Very nice play through, AND, I learned a new rule: I always drew 1 additional card, no matter how many keeps I owned, which I now see, makes a BIG difference for the end-game. THANKS!
Hey Colin, thanks for the playthrough. MageKnight and RickyRoyal's videos are what got me started on my solo and cooperative boardgaming hobby. Shortly before finding the One Stop Co-op Shop channel and countless hours of entertainment :)

First time I've checked out your channel. I've been interested in this game for awhile, and it's nice to see it played. I have to admit, I am very impressed with your video. Excellent camerawork, great audio, and you explain the game very clear and succinctly. Overall, I'd give this a 10 out of 10... I couldn't find a thing wrong with how you presented the game. I'm primarily a solo player, so I love videos on solo games so I can see how they work. Just by watching this play through, I will say you have a new subscriber. I'm going to check out the rest of your channel and see what else you have. Thanks for this playthrough!
@@OneStopCoopShop That you take the time to welcome a single person to your channel shows me that you care about you viewers. Thank you! I only have 1,099 more videos to watch... :)
Hahahahahaha you better grab a cup of coffee cause that might take a bit! And the best part of having a channel is the community right? Glad we can make you feel welcome as that is just what we are trying to do over here at the One Stop!
Hey there Colin! Nice video, I recently got into Mage Knight and I'm loving it! I just had a question though: near the beginning of the video after defeating the first enemy, you drew a spell and an advanced action card. Don't you only get a spell from defeating the enemy in the dungeon, not an advanced action? Edit: silly me, I didn't realise that when levelling up you get a skill and an advanced action 😅
I'm an MK beginner and I gotta say this video was very well made and helpful. Man, do I suck at this game, the last scenario I played I was carrying like 12 wounds on me and wasted so many turns to heal them up, because I didn't have any skills available to remove them. Wish I had a playthrough like yours. You were kinda lucky with the dummy player through most of the game though.
I have just played earlier today, I usually start by doing a 'standard' solo conquest to warm up my mage muscles, and then move on to other scenarios. one I would definitely recommend is 'Dungeon Lords' from the base game - mainly because it leads to a very strong deck in a short time.
Great stuff, just got MK yesterday and gave the first reconnaissance a go and I’m so excited. Your play through was great, loved the explanation of choices and thought processes. Only thing that was gutting was the expansion stuff I don’t have! 😂
ALOHA 🤙🏝️ Very good vidéo 👌👌👌. Very good caméra plan👍👍👍. Just few things , you must refresh monastery before with advanced cards 😊. And AT 45'30 you can't one shot the mage tower with ranged attack😅. It's fortified ! I love this monument ❤❤❤. Thanks for the vidéos 🙏🙏🙏.
Generally you do move more than attack early on. Starting out your deck is limited and you have no skills or units so you need to choose your fights more carefully. However, I would say there is a difference between choosing skills and choosing advanced actions in a level up. Skills are always available to you but are generally weaker than cards, while cards are stronger you do not have control over when you draw them in future rounds, so the card you choose is more about what kind of boost you need for the next turn or so whereas the skill is more about how you can improve your minimum capability on a long term basis. In that sense I would pick a movement skill more often than a movement card.
As always, excellent playthrough! Mage Knight is a BLAST!! Btw, just want to ask how do you do your recording, any tips you can share for someone who would like to try the same thing like me? Also, any starting or basics equipment/tools need in a more beginner and budget-friendly(e.g. cam/phone, stand, lights, mic)? Just like how you start off :)
Thanks for watching! I have a cam recorder and a tri-pod, and a mic that connects to my computer! Then its just getting some good lighting and make sure to get pieces in shot on the screen!! Good luck and if you want more info feel free to email us at onestopcoopshop@gmail.com Thanks!
@@OneStopCoopShop Great! Would it be fine to just use a phone? And one more thing, do you have mutliple cam recorder, or just just move around the cam, and do a shot-by-shot-scene? Will gladly email you someday. Thanks! :)
Hi, i'm new to MK and on my first introductory game in ultimate edition. I have only one question, when you take your reward at 1:22 (2 artifact cards) does the rule not say that you reveal 2+1 artifact cards and return the one you did not chose?
@@OneStopCoopShop It's very helpful for me to see your gameplays, really nice game. but watching the monsters revealed in the city assault makes me feel like giving up before the assault lol.
Don't!! You've got this. Just remember you don't have to kill them all in one go and Units are your friends! Get some units, maybe a spell or two and you can take down a city!!
@@OneStopCoopShop it looks like a lot of fun whenever I get some money up I am going to get it and know this is not apart of this video but been looking at the Oniverse games I wonder what you think about those games
I currently have two unsuccessful (and veeeery sloppy) games under my belt, and each time I come back and watch another video from you to learn more and go "oooooh, THATS how that works" lol thanks for these playthroughs!
