    I've learned a lot from you about guitars. So much so that I've ordered a Martin Sinker custom shop as a 65th birthday present. To return the favor, I've been a singer for 61 of my 65 years. You have nothing to feel insecure about when it comes to singing. Your voice is right where it needs to be - I can tell from your speaking voice. Sing out and don't hold back. Breathe deeply and let it go - you have a great tenor voice. Look forward to hearing more of it. Best, and Thanks!

    When you play a Neil Young song with a Martin guitar and this guitar sounds just like Neil's, and yours does, that guitar is an absolute keeper. This particular one sounds amazing. I should disclose I own a very high end Martin D-42 with an Adirondack top, perfect Amazon rosewood back and side, beautiful flamed maple binding throughout, and torch inlay. That girl is my best friend.

    • @rayfischer7552

      That amazon rosewood makes all the difference yes? I am new to the guitar world I have only been playing for 2 or three years. I am trying to decide on. Martin purchase. I want to buy an “new” Martin D28 aged 1937? I am trying to figure out if it is worth the money. I have a D28MD now and love it but......I want that 1937 sound if it is as good as I have heard.

    • @davidharrick469
      @davidharrick469 2 года назад

      @@rayfischer7552 Before you give up on your D-28MD make sure you do an A/B comparison with a D-28 aged 1937 Authentic or the CS Authentic, you might be surprised as to how much volume and over all tone your MD might have. I was bit by the " I want bug " so I have gone a couple of times an done comparisons with the aged 1937 Authentic's, aged and non aged CS Authentic's and even shop ordered CS guitars and not a one surpassed my D-28 Marquis in tone, volume and resonance. Out of all of those new guitars I tried the one I thought sounded the best was a D-28MD. I'm not new to playing guitar, I have been at it for 45 years and own 14 acoustic's currently, so I have been around the block as they say . Make sure you test drive yours against those other ones. The D-28MD is a hell'va nice sounding Martin

      @@davidharrick469 thanks for the advice David. I have at least for now decided that until I get to be a better player I am sticking with my D28MD. I really at this rate can’t justify another Martin I simply need to practice and get better before I can really compare.

      @@rayfischer7552 Hi Ray - before you spend money on a D-42 or D-28, see if you can try playing a well-built D-18, ideally one with an Adirondack top and Adirondack braces. I think that folks who are interested in a D-28 should for sure try a D-18 before they make a decision. I am about $1,000 away from being able to buy an expensive D-18 with great specs, and I think I will enjoy having both a rosewood and mahogany Martin when I get the D-18. I am older and that probably explains why I am able to afford such great Martins. Prior to playing a high-end Martin, I played Taylors 814ce and 914ce for about 10 years. I am definitely on the Martin camp now. They have so much more character and personality compared with Taylors. You will feel "one" with your Martin. You will adore her to death. She will be a "she" to you, an elegant lady who will feed your soul and who will deserve all your respect.

    Jeremy... One of these Carpathian top D-42 Custom's showed up at Guitar Center in Clearview, Tx MINT, and being 300 miles away I couldn't go try it out, and knowing zero about Carpathian tops I was reluctent to order it. So, I googled "carpathian tops", read what I could find, and then looked for video reviews. Wasn't expecting anything being as only 50 were made, and found your video. First, I've watched several of your vids in the past and LOVE them. Your enthusiasm and excitement is infectious, as is your sense of humor. Anyway, the D-42 in this vid sounds great. So I went ahead and purchased today based upon your video and when it arrives if it sounds anything like yours, I'll be happy. If not, it's all your fault! LOL! J/K. Loved your singing too... Just go for it. Don't hold back. Emotion is a good thing. So, what was that song you were playing in the intro? I got what little of it that you played down, but need to know the name of it so I can learn the rest of it. :-)

