UPDATE: it turns out you can loosen all the screws in the barrel of the lens and recalibrate the infinity focus. I still wouldn’t change my rating, though, as one shouldn’t need to do this to a brand new lens. The screws were set hard, so it’s not like they slipped during shipping or anything.
Perhaps I need to make a video about it. Around the thin knurled section of the focus ring (the part I said was much too small) there are 3 or 4 screws around the perimeter. These have to be loosened slightly and the focus ring shifted until infinity focus can be reached and not surpassed.
• Anyone whos purchasing or purchased ttartisans 35mm f1.4- it has a 39mm filter thread & if wanting to use filters on front of Lens & you already have filters but larger sized ones, just buy some 'filter step-up rings'..for example: 39-52mm, this may save you money, rather than buying same filter/filters in a 39mm size too Enjoy! 👍
I have this lens in silver and it focuses at infinity just fine. I'm guessing some Q control issues since it is from China. Also, BTW its a Sonar formula which for the money is just unreal. Finally the focus ring is narrow but the entire smooth section forward of the ring can be used to focus as well. I use a vented hood on it and the flair is under control. You cant even get an old FSU J8 in decent shape for this price!
What a neat little lens. Maybe the focus can be reset, probably is some helicoid assembly mistake that slipped through QC. Not something an end user would normally do. How servicable are these chinese lenses? Just as good as the old german and japanese ones?
I hope the focus ring doesn't break off as easily as the 7artisans 35mm. I think this happened because there was not enough space between the fiocus and aperture ring, so that you'd stress the rings when twisting it onto the body. My second hand 7artisans 35mm arived with the focus ring already broken, hence I'm looking closely at the space between the rings when considering buying this lens. Weird that the focus ring isn't de-clicked when I've read that it is de-clicked!!
The focus ring on this is actually half the body of the lens. There’s just a small raised and knurled portion, while the rest is smooth. So I can’t see how it could come off - the whole lens would fall apart. And yeah, it’s definitely very clicked...maybe there’s a way of declining it that I’m not aware of?
Hello, I just saw this video because I'm looking for a lens for my Sony A3000, it is mirrorless and E mount .. I would like a good lens for pet portraits and interior design shoots.. which lens would you recommend? Any used, or old E-mount lens will work? Do I need to use only Sony? Are there cheaper brands or adapters combination I could use? My budge is $50. Thanks for your help.!
I enjoy your videos quite a lot! I'm looking for a first 35mm prime manual e-mount lens. But there are many brands out there.. TTArtisan, 7Artisan, Peargear, Meike.. is there a winner on these budget lenses? Thank you so much!
I would say this TTartisan then. Just make sure you order it from somewhere that offers returns/exchanges. There seems to be a fair amount of copy to copy variation. The one I got was fantastic, and has a very clean look. But some others had decentering, and mine needed to be recalibrated (which I eventually did).
Great review! I just picked one up for my Fuji XH1. I’ve been on the hunt for a a lens with similar qualities as the Voigtlander 35mm f1.7 ultron which I adored. Stupid me for selling it. But this TTartisan may be close compared to your photos. (Let’s see). BTW, any word about the infinity focus issue?
I just received my copy the other day and I’m not too pleased with it. Colors right out of the lens are kind of lacking in contrast and color saturation. It’s not as sharp as I thought it was going to be and it’s tricky to nail focus. I do like the aperture clicks and the focus throw and I also like its compact design as well as the very well controlled chromatic aberration but the images are sub par for me. I had the 7Artisans 25mm f1.8 and that thing was great, it’s just the focal distance which I didn’t like. I was really hoping for a gem, but not here. It’s just a fun cheap lens to play around with but nothing close to spectacular. Also...very very prone to flaring! It’s going to be fun getting a hood for something this small I need more testing with it obviously and how well it does paired with flash.