I am a little late to the party... I watched the Colin playthrough twice and along with reading the rulebook multiple times, it taught me how to play this game. After two days of analyzing every move, I just completed my first Solo Conquest game using Tovak and I scored... 147 from fame track, +20 +15 fame from 2 cities, +5 End of Round, +14 +15 Knowledge, +6 + 3 Loot, +17 Leader, +16 Conqueror, +6 Adventurer, 0 wound cards = 264! I will probably never beat this score lol A few notes: from the video I learned the importance of conquering Keeps of which I had 4, including one that was perfectly located between both cities. I used the Temporal Portal to increase my hand limit whenever possible. I also never took a wound card that I could not heal during the same turn ;-)
Please do another playthrough as that was very helpful. I've only played the walkthrough scenario a few times and after watching this I think I'll take on a solo conquest. The city battles are a little overwhelming, but watching you do it makes it easier to understand. I also really enjoyed the pace, editing, and general clarity of the video. Thank you!
Still the best solo game going! Good choice on Planning. It's almost always my starting choice. Bummer on getting a spell on the dungeon instead of an artifact, although those are some great spells. When you went from healing glad to healing glade, why didn't you use your +2 walk token instead of pitching 3 cards?
Great playthrough of my favorite solo game ever! Always a blast to play, isn’t it? Just a really small rules mistake: at 1:30:50 you should have only rerolled the gold and black dice, basic color dice always stay as rolled. Not that it’d make a big difference...
Ultra illustrative way of explaining an outstanding brain breaking boardgame (my favorite solo boardgame)... thanks for that simple and straightforward explanation, just 90 minutes for a 2 to 3 hours game... I Love Mage Knight!
Just comment (for future generations) on small mistake at 16:16 as you counted your Cold Toughness as 6 block, but it is 7 actually. 5 base, +1 for ice attack of enemy, +1 for resistance of enemy. Also move into the city always cost 2, regardless of terain printed underneat it Great game tho!
@@OneStopCoopShop No, I want to say THANK YOU. You have amazing content. I love your playthough videos. I LOVE your editing. One Stop Co-op Shop is my favorite board game channel to watch.
Nice!!! Perfect for me to finally get my copy to the table and learn it properly! As much as I love Frontiers, I need to forget that while I play Mageknight so I don't get the rules wrong!
Can i ask some question. Can i end move without spend all move point. For example i get 4 move points from card so i decide to move just 2 point to village and interact.
Maybe I’m not keeping up with your tempo because it seems you are using more than one mana from the source per turn. I thought you could use just one from the source per turn.
1:35:03 You used a blue mana token from a previous turn when it should have been discarded. I haven't seen anyone else mention this in the comments. As a new player, can anyone tell me if this is correct?
Really enjoy your sense of humor clear joy you experience while playing this game. Also, your explanation of your decisions really helps tie the game together for a new player. Thank you for posting these.
Your Ares Expedition video inspired me to play engine builders and I had a blast. After watching this video I finally stop procrastinating my MK journey. Woah that's totally amazing! Thank you and thank you!
Colin I want to thank you for the great play through but I have a question for you. At 01:36:17 you faced the frozen catapult with CHILL spell. I think the rulebook refers that you have to use opponent element to deal with Ice Attack...is it right or I misunderstood something ??
Hello, Thanks a lot for your video. Just a question, when you play the "freedom of the mines" scenario in solo, do you do it in 2 day/2 nights or 3 day/3nights ?
16:46 You should take 3 wound from Ice Witch because take 1 wound for any damage you can't completely block first then count > damage5 - armour3 so total =3 Isn't it?
**dies laughing** Aw gees... Sorry, it's not due to the video. I haven't started it yet. I just noticed that this one is dated three years ago and RUclips is showing me another video from this channel, with an identical name, that's from 2 years ago. I thought I was seeing double for a minute, but the runtime there is two minutes shorter, so I suspect you returned to it and no one recalled this one existed. XD Okay, yes I amuse easily. Nevertheless, I just doubled by viewing pleasure because I can move onto that video after this one! :D
I still need to break out the Ultimate Edition again. Only have played it once with my Mom, but never solo. Have pre-ordered the new expansion to boot.
So much fun to watch Colin! I've had Mage Knight forever. I've played it a few times, and just haven't quite figured it out yet. Watching this makes me want to pull it back out and give it another go, because the game is just so cool. Great job!
Thanks Brock! I do hope it helps, and although it can feel overwhelming at first, once you find the grove the game sings! There is a reason it is one of the best solo games out there! Good luck!!
Colin, I think you have moving into a city wrong. It just costs 2 to move into a city. The terrain doesn't matter. At least that's the way I've always understood it.
Great video, as always ! I love Arythea's skills. But Tovak's skills are great too. Specially the attack and defence ones. Yes for another Mage ! I really love Norowas. Arcane immunity doesn't meen that we can't use spell ;-) Rulebook : Arcane Immunity - The enemy is not affected by any non-Attack/Block effects. Effects that directly affect enemy attacks still apply.