Tried d18s, 28s and 35s but couldn't find anything in the 40 series locally. This 41 is just the perfect amount of bling and the Amber is so damn pretty. I kind of think of Collings as being like a 3rd party Martin custom shop. My Martin J40 standard arrived from the USA. Like you, I opened it up and it was more or less in tune out of the box! Also, loved to hear you use the expression 'no slouch'. Used a lot by my mother and her generation and mine (I'm 70), but has kind of fallen out of use here in the UK. First time I've heard an American use it! I thought your discussion of Martin and the boutiques was interesting. For me, Martin is still king. The level of quality for such a large producer, the range of models across the range of prices (even leaving aside their budget models, which I believe to be a mistake), and they can still come up, as you show, with guitars that kill the boutiques. I've mentioned elsewhere on your channel that I have a couple of boutique guitars which I love, but at the end of the day my HD 35 is the one I'll be dragging from that burning building.

I'd like to hear you sing the same snippet of song on all your guitars with only a single mic to record it all... maybe a basic song like wagon whelles with G D Em C... might be a bit time consuming..but would be an awsome video... just an idea... I currently looking at a used 2004 d-18 and wonder how my weak singing would go on top of that... hummm!?! Sadly it was the Carpathian spruce top that was the problem with my lovely Martin 000-28 Eric Clapton with stunning Madagascar back and sides. That guitar was absolutely beautiful and sounded incredible, but about a year in the top started doing funky things. It started bellying up and this was a very bad sign. I took care of that guitar by making sure it was always at concert pitch and was properly humidified in the winter months. Despite my diligent care the top was a major problem and I had to get rid of it. I suspect that Martin may have made that top a little too thin and that may very well have been the issue. That's only a guess, but it does make sense.

After 2 days I had narrowed it down to a Custom Shop D4, a Collings, and a Preston Thompson. All around $5K. I think of the three the Martin was the sweetest sounding and I would have bought it but I ran across an old 1977 Mossman that would hang with all three of them for $1600. So I bought the Mossman.

    Very nice guitar but definitely not a Collings killer my friend. Congrats on a beautiful Martin no doubt. Nice playing Neil Young!!!

    I received a guitar in a box like that not too long ago. I think it is UPS’s new “standard” that is probably used for other items too. Mine came in diagonally also. Like you said, she didn’t know how to ship a guitar and had ups do it all. The box works, but it has to cost a lot more to ship with the depth of the box being twice what it needs to be. I still have the box in the attic and will see how much it costs when I reuse it to ship an acoustic in the near future.

    I am a Collings fan and now have 3 Collings. Recently I bought Martin custom om, swiss spruce with Guatemalan rosewood tone wood, maple binding, vertical martin logo on headstock like om-42. I love this Martin sounds rich and wide spectrum. I am now Fan of Martin custom, only complain about Schaller grand tune machine head. not smooth and very tough tune on 3rd G string. waverly is much much smooth and feel better.

    I’m into smaller body guitars. Tried a few Martin OM42 and 000-42 none of them sounded ok. Got a Collings instead. Lucky you for being able to get a good sounding Martin D42 through the net. Martin guitars certainly aren’t bad but I guess quality is just not stable. Don’t think I’ll get one without trying first.

      I just bought a Martin 000-28 1937 custom authentic, and I'm in love. Martin makes some great 000s if you find the right one. I'm also now into smaller ones. Also, idk how you can say none sounded even ok. That's a little odd. But all guitars are like that as far as some being better than others. Collings are too bright for me. Jmo. Everyone has their preference

      EL34Glo Glad to hear you’ve found the 000 you love. I still want an orchestra body Martin, the particular ones I tried at stores sounded a bit lifeless to my ears, at least not as musical as they should be for their price. I did came across a so much better sounding 000-28 modern deluxe but I was looking for a 42. I agree Collings are brighter, mine is a Traditional which sounds a bit warmer than usual Collings.

    Surprise that they leave the Humidipak in during shipping. Those pack are great, but does not travel well. One accident, and you might have a guitar with a blue interior.
