I love it that a child "broke in" that guitar. Such a human story, playing with joy from generation to generation and the guitar can tell each story in its own way. A guitar is something that should inspire...the player. Glad you found what works for you.
Het grootste compliment wat ik je kan geven is dat ik de videos die je maakt vaak niet altijd af kijk maar gewoon zo graag zelf wil spelen dat ik mijn laptop dichtklap en muziek ga maken. Dankjewel.
I've been playing 40 years, I've followed you about 10 years, and literally EVERY aspect of this guitar looks as sounds 10/10. I don't think you can get any better, literally.
In 1961, I was one year old and my mom bought a new 1961 Gibson LG-2 parlor sized guitar as a 2nd anniversary gift for my dad. It was the first guitar I ever saw, touched, and heard played in person. I grew up with it in our house. I never took an interest in learning to play it. After I moved away from home in 1983, I began learning to play guitar. My dad really didn't play his Gibson very often at this point in his life, and he didn't take care of it very well. I told my parents that when the time came, that I wanted my dad's guitar. I really wanted it for sentimental reasons, since the action was really high, it was really dusty inside the sound hole, and just didn't look or play very good. My dad passed away in 2017, and I brought the guitar back to my house and put it in a closet for about 6 months. I mentioned it to a friend of mine who is a very good guitar player, and he wanted to see it. I let him take it home with him and he cleaned it up a little and adjusted the truss rod. Then he told me what he thought it was worth and I was shocked. It was worth 10x what I would have guessed. Knowing this, I decided to take it to a top-notch luthier to get it playing as good as could be expected. When I picked it up and played it, all the sudden it was no longer just a keepsake, it was also a treasured instrument. I have a few other guitars as well, but the Gibson gets played at least a few days every month. Anyway, I like that I have the guitar that I've known longer than any other guitar and I can still play it 62 years after my mom bought it for my dad. EDIT: I should probably add that when I got the guitar set up and playing right, that got me back on my guitar journey. After a few months of practice, I started playing at church on Sunday mornings. I eventually learned to play bass guitar as well. Now I play electric bass most Sundays and I play 6 string with a different church on Thursday evenings.
Beautiful - for so many reasons. You do have a priceless treasured keepsake. And simply - he held it in his hands, pressed close to his heart and played it. My dad was a mechanic and I have his favorite screwdriver.
Paul, this was very moving for me. I got my Collings D2SB in 2000 thanks to my wife who encouraged me to go for it. She's been gone 20 years now and that instrument is not "just a guitar" as I suspect yours won't be either. All these years later I look at the scar that my young son put on the top and remember how I told him it was OK, don't cry, it will always remind me of how much more you mean to me than this guitar. I hope your Collings brings you a lifetime of joy and memories.
Thanks for sharing all of this knowledge and experience, with us all. I'm a big guy, and over the years, I always come back to my smaller sized guitars.. a Taylor Big Baby and Academy 12. They truly 'sing' and do have a voice of their own, lots of warmth 'and' clarity. Great companions.. Hi from Québec city. Sylvain G
The same I said to my son as I cradled while cradling him after tripping on and braking my gigging guitar. More broken than our guitars are our hearts when our children lament. Bless yours, unknown friend. ❤
I can only imagine Little Paul, all grown up, grabbing this guitar knowing it came from the legend that its his father, to another legend. So many love and stories
Got the first ding on my Collings OM2HT while playing on the sofa while my beloved dog was peacefully sleeping next to me. She had a startle during a dream and gave the guitar a little kick. She's getting older now and in a way I cherish that little ding as it reminds me of her. Your new guitar is perfect.
I have a takamine classical that my boy that was 3 at the time, and he got on the top of the body and used it as a skateboard, and there are scratches all on the back because of the concrete floor he layed it on, I would never want those scratches to go anywhere. I was somewhat bummed at first but it was my fault for not putting it in the case while playing another guitar.
I have a Santa Cruz 00-12 that I absolutely love for all the same reasons. Incredible couch guitar and songwriting muse, and it records beautifully. Bravo!
I can't play guitar but I love Paul's videos. His passion is palpable. My hats off to all of you who had the determination and coordination to become a good guitar player!
Congrats Paul. Truly deserving of it. The black and orange hues are beautiful, as is its sounds. What a great way of preserving and paying tribute to a clean and honest model.
