For those who don’t know, we don’t worship the angel Moroni. It’s a symbol the second coming of Christ and the message of teaching the world of Christ’s mission
The artist who created this statue was, supposedly, inspired by the description of an angel in Revelations chapter 14, vs 6 and 7: And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters."
@@Baseballisbest67 It did. Which was significant, it heralded the closure of all temples, missionaries returning, and covid. The sky was dark and dismal. Now this is put back on, gleaming, majestic, clear blue skies. It seems to signal a change or something complete. Major things in store for our world soon.
How honored I am to say I belong to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and how fortunate my family has to have been sealed together in the lords house in Houston Texas… I hope to someday be able to visit Salt Lake City and see as the statue of the angel Moroni stands atop of this holy house … awesome job to all that have worked so hard 🙏
So glad it's back! With the newer temples not having an Angel Moroni on top anymore, I'm glad to see the Salt Lake Temple have that really neat part of Church History restored.
How lovely! Angel Moroni is back where he belongs atop the Salt Lake temple! He won't fall off or lose his trumpet if other earthquakes come! ❤ Well done to everyone who is working on the temple!
I saw the Angel on top today from the mall bridge in Salt Lake, and didn't realize it was just put there until I got home and saw this video. It was glistening brightly in the sun.
I was on the 2nd floor of the Church History Library when I heard a great commotion by the window facing the temple. There was a crowd of employees and missionaries watching the placement. I went over to the fountain area to film all this. What a big crowd! Happy to see the statue back on top after so many years.
I love how this really is a parable in our own lives. We need to strengthen our foundations against the storms that are sure to come. Connect to the strong foundation of the Savior and his Gospel.
Thankful for each Temple upon the earth, and grateful for the prophet Moroni and all he has done in fulfilling his assignments from the Lord. There is lots more to come forth 🙂😘
Glory to God in the high, wonderful, glorious.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ This is the only living Church, The Church of of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saint on the face of the earth.❤❤❤❤❤ Gather together my the children of God.❤❤❤❤
I love how the people in placing the statue are just the normal workers in their Work clothing. That’s how the Lord gets his work done by the small and simple things and that’s what most of us are small and simple, but filled with the love of God and a testimony of his only begotten Son.
Muchas Gracias por tanta historia sagrada acerca del templo de Lago Salado y la colocación del ángel Moroni en su cima que es un estandarte hasta el fin del mundo. Patagonia norte de Argentina.🇦🇷
We receive The Father by recieving His Son. We receive Jesus by recieving His servants. (Matthew 10: 40) Am recalling with the 1991 renovations there was a new movie I loved so much: "The Mountain of The Lord!" Much of the story told today was in that movie. Hosannahs !
Glory day!!! All may not be well in Zion, but his light shines in moments like this. He approves of this work, and we will not be stopped in completing it. I can't wait until this temple is rededicated in 2 years, it standing for the millenium.
I'm related to Cyrus Dallin. He is my great, great, great cousin. It is really cool that he finally decide to do this. He has done alot of Indian statues also. The Indian at SLC capital is his too. I have the original newspaper when they put Moroni on the temple. It is exciting.

I cannot wait till I travel to Salt Lake City to come and behold this magnificent temple besides the whole Temple Square complex owned by the Church. What if this was renamed Salt Lake City Utah Temple during its dedication? I would support the rename. P.S. Your comments are welcome.
I remember when they put the statue on top of the temple in Manhattan NYC!! It took a long time to get that statue up there. The people living in the building next door were livid saying it would block their view of the city. The church bought the building next to the temple and the statue went up!! The temple presidency lives there along with a lot of missionaries serving in Manhattan.
They didn't clarify if the capstone was new or restored. While others love the angel I care more about the stone. The original was carved by my Great-grandfather Robert and his father William Despain.
What a beautiful heritage for your family! The Church Newsroom reports that items within the original capstone are in poor condition; however, it does not say anything about the capstone itself. My belief is that, if it is at all possible, the original capstone will be preserved as it is a significant part of Church history and of this Temple in particular.
From the Church website: Only five temples feature an angel Moroni statue holding the gold plates. They are the Los Angeles California Temple, Washington D.C. Temple, Seattle Washington Temple, Jordan River Utah Temple, and Mexico City Mexico Temple.
I don't think so. The Angel Moroni atop the Salt Lake Temple is historic and was placed there by the original builders of the Temple. Their purpose was to show an angel blowing a trumpet to represent proclaiming the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ to all the earth.
I think of the figure of Moroni atop temples help remind me that I should try to do what angels do, which is to help bring souls unto Jesus Christ on both sides of the veil. It could be similar to why the ancient Tabernacle of the congregation I believe had cherubim on it.

