I love this game, and I love it even more because of watching you play it, and how skilled and proficient you are with it. Your videos have taught me a lot, and I thank you for that! That said, my least favorite part of this game is the dummy timer. I don't like the acceleration due to mana crystals. I think it makes the game feel far too rushed and therefore not as fun. So I suppose it may not make my winning games as legitimate to some people, but I've chosen to ignore the mana crystal rule and simply draw three cards for the dummy player every turn, and no more than that. It's still moves the game along that way, but instead of making the rounds shorter as the game goes on with unlucky draws, the rounds get longer and you get to do more and, therefore, enjoy the game more which is the point of playing a game, last time I checked, lol. Thanks for another fun Mage Knight playthrough, I look forward to the next one 👍😎🚛
Good job as always Grey, I already watched your channel, you give some good advices on your gameplay videos which are very helpful to me. Glad that you and Rolling Solo have a collaboration like this. You make me want to open my MK box again. Thanks
Two of my favorate solo playthrough channels. Highly recommend subscribing to both. Learned a lot from Greg (Solo Playthroughs) with his narration of his moves (and not just the Mage Knight game ) And immensely enjoy the Rolling Solo channel with its vast content. Will def clear schedule to watch this. (Spare 2:30 hours is not easy to find)
@@RollingSolo to be honest, I have yet to play a MK myself ;) Seen so many already, but never got the guts to start one myself. The UE is still on my shelve 😬. Shame on me, I know, but it is one of those games that are just awesome to watch playthroughs of.
14:00 Another way to do it is take the enemy as soon you reveal it. I mean for example, if you explore a tile with a mage tower, you know there's gonna be a purple token there, so usually I leave the mage tower as it is until someone moves adjacent to it, and then you pick your token. In practice, it is the same thing
At 1:09:39 when you are using the stronger effect of Stout Resolve, should you not have discarded the wound before you revealed the tile with the first two points of movement? (I don't think it matters in this instance, but I thought you would have to decide before new info is revealed)
Hey Jay! Just seeing this. It's an interesting question and I'm inclined to think your right. It would make sense that discarding the wound with Stout Resolve would be functionally the equivalent of paying a mana cost for a generic movement card. I truthfully hadn't thought of this before though. :) Thanks for pointing it out!
Nice playthrough. At 48:30, is there a reason you can't play concentration with the yellow mana from source for the strong effect of stout resolve (block 3+2 from concentration) +block from rage, then counterattack (2+2 since you block) + cold swordsmanship?
New to both this channel and Solo Playthroughs. Stumbled here from my (recent) Mage Knight subscription on BGG. Seems strange to not put a link to Solo Playthroughs channel in the video notes.
Hey Tyler! Glad you found us. There’s a link to his channel in the video description and pinned comment. My community here heavily uses the pinned comment as a constant reference.
Maybe a dumb question, but I'm still learning this game. At the end of Day 1, when the dummy player used up their deck, that isn't the end of the round? They use all their cards, but their next turn is "end of round"? I've been playing that when they use all their cards, you have one turn left.
Great question, Ryan! And I have good news for you as it appears you’ve been costing yourself some turns. 🙂 The dummy player only declares end of round when it *starts* its turn with zero cards left it in its deck.
@@SoloPlaythroughs Well I better watch this whole video now haha. I think there's a reason I've never beaten this game in the history of owning. I also didn't know the dummy deck gets the bottom card of the Advanced actions offer. Oye vey.
Hey Jerry! Sorry for the delay here. This is a Megapolis, which comes into play whenever you are taking on a city level from 12-22, since an individual city only goes up to 11. When you create a megapolis, you take the full garrison from both cities in a way that equals the total city level you are up against and all enemies are considered to have the benefits of both cities.
Two minor mistakes in the final battle which didn't really matter in the end: 1. The enemy heroes actually had 5 ice attack and not just 3 because of the blue city. 2. Dodge and weave requires no wounds in previous phases (plural) of combat to give attack 2, so the wound from snowstorm matters. GG
Play the first scenario a couple times. Try to find a couple others to join in the fun. Then switch to conquest and be open for easier levels. But anyway, you will know in about an hour if this is "your kind of game".
The intro scenario is great to ease into the game. It brings in rules as they become relevant so it doesn't overwhelm you. Also it refrains from some of the more complex things and doesn't go on too long. I only play that scenario with new people and not had a bad experience so far.
@@Naruga Yeah - that Walkthrough is one of the best in board games! Although I wish it said at the end, "Once you're done with the Walkthrough, put this book at the bottom of your box and NEVER look at it again!" Concepts like "exhausted" and "depleted" are helpful to learn the game, but I've seen them confuse a lot of players who never fully move on from the Walkthrough to the actual Rulebook.
I havent finished watching yet, but great idea! two awesome solo channels coming together!! One small question about motivation: when you use one of them, dont you have to wait one full non-motivation turn to use another motivation skill? If I remember correclty the skill description says something like "you cannot use another motivation skill until the end of your next turn". I could be wrong, but just wanted to check because you used both skills in Volkare's camp. Thanks for the playthrough!!
Thanks, Michael! And yes - that’s the rule with the Motivation skill. I used the Motivations on consecutive turns, so that was totally legit. I probably should have been more exacting (i.e., clearly used the one skill on Volkare’s turn before the first of my turns that I used one) but I believe what I did was within the spirit of the rules as, strategically, using them both as I did was what made sense (i.e., I didn’t wait to get new information before deciding to use the first Motivation). Hope that makes sense!
How did get rid of the swiftness on the werewolves at the end and only take 7 points of damage? I struggle a lot taking on the cities at the end, thanks so much for all your mage knight playthroughs!
Hey amnesiai! Thanks for the question/comment. I'm just seeing this now and I'm sorry I don't remember what point of the playthrough you are referring to. Can you get me a time stamp? The Werewolves have an attack of 7. So, by not blocking them (which would require 14 points of block because they have Swiftness), I just have to assign 7 points of damage. Let me know if I'm missing something though!
I was sorely worried at the end of the first round! The number of wounds in your deck! Was great watching how you managed it (with all the bad RNG like getting Sparing Power taken away from you) …and part disappointment with not burning down the last Monastery 😅
@@QLeong-xd5re Oh yeah - that first round was rough! Probably sacrificed too much in spending the turns I did to get Counterattack but it worked out! 🙂
I appreciate the suggestion Alessandro. I find that RUclips does such a good job saving where I stop in the videos I watch that I haven't started adding chapters to my content yet, but I agree that they can still be really helpful. I'll look into it!
i just bought this game after it finally came in print on amazon. i want to like this game but the combat is very confusing. so many rules in combat its hard to follow. great video though. love to watch people play this game.
It’s very much on the heavier side of things. Ya, one thing I didn’t like about it was the different types of attack damage and how some defence worked to handle it and others didn’t. When I first started playing solo I learned Mage Knight. The major plus was that every other game was much easier to learn afterwards. I still have it but it doesn’t see the table often anymore. Still a classic in my eyes and a great solo AI.