There is nothing wrong with feeling a deep appreciation for a beautiful hand made instrument that you connect with. It allows you to bring out through your hands what you feel in your mind and express to the world
I’ve never actually teared up while listening to music before but my god… Amber’s Embrace is just so beautiful I couldn’t help it. Congratulations on the guitar and the baby ❤
I'm so glad you made that OPEN D tuning tune into a full song. Now I have to learn Ambers Embrace, and of course congratulations on your baby, praying the best for your family!
Totally understand your joy of an instrument that really speaks to your soul. It’s a wonderful thing to find a guitar (after you’ve played SO many) that excels in every department. Congratulations, and may you live together happily ever after!
I played every guitar at Gryphon in Palo Alto and kept coming back to my Collings OM 2 short scale. It's been 5 years and I'm still in love with it. Thanks Paul for your love story!
The joy this brings you shines through. When a guitar makes you want to smile and gush about it endlessly, you’ve truly found something special. Congrats, and may you enjoy it for many years to come!
Congratulations to becoming a father. Just going by how you approach the videos you share with us, you are going to be great as a parent. I hope that momma and baby are well. The guitar is just gorgeous and sounds amazing. It’s literally perfect and perfectly suited for you.
I love everything about this guitar. I may never own one, but about a month before my daughter was born, I bought a Martin 000-15. My justification was that maybe one day, it would be her guitar. Congrats on the baby and the guitar.
I absolutely love smaller acoustics, most notably Breedlove. There's something about the parlor size that just resonates so well with what I want an acoustic to sound like.
Congrats on being a father! Since I bought a 0 shape guitar a couple of years ago I barely touched my dreadgnought. I just love the way it feels and sounds. It's well balanced and has this clear sound that just fits perfect to the kind of music I like playing (mixture of fingerpicking and strumming).
Amber’s Embrace is going to be one of the most iconic fingerstyle songs in history. I have never heard a song that spoke to me the way this one does, it has such a calming feeling to it.
I once read someone say in a Facebook Gear Group that the quality of your music gear sets the upper limit, but your talent still has to get it there. Your talent, Paul, is much closer to that guitar's upper limit than mine. Happy to hear you play it. And, congratulations on the new baby!
No your not superficial, not it's not bling ! It's freaking perfect. Paul u deserve this instrument! I don't know many guitar players that wouldn't want this beautiful acoustic! Your design choices perfectly portray your playing and soul!
Paul, this is why me and so many others fall in love with guitar. It's the beauty and experience of these magical gifts. Keep spreading the joy and enjoy this beautiful guitar!! Pearson Handlin (Ridgway, CO)
Paul! This is a joyous interplay between you and this little Collings work of art. I so appreciate the way you combine the joy and curiosity of exploring music with the rigor and technique that are hallmarks of a great player/teacher. Your sense of humor is what makes it so uniquely you. Cheers to you!
There is something absolutely magical in the bright resonance of certain guitars of this size - a certain brilliance to the tone from high to low that I *think* this guitar of yours seems to have. It's something you can only be certain of when holding the guitar in your hands and playing it yourself; but I have experienced it and... wow. This Collings is beautiful. There's nothing "superficial" about how pleasing the craftsmanship is, both in the sound and the guitar's appearance with the beautiful inlay work on this one.
Thanks Paul for your hard work and your passion. This is my preferred guitar channel. 3.25millions subscribers... That's an audience. You deserve it. Ad I hope you make a good living out of it. Thanks for your service. You are a dude.
I love the warm and inviting tone of that guitar. It’s surprising how great it sounds for how small it is. I’ve never played a single 0 guitar, but I love my Martin 000 style. Thanks for sharing the story.
I just bought a Collings OO2H 12-Fret for my 40th B-day and I love it! Smaller body, less string tension, and good string spacing. And you know it sounds amazing because it's a Collings. A real compliment to my Martin D-28
I found a little 1953 Regal Parlor some years back and immediately fell in love with it. Light and comfortable... Lamination cracked - the resonance is beautiful... By far my favorite and most played guitar.
Hey Paul, yet again a lovely video ! Don’t worry about choosing topics for your videos. I would say most of your audience loves your channel because of the way you are able to express your passion for the guitar. It is warm and welcoming and I personally really enjoy all of the videos!
