    This helped me out with mine. My grandpa passed away 10 years ago building one of these and my uncle let it sit in a snowy year in northern ohio for 10 years until i went and picked up on my 18th birthday. It’s got a 4.6 from a old interceptor in it.

    It would be fine to take this nice pick up for a drive... but this is the first video of yours I watched, maybe you have made some others. By the way I find you very professional. Greetings from Santa Catarina State, Southern Brazil.

    I added this harness to my 53 F100 and trying to figure out why my rear turn signals both flash at the same time while fronts work correctly Did you have this issue. Great video

    Nice! What did you have to do for the temp and oil pressure for power? I have a 254 Flathead inline six and someone cut all the wires halfway through a 12v conversion.

      Oh man that is very frustrating to chase wires that aren't original, if I was in that situation I would seriously consider doing the full wiring harness or a universal wiring harness from Amazon. The temp and oil wires were part of the harness so I just hooked them up and then the kit had separate wires that ran to the dash wiring harness that I hooked up to the instrument cluster. Also make sure you upgrade the distributor otherwise you will burn the points

    How long did it take you to install the full wiring harness? I've have never done anything like that. I have a 53 f100 and the previous owner replaced the wiring with red wire and the truck is having electrical issues

    • @gillhe1

      That sounds like a major headache! It took be about 12 hours from beginning to end.

    Awesome video! I'm currently restoring a '56 and just started rewiring it from scratch, and I'm trying to figure out how I want to do the turn signal/running lights up front, which leads me to my question: Does the 2 led setup you installed do running lights and blink brighter for turn signals, or are they strictly turn signal use and no marker light?

    • @gillhe1
      @gillhe1  2 года назад +1

      One of them is for running lights and the other is for turn signal.

      @@gillhe1 nice, I wasn’t sure when I saw you wire the black wires together but I kinda forgot at the time that if those were the grounds, they can be together lol. Would love to see the light output on those since running light is on one side and turn is on the other instead of being centered. Either way, looks great 👌🏼

      I'll try to get a video of how it works, sold the truck a while back. Make sure to use a relay made for LED blinkers, they won't work right without it.

  • @cayugarunner

    great video! Can you tell me where you got the LED turn signals? And dumb question, but are the LEDs orange colored and just go behind the clear lenses on the (old) parking lights?

    • @gillhe1
      @gillhe1  2 года назад

      Amazon is my favorite place for led lights like the ones I used. And yes that is exactly what I did for the turn signals.

      @@gillhe1 yeah I've been searching but I can't find that 2-bulb socket assembly you used. Closest I can find is two separate sockets with pigtails, which I should be able to make work.

    Where did you install your fuse box? Can you show a picture where? Also will I need any extra wires for the kit for extentions or will the kit come with enough?

    • @gillhe1
      @gillhe1  2 года назад +1

      I just put it under the dash against the firewall, wherever it fits will work. I didn't have to extend anything, they all came with plenty of length. I did have to trim it down for proper wiring practices

    Yeah, just looked up American Autowire and a new wiring harness for my '59 F100 is $1100. Jesus Christ on a Pogo Stick, that's almost what I paid for the truck. Might as well pay a few hundred dollars more and have a professional put it in.

    Did you have to replace something on the cluster or does it work with the 12v system

    • @gillhe1
      @gillhe1  3 года назад

      All I had to do on the cluster was add a new volt meter everything else worked perfectly.

    So I have a '54 f100 that someone dropped in a 351 from a 74 torino, but when they did they made an absolute disaster of the wiring. Will this kit work to replace what I have? Or should I look at something for a torino instead?

    • @gillhe1
      @gillhe1  3 года назад

      I would do the same wiring harness that I did in the video, there aren't really any differences regarding the wires that goes to the engine but the truck is going to have difference features than the torino so it would be better to have a harness that is designed to fit the truck.

    Hey bud hopefully this is my last question did you have to use a mini mega fuses with a one wire alternator

    • @ryanvasquez2945
      @ryanvasquez2945 2 года назад +1

      If not how did you run the wires

    • @gillhe1
      @gillhe1  2 года назад

      The wiring harness I got had a single wire from the fuse box to the alternator and the alternator I installed had an internal resistor so I didn't have to add resistance. However if you have about 10 ohms of resistance it should work fine and there shouldn't be any problems with the system balancing out unless you have a high draw sound system or a bunch of lights.

  • @TribeRc

    Did you get kit #510303 made for the 1953-1956 Ford Truck. Im assuming only difference with mine is its a 215 Straight 6

    • @gillhe1
      @gillhe1  3 года назад +1

      Yes thats the exact wiring kit I installed, it won't matter on the different engine just because of how basic the electrical systems are. But the wiring harness is designed to be ran as a 12 volt negative ground systems so if you haven't already changed the alternator, distributor, coil, and starting solenoid then I would start there.

    • @TribeRc
      @TribeRc 3 года назад +1

      @@gillhe1 nice that was my next question. I'm a newbie to this so kinda intimidated by it. So I'll need Starter Solenoid, Alternator, Distributor. Coil l is there anything else? I've purchased 12v headlights, tail lights. Whats confusing me is that the truck has a 12v battery in it now and still has OG Generator and starter all original equipment besides a blue regulator box on fender well. This has me stumped

    • @TribeRc
      @TribeRc 3 года назад +1

      It runs and drives great right now, however I have no headlights or taillights? All wires look bad so I figured to replace harness and go 12v for add one later. But man does it blow my mind thinking if intake the wires loose now that ill never have it running again lol

    • @gillhe1
      @gillhe1  3 года назад

      Yeah it definitely can be intimidating the first time, if you order from American auto wire I know for a fact that all the wires on their harnesses are labeled so you don't have to worry about getting lost, its basically a plug and play system. If you already have the battery then thats awesome, if its getting charged by a 6 volt generator then its just going to cause the battery to run a little low. Best rule of thumb when it comes to 12 volt conversions is if it has electricity going through it then it has to be built for 12 volt power otherwise you will have problems in the future. The only thing that can stay is the starter.