Hey, great vid! Question though. At 1:34:30, you use motivation and grab a blue mana token, which you then use at the start of your next turn. Don't you have to throw away that token? I think you may have also done this another time earlier on.
@@OneStopCoopShop Oh, interesting! I didn't know you could do that. Makes sense, because you don't refresh the skill till next turn end. Well, anyways, thanks for giving me more confidence in trying to win a game. I am so slow and weak by day 3 I still get walloped, finishing with like 80 points. Maybe I need to take 30 wounds to get the job done!
That was a great watch, Colin, thank you. I don't know if anyone pointed that out yet, O couldn't find it in a quick scan of the comments, but you could had not have targeted the familiars with a Call to Arms effect. That's what the ! Symbol on the card is supposed to remind us. Thematically, they are extraplanar creatures that can be summoned when you recruit then, but they are hanging around to be affected by these other effects.
I think this was the best MK video I've seen, well done! At 1:26:45 you choose to discard 3 cards just to cycle, I think you could have used them as movement with a wound to move next to your keep.
This is an amazing video. I never played the game or saw a playthrough of the game but this was easy to follow and made me very hyped to play it for myself. Great job.
Even though it's awhile since you made this video, it's still great! I have the Ultimate Edition, but can't even reach a city in Solo Conquest (even with Goldyx or Tovak), let alone defeat two cities at any strength. I'd love to use your strategies, but I'm at the mercy of the offers. I can't use cards that don't come up! Also a question: At 1:30:50, should you only reroll the gold an black dice (not the blue)?
Thank you for doing another Mage Knight video. For those who want to try learning the game, I definitely second the recommendation for Ricky Royal's videos. Colin's Volkare's Returns videos are also great to watch(less technical but more entertaining). If anyone has any questions please post them on Boardgamegeek's Mage Knight section. There are plenty of people who are willing to answer questions there. Here are things to remember that may help ease into the game: -Before you start using a map shape for the first time try to practice laying out the map first. I only found out I did the wedge shape completely wrong after the first 5 games. -A card played sideways will provide a value of 1 for move, attack, block, or influence. Think of your Mage Knight as a general leading their army across the land, sometimes you don't have exactly what you need to accomplish the task at hand and you are improvising to succeed at all cost. Not the most efficient way to do things but sometimes it had to be done. -Night time makes exploration more difficult. Forests will be harder to traverse(but deserts will be easier since it will be cooler), remote fortifications such as keeps and mage towers are impossible to scout at night because everyone went to sleep. However, cities are central hubs of the empire so the guards will be on watch 24/7, that means you can reveal city enemies even at night. -Rampaging enemies are nuisances to the population and they would be happy if you get rid of them, so you will always know who they are whether it's day or night and gain reputation for defeating them. They are itching for a fight so you can always initiate a fight by being next to them. Note that orcs and draconums that are not rampaging in the wilds do not count as rampagers and defeating them do not increase reputation. -Attacking a fortification will always require paying for movement since you are trying to invade the place, and you will always slide your reputation once to the left because the locals do not approve of you trying to destabilize the peace. I will keep a watch on the comments and I will do my best to answer any questions people may have.
@@OneStopCoopShop I just got done watching and here is my feedback. General: -One way to not confuse using per turn and per round skills is to rotate the per turn skills vertically when you use it. That way it is easier to remember refreshing per turn skills and not refresh per round ones by accident. -Motivation got called Concentration a few times. Rules: -When you have artifacts as your reward you draw one more than the amount you are rewarded, put the artifacts that you want on your deck and the one you don't want at the bottom of the artifact deck. So for that ancient ruin 3 artifacts would get drawn and 2 of them will be chosen. -In order to obtain the services of Familiars and Delphana Masters you have to directly recruit them. You cannot use or get them with spells, artifacts, or even site rewards(as noted by the '!' next to the influence cost). That means Call to Arms do not work on Familiars. Thematically Familiars do not exist until they are summoned and Delphana Masters are so powerful you have to convince them directly to join your cause. Balance wise both units are very powerful and being able to get them without needing influence can tip the scale too much. -We rerolled all 3 dice at Night 3 even though one of them was not a gold/black mana. -We played 5 movement to attack the green city when it costs 2. I try to remember the 2 movement rule by thinking that cities have better roads than remote places like keeps and mage towers. -Dummy does not draw once you win. You just play out the last turn. -Motivation was used on the last turn of the game when it was already used in the city assault. This does not take away that it is a great video, and it wouldn't be a game of Mage Knight if there isn't a dozen rules broken :). Hope this helped.
@@phillipyu5293 Thanks for all of this! Only thing I see is I didn't use Motivation in the last turn, I discarded a wound to draw one card from my "I feel no pain" ability. The other ones though are spot on thanks! Appreciate the help I did not know about the Familiars at all!! So that is super helpful, and the 5 movement, I totally wanted to do a dance apparently in the city prior to taking it out :) HAHA!