Dear Paul! I just want to say that I truly appreciate your guitar videos and they make me wish I could play the guitar so much (as a piano player who can't play guitar) also that is one beautiful melody and beautiful guitar. And I absolutely can hear the amazing tone of that guitar. It is not lost on me. It's warm and lush and clear all at once! 😍
That was a beautiful ode to your guitar. It is truly beautiful as are many Collings guitars but you’re playing is inspired by your love and passion for the instrument and it shines through with every note. The resonance of the instrument is wonderful but regardless of the luthiers skill it is your love that shines through. On a lighter note the tune is beautiful. God blessed us with open tunings and beautiful woods to bring them alive. Keep on playing.
I love small bodied acoustics! What a gem you have in your hands! That 12 fret body makes a lot of difference. I built a size 5 with a luthier friend of mine. But I used a 23” scale on it, and it’s a little monster.
Beautiful guitar Paul! Congratulations. Your wrong about 90% of the audience won't care. Yes, we're musicians but we love and appreciate our instruments as we spend so much time with them everyday; making Beautiful colors together
There's something magical about a parlor guitar, and that is one of the best looking one I've ever seen. The headstock is breathtaking, both the front and the back. I just have a humble Gretsch Jim Dandy and I'm now a parlor guitar convert. It's all I play anymore, and I play it way more than I've ever played any guitar I've owned in something like 30 years.
My "poorman's collings" Parlour size guitar is the Taylor GS mini spruce guitar with sapelle back and sides! This is a great guitar for its projection, sustain, playability ,portabillity! Best selling line of guitars world wide for a reason! Suits any body type, gender , is good for kings, queens and everything in between! Cant say enough about my buddy Taylor!
Hey Paul, thanks for sharing! I recently bought your Acoustic Adventure course, and I'm so happy with it; I've progressed more in the last 6 months than I did in the last 5 years. I am looking forward to purchase your other courses too once I am done navigating through this one! Anyway, your channel is so inspiring and interesting (I love learning your tunes), thanks for the effort you put in, both in the creative and in the executive process; you're appreciated. Ps have you considered posting on your Spotify account your loops and jams? I'm sure a lot of people would love it Cheers from Italy, have a marvelous day! ☀️
An uplifting video: lovely to see your passion and appreciation for this beautiful instrument whilst also saying, "It's just a guitar"! Wishing you many happy hours of playing.
Congratulations on the new human! Fatherhood changed my life so much for the better. Bon voyage! Oh, and sick new guitar. BTW, if you don’t already know, Rockabye Baby is awesome for nap time (I was fond of the Radiohead one).
Experienced father congratulates new father! My sons are now 30 and 35, and we have excellent rapport! Fatherhood is a “job” that will exhaust you multiple times but you will still love it. Please enjoy it! I played guitar for 18+ years before my first son arrived. I still play for enjoyment. Cheers!
No guitar love can compare with the love you feel for your child. But the beauty of this guitar is like the cherry on top. Even on my crappy computer speakers this thing sounds amazing.
This was so much fun....I've only been playing since May of '21, starting lessons at the ripe old age of 57. After a lifetime of wishing I could play, I decided that I could give it a try. I started watching lessons on YT, and you were one of the first instructors (mentors? gurus?) to whom I gravitated. While I started learning in face-to-face lessons, too, I signed up for your LPP course around that same time, figuring that I wanted to learn everything I could as QUICKLY as I could. I spent too much money on too many guitars, but I finally think I have the ones I want. Except for the topic of this video: a custom-built guitar. I might never do it, but I fantasize about it. What tonewoods I would want, 12-fret versus 14, Grand Concert or Grand Auditorium or Parlor, Collings or Santa Cruz? So many questions....But I thank you, because you answered a few of them. (I enjoy the visual aspects like you do, and the inlay on that headstock is sublime.) Congrats on your new addition, too! And thank you!
In a way, it’s a good thing to get that first ding out the way, and kinda nice that it was done by your kid. Adds character/history, and now you don’t need to be so worried about it.
It's a great guitar. Having owned and played a number of guitars, I've learned our ideal guitar comes as a result of of experience with guitars, plus preference of how it feels. It will always be the 'feel' of an instrument that gets ya. Sound is important, but I believe is secondary. A guitar that feels good will inspire your playing.
