saod that and it's also possible that Jeht didn't take Traveler seriously.
Traveler has always struck me as someone who doesn’t share much unless asked. I’ve noticed that he (I play Aether) will usually be upfront about his origins most of the time when he’s asked directly. If they don’t ask, he won’t tell and if the person asking doesn’t know he’s from another world, they won’t ask in the first place
To me, the reason why the Traveler is hesitant to stay in Teyvat is less got to do with being a "threat to their wellbeing", but more of "meeting as little people as possible so that we don't miss each other as much when I eventually leave with my sibling, and I don't know if I can come back here when I leave" sort of vibe.
I've been wondering... If the memories of people of Teyvat are determined solely on the information registered on Irminsul, in which the Traveler can't be recorded... Then how come people actually remember them? Wouldn't they come through some kind of alternative timeline any time they try to remember any important event in which the Traveler was involved? 🗿
It is like a book refered in another book, Like imagine there is a book on lions you"xyz" , that you don't have , but you have another book on cats where it is mentioned that a good book on lions is"xyz" and there are also a brief description of that book. Now you brought few more books , "tigers", "deers","zebras" none of these are "lions" but each one has a brief explanation of it. That's how teyvat remembers the traveller, though Irminsel do not have any direct record of the traveller, it has several indirect records through the people of teyvat
That makes sense. But wouldn't the sibling also have indirect references recorded by people in Teyvat? Or is the information too hidden to be found(like Scarramoo's memory)?
@@mosbby4135 "indirect" means: Irminsul records everything that happens to Teyvat. If someone talks to the Traveler, everything this person says and hears is recorded (from the perspective of that person), so everything the Traveler says to someone "from Teyvat" is part of Irminsul and therefore can be remembered by the people of Teyvat. It is the same for the sibling, the Abyss people, the Fatui, Hilichurls (Kaenrian People) etc. all know him/her. As far as I know the sibling not only has indirect, but also direct records inside Irminsul (meaning that at some point in time, the recording from the siblings perspective started) which leads to Nahida assuming the Sibling might be from Teyvat (which is propably not true and something else initiated the recording so it looks like the Sibling is from Teyvat, but we dont know the facts yet).
@@MarsCorporations when Scarra told the traveler he didn't find anything about the sibling, is he just... unlucky? (He could be hiding it but I trust him)
@@mosbby4135 I think Scara is just not experienced enough to find something. Its a giant database, and if there are no "in your face" search results, someone like Scara wont stand a chance. I think Nahida could dig many things up if she really takes her time and does a proper search. In the archon-quest she did look into things but it was only a quick search resulting in cloudy data she could not decipher.
I just realized that our time irl and their time in Teyvat is the same as ours. To us, it's been 2-3 years since the release of Genshin - to them it's been 2-3 years since the Traveler arrived. Now I'm happy that we didn't get a full and finished game when it released because the 2-3 years of journeying around Teyvat has been fun and exciting especially celebrating the festivals every year.
Knowledge is indeed power.. It reminds me of how we came to learn why Xiao is so loyal to Rex Lapis and how knowing someone's name held Xiao to be a slave.
Tangental thought: How much does Alice hide? What does everyone think of Alice and her "weirdness"? Of course this is harder to quantify than Traveler because far less citations and text exist about her but it is clear just like Traveler, Alice either hides or "neglects" to share everything she knows.
The Travler is esstentially hiding in plain sight, although not completely. I think Celestia and other powerful entites are aware of their presence but won't act until they feel the need to do so. As for the Traveler, I think it's a mix of survival and lack of attachment to Teyvat. As world travelers, they probably don't like getting too attached to any one world out of fear. It's also been made clear Aether really wants to get back with Lumine and leave, despite all the friends along the way. Why specifically I'm not sure. Perhaps something is wrong witht he world of Teyvat and the siblings know but their approaches to it are different. Aether has expressed he doesn't want to be a hero in Inazuma and likely just wants to leave while Lumine may actually want to help Teyvat.
Is it a wonder the Traveler wants to leave, when their first experience in this world was an attack that resulted in the traumatic separation from their twin? Teyvat is dangerous, and the powers that be in this world are hostile. As for the Abyss Prince/Princess, they say themselves that they also want to leave with the Traveler. There are only two things that they need to do before that: defeat Celestia/the Heavenly Principles and restore Khaenri'ah.
Are you really surprised, that the Twins want to leave that world asap? Teyvat has a tree that f*cks up everyones memories on a whim, a massive threat from below (Abyss) and above (Celestia), an insane goddess that wants to destroy the other nations and apparently also the entire world (Tsaritsa) and many more things that makes this world a massive hellscape. Considering that the two of them just want to find a peaceful world to settle down, this world just isn't it.