Thank you for the video. I played this game about 15 times and I have always been playing many parts wrong lol I use to add both the advance action and the spell to the dummy player's deck. He's deck was bigger, but he would also draw cards of the color of a crystal more often. Also, I only used advanced units after revealing a core city tiles, and many more little things. Thanks again!
@@OneStopCoopShop I sure did. Spread it over three sessions. There were a few mistakes (there always are in mage knight), but the two that popped out to me was that it always costs two move to enter a city, and I'm pretty sure that when you gain artifacts, you draw one more, so when you got two, you should have drawn three. Not that either mistake changed much. Thanks for all your work!
Thanks Darren for watching!! I just wanted that extra move into the city so I could celebrate haha! I could have sworn artifacts you draw 2 and keep one. But ill have to look that up!
@@OneStopCoopShop usually you do, but usually you only get one at a time. It didn't make a difference since you didn't take the fourth one, but it might have if of the first three, you liked the first two best,
At 15:05 you would get a yellow token for the start of that turn. You just burned the mana card ending turn to get rid of wound. Then got another turn. At the start of that turn you get a gold mana again. Wouldn't you have 2? Or is that mana only for that turn?
Apologies if it's already pointed out but -- 1:03:30 Range attacking fortified enemy, chained with normal attack ? It's night so you could use siege attack variant of spell to deal 5+ damage given black mana.
Thanks for a new playthrough. I love how quick you get into the game and get into the action. Also great resolution to your video - very easy to see the cards and map. One good optimizing tip since moving and exploring is so critical in solo conquest (thus kudos for taking the movement skill). The threaten card sideways should have been used for one movement to get into the magical glade, or if still wanting to use swiftness, then the extra remaining movement point not to lose it, using threaten sideways would have allowed you to reveal a new tile before confronting the rampaging orc at 9:40 since exploring is still part of the movement phase. I have never taken so much wounds as you did, but man the way you powered through - you sure it wasn't Arythea that you were playing as! As for scoring, I am sure you got more than than 160. First off, once both cities are conquered, the dummy player does not get another turn, but you do so his remaining cards in his deck would give you +3 and an additional +5 for no end of round called. But loved your game. I have only ever scored over 200 once myself and when I do take out both cities usually around 170. Hope to see more, and Happy New Year.
One of my mistake is that i could have purchased mage knight for 40dollars and i didnt and now i cant get it under 70 dollars the base game.i regret it
Was very fun to watch, would definately watch more vids like this. Question: you did not play with volkore but you did use the map tiles and monsters from the expansion. Did you mix everything from the expansion together? I tend to keep them seperate.
At 1:22:00 when you are going to get the artifacts: you have won two. If you win 1 artifact, you can take 2 and choose 1. I'm almost sure that, if you win 2, you just take 3 and choose 2 (not take 2 and choose 1 and again take 2 and choose 1). Just to let new players know 😉
46:16 The advanced action stays in the offer until the next day/night round as far as I know. It simply won't get replenished when starting a new round.
@@OneStopCoopShop Ah, at 46:16 you discard an advanced action card which was in the unit offer thanks to a monastary. The reason you discard it is because you burned the monastary down. I thought you're supposed to keep the card in the offer until the next round, and simply don't replenish it when resetting the unit offer. (I might be wrong there, but remember looking it up on BGG once and have played like this ever since)
@@OneStopCoopShop Great playthrough by the way! Made me excited enough to set up Mage Knight yesterday evening and play through the first day. Got a bit late, but I'll continue after dinner tonight :) (I should definitely be a bit less restrained when it comes to attacking mage towers/keeps, so I'll try and follow your example and annihilate most of what stands in my way)
At the end when dealing with the mage in the City you had 6 block from your units and then said "2 block from the wound so thats 7", so i think you didnt need to play the Swiftness sideways to get enough block
@@OneStopCoopShop there's a lot of people around who can't afford to throw a ton of money on the latest Kickstarter. It's definitely a good thing to show affordable games.
I just bought the Ultimate Edition and was considering how best to tackle the rules. Watching this video will greatly reduce the time to learn the game...thanks!
At 1:10: 36 When being attacked by the final Red City defender, could you have assigned the 12 damage to Utem AND Fire Golems? So, can multiple units defend against a single attacker?
Hi..At 12.23 you moved next to rampaging enemy and had him immediately attack you.. I thought the only way to initiate battle was to use ranged attack or move into another space adjacent to him which activates the enemy attack..
I have never played this before so I may be wrong but I believe around 1:36:42 when you are blocking you used 1 extra card than you had to since you had 6 block and used the wound for 2 then another makes 9 and you only needed 8. I would like to see another video with this game if you are still wanting to do more!
Ok, finished the vid. I loved how everything came together for that last city attack. Super cool to see those wounds coming in for the save as well! Any plans to post another MK vid?