Who am I to correct general authorities, BUT the angel on top of temples isn’t Moroni. It’s just a symbol of maybe all the angels that participated in the restoration of the gospel, like in the Rev. 14:6. It wasn’t an specific angel, but many. If anything, that angel could be said is Joseph Smith. But again, calling it Moroni can be distracting to our faith in Jesus Christ (like why do we have Moroni on top of our temples) and to the message of the center of our belief to other non-member individuals. This is my two cents.
I share somewhat your concern. This is what I plan to post on Facebook with this video: Progressing beautifully, the amazing restoration of the historical Salt Lake Temple. While we do not worship the angel Moroni, it is a symbol of the Second Coming of Christ and the message of teaching the world of Christ's mission. ______________________ One of the posts to this video was the inspiration.
There’s a good reason and a very special reason that the statue is the angel Moroni. He was the very first resurrected being whom Joseph saw, after God and Christ in Joseph’s first vision. It is because Heavenly Father sent Moroni to Joseph Smith’s bedroom on an evening approximately three and a half years after Joseph’s vision of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Moroni came for a very specific and important reason: to usher in the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and to inform Joseph that he was chosen to do so. This is recorded in the beginning pages of every Book of Mormon. It’s called The Testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith. I encourage you to read it again, and then ask yourself whether naming the angel Moroni is a good reason. It is quite refreshing to read every time I do! In his testimony, Joseph retells of the angel Moroni appearing in his room that night three times, each time quoting the same passages from mostly the Old Testament that were about to be fulfilled, reciting the same passages of scriptures each time, without any variation. He also told Joseph about the golden plates and gave him a vision of where they were deposited in a stone box on the hill Cumorah and told him that he was not to show them to any person until commanded to do so. He was also warned that he would be tempted to use the gold plates for other than the use God intended them for. In the Pearl of Great Price, it is explained in more detail. Joseph said Moroni quoted part of the third chapter of Malachi, as well as the fourth. Moroni also quoted to Joseph the eleventh chapter of Isaiah, saying that it was about to be fulfilled. He also quoted part of the third chapter of Acts in the New Testament. Moroni quoted the second chapter of Joel, saying that this was not yet fulfilled, but was soon to be. Joseph also wrote, “He quoted many other passages of scripture, and offered many explanations which cannot be mentioned here.” Then Moroni ascended back into heaven, then appeared to Joseph in his room twice more that evening and quoted the very same scriptures, without the least variation. After the third visit was over, the rooster crowed, and Joseph realized their interviews occupied the whole of the night. The next day, the exhausted Joseph was sent home by his father and on his way home, Moroni again appeared a fourth time and related the very same things as before, and also told Joseph to go and tell his father about all of it. I truly hope, after being reminded and realizing that God sent Moroni on a very special mission to earth in order to inform Joseph Smith about his great mission as the first prophet of this new dispensation, when the Gospel of Jesus Christ was being restored, that you realize the great and wonderful importance that the angel, Moroni played in ushering in the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to prepare the world for Jesus Christ’s Second Coming! The angel Moroni is playing the trumpet for a reason! It is to let the world know that the Gospel has been restored to the earth, and that everyone will eventually hear about it, “a sounding in their ears” of the good news of God! 😊
For those who don’t know, we don’t worship the angel Moroni. It’s a symbol the second coming of Christ and the message of teaching the world of Christ’s mission

When they finish the salt Lake Temple, were planning to come here for the open house before the dedication.
Is there an estimated completion date?
Very exciting!❤

Umm, he said the next few years, but the last update I remember hearing is that the completion date is sometime next year.
Current estimated year is 2026. Taking longer to complete than anticipated.
Is it the old statue or a new one?
New one, the old one, got damaged in an earthquake

Why have they discontinued putting the angel on top of temples?

I bet it's still hollow inside.