3:34 : SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED OR PLAY Undertale !! It's interresting to note that it's only in the True Pacifique run that the name of Frisk is not only mention but also will replace the name we gave to the fallen human.... but it's not totaly discarded as in the same path it's said that it's not the real name of Frisk but was of the first fallen human... but we learn later that their real name is Chara and that naming the human we play as this name it will said : The true name...so using this situation of an exemple of : we name this character [insert name] without talking/mention their canon is alright but also it's closer to the the traveler situation than an exemple to show that the traveler is some sort of exception ( By the way ... i'm just happy you mention Undertale so that's why i'm dumping informations xD )
I have this headcanon that the reason why the Traveller doesn't use their real name for two reasons. One, they are still learning the Teyvat language. Two, their name is from their own "unique language" a.k.a chinese or latin and cannot be easily translated. In the EN translation their names are Aether and Lumine, while the CN are Kong and Ying.
You.. don't need to speak the language to understand someone's name If a dude tells you their name is gabriel you're not gonna be all confused like "what is that, what even is that, i don't speak your weird language" because you don't understand hebrew and don't know it's a word that means god is my strenght, you just head a dude telling you their name. Names don't need translating unles you're discussing their meaning
@@PizzaRatJC you are right but there are historical cases in our world where, despite knowing the 'original' name of a person, locals gave them a new name anyway for several reasons. For example, William Adams (the historical figure behind the main character of the videogame Nioh), who was known as Miura Anjin by the people in Japan. "Adams had a wife Mary Hyn and two children back in England, but Ieyasu forbade the Englishman to leave Japan. He was presented with two swords representing the authority of a Samurai. The Shogun decreed that William Adams the pilot was dead and that Miura Anjin (三浦按針), a samurai, was born. According to the shōgun, this action "freed" Adams to serve the Shogunate permanently, effectively making Adams' wife in England a widow. (Adams managed to send regular support payments to her after 1613 via the English and Dutch companies.) Adams also was given the title of hatamoto (bannerman), a high-prestige position as a direct retainer in the shōgun's court." Or Caravaggio, the famous painter, whose real name was Michelangelo Merisi. Caravaggio was the city where he lived.
Paimon is the best friend of the travelers, they spent most time with her in Teyvat. However, even her, didn't know the full of the travelers. There's at least 2 things, the traveler lied to her. First being their real name, and second is they were been to Khaenri'ah. They even doing their own investigate, while not telling paimon anything about their true intention
Like all the books we gather, I doubt Paimon would see why we need to have them (figure out what happened), seeing as how she herself says she doesn't like reading.
When I think of the Traveler, I think of the 'Prime Directive' in Star Trek (or the 'Non Interference Directive' in The Orville), which is, do not divulge sensitive information on underdeveloped worlds (in those show is to avoid tampering with their development). The Twins are traveling the Universe (Multiverse ?) presumably in search of a suitable world where to live (the few information we have about them hint of the destruction of their own original world) but it's not wise to be open about who you are if you are not sure this is the world where you are going to live in the future - and even then, would you REALLY told the natives that you come from beyond the stars and you are a 'Fallen Angel', a 'Divine Being' or an alien life form to begin with ? Teyvat proved to be a hostile world to the Traveler and in contrast to the Abyss Sibling, they already expressed their will to leave after being reunited with their kin. They are giving the bare minimum information about themselves just to stay incognito (or at least not to be too much under the spotlight), their reluctance about doing grand feats of heroics is to avoid being too known. Yet again, their good nature is stronger in most cases so they end up being local heroes anyway - the only thing they can to to lessen the damage is to avoid saying TOO MUCH about themselves.
@@MeltsLikeCaramel That is very true already what was written up already about this topic so far. Anyone living in a world being expected of them to act and live in the way that they are expected to cannot expect to live a regular care free life as well. After all, anyone simply trying to naturally and normally blend into society; most of the time is often concealing select information about themselves anyways, either already mentioning it already to other people in another time or location or is only able to comment about the topic at hand only whenever it occurs as well.
Anyone more familiar with the topic that I just mentioned would likely mention very similar to what I wrote up as well, as relevant to their current viewpoint/perspective as well their writing style/current(?) capabilities at the then current time period as well.
I also HONESTLY believe that even one of the domains inside of Genshin Impact even directly mentioned that the traveler HAD to be COMPLETELY ALONE without PAIMON to even be able to enter it as well, as even the female traveler admitted to wanting to escape from being around her from time to time as well.
Quite possibly maybe even it was one of the thoughts that maybe she was thinking of to herself when she was alone with Paimon by the fire side, NOT MENTIONING it because of the fact that she was already well-aware that anything mentioned will/might likely get used inside of the public release of the game/reviewed later on by the company as well. Also they were already well-aware of the fact that they were being oberserved from afar as well. I am also bringing this fact up because of the fact that what you are currently doing/observing can and will likely get used against you in someway, shape or form by the right authorities as well.