I've heard so many great things about this game. If I were to get ST Frontiers...are there many differences? Is this one better than ST? I know it's rated higher.
Great question! I owend both for awhile, but decided I didn't need ST Frontiers and Mage Knight and I prefer fantasy over sci-fi. ST Frontiers is easier to play IMHO, movement is much easier (you are in space so it makes sense), there is only 1 type of tactic cards, you don't have to assault buildings, there is partial block etc. etc. But you have away missions which are totally cool. Overall though I'd pick whichever theme fits you because the VAST majority of the game is similar! Just my opinion of course!
I got the game today. The way you explain what your doing and how you do it makes it 10 times easier to understand. Ive only played two solo conquests but my favorite mage is probably tovak.
Like your videos. This video explains the game very well. However, could you explain again on why could you gain so many crystals at 48:18? I thought you can only gain ONE crystal for EACH card discarded? Many thanks.
@@OneStopCoopShop I see. I think I was mistaken by the six crystals you have in total at 48:35. So those “extra” crystal were taken out from your inventory just to show how many you have in total, I guess? Thank you for the quick reply👍👍
So Ive played the solo scenario 3 times so far, Conquer 2 cities. So, my question is this: is it normal to just get immediately wiped out by the first city you reach (level 5)??? I had 1 white token and 2 purple tokens. The 3 playthroughs were easy enough, got a wound, healed a wound, killed a bunch of tokens, but once I got to the city..... wiped, all 3 times. I didnt have enough attack to kill even 1 of the tokens while all 3 tokens dealt me 16 points of damage. Even if I killed one of the tokens Id be wiped. Any thoughts or advice?? Im feeling like Ive wasted my time and money :-( I want to enjoy the game, if im missing something then please help me out. Thank you. And then the card showed icons for fire +2, ice +2 and fire+ice +1 and a dark face with a +7 or something. I dont get it. If the card is making the tokens stronger then the combat is impossible to win, ever. Please help me out here guys.
Hi There! Did you watch the video? It can be really helpful on the strategy I used to ensure I had sufficient firepower to take on a city. Remember, pick skills wisely, either they can help you obtain more crystals, draw more cards, or even move into the city so you don't have to use cards for it. Next - try and take out some keeps. remember your hand size is +1 if you are on or adjacent to a keep that you have conquered, and that is for ALL KEEPS that you have conquered. In this playthrough I think I had conquered 3 keeps, so my hand size was +3 when on or adjacent to a Keep! When you think of that you can get quite powerful. Units - Did you recruit units? There are some quite powerful units that can help you defend, attack, siege etc. Make sure you go to those keeps, Monasteries, Wizard Towers etc. and get some units! It essentially means you have a larger hand size. That is what I can recommend! If that isn't helping then maybe the game isn't for you which also is fine! You should be able to sell it no problem and you can find something else you love :) GOOD LUCK!
@@OneStopCoopShop Yes I watched the video and it was very informative. I was misunderstanding how to resolve combat for multiple opponents. After rewatching I noticed that I was playing wrong. I will be trying again tonight LOL

This seems a great game, but there is something that stop me to buy it. I have LOTR LCG, core set and saga expansions (just trilogy) I love it, but I find a bit tedious deck building, I have and love gloom of kilforth, I learned it thanks to you, and now it is my fa favorite for solo play. I find both games I wrote about very thematic, about this one I like the mechanics but all seems so anonymous, mathematical and cold to me... it doesn’t engage me enough... I am thinking to buy journey to the middle earth instead, yes, much more simple, depending on app etc. but I love living an adventure and not just solve puzzles, here an event is just flip a token, exploring a dungeon is just defeat a monster... something doesn’t work for me. At the same time, I think I could loose one of the best solo experience... Can you help me to make a decision? What do you think about?
@@OneStopCoopShop thanks a lot for quick replay and your suggest, I appreciate a lot. Keep going on with your great work, your playthrough are always clear and pleasant to watch. I've been hammering away at this game for the last 3 months, twice a week, 3-4 games each sit down. I CANNOT for the life of me beat a level 5 city in solo conquest. Impossible for me for some reason. The level 5 cities are just way way way too powerful for me to ever dream of beating. I played using level 4 cities instead and I BARELY have enough time to finish the second city. I really don't understand what the developer was thinking when they made the difficulty's in the scenario's. I've watched many videos and see that other people can do it but I think its beyond me. The book says that if people are finding the highest levels too easy then they could use rampage rules and megalopolis setting for the cities. Are you kidding me?!! LOL There is no way anyone can ever do that LOL It so unreal LOL A very fun game but it bothers me that I feel like I will NEVER EVER be able to even beat a level 5 city let alone a level 8 afterwards, and in time no less. I have played the last few using level 4 cities. Its a lot of fun but I feel bad that I cant play as the book says to with level 5 and 8. I use 4 and 4 because the full conquest scenario says to use Levels 4 and 4.
