Dear Dr. D. I cannot express my gratitude to you for making these videos regarding Mage Knight. I love solo board games. Recently I have been suffering from a neurological disorder, that sometimes makes it difficult for me to understand manuals. Your videos helped me to understand and play this fantastic game. This game is a way for me to forget about my illness for a while. You were the key for opening up this world for me. So, a big thank you to you! You make my days a lot brighter.
So I just finished playing my first solo game. These videos made it so easy to play! Thank you so much. It's a fantastic game too, I think I might've made a couple mistakes, but it's all in learning. Gotta get that leveling on!
Thank you for these videos! I recently bought MK Ultimate Edition, and had been laboriously reading through the walkthrough and rules after spending a couple of days organizing everything. I found you after watching your Fleet the Dice Game solo tutorial, and really enjoyed that, as well. I love your videos, and appreciate the way you teach.
Thanks for the playthrough.... Much easier to learn the basic rules and gameplay, than just trying to read the manual. Which I still do while watching to clarify some questions that seems second nature to an experienced player.
@@BeyondSolitaire I saw that you are doing those more focused break-downs and again "Thank You!". Mage Knight has a lot of rules to learn and having a walkthrough to watch in action makes it much easier to learn.
Thanks Liz for another excellent tutorial/playthrough. I’m looking for an immersive solo game and this one keeps popping up high on people’s lists. I’ve found just the thought of this game quite daunting as out of my comfort zone....until now. After watching this, I reckon I could give MK a good crack!
This is a really fun watch, but it does show me I shouldn't get Mage Knight. I'ts way too much for what I want out of a solo session. Thanks for the in-depth look, it helps a lot when checking games out!
Was it difficult to find? I can't find the ultimate edition anywhere. It seemed cheaper with expansions included. Plus I was wondering if having all the card backings being the same increases the surprise at drawing from the deck?
@@VampguyN85 When I got it, it was widely available. But it seems to have sold out in the last 6 months. I'm located in Sweden, and the stores here no longer have it, and have it listed as no longer available from the manufacturer. You can find it on eBay and Amazon, but at double the retail price, so not worth it. You could try contacting WizKids to ask if/when there will be a reprint of the game. Or, if you're in a hurry, just buy the original version and the expanions. If the slight variation in card backs bothers you, simply draw from the bottom of the deck, or the second card from the top, and it won't be a problem ;)
27:37 Fireball + red mana from the source to take out the Orc and level up would've been nice as well :o And you would still be able to move to the edge of the tile on the next turn after Goldyx would announce end of turn. But I guess leveling doesn't matter all that much in this scenario. I'll still start off with First Reconnaissance once my copy gets here :)
I received the game 5 days ago, and so far I’ve played the introduction and conquest. Fantastic game! I sort of wish there were more expansions to look forward to, but I guess the ultimate edition means it’s finished. Looking forward to trying Volkare sometime soon. Thanks again for the video!
Very helpful. Thanks for posting. I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the rules. So many details but I love the challenge of learning it all. I got a little confused right at the end about 53 minutes in. You announced it was end of the round and flipped over your skill token. Was this the end of the round or the end of the turn? Just want to make sure I'm getting all this right. Great walkthrough! You know the game so well and explain it so clearly and fluidly.
Lovely! I'll make sure to watch every episode. Can you do Solo Conquest or Volkare's Return next? :D PS: You should have revealed those Ancient Ruins at 37:10. Other than that I think this was a pretty flawless run (you did point out the mistakes you made). Would love to see some more complex examples of combat in your future videos. It can get pretty confusing with multiple enemies and Units involved.
Just learning this game now and your video is immensely helpful to hear your decision making! At 11:15 when you explored to reveal a tile, it appears you did not gain 1 fame. Is that correct?
Love your playthrough! Keep them up :) Quick question, if you were hypothetically adjacent to two rampaging enemies, could you choose to attack both in the same combat? (Even though they are on separate hexes)
@@BeyondSolitaire Nice! Would you be able to group attacks like normal when attacking multiple enemies. Or because the enemies are on separate hexes would you have to attack separately on the same combat? Hope this makes sense
@@conorleyden Any action or spell that targets multiple enemies would target all rampaging enemies that you either choose to fight or are forced to fight at the end of your movement phase. You would play out each phase of combat only once, just like you would while fighting one enemy.
How did the hag initiative combat when you didn't move to adjacent square around 37 minutes? You can just fight without moving into square? And how come the hag token stayed on the table?
I enjoy your tutorials but as my English is not first language i use your video as complimentary to Modern Cardboard tutorials as sometimes i dont follow up with your speed lol i guess learning this game is to watch as many different tutorials which compliment each other.
Do you mean the purple mage tower? If so, no-to trigger a rampaging enemy, you need to move from one space adjacent to the rampaging enemy to another space adjacent to that same rampaging enemy.
@@mattclem6753 Yeah you got it, I didn't trigger that rampaging enemy when I moved into the keep because I was moving away from it, not to another space adjacent to it.
Great video... subbed! Would be good if you could do a lost legion game plus something including a city attack :) I own the game (Ultimate Edition) and loving it so far.. only thing I am finding to be a pain re the learning is some of the Combat Mechanics/Special Unit abilities. Great game.. but not quite as great as spirit island :P
When you switched from night back into day, it appears you forgot to add the bottom Market advanced tactic card into goldyxs' deck again. You put it back in the bottom of the advanced deck again by mistake. Yes? Am I correct?
@@BeyondSolitaire I see... It's so complicated. It would be awesome if you could do some combats simulation against different type of enemies with different hands and units. Just some combat simulations . Still going through the walkthrough and it's a tough cookies but i know it will be rewarding in the end. Sometimes i find the texts on the cards to be quite cryptic. I am used to Arkham Horror LCG and know some RPG rules such as D&D 5 and Call of Cthulhu 7 but this Mage Knight has to be the most complex game i have ever approached yet ^^;
Thanks for the walk through, I would really like to see you play more of this game.