It makes sense for the traveler to not want to build a strong relationship to teyvat for multiple reasons. Self sustainace because they almost die nigh constantly, they've seen what happens to unwanted visitors or teyvat's own people, they help but aren't helped much if at all, etc. Selfness because they don't want to built relationships they know will last. They know they'll travel to another world and they as immortal god like beings to make any sort of meaningfull relationship with mortals would hurt both them and the people. They've seen many worlds and traveled more. They've presumably seen entire universes fall into dispare. They don't have the abilty to settle down anymore. They know they will have to leave so risking both emotional, physical and spiritual pain and suffering isn't worth it. So getting attached to anyone but they're sibling is a risk they've learned isn't worth it.
We really need to find out who the traveller was before ascending and getting block by the sustainer. We have very little context for that in game and itd really make the storyline feel more cohesive.
Since Teyvat is a bubble world from the Quantum Sea (In Honkai Impact Otto see Dvalin in a screen). Bubble worlds aren't very stable in the first place and they eventually disappear because they aren't connected to the imaginary tree. Most of the bubble worlds are just data and from the archon quest of sumeru, Teyvat has the same behavior. I think that is one of the biggest reasons why the Traveler wants to save his sister and leave Teyvat. Traveling through the Quantum Sea is very dangerous (the abyss is a joke compare to the Quantum Sea) and from what we know the only capable of doing that are Valkyries rank A equivalent.
Honestly it would've been really interesting if when naming/editing your traveler's name, it makes you incapable of changing it to Aether/Lumine (kind of like how you can't name Wanderer certain names like Scaramouche anymore). I feel like it would really hammer home the idea that the traveler's actively trying to hide their true identity, or really make moments like the abyss twin calling you your real name stand out even more
Traveler: "I need to hide my identity so I don't attract the wrong attention" Also the Traveler: "Hello fellow stranger, why yes I would like my millionth side quest"
Vision Hunt Decree: give your vision NOW!!! Lumine/Aether: i dont have one Vision Hunt Decree: !?!?! *proceeds to beat up the entire army of shogunate warriors* Everyone in the backround: *Confused Screaming*
The matter of fact is that they are a canvas for memory. They are able to keep the memories that are now long gone. Zhongli has even mentioned the Traveler will outlive everybody with the memory they have made. I never thought of that though. The Traveler is immortal, but who knows about that and how much do the Fatui actually know? I feel like after their many encounter with the Fatui and the big target they have on their back, they decide to hold back information even those to whom are the closest to the Traveler. You see the many bonds that are made and I can pin point the characters closest to the Traveler. Heck, even Venti calls them his best friend. Also, if anybody were to understand about concealing identities, it’s Venti. The Traveler also chooses who to keep closer than others. They have a heart and they care a lot about others, being able to see the good even in those that once hurt them, like Scaramouche/The Wanderer. They also show a level of being naïve and I think it’s because of that. Let’s hope nobody is using them for their the good of “insert antagonist”. Also, people keep saying Paimon will betray them and is the unknown goddess, (I disagree. I think she’s a forgotten archon or something but different story), but if that’s true that would break my heart.
your discussion abut the traveler not know how thier powers work in this world makes me believe the traveler may have not actually lost thier power but have to re-learn how to use them so by using each elemental it gives them greater understanding of how thier power works in tevat that explains why in certain circumstances they can use thier full power ie liyue and inuzuma archon quests
I think you to be most correct. Of course. The question would be.. Alone how powerful is their race. And can they truely be killed? As I said in another part of the comment section. They seem able to die.. But I believe them to be fully immortal.
@@MeltsLikeCaramel canonically the traveler has never been afraid of dying or any threat of injury or death i doubt they really have been anywhere close to being in trouble i always bring up the fact that we tanked the one shot kill sword atk from raiden and got up seconds later completely unharmed makes me believe the archons likely are way too weak to kill the traveler
Honestly I wonder if their current body is like, their real appearence. The travelers are stars, so maybe they don't know how their powers work in this kind of body yet, and well, they didn't have a chance to truly try it out to the full potential because they got wacked by the sustainer, and now their powers aren't what they once were yet.
You may be right... It would also be interesting to see how the universe would look like with star's and planets who do indeed think, feel, and is able to travel.
I also think that the reason they might feel a bit hesitant with being in Teyvat has to do with home sickness. The traveler has been through a lot and while they made some good friends, they ultimately just want to return home with their sibling to rest after what they have been through. returning home is something I'm sure is a normal reaction after fighting many gods and seeing innocent people die around them.
As much as the traveler could see tevat as a prison, bad place, etc. it could also be the traveler sees some sort of fun or interest with it, not every world you get so depowerd. Just depends on how long till the frustration becomes to large for being away from their sibling
This reminds me of the quest where you fight the nameless samurai! He asks the traveler where they’re from (as he is discussing how he doesn’t know where his sword style came from) and the options are “…” and “I’m just a traveler.” It felt very strange, as It had a whole cut scene (I’m still doing the quest so there might be more to it)
That certainly sounds like something straight out of a samurai movie. "I'm just an old blind traveler", and next scene, he cuts up a few dozen enemies.
