This beast was used by 653 squadron who were formed during WW2 and it served in Belize, Canada, Ethiopia and Norway and also Northern Ireland during the troubles. Im in no way connected to the army. Im just pretty good at googling and i was bored haha. I also thought I owed Tim a favour for all the great content hes provided us over the past few years. Cheers TimbeGimble 🙌
Flown in many a Lynx during time spent in Northern Ireland with the Army. Seeing that helicopter brought back some great memories. Thanks for sharing my friend
Like the ex-prison, crane, plane etc. & always interesting. Imagine telling the crew & soldiers who once flew in it, "One day, guys - this will be a place to stay in"; they would think you were insane 😊
I know im a little late to the comments but, I found what this helicopter was originally used for. Helicopter Westland Lynx AH1 Serial 241 Register (XZ676) used by Army Air Corps AAC (British Army). It was built in 1982.
I used to fly helicopters many moons ago. Shame they had to remove the controls and the OHCP. The blades are pretty sharp and they removed the rear tail rotor as these can be lethal as well! I suspect the main rotor is locked in place as they can spin with the wind if the locking pins are not used (Called windmilling). There wasn't much room in a standard one unless you had a Chinook or a Westland SAR configuration. Air con wasn't fitted as all you did was open the side flaps to cool off! To be honest I am surprised they didn't give you a safety check list as it still retains it's blades. I have a idea that particular one was used a MediVac. That one is of Type AH7 (AH1). Last recorded flight was 31st July 2015. Built in 1982 for the AAC. Covered 36K flying hours. 2540 TO/LS (Ambiguous)
Absolutely love your videos! Not exploring the country as much as I did when using a family railcard, when kids traveled for just a pound! Your videos remind me so much of the adventures I had with my children, homegrown and foster children, so many memories made!!
I stayed in the USS Yorktown in Charleston with the scout troop my grandson was in. We were given officer’s quarters, just for us. The kids loved having the run of the ship. I was VERY impressed with the quality of the construction. Everything seemed original, and worked as well as WWII, when it was built. It was as if it could have sailed away at any moment. Made me proud. We watched a film in the theater, ate in the same place soldiers ate, went up on the flight deck(windy!), where various aircraft are on display. We wandered around the bridge. Lots of memorabilia have been left in place. I’ve stayed in many places, but this was the most exciting. Well worth your attention.
😲 I'd didn't imagine the Helicopter was near Blackpool either! You got a nice sunny day near Blackpool Tim! Love the woodlands & the yellow fields nearby! That Helicopter still looks so small close up to sleep in! Presumably it's an Helicopter with some History! A key to the Helicopter & a patio with Table & Chairs😂 That's certainly abit different! A cockpit Living Room! Amazing how a Microwave, Mini Fridge & Kettle with electricity like you say & a Little sink! Amazing how you can compact everything into such alittle space! Hope you get that TV working! Looks like a cosy Crash Mat you are sleeping on! Reminds me of the Apparatus at Primary School in PE with the Cosy Crash Mat! It was the same Royal Blue Colour too! Oh no, no Shower & Toilet in the Helicopter! But very novel the Washing Machine, Toilets & Showers & Sinks in a different place, basic but functional! Toilets winning Platinum Awards must be Clean!! Lovely lake & views about! I like the Little Log Pods! Lovely decking with the Pods. The glass pod looks nice waking up to that view from inside the glass pods! Amazingly you do look rather cosy in the Helicopter at nighttime! It was a long way to go to the Toilet in the middle of the night tho!!! So funny seeing the back of the Microwave in the Helicopter window In the Cockpit. Certainly abit of a unique experience there Tim!🚁🚁☀️
BlackBerry wood Hassocks, Sussex has clamping in tree houses,a fire engine, a bus, gypsy caravan, airstream caravan, gypsy caravan, wild and woodland camping. We went woodland camping, it was great having a fire and so secluded. Next time we'd love to try one of the unusual clamping accommodation, would love to see your a review of this place.