Recently picked up Mage Knight and your tutorials have been SUPER helpful to learning the game. Much appreciated for the content! :D

I've been doing a series of videos on specific topics that might help! They are in the same playlist as this vid.

Great guide you really did a great explaining this game. Now time to try and replicate the tutorial 😬.

New to this fantastic game. Thank you so much for these outstanding walkthroughs - so helpful and a joy to watch,
What a nice playthrough! If I can finish up a project tomorrow, gonna reward myself with the game 😤😤
35:16 You could still use a mana from the source for Crystallize right? The mana you used was from your inventory.
great video editing and explanation

When you were moving to fight the hag, why did you not go thru the tomb (grass) instead thru the glade which it would of saved you 1 movement?
Love your playthrough! Keep them up :) Quick question, if you were hypothetically adjacent to two rampaging enemies, could you choose to attack both in the same combat? (Even though they are on separate hexes)
Yes you can! You can go at one or both. Just make sure you have the right cards to rumble... ;)
A really good move if you got the cards!

Thankyou for the tutorial. I really appreciate it
Do you like the combat system? there’s really no risk to it. You go into (or avoid) combat knowing wether you have the necessary cards to win.
I very much do! Don't forget you can still get some nasty surprises (dungeon crawling!). Also, for me, the joy is in the planning.
Note: you can't refresh the units till next round and you forgot to put the token on the ruins
Is the +1 Fame point for exploration a general rule or only for that scenario's special rules?
That's specific to First Recon!

Great fun....when you moved into the keep would that trigger the rampaging enemy?
Do you mean the purple mage tower? If so, no-to trigger a rampaging enemy, you need to move from one space adjacent to the rampaging enemy to another space adjacent to that same rampaging enemy.
No at 4.50 you move from the blue mine to the Keep but are adjacent to the rampaging enemy? Honestly don’t know if you trigger them first?
Apologies...so you can move away from a rampaging enemy? I see

It's something I plan to do! I am just taking forever because teaching online takes up a lot more time than you'd think. lol

You're correct! Pretty sure I commented on it somewhere. I should pin that.
THANK YOU
at 49:32 I don't understand. He is fortified and we need siege for range attack yet you take it down like the others ? What am i missing here ?
Right. Fortified applies only to the ranged/siege attack phase. If he had physical resistance, that would have affected the regular attack phase.

I do have plans to work on this! My output has just been slow because online teaching is more time consuming than I would have thought. :)
Forgot to remove the hag off the board after defeating.