Being the one that only remembers the actual truth and Irminsul wiping people's memories of actual history doesn't really help either. That brings a special kind of loneliness to The Traveler. And not even their Abyss Sibling would be able to relate, since their part of Irminsul. You wanna know what I'd find interesting? If our closest companion with enough friendship points wants to leave with them, or wants the Traveler to stay in Teyvat. There's concepts of that in fanfics already. No matter how hard the Traveler would try to keep their distance, there's bound to be that one person that remains unsatisfied and wants to get to know them more personally. And the Traveler would be unable to push them away.
I don't think traveler will allow it to happen. We already see it happen with ayaka. Ayaka clearly have romantic interest in traveler but they reject her in most polite way possible.
@@ahagotcha Yeah, pretty much. But even so. The circumstances with Ayaka were easy to handle. I doubt the Traveler had forgot that Ayaka basically manipulated them subtly to help Inazuma.
@@ahagotcha True. But they never got separated like this before. Sure, maybe they've dealt way worse in other worlds, maybe they had fought Eldritch Abominations. But due to them being referred to as Travelers, and how they both tried to leave Teyvat when shit hit the fan/the Cataclysm. Maybe the other worlds they traveled were tame/mundane.
damn, i suffer for being brazilian, most videos of Genshin from Brazil are just leaks of characters, to understand the videos of people from other countries that really talk about the game I had to learn to interpret and read in English, But thanks For such good content!
English is a old and ever changing language.. I believe that's why most say it's hard to learn. Because it's never truely the same as it once was the night before. Or I think that's how that saying would go?
A neat detail is that the name you pick for Traveler at the start of the game is implied to be an alias, because the Abyss twin still uses your real name. Traveler really trusts noone.
The only issue with this is in regards to the traveler using a fake name. In the Chinese script the other twin doesn't call you by any name instead opting to just use brother/sister. The only reason the english script uses names is because that's what the Japanese script uses which the english translators are actually translating off of. I always thought it was weird why no one in the room questioned why the traveler gave them a fake name and it would seem the reason why is that the name isn't fake and all of this was just lost in translation.
It's because in China calling an older sibling by their name is consider impolite. If you choose Lumine you'll hear Aether calling you "Ying", but if you choose Aether, Lumine will call you "Gege".
One of the questions I definitely asked the company directly was something related to what name the character should be called in the game. They responded back with something like your name does in fact matter what is called in the game, and you should pick something related to how you will/might eventually be playing the game as well. They refused to awnser which names TO USE for the main character male and female, except that they said that certain cutscenes might/would be completely different in the game as well.
Also they appear to be tracking your spending habits, as well as analyzing and confronting the person playing the game related to the issues surrounding their spending money as well. We did infact experience it ourselves inside of the game as well. I was thinking something very similar already to the question involving the characters name choice that you select as well, I was just wanting to get the question answered directly from the source for a more reliable source to make it be more believable in the future for other people to read as well. Just from hearing that one response back from them directly, I already had a very vague idea of how many people would be playing the game incorrectly in the future as well. If the game does anything for anybody, it should make them better aware of how to spend their own money as well. Mihiyo intentionally placed stones with money in them to make people playing the game get back at least some of the mora being used up to that point in time as well.
Even the mora being gathered by the daily login calendar slowly builds up as well, as you do not eventually have to spend the money once you reach a certain goal that you should preferably set for yourself as well.
Idk if this is a reliable theory but the fact that the archons decide to confide in the traveler although them not knowing where he/she comes from can be bc they were either told to do so (maybe Celestia sort of ordered them that) or bc they have already encountered another being of the same kind as the traveler. Zhongli believes truthfully that the traveler is free from erosion, but the traveler did not state that in any ocasion (maybe I'm wrong, I don't remember clearly).
Undertale spoiler: The character you name in Undertale isn’t Frisk, it’s Chara. A big plot point is the revelation that Frisk has had their own name, separate from yours, the whole time!
@@lkimberly2064 If you do genocide, Chara introduces herself as the name you chose at the beginning: "Greetings, I am ". In true pacifist, Asriel also refers to Chara as the name chosen. I havent done soulless pacifist yet, so I cant really say how it changes there. Either way, Im pretty sure its canon no matter what that Charas name is the name you pick, and Frisk is always gonna be Frisk.
That is probably what the company WANTS YOU the player to be thinking about the characters as well. Given that the company was DEFINITELY already a valid business by that point in time by the looks of it, if the company DIRECTLY mentioned something about a talk being done very similar to what I was doing in the future, they probably written something up publicly somewhere hopefully prior to them even actually them making the game as well. The company probably seemed to equally intelligent about what they knew already, probably even likely thinking that a game based off of Greek Mythology was already in the works already as well. They probably even helped out Genshin Impact probably a bit before they started to make their game as well.