Very nice play through, AND, I learned a new rule: I always drew 1 additional card, no matter how many keeps I owned, which I now see, makes a BIG difference for the end-game. THANKS!
I made the SAME error the first few times I played! Really makes the keeps a coveted place to control now right?? Thanks for watching!

Welcome to the channel and thanks for the very nice comments!! We have around 1,100 vids on this channel so lots to explore! :)
It just takes time to get used to it!! Don't give up! It is super rewarding when you win!
I have just played earlier today, I usually start by doing a 'standard' solo conquest to warm up my mage muscles, and then move on to other scenarios. one I would definitely recommend is 'Dungeon Lords' from the base game - mainly because it leads to a very strong deck in a short time.
Awesome!! Thanks for the suggestion!!
1:13:07 😂 that's really a fun way of looking at your wounds. Influence! 🧐
Great stuff, just got MK yesterday and gave the first reconnaissance a go and I’m so excited. Your play through was great, loved the explanation of choices and thought processes. Only thing that was gutting was the expansion stuff I don’t have! 😂
Haha sorry about that!! Thanks so much for watching!
It was about time!!! My fav channel and fav game!
One of my absolute favorite as well!! Thanks for watching!
Well done Colin! Fantastic job.
Thanks so much for watching!!
ALOHA 🤙🏝️
Very good vidéo 👌👌👌.
Thanks for watching!
I've never played before but on day 1 picking movement over attack seemed the better choice since you move more than you attack
For certain movement is fairly important in the entire game as you have to assault those cities!
Jeez Phil you nailed it! Never realized this but it's very true!! Thanks for the additional info!
Thanks! :)
Phone works! And I just move the camera around but I know many people have multiple!! Good luck!!
Nevermind the previous question, just realized you already used up the catapult by then. Anyways, great video, learnt a lot about the game rules here.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching!
Hi, i'm new to MK and on my first introductory game in ultimate edition. I have only one question, when you take your reward at 1:22 (2 artifact cards) does the rule not say that you reveal 2+1 artifact cards and return the one you did not chose?
You have the rule correct! Not sure what I was doing there that related to that (I was talking about a monastery?) But you've got it!
If you have two armor, why take three wounds from the hydra?
Wouldn't your one block absorb one full attack, taking only the second and third attacks?
Remember in mage knight you take wounds first before reducing the attack. I could have 100 armor but if I don't block the attack I still take a wound!
Ok I am sold I am going to buy this game soon
It is glorious!! One of my all time favorites!
@@OneStopCoopShop it looks like a lot of fun whenever I get some money up I am going to get it and know this is not apart of this video but been looking at the Oniverse games I wonder what you think about those games
Yeah, Baby!
Whoot!
1:08:49 3 to move in city? not 2 move?
Only 2 move! I was making it harder!
Oh whoops, I thought it was every card on the AI has the potential to accelerate. No wonder my first 2 games went by so fast 😒
Yes that really helps!
I currently have two unsuccessful (and veeeery sloppy) games under my belt, and each time I come back and watch another video from you to learn more and go "oooooh, THATS how that works" lol thanks for these playthroughs!
Yesssss you've got this!!
I will probably never beat this score lol
A few notes: from the video I learned the importance of conquering Keeps of which I had 4, including one that was perfectly located between both cities.
Thank you!
So glad it helped! Solo conquest is the perfect place to move from the walkthrough scenario. Good luck and don't burn down too many monasteries! :)
You do this so well. Great audio, well played, well explained and just a touch of emotion about choices!
Thanks so much Karl!! Appreciate you watching!
Yes!!! I need a break from JotL and this has tempted me into playing the game that started it all for me. Thanks, Colin.
Yessss!!! Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy your play!!
Love your playthroughs, Colin. I think one of reasons I'm so drawn to MK is the absolutely stellar artwork.
I'm with you it's so clean!
Thanks Kevin! Yeah I was bummed on the spell too but ended up working out! As for the move... well I decided to forget about my skill haha!!
Great playthrough of my favorite solo game ever! Always a blast to play, isn’t it?
Just a really small rules mistake: at 1:30:50 you should have only rerolled the gold and black dice, basic color dice always stay as rolled. Not that it’d make a big difference...
Ahh yes at the beginning of the round good catch!
"I have so many wounds."
*laughs in 12 wounds from a game I played last month.
Hahaha!!!
Ultra illustrative way of explaining an outstanding brain breaking boardgame (my favorite solo boardgame)... thanks for that simple and straightforward explanation, just 90 minutes for a 2 to 3 hours game... I Love Mage Knight!
Thanks so much! Yeah it took A LOT longer to record but it's worth it in the end!! Thanks for watching!!!
Just comment (for future generations) on small mistake at 16:16 as you counted your Cold Toughness as 6 block, but it is 7 actually. 5 base, +1 for ice attack of enemy, +1 for resistance of enemy. Also move into the city always cost 2, regardless of terain printed underneat it
Great game tho!