Beautiful Paul! I don’t think you are being superficial at all! I don’t feel there is anything wrong with appreciating a work of art. Very happy for you! Enjoy, I know we all are watching and listening!😊
You're not supposed to popularize these '0' models until I'm done collecting 😅 That is one SPECIAL guitar you have there! I hope it brings you a lifetime of joy to you!
Unmistakable tone of a Collings acoustic - incredible sweet and sparkly. Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses plays Collings guitars and they're all over her early solo albums, especially Hips and Makers and Strange Angels.
I am not worthy of a Collings, but I've played several of their acoustics and electrics. Every one of them was spectacular - the feel, the tone, the clarity. Amazing guitars. If you're lucky, you might find an old one built by Bill Collings himself.
I never took any notice in the smaller guitars. I didn't think badly of them, I simply didn't think about them. Then one day I was handed a Baby Taylor to repair and service for a friend. As I finished, installing the strings and bringing it back into tune, I was struck instantly with the even tones and the volume resonating from the smallest guitar that I had ever held. The sound was so amazing that a song spontaneously emerged, seemingly emanating from the instrument itself in thanks for the care. It has been many years since then and I still occasionally strum that song, but the feeling usually pales when I remember the sounds given by that surprisingly impressive little guitar.
Same here haha. It's so resonant though, that you don't really need to amplify it at home. and then when i practice with the band and play a gig i'm always amazed how good that old Strat sounds! 🙂👍@@OldeDog_NewTricks
Once upon a time there was a guy named Josh White who played a similar guitar called a New York Martin. I loved hearing it because it had many of the same qualities you enjoy here. And, he was also a gifted guitarist as well. Many people forget that Mr Martin built some of the finest classical guitars in the world.
cool... always amazed by the depth you get from small bodied or "parlour" guitars.. I love my little Yairi as it constantly surprises me, and others, with its complexity. The guitar you have there is exquisite in tone and appearance... I feel you're allowed to be picky when you're getting something built to your specs! Bravo!! I guess there should be a shout out to Collings also for the quality of workmanship which shines out..
Fantastic guitar, not only the looks but the sound as well. I’m the proud owner of two Martin guitar, one OM-18 custom shop with pyramid bridge and an 0-18 couch guitar. Your guitar is in another league when it comes to the price. Good luck and thank you for your lessons. 😊
I work at a guitar company, we make Breedlove and Bedell guitars. Not long ago, I was gifted a beautiful guitar from my job. They gave me a beautiful ‘Belle Vocè Bellissma Parlor’ and it reminds me of your guitar. There’s nothing like a smaller hand built 12 feet guitar. I’m gonna die with this guitar in the room, hopefully in 50 years haha.
What an amazing and full sound! Has an amazing balance between single notes, chords and strumming--and holds the volume and fullness like no other I have ever heard! When does the signature model go into limited production?
Congrats my good friend Paul, it is a blessing to be a father and your family seems have inspired you to this stunning guitar, best regards from ENGLAND 🏴
Thank you for such a gorgeous video and story. Don't worry, you didn't go too far over the top with your love for that guitar. It makes music, it makes you and others happy when you play it. The gift of music is a very precious thing. I hope that guitar never leaves your parlor!!
I just got an inexpensive Martin. Its a small guitar, a JR, and I love it. Wish I could have had this thing for my whole life. I cant believe how good these small guitars sound.
Paul, so easy to see your love for this guitar. I think those of us who are blessed to have either several guitars to enjoy for their unique qualities, and/or have something custom made to their own spec’s as you have shown with this video can understand the special connection that we have with such pieces of music-making craftsmanship. Enjoy, and thanks for sharing with us! Also, congrats on becoming a new father, for this is the best art you will ever have the joy of creating!
Congrats Paul on birth of baby but OMG that dent on day 1. Ay Carumba. Still, it is done, and that is one hell of a beautiful guitar and you so deserve it. I've been trying to practice that tune since you first played it on one of your earlier Drop D videos and it's so great to see it blossom into amber's embrace. Rock on, man.
Thank you for sharing your love of this guitar. I can definitely relate as I have a custom built OO 12 fret slotted head guitar given to me as a surprise birthday present by my good friend at Sumner Guitars. And congrats on fatherhood!
I adore the sound of this guitar. Sometimes I think we confuse LOW resonance with resonance, and start chasing larger bodied instruments to get a sound that feels "fuller". But adding more low frequencies doesn't won't necessarily make a guitar feel more resonant, because occupying more of the frequency spectrum (or booming more in the low end) isn't what resonance actually is. This has a beautiful timbre and chimeyness without sounding hollow. Beauty!