I like that one.Happy Days Retro Vacations, Saxmundham, Suffolk does airstream caravans too rent and the kent and East Sussex railway rents out railway wagons and coaches.might be good to try some time.
Love this because my father worked for Westland helicopters in Yeovil back in the days. The Lynx was one of my favourites. Must admit never seen this kind of interior 😄
Love your channel and all the unusual places you have visited in the past few months. Not sure i would call this glamping, but it certainly is interesting!
Would be cool if they had it on a bit of a hill overlooking the campsite , it would look great up high . The only downside i think would be so many of the other campers or kids constantly walking around it for a look
Loved this! Woudn't want to stay in it during a hot summer though, be like getting into a hot car. Still I never would have thought! Thanks for the education Tim!
Wow, wasn't expecting a helicopter! Not going to lie, really would need a loo on board personally but can imagine ot makes a great quirky stay for some. Whatever next Tim?!
Thank you Tim for another interesting video. Most enjoyable, although I think it’s very expensive considering there is nothing provided. Love your car 🚗 especially the colour. The helicopter is a 1982 model. Flown by the British Army Air Corps. All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
That is a cool place to stay. I think you have the best job on YT Tim. You have worked out a way to put up cool vids and spend your whole life on holiday !....rEspect !
Brings back memories for me. So weird to see how it's been converted. In the 90s they were the fastest helos in the world. Might still be if they're still in service.
Haha! We stayed in this helicopter as a family of 4 a couple of years ago! It was a bit of a squeeze but the site is great and brilliant fun for one night.
Great video! You would make a great seasonal travel presenter on the BBC or ITV. Those stationary helicopters are a unique lodging, although I have seen converted train carriages turned into holiday accommodations, mostly in Devon.
Me and my 4 year old watching and we're both amazed! He said he does like your sleeping bag & 'did he have sausages and spaghetti hoops in that microwave' 😂 Thanks for showing us Tim!
Oh my god! I need to book this for my daughter’s next birthday! She recently did a piloting course with areobility and has fallen in love with aviation!
Hiya Tim,what a fantastic place to stay in ,who thought a helicopter would be a place you can stay in,great vlog and did enjoy stay in helicopter, thanks Tim,love your room reviews and cool places to stay in.take care

Great video Tim I am liking your unusual videos they are certainly different I would of not even thought of staying in a lynx helicopter but might do now
Another superb video Tim 👍the empty caravans are those people who keep it on site permanently, kind of in storage.( Used to be a caravanner myself, blocking roads etc😉😜) All the best to you, Gabby and Thumps! From me, Wayne in Stoke 👍
I would imagine that it would be popular for armed forces veterans like myself who have flown on these beauties back in the eighties. The fastest rotary wing aircraft and still in service.
I keep looking at helicopters to add to our glamping site. But the initial outlay just for the airframe is about £20K, Then you need to have it properly converted. It's an idea, and one I'm sure we'll get to one day. Tim, if you want to glamp in a back to basics bell tent, near Hastings, drop me a line 👍👍
Hi Tim,this was brilliant, loved the helicopter room, very cosy with all mod cons too. Nice area with the lake and surroundings, you had a lovely day for it too. Thanks for sharing, look forward to your next one. Cheers take care xx😊
Who knew there was such a thing! 😲Not my idea of a good place to stay though, I need a handy loo, but that has to be in the top 10 of unusual places where you have stayed Tim 😊
We stopped at this site in October last year. The owners told us they have 9 other helicopters. Did you see the winnebago that you can hire too? We got to have a look inside one of the geodesic domes as a cleaner was just finishing with one when we went to look at them. They are amazing inside with a massive sofa overlooking the lake. The PRICE I paid £190 for one night!
A fine review, but that's way too much money for a room with no W.C.
@@EElgar1857 and you have to bring your own bedding. Way too much!
There's the novelty value I guess,...but it would be way too claustrophobic for me 😕
Lot of money but good experience 😉

Imagine playing a good flight sim on that tv looking out the cockpit lol