Brilliant play through. Great format, very watchable. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together.
Thank you so much!! Appreciate you watching!
@1:35:08 when you move into a city you only need 2 movement not what is shown on the tile.
loved the playthough.
Thanks for that and thanks for watching!!

Nice!!! Perfect for me to finally get my copy to the table and learn it properly! As much as I love Frontiers, I need to forget that while I play Mageknight so I don't get the rules wrong!
I hope this helps! This game is such a joy to play, hope you get yours to the table soon!
Can i ask some question. Can i end move without spend all move point. For example i get 4 move points from card so i decide to move just 2 point to village and interact.
You absolutely can
At 1:36:47 you said "use this wound for +2", shouldn't it be +1? Got me confused here! ;-)
Sorry about that!
I would have to rewatch but if it's a token then it should have been discarded! Sorry!
Really enjoy your sense of humor clear joy you experience while playing this game. Also, your explanation of your decisions really helps tie the game together for a new player. Thank you for posting these.
My pleasure thank you so much for watching!
Your Ares Expedition video inspired me to play engine builders and I had a blast. After watching this video I finally stop procrastinating my MK journey. Woah that's totally amazing! Thank you and thank you!
So glad to help!! Hope you enjoy your journeys!! And thanks for watching and commenting!
Colin I want to thank you for the great play through but I have a question for you. At 01:36:17 you faced the frozen catapult with CHILL spell. I think the rulebook refers that you have to use opponent element to deal with Ice Attack...is it right or I misunderstood something ??
Pretty sure you are right and I missed it!
The ice catapult does not have ice resistance, so using Chill spell is ok
Really good playthrough. I enjoyed how excited he gets when he receives/draw good cards. Excellent video to watch.
Thanks for watching!!
Hello,
Thanks a lot for your video. Just a question, when you play the "freedom of the mines" scenario in solo, do you do it in 2 day/2 nights or 3 day/3nights ?
Pretty sure 2 days and nights but id ask on bgg!
16:46 You should take 3 wound from Ice Witch because take 1 wound for any damage you can't completely block first then count > damage5 - armour3 so total =3
Isn't it?
So you take the damage, divide by the armor and round down so that's 2 wounds!
@@OneStopCoopShopI believe you mean to say *round up (not down)
**dies laughing** Aw gees...
XD
Okay, yes I amuse easily. Nevertheless, I just doubled by viewing pleasure because I can move onto that video after this one! :D
Oh you have no idea. This is one of Colin's favorite games of all time, so when he was on the channel he did SO MANY plays of it :)
I still need to break out the Ultimate Edition again. Only have played it once with my Mom, but never solo. Have pre-ordered the new expansion to boot.
@@OneStopCoopShop Ooh. I shall snoop around after I'm done the one from 2 years ago then! :D

Cool!
That's right I decided to make it harder!
Love mage knight ..... about to play it after watching. Would love to see another scenario. Any of them!
Awesome just what I wanted to do! And cool thanks for the feedback!
Great video, as always ! I love Arythea's skills. But Tovak's skills are great too. Specially the attack and defence ones. Yes for another Mage ! I really love Norowas.
Arcane immunity doesn't meen that we can't use spell ;-)
Rulebook :
Arcane Immunity - The enemy is not affected by any non-Attack/Block effects. Effects that directly affect enemy attacks still apply.
Thanks for watching and the clarification!
Very good conquest. Very fun to watch. Your making me get my MageKnight on the table, Thanks. Best solo game ever!!
Just what I was hoping to do with this video!! Enjoy your play and thanks for watching!!
Hey, great vid! Question though. At 1:34:30, you use motivation and grab a blue mana token, which you then use at the start of your next turn. Don't you have to throw away that token? I think you may have also done this another time earlier on.
So that ability is being used off turn so you have it for the next turn!
Take those wounds my friend!! Good luck and most important have loads of fun!!
At 14:10 I do not believe you can save the 2 red mana tokens. Since they are not 'crystals' they are lost at the end of your turn.
Yup I didn't I was not using that for the red mana just was using it to change the die to a red symbol!
*they are NOT hanging around.
Yes someone did mention that! Thanks again for watching and commenting! What a great game. . . .
I think this was the best MK video I've seen, well done!
At 1:26:45 you choose to discard 3 cards just to cycle, I think you could have used them as movement with a wound to move next to your keep.
Thanks for that and good point!!
This is an amazing video. I never played the game or saw a playthrough of the game but this was easy to follow and made me very hyped to play it for myself. Great job.
Yessss!! Glad to help!
Here are things to remember that may help ease into the game:
-Before you start using a map shape for the first time try to practice laying out the map first.
Thanks for this!
@@OneStopCoopShop I just got done watching and here is my feedback.
General:
-One way to not confuse using per turn and per round skills is to rotate the per turn skills vertically when you use it. That way it is easier to remember refreshing per turn skills and not refresh per round ones by accident.