I love it that a child "broke in" that guitar. Such a human story, playing with joy from generation to generation and the guitar can tell each story in its own way.
A guitar is something that should inspire...the player.
Glad you found what works for you.
Congrats on your new baby Paul! Happy to see mother and child are both doing great!

Amber’s Embrace is going to be one of the most iconic fingerstyle songs in history. I have never heard a song that spoke to me the way this one does, it has such a calming feeling to it.
Notice the Mary Tyler Moore melody hook? Took me a while to figure out why it sounded familiar hah. Not a criticism.. Paul put together a great tune.
I think you haven’t heard much fingerstyle music yet. It’s a great tune but “most iconic” is way too strong a word.

Hey Paul, yet again a lovely video ! Don’t worry about choosing topics for your videos. I would say most of your audience loves your channel because of the way you are able to express your passion for the guitar. It is warm and welcoming and I personally really enjoy all of the videos!
Yes!!! That's so true!
This is the truth!
Appreciating a beautiful piece of art that hold deeps meaning for you is absolutely not superficial. Totally perfect guitar.
I don't know if most people could appreciate your emotional connection to this guitar but dang bro your skills are evident :)
Man once that guitar started playing I got goosebumps!!! It’s so heavy ❤️❤️❤️
Same.
Boxy sound of a high end parlor guitar
Beautiful tone, balance, and bling. A masterpiece from Collins.
I just love parlor guitars and this one is perhaps the best I've ever seen. Congrats on this and the other baby. As always, beautiful playing. : )
Beautiful guitar Paul! Congratulations. Your wrong about 90% of the audience won't care. Yes, we're musicians but we love and appreciate our instruments as we spend so much time with them everyday; making Beautiful colors together
The resonance is fantastic for a guitar of that size. The melody at 7:06 is very touching.
My "poorman's collings"
Parlour size guitar is the Taylor GS mini spruce guitar with sapelle back and sides!
I'm sure a lot of people would love it
Cheers from Italy, have a marvelous day!
I was thinking the same thing. When u r a family man, all material things r things. Kids and dogs will F up ur 💩.
Congratulations on being a father. It's a wonderful wonderful thing
Beautiful Paul! I don’t think you are being superficial at all! I don’t feel there is anything wrong with appreciating a work of art. Very happy for you! Enjoy, I know we all are watching and listening!😊
Paul you never fail to amaze me, super talented, and congrats on the new baby! 👍🏾
That’s a beautiful guitar, dude. Congrats! ❤
Dude I’m so happy ambers embrace is on Spotify now I was in love with this song!!!
In the end we all come back to the acoustic guitar
Great guitar man!
So true. Been playing electric and realized that I rarely plug it in lol😂
Thank You
Visually beautiful, sonically just to die for. Love that guitar
cool... always amazed by the depth you get from small bodied or "parlour" guitars..
Love it, Beautiful guitar, beautiful song , beautiful baby. You are so clearly very happy in this video. Really uplifting.
Is the guitar being recorded with the same mic as your voice? If so then that's some incredible tone!
Nice guitar
Congrats my good friend Paul, it is a blessing to be a father and your family seems have inspired you to this stunning guitar, best regards from ENGLAND 🏴
Thank you for such a gorgeous video and story. Don't worry, you didn't go too far over the top with your love for that guitar. It makes music, it makes you and others happy when you play it. The gift of music is a very precious thing. I hope that guitar never leaves your parlor!!
How much Paul?🫣
About $6k unfortunately.
@@shlomofreemanit’s way more. I guess around 20k
Ridiculous prices.
$6k isn’t so bad for a completely custom job, is it? $20k is…. Woooof
That would be a “my kids not going to college guitar.” 🤣 however this one might over a long time actually go up in value, plus it’s famous now!!
So...Who makes the guitar.?
Collins
You! You make the guitar…
Sorry...but what model is that guitar?
Collings 0-42 A SB T 12 fret
Collings about 8 grand
Paul David model
My goodness this is a beautiful guitar and the sound and balance of the chord and single note is so good.
You’re right Paul, that is an outstandingly beautiful sound and it looks gorgeous to boot!
Beauty!