Genshin Impact is definitely partially shaped into what it is now becuase of other select companies also giving them feedback and data through the private accessible part of the game channels as well.
Aether is my favorite character, I'm so excited to get more information about the traveller in the future :D Also I love the relationship between traveller and paimon
It was huge.. And probably the ends of what we'll find out, with likely a ton of other data and facts between what we know and that. In example, Liyue and Inazuma lore revealed so much about what damage Teyvat suffered from the event 500 years ago but it is only in Sumeru we get any details beyond the damage to the surface and society it caused.
I mean how much of a statistical anomaly that there are characters in Teyvat that look like people in Honkai's earth, how much of an anomaly is it when this is the case for every world, like in Honkai star rail? Something funky is going on in the universe causing all this. Also, the Traveler may hide their identity to hide from an unknown power that could threaten them, it's probably why they don't want to stay in teyvat. They've been through enough worlds that they know the arrival of such power is not a matter of if, but when.
!!!SPOILERS FOR FONTAINE!!! Now that Fontaine is out the Traveler is now well known by the people heck even Furina/Fokolore went herself to see if the traveler had arrived in Fontaine idk but Traveler is getting some really high popularity
Hmmmmmmmm given the nature that they travel to different worlds it could be only a few things. - 1.) Someone / something is chasing them so they can only stay for a short period between worlds. - 2.) Assuming their immortal, the reason they arms length everyone is because their immortal. It's difficult and painful to see someone you get too close age and die while you live on. - 3.) Due to the nature of their powers one can assume that they can't use it to a certain degree, or it may lead to disaster / destroy the world their in. - Those are a few ides I got. - Another point of view is the fact they saw the 500 year destruction. I could see them being traumatize by it. The traveler main goal is to find their twin and leave. Though they manage to love being with the people of Teyvet. One may think that the trauma still lingers so they wish to run away to forget it.
What interests me more is what will happen to the traveller and Paimons friendship? Because if you saw Paimon has some sort of an issue when traveller leaves her side (recently: in Latern Rite). And why didn’t Paimon ask Nahida about her memories in Irminsul?
I would say maybe Aether and Lumine (and their counterparts) are words spoken in the twins native tongue that isn’t easy to replicate, which is why Paimon doesn’t refer to us as such. I don’t think anyone refers to the Abyss Twin by their name either. Though I guess it’s to keeps things consistent regardless of which twin you chose. As for the general secrecy I sure it’s just that their focused at the tasked at hand but wouldn’t mind letting people know if they asked. That said while most of the main cast probably wouldn’t bat an eye how would most react if you told them you’re from another world. Probably how mondstat does to fishl lol. It could be an attachment issue too. Once they find their sibling I think the goal would be to return home with no way to return to teyvat.
I call my character by his actual name "Aether" because I hate imposing myself in video games. It's Aether's story, not mine, so his character should keep the same name. That's my thought, anyway.
I think that there is a voice line where the traveler says to themselves that they can feel their powers coming back to them. is celestia losing power maybe?
Even tho paimon is the closest confident of the traveler, there have been some ocasions where paimon is separated from the traveler, either physically or mentally, and paimon just stays in the dark about all of it unless she experiences the same things or the traveler tell her what happened, for example in the inazuma archon quest, paimon literally never enters the plane of euthymia aka the realm of consciousness of Ei, until she enters the realm of makoto's consciousness in raiden's second story quest, or when in the sumeru archon quest scaramouche talks with the traveler with their mind and paimon can't hear that conversation, which i think is something hoyoverse is doing on purpose for later content
About names, maybe whatever name you give the Traveler is their real name. While "Aether" and "Lumine" are nicknames they have for each other as siblings. Or maybe both are nicknames or pseudonyms. Because they don't want to introduce themselves as "Primordial One, the progenitor god from beyond the stars! *dramatic music*" every time they meet new people, but as children of a major deity, they have names like that.
I always thought the twins didn’t bother telling anyone their name because their whole thing is they’re not planning to stay here, hell they’re only here because they got jumped. After they find their sibling they’re going to move onto the next world.
Well, travelers are called "prince" and "princess" by both the Abyss guys and the genie Liloupar. They are probably the prince and princess of Khaenriah and the now Abyss people.
I think it is pretty sus how Venti seems to know so much more about the Traveller and their origins and powers than anyone else in Teyvat. Like even the very first time you actually speak to him, he already knows the Traveller's name (or pseudonym at least) and seems pretty familiar with them. Maybe it is has something to do with Venti's close relation to the missing God of Time? If Paimon is actually the God of Time, as some believe, then that would explain a lot.
Yeah I think the traveler just wants to ditch Teyvat and get back to finding the item they (and their sibling) were tasked with. Thus completing their mission. Sadly I think said item is either in the hands of the Tsaritsa or somewhere in the Abyss. Anyway, good video!
