🔺Stunning Restoration of a Unique Wooden Ashtray with Hand-Engraved Che Guevara Copper Lid
🔴In this video, I take you through the intricate and meticulous process of restoring a unique wooden ashtray, featuring a stunning copper lid with a hand-engraved portrait of Che Guevara and a distinctive border. Made five years ago, this ashtray had fallen victim to rust and wear, but with patience and precision, I brought it back to life, making it shine like a diamond.
Restoration Process:
1. Cleaning the Copper Lid:
- Used a brass brush to remove the initial layer of rust.
- Applied liver of sulfur to create a deep contrast.
- Sanded the lid with sandpapers of various grits: 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, and 3000.
- Polished the lid with polishing paste to achieve a mirror-like shine.
2. Removing Rusty Screws and Sanding Hinges:
- Carefully removed the lid by opening the rusty screws.
- Sanded the hinges to remove rust and ensure smooth operation.
3. Applying Finishing Touches to the Lid:
- Painted the other side of the lid black for a refined look.
4. Restoring the Wooden Base:
- Cleaned the wood using a brass brush.
- Used a DIY blow torch to burn the wood, giving it a unique, rustic appearance.
- Brushed the wood with a brass brush to impart a golden effect.
5. Final Assembly:
- Screwed the beautifully restored copper lid back onto the wooden base.
