    Have you played Mage Knight? Do you enjoy it?
    Is it your #1 game? If not, why not? :)

      I have now played it. It's not the first time I've watched a playthrough of this on your channel. But on the other ones, including the tutorial, my brains was never able to cope with it ; it was always fun to see players figuring this out nonetheless. So I jumped on this one as well when it popped up in my notifications. And I don't know whether there is something different in this tutorial compared to the other ones or if I have grown as a gamer since then but it finally clicked. I double checked with the awesome mod on TTS and yes, now I get it. I am very bad and I am sure i still have couple of rules wrong but now I can get my head around it and I had a lot of fun figuring out the puzzle! I can't say it is my new favorite (i have got a lot of #1s) though, yet. 😛
      I was always a bit frustrated seeing this game so revered and seeing people enjoying it while enjoying watching them yet no being able to be part of this circle. So thanks to Powerplants Games "forcing" you to do this new tutorial and thank you Paul for opening this door once again. Though my wallet and my shelf will complain, I will pre-order the french reprint coming this month. Maybe one day I will have the same epiphany for Through The Ages.😅

      Yes(solo player). I like it a lot, but have only done the beginner scenario with each character. Not my #1 game (top 5) but i've barely scratched the surface of it - it'd be tough to oust #1

    To me, it’s simply the perfect game. The artwork, the layout, the design, the card structure, the heroes, the enemies, everything. It’s just a well thought out, and designed game, it’s like every facet down the smallest detail is exactly where it needs to be. There’s only 1 other game I’d call perfect and that’s Eldritch Horror. To me, they are both just amazing games which test your skills to their limits, yet, each time you play is different. Such an awesome game.! Ty for sharing!

    It’s awesome watching how comfortable you feel in teaching such a complex game. This is only possible when you are passionate about a game. Thank you for sharing your passion with us 👍

    Thanks so much for all your Mage Knight content. I’ve had the game out on the table for 3 days now and have done the First Reconnaissance solo twice, just trying to get my head around the minutiae of the rules. Watching your playthroughs has helped tremendously. This is a fantastic game! I don’t know if I’d ever be adept at it, but it’ll be fun muddling through. 😃

    Mage Knight is a game I love, and I put it around the midpoint of my top 100 list. It is brilliant, but I always have that creeping feeling that I am doing something wrong. But I think it’s going to rise in my rankings. I am starting to come back to it more often.

    absolutely never saw the attraction of Mage Knight, so wanted to like it as so many love it but never did, then i watched this stream, then i watched one of your previous MK streams, then I ordered the game. A game described as super difficult seems pretty easy when taught well, with a pile of Gloomhaven under my belt the card systems seems fairly intuitive. I've taken several pages of notes but fairly confident now. even considering the play mats now (table space depending)

      @@GamingRulesVideos was excellent and not too complicated! Only took one wound all game and was sitting on a healing place at the time so that was soon gone. Loved the puzzle element. Main things I've not yet done are two enemies at once and the cities. There are a few rules I wondered over, like can you use siege attack on non-fortified enemies as if it was range?

    Hi...late to the watch. Love the Mage Knight plays. My favorite game. One question: Are you correct about handling the orc summoner? Around 1 hour 2 minute mark you explain that you fight the summoned monster. I believe that is partially incorrect. IIRC, you only deal with the summoned monsters attack...but you still use the summoners armor value for purposes of your counter attack.

    I am trying to tackle this game but it is a big challange. 😅 at : 3.11.23 your friend is fighting an ice mage, but if y're not using a fire block you will need a block of 10 I thought? Your friend is just getting 2 wounds.... what do I miss? 😊

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  Год назад +1

      oh gosh. You're going to make me have to remember how to play... :)
      So, the Ice Mages have an attack of 5, but it is ice. Meaning, anything other than fire block is inefficient. So... it is still an attack of 5, but you need 10 normal block to block it.
      Which means if you don't block it, it's still just an attack of 5.
      Does that make sense?

    • @Priscilla735
      @Priscilla735 Год назад

      Haha, yeah I thought I will wake you up a bit 😅 but I finally get it. So it is beter not to block it at all when you don't have fire block. After all its not that difficult 😊

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  Год назад +1

      @@Priscilla735 Indeed. Part of the skill in the game is knowing when it is worth taking the wounds. Sometimes, in a fight, you CAN block it, and then kill it, but other times, just take the damage if you need to

    i dont understand the combat in this game. the orc hag you fought at 55:00 was defended by your peasants. if the hag has 3 attack and your peasants had 3 block im confused as to why they took wounds? in my mind if you blocked all 3 damage then you wouldnt take any wounds. Does this mean even if you successfully block an attack by an enemy you just always take a wound? that doesnt seem right. im not seeing what im not seeing lol I just bought this game and am having a hard time getting through my first recon because i just dont get how combat works.

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  2 года назад

      The Peasants do not have 3 Block. Block is something completely different (found on cards that you play). The Peasants have 3 Armour Value.
      The actual rules are:
      4. You can assign damage to a Unit as long as it is not Wounded. Unwounded Spent Units can have damage assigned to them.
      a. Whenever a Unit is assigned damage, put a Wound card on that unit. A Unit becomes Wounded regardless of how much damage was actually assigned. Then, reduce the
      damage total by the Unit’s Armor value.
      • Assigning just one point of damage can Wound a Unit with a high Armor value. Armor value simply determines how much damage remains after the Unit is Wounded, if any.
      Hope that helps

    • @randalladkins7452
      @randalladkins7452 8 месяцев назад

      @@GamingRulesVideos Hey Paul, just want to clarify my understanding on this rule. Basically, it’s saying if a unit takes ANY damage, it receives one wound. THEN you reduce normal incoming damage by the Unit’s armor value. In this case, that would be 1 damage for taking a hit at all, then (after reducing the 3 incoming normal damage by the Peasants’ 3 Armor) 1 more damage from the poison. If there was more damage it would then have to be assigned to another unit if you had one or received by the player. Correct?

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@randalladkins7452 Correct. You effectively assign 3 damage to the peasants. If the attack did not have poison, it would just be 1 wound. Because of the poison however, it is 2 wounds, but that is still only 3 damage which has been assigned. Any other damage must then go elsewhere.

    A great game to be sure. But I actually like Star Trek Frontiers better. Not only do I think the theme fits better but the gameplay is smoother and feels a bit better. Especially with the Kahn expansion it really makes solo play fun and playing with 5 people can be pretty interesting. I would like to see playmats for that game as well although I have made my own that aren't as good. Lol.

      @kellinwinslow1988 3 года назад

      @@GamingRulesVideos It is but it lacks the working together aspect that was always a part of Star Trek. It's a good game but it feels a bit limited and since it's just competitive focused it doesn't get much play time at my place. When Tom Vassal from Dice Tower reviewed Frontiers and talked about how much better the theme was when it was laid on top of Mage Knight that's when I knew I had to check it out.

    I heard only good things about this game and decided to watch some playthroughs. I don't like that it's basically luck of the draw if the cards have synergy plus the dice rolls so you also might not have mana. I hate luck. I wish you could have some free/basic actions that you can do each turn without cards (like move for example) and more advanced actions on the cards. Bummer, it seems like a good game otherwise.