And since it's been 500 years.. We don't know if their people and world still exist. They might even be the last of their kind assuming this being is far powerful then them or assuming it's not a being it could possibly be some sort of end of the world event.
guys, stop this thing with the name, in anime Aether/Lumine won't have another names other than their own, it's just a game thing and has nothing to do with plot or Traveler's personality
Maybe, maybe not.. I hear in other languages the 'names' applied regardless of what the user picks is something like family nicknames (older brother, little sister, etc) or something honorary (there being only 2 of them they wouldn't need a special name to know what it meant).
This comment is honestly such a mood since Sumeru has me putting more effort into understanding it than I'm doing for my exams😭
can relate with this on a spiritual level
Thanks for advertising the discord ;>
@@samueltheblonde I don't think they may leave....unless the sibling agrees, tbh it seems they enjoy the festivals, learning teyvat even beyond their sibling, but in the end of the day what their sibling says...goes....its why when asked if they will stay, they give ambiguous responses or say unless their sibling says otherwise
They prob don't hate everyone or hate every nation, but it isn't their home, it's their sibling and even if he cares about other characters, they are always loyal to their sibling first and foremost
@@partygamingz3332 It's inevitable that they'll leave eventually, because in all likelihood they will outlive Teyvat and all life on it. The Traveler must have some forbidden knowledge since he has traveled from world to world
Yea but the real question is why the traveller hasn't ever talked about other worlds in voice lines or in any quest like yea now he wouldn't talk about the worlds because he knows the existence of forbidden knowledge but isn't weird how he hasn't every talked about it in the past

I think the Traveler almost never shows "power" because standing out too much is in the way of finding the sibling. Imagine in Sumeru, we would fight every enemy with "trapping them inside geo walls while throwing lightningtornadoes at them". In a matter of seconds the whole world would look at us.
we ignore the multiple feats that already happened
To many in Teyvat the numerous feats would in time become a jumbled memory: say by the time of Natlan or Shneznaya only individuals involved may remember the specific feats- while others especially who don't know the traveler, would only get a general idea of their power (as even the people of Liyue in the battle that destroyed the Jade Palace 1.0 would know to some extent the power the traveler showed but not necessarily understand that the various adepti, etc. on the platform lent their power temporarily to the traveler which is how/why the traveler did what they were said to do).
we ignore the national level title given to him
@@vincentdreemurr*titles
Unless if something else happened in the future like the travellers decided to lose their power completely and stay in teyvat or something.
Which is why it would be interesting to understand why our sibling decided to get involved with tevats politics
Also about his age, at the end of zhonglis first archon quest, and so on whenever talking about the traveler being a witness, that he is fully confident the traveler will outlive all of teyvat and himself, without fear of erosion, meaning he knows that they are immortal (can't age) at the very least which is one of the reasons why the traveler is a witness
Also one of the dialogue options in the sumeru archon quest with the fortune teller, the npc says the traveler will live for 10,000 years to which paimon agrees as accurate.

They are intentionally not placing them inside of the game immediately because of the fact that the cutscenes are noticeably stand out among the other cutscenes in the game along with the fact that people playing the game will not likely understand the context without seeing the information prior related to them as well.

i like to think that traveler hides their identity and remains secretive even with their friends so that they don't get too attached to a world and find it hard to leave the world and people behind once the time comes

Its just sad that most people don't look past the very thin surface of traveler being a supposed self insert, even though they're so obviously not. Aether and lumine are pretty much my favorite genshin characters and i love their lore so much
FINALLY another Traveler enthusiast! It really makes me sad when people say the Traveler have almost no personality when I immediately fell in love with Lumine at the start of the game
if Traveller was a real self-insert, we'd be able to switch to first person perspective ;)
I would also like to point out that Dain heard your sibling call you by name during the quest so there are two Teyvatans who know their name.
If the scenario is like this:
"Paimon saw Scaramouche accidentally broke the vase" then it would be a different case the time Scaramouche alters the Irminsul.
After alteration:
Paimon saw (replacement: any character that is present at that time) accidentally broke the vase
@@Wei06177 she broke it because of Scaramouche. But now she has no memory of breaking it at all, when Irminsul should have replaced the breaking's cause with something else
This either means Paimon also follows different rules or Irminsul is flawed in some way. That or the writers just missed thinking about it, which happens.
I also noticed that the traveler kept everyone around them at arm length. They're nice and friendly, they hear out the playable characters woes but never really talk about their own struggles and never really confide to others
Even when they're clearly suffering enough that they dreamed about abyss herald taunting them, they didn't talk about it, not even with Paimon.
The existence of a ventifucker25 existing in teyvat also implies that there was previously 24 other ventifuckers
No, 25. There's ventifucker as well without the number.

the traveler isn't that much of a self insert if sometimes I disapprove of his response especially in the lasts archons quest
@@darkreunion7882 i mean yeah but hes enough of a blank slate Generally

That makes so much sense.
The traveller is probably not thinking THAT much, specially since we didn't even know what was an irminsul before the Sumeru questline
I don't believe in fairies, but I still keep my middle name a secret from almost everyone; it's a fun tradition.)
