I think there are still a bunch of armwrestlers not realizing how important for their arm wrestling careers it is to speak English. I for one don't like to hear or read a translation of what an armwrestler has to say, because it is almost never accurately translated; I want to hear it directly from them.
Just think about how much you would want to hear an interview with Ongerbaev where what he is saying is translated on the spot (usually a 5 second translation of him speaking for 20 seconds...). For me that is a 2/10.
And how much would you want to hear Ongerbaev's thoughts if he spoke English? That would be a 10/10 for me.
Also, when they don't speak English they usually aren't asked to do proper interviews. Just look at Ermes how much speaking more English did for him!

When I look at him nothing looks unnatural (even if he takes pancakes) or bloated - its really astonishing. Also his approach of building and keeping longterm gains and muscular/tendon strengths like the "mastodons" (John and Ron) as he called them, is intelligent. Dudes a role model for every younger sportsman/athlete.

He wants to create the picture that he took care of his health and didn't go all the way and still beat John Brzenk. So everyone will say, "Ohh, my good Alexey is geneticly so gifted, he even beated John B. when he was not using his full potential"
In reality he trained like a nuts guy! Full of steroids. Don't buy the vegan bogus. If you look at his training videos, you realise everything is very professional. His gym equipement, his sparing partner (David Dadiakan, Artem Morozov and others). Even though he wants to create the impression he didn't have enough table time...
His ego was massivly crushed when he got beaten by Tim Breasnan. A guy he wanted to teach a lesson and make an "instruction" videos of different techniques possible to use. Well didn't work out so well :-)))
To me this guy has always been a great showman, even though he is Russian and not American.

If it goes well, it means what he did until now was right and enought, if not, he would have to go deeper in the training, like lifting, and even PED which he won't do.
Health > money/fame here. He respects his body, which is really refreshing in this armwresling world full of steroids and careless athletes.

He didn't say he wouldn't dope, he said doping is the last thing, after genetics and after doing everything possible to get the most out of your genetics by training. I don't think a guy who spent all his active sporting career in sophisticated doping programs has suddenly decided he doesn't believe in it. But clearly he has disdain for guys just blasting gear and doing vanity max lifts without taking a more scientific approach. If you look into the doping programs he was on and the scientific supervision of those programs, it will make more sense. The reality is, he's got a reputation for being an elitist and thinks he's better than others, more sophisticated, smarter. He's not exactly Mr. Popularity in the sport. Truth is, he is smarter than most of the other guys he looks down on. Levan and Irakli are guys you'd much rather have a beer and a meal with, but no one in that Georgian crew is going to be accused of being the brightest bulbs or the most well educated in sports science. It's just a culture clash. Then there's the tension from Alexey being a BFF of Putin and a made man in Putin's political mafia. It's obvious Levan has no love lost for Russia's imperialist treatment of Georgia.

@@PahEz Not sure we can say one way or another what he's doing at the moment. Yes, he was deeply ensconced in the Russian doping system. Yes, he was caught dead to rights, and named directly by Grigory Rodchenkov himself. Yes he lied about it. Yes, he took Putin's reward of a seat in the Duma and a handsome financial payoff for his denial and silence. Yes, he got starstruck by Putin and got sucked into his orbit and became a BFF, posting pictures of himself and Vlad, and hung with him at his private b-day party, etc. But I can understand how anyone in the same situation might have done the same. It's not like in Putin's Russia you have much of a choice. Either you defect and get the hell out, you retire and miss out on competing, or you agree to the terms of the system. I can't sit in judgment of his choice.

His country, Latvia, was a subject colony of imperial Russia. When the Russian army takes over your country, the first three things Russia does is (1) ship a bunch of ethnic Russians there to establish a core ethnic group from which to build control, (2) ban the local language in schools and force everyone to adopt Russian as the official language, and (3) install a puppet government and a goon squad national police force to enforce numbers (1) and (2). It's why the non-Russians in most of the former Soviet states that regained their independence in 1991 have such a dislike of Russia. No doubt you've sense more than a little tension between the Georgians and Russians. It even plays out further. Armenia and Ajerbaijan just had a mini-war in the past few months that culminated this week in Ajerbaijan taking about 1/5 of Armenian territory. Ajerbaijan is allied with Turkey and Armenia is more or less still a Russian puppet state. There is serious bad blood in much of Eastern Europe, particularly involving ethnic Slavs. People have lived with it for generations so don't generally talk about it publicly, but it's not far beneath the surface. Notice Davit Dadikyan and the animosity between him and the Georgians. In the eyes of the Georgians, although he's Armenian, he might as well be Russian. He spends more time there than Armenia. Georgians have fresh bad memories of Russian tanks rolling mercilessly into Georgia, slaughtering their people, installing a Putin puppet ruler, and taking over 1/4 of their country not that many years ago. That's why it doesn't matter who Dadikyan is fighting, Levan will go be in the corner of his opponent. Besides that Dadikyan is a bit of an unfriendly misanthrope, it's clear Levan doesn't like anyone who supports Russian imperialism.

@@bpj1720 People might also want to understand that there many Russians, particularly those in Moscow come from the Rus line of slavs and consider themselves ethnically superior to all surrounding peoples.
