Considering his hand position after slipping I think he was trying to unlock Vasili's wrist by turning his hand so it's on top. Vasili would struggle a ton just to defend that and he will bleed energy.
When applying back pressure you have to move backwards. To create back pressure he was going to essentially curl into the table crotch forward shoulders back. Like a banana.