What I'm trying to say is... what you've suggested could very well be the case.
Yeah the 3 lasts regions are coming
Oh yeah, the “Genshin Impact is one of bubble universe from Honkai Impact” theory.
@@dontshitontravelermains5498 That theory was kinda confirmed when Honkai Devs said that in one of the cutscene panels the dragon that was seen was Dvalin as Otto was looking through the various bubble universes.
@@azalea9409 The Devs have long since confirmed that Teyvat is in another universe on the Imaginary Tree (Hoyo's Multiverse).
In short, such a Traveler would be very similar to Fishl.
also to note that in the Sumeru Archon Quest when we had to talk to the fortune teller and we ask about our health prospects, she says "your life shall continue on for many many tens of thousands of years"
The Traveler will outlive everyone in Teyvat
Which makes me wonder if their people can truely die. They seem like they can die.. But I have a feeling the siblings people are truely immortal.
@@MeltsLikeCaramel we don't know if there are any of 'their people'. if they're cosmic twins, they could be one of a kind.

Kazuha does too
@@Ultrakilling wait he does? when did he see the Traveler using multiple elements at the same time? Genuinely curious because it might have slipped out of my memory

If you don't consider Paimon a person they yeah probably
Navia too now
I saw a theory that says that the reason the traveler hide their identity is to avoid unnecessary attachment for the ppl of teyvat since they're planning to leave teyvat.
And even if they do find out.. Starting a war by invading their home is impossible.. Since it was already destroyed a long time ago.
@@MeltsLikeCaramel Likely probably every thought/comment here is likely thoughts that they wanted to mention on another video, but was unable to either because the environment was not right; or more than likely the right comment was not posted on there to prompt it to come out as well, myself included as well.
@@Eznet089
You could make the case that every fatui camp attacks us because they recognize us
They've taken a bit of an interest. But i'd say they wanna wait for their power to grow.
It is like a book refered in another book,
Like imagine there is a book on lions you"xyz" , that you don't have , but you have another book on cats where it is mentioned that a good book on lions is"xyz" and there are also a brief description of that book.
Scara seems to be one of the few who know the most about the Traveler- he and Nahida. Scara also is aware what the travler sibling looks like
so do dain, pierro and capitano.
Some people think that she might be the 3rd descender

( By the way ... i'm just happy you mention Undertale so that's why i'm dumping informations xD )
You.. don't need to speak the language to understand someone's name
If a dude tells you their name is gabriel you're not gonna be all confused like "what is that, what even is that, i don't speak your weird language" because you don't understand hebrew and don't know it's a word that means god is my strenght, you just head a dude telling you their name.

(Adams managed to send regular support payments to her after 1613 via the English and Dutch companies.) Adams also was given the title of hatamoto (bannerman), a high-prestige position as a direct retainer in the shōgun's court."
Or Caravaggio, the famous painter, whose real name was Michelangelo Merisi.
How did you know my genshin name is venti****er25?
But it would be hard for them.. Since even then no matter what, the Universe and Multiverse and all verse's alone have far to many dangers.

Deep man 😔
from the seems of it the traveler has been lying based on how we broke down in the new story quest
So interesting...
This could also explain the whole fake sky idea. If that fits into it.
Mfw The Abyss IS the Sea of Quanta.
Honestly it would've been really interesting if when naming/editing your traveler's name, it makes you incapable of changing it to Aether/Lumine (kind of like how you can't name Wanderer certain names like Scaramouche anymore). I feel like it would really hammer home the idea that the traveler's actively trying to hide their true identity, or really make moments like the abyss twin calling you your real name stand out even more
Traveler: "I need to hide my identity so I don't attract the wrong attention"
Also the Traveler: "Hello fellow stranger, why yes I would like my millionth side quest"

Lumine/Aether: i dont have one
Vision Hunt Decree: !?!?!

I'd like to hear your forgotten archon theory if you'd care to type it out pls lol
your discussion abut the traveler not know how thier powers work in this world makes me believe the traveler may have not actually lost thier power but have to re-learn how to use them
so by using each elemental it gives them greater understanding of how thier power works in tevat
that explains why in certain circumstances they can use thier full power ie liyue and inuzuma archon quests
I think you to be most correct. Of course. The question would be.. Alone how powerful is their race. And can they truely be killed? As I said in another part of the comment section. They seem able to die.. But I believe them to be fully immortal.
@@MeltsLikeCaramel canonically the traveler has never been afraid of dying or any threat of injury or death
i doubt they really have been anywhere close to being in trouble
i always bring up the fact that we tanked the one shot kill sword atk from raiden and got up seconds later completely unharmed
makes me believe the archons likely are way too weak to kill the traveler
Honestly I wonder if their current body is like, their real appearence. The travelers are stars, so maybe they don't know how their powers work in this kind of body yet, and well, they didn't have a chance to truly try it out to the full potential because they got wacked by the sustainer, and now their powers aren't what they once were yet.