-Motivation got called Concentration a few times.
Rules:
-When you have artifacts as your reward you draw one more than the amount you are rewarded, put the artifacts that you want on your deck and the one you don't want at the bottom of the artifact deck.
Glad to help!! Thanks so much for watching!!
Oh my... can't wait to watch this one. My favourite game!
Hope you enjoy it and thanks for watching!!
It didn't make a difference since you didn't take the fourth one, but it might have if of the first three, you liked the first two best,
I am now 100% tracking you thanks for the catch!!
1:36:50 Did you need to add Swiftness to the block? The x2 wound gave you 7, 8, didn't it? Maybe I don't understand how blocking Cold Fire works.
At 15:05 you would get a yellow token for the start of that turn. You just burned the mana card ending turn to get rid of wound. Then got another turn. At the start of that turn you get a gold mana again. Wouldn't you have 2? Or is that mana only for that turn?
Mana is only good for the current turn vs. Crystals you get to keep in your inventory, maximum of 3 per type!
Thank you for this and happy new years to you as well!

Not sure what you are talking about but cool!

May I ask, Colin, how long you played and much time you used in post production for this video?
No idea haha!! Not short we will just put it that way but it's been way too long for me to remember sorry!
At the end when dealing with the mage in the City you had 6 block from your units and then said "2 block from the wound so thats 7", so i think you didnt need to play the Swiftness sideways to get enough block

When being attacked by the final Red City defender, could you have assigned the 12 damage to Utem AND Fire Golems? So, can multiple units defend against a single attacker?
One you can use the defend ability the other then you can assign damage!
Hi..At 12.23 you moved next to rampaging enemy and had him immediately attack you.. I thought the only way to initiate battle was to use ranged attack or move into another space adjacent to him which activates the enemy attack..
You can also choose to attack them from an adjacent space as your action!
Awesome playthrough, as always! I wish you would also show the First Recon-Mission as well... ;-) Maybe another time? Loving your videos!
Ooooo always like new missions in mage knight!
I have never played this before so I may be wrong but I believe around 1:36:42 when you are blocking you used 1 extra card than you had to since you had 6 block and used the wound for 2 then another makes 9 and you only needed 8. I would like to see another video with this game if you are still wanting to do more!
Yup i ended up with 1 extra block which is fine! Wasn't planning on using the wound until I got it haha! Thanks for watching!
Ok, finished the vid. I loved how everything came together for that last city attack. Super cool to see those wounds coming in for the save as well! Any plans to post another MK vid?
Thanks so much! Just search Mage Knight on the channel I think I have 6 full playthroughs!
Oh glad it helped and thanks for watching!!
id like to see arethea to see if u finish with more wounds as her skills kinda play on it
I sure loved those wounds right??
13:31 actually wounds do not count for Planning tactic, so you should have draw up to 5
Nope confirmed they DO count! Check the faq. Since your opponent does not know what's in your hand any card even wounds do count.
Like your videos. This video explains the game very well. However, could you explain again on why could you gain so many crystals at 48:18? I thought you can only gain ONE crystal for EACH card discarded? Many thanks.
I think that's how much I gained? 3 crystals for the 3 card I discarded. Thanks for watching!
Oh AWESOME! So glad it helped at least a bit, good luck my friend and don't give up hope yet! :) You got this!
Couldn't believe my eyes! The man that taught me Mage Knight is pkaying it AGAIN?! Sorcery! Thank you!
Whoot whoot!! Thanks for watching!!!
Will there ever be a MK2? That would be a guaranteed $1m+ KIckstarter.
Ha for sure!
That was awesome! I'm tempted to repurchase this game. Are all solo games like this? This was pretty exciting imho.
I feel most game are like this! Occasionally you will be blown to bits but overall I feel like every game is a challenge!!
Haha, loved the fire-animation at 44:32! Love these playthroughs Colin. And I can see how much time and energy is involved with all those cross-fades and cuts to get to these lean, engaging videos
Thanks so much! Had a lot of fun playing this! Actually recording Volkare Quest today!
Aren’t you supposed to add 1 crystal to inventory of the virtual player at the end of the round?
Yup I believe I did! The spell card you discard tells you the color
Bard on what you are saying you are doing the right thing JIME is the way to go and don't look back!!
@@OneStopCoopShop thanks a lot for quick replay and your suggest, I appreciate a lot. Keep going on with your great work, your playthrough are always clear and pleasant to watch. I am Italian but I prefer watch your video even if they are in English because of the quality and clarity of your content. Bye, all the best.
Well thank you so much for the wonderful feedback!! Have a great day and good gaming too you!!
4:55 Three heads? I see 6! :D
Haha!!
As long as your having fun that's what matters right? You'll get they're it takes time is not an easy game that's for sure!
@@OneStopCoopShop It is a VERY VERY confusing game for NO reason at all LOL But im getting it, slowly.
A challenge for a challenge sake!