You may be right... It would also be interesting to see how the universe would look like with star's and planets who do indeed think, feel, and is able to travel.
But.. It is important to note they did come from some sort of planet. So even the star form might not be their true form.
The traveler has a permanent spot on my team and it will stay that way until I get banned.
Surprising now that the Traveller told Yoi that they was separated from their sibling by a god
He asks the traveler where they’re from (as he is discussing how he doesn’t know where his sword style came from) and the options are “…” and “I’m just a traveler.”
It felt very strange, as It had a whole cut scene (I’m still doing the quest so there might be more to it)
That certainly sounds like something straight out of a samurai movie. "I'm just an old blind traveler", and next scene, he cuts up a few dozen enemies.
I find it interesting that Dainsleif called out the Abyss sibling's actual name.
Traveller never mentioned that her siblings work for abyss , to anyone and the moment he mentioned that u know what will happen.

Aether: Huh, I'm the new kid on the block around here. I need to have a pseudonym stat. Well, ventifucker25 sounds nice.
They do call your name if you are using lumine tho
I love your traveller vids so much its so rare to see someone go in depth on the travellers identity
Idk if this is a reliable theory but the fact that the archons decide to confide in the traveler although them not knowing where he/she comes from can be bc they were either told to do so (maybe Celestia sort of ordered them that) or bc they have already encountered another being of the same kind as the traveler. Zhongli believes truthfully that the traveler is free from erosion, but the traveler did not state that in any ocasion (maybe I'm wrong, I don't remember clearly).
a question i have is why doesn’t genshin try and prevent players naming themselves aether or lumine
because this whole thing about Traveler "hiding" their names are just made up by playerbase, watch they will use their real names in anime
Just to leave whether Traveler hides their name or not to player choice, I suppose.
@@olgabutorina4156 the game directly tell you to pick a nickname in the game
Undertale spoiler:
The character you name in Undertale isn’t Frisk, it’s Chara. A big plot point is the revelation that Frisk has had their own name, separate from yours, the whole time!
Is that clear outside the true ending, at all? Don't they use the name you picked, or Chara, if you don't pick the pacifistic ending?
"Ah yes.....Ballsdeep69 is such a mysterious character."
Its almost as if aether and lumine are their names like barbatos or rex lapis are to zhongli or venti...
Aether is my favorite character, I'm so excited to get more information about the traveller in the future :D
Also I love the relationship between traveller and paimon
I think it's a similar case with Joker in P5, where he really only talks when it is absolutely needed, but otherwise he stays quiet.
Don't forget that the fortune teller girl in Sumeru used divination and saw that the traveler is tens of thousands of years old.
I hope you will make lore video about Khanrieah curse - from notes we can find in giant robot in desert. For me it was huge lore dump!
This was a very thought-provoking video but the comedic bit at 4:30 fucking killed me. Came outta nowhere and had me flabbergasted. Well done!
Don’t forget the birthday, travelers birthday is your birthday. Just like the name you decide to give them
I’m waiting for the Aster and Wei collab
Hmmmmmmmm given the nature that they travel to different worlds it could be only a few things.
-
1.) Someone / something is chasing them so they can only stay for a short period between worlds.
-
2.) Assuming their immortal, the reason they arms length everyone is because their immortal.
It's difficult and painful to see someone you get too close age and die while you live on.
-
3.) Due to the nature of their powers one can assume that they can't use it to a certain degree, or it may lead to disaster / destroy the world their in.
-
Those are a few ides I got.
-
Another point of view is the fact they saw the 500 year destruction.
I could see them being traumatize by it.
The traveler main goal is to find their twin and leave.
Though they manage to love being with the people of Teyvet. One may think that the trauma still lingers so they wish to run away to forget it.
I named my traveler Aether before knowing that is their actual name. Now I role-play travel who hides his name with his name.
Lol same but I know Aether real name before, so I see it as Aether being honest about his name for once
And remember.. Their home is gone.. And perhaps their people are dead. So the only way they can learn the siblings language is be them teaching.
But even then doing that comes with it's own risk as well.
I call my character by his actual name "Aether" because I hate imposing myself in video games. It's Aether's story, not mine, so his character should keep the same name. That's my thought, anyway.
3:32
small correction- I believe in the true pacifist ending, the monsters do actually call frisk by, well, frisk
Hoyoverse doesn’t want us to know till it’s time. That’s all I got on this topic lol 😂
Lore drop of Fontaine the hype builds every second
I really want to see every character reaction to the siblings age. It will be so fun!
Yeah I think the traveler just wants to ditch Teyvat and get back to finding the item they (and their sibling) were tasked with. Thus completing their mission. Sadly I think said item is either in the hands of the Tsaritsa or somewhere in the Abyss.
Anyway, good video!
Or in Celestia..
