This actually does a better job of portraying the weight and reality of what has happened to the world in game better than the game ever does. Between constantly searching for better gear, exploring vaults, trying to survive and helping another GOD DAMN SETTLEMENT, it's easy to forget just how much the world was devastated, and the importance of holding onto hope and learning from the past for a better future.

The best story I read that portrayed this in such a strong way was the book of Metro 2033. When Artyom sees for the first time the vastness of the world and can't even comprehend how it worked, imaging planes as if they were some godly machines. It hit so hard to think that there is so much to lose.
Okay, this is some serious talent hiding behind those lyrics and voice.
I've never seen the Commonwealth this way : a wasted world, another proof of human's most powerful light and darkness. And goddammit, that's huge.

In some ways, Fallout 4 is perhaps the most hopeful. This is is the first fallout game in full color, it has people actively building things up, and while the settlement system may have disappointed/frustrated people, you are actively building things up. You are building up a future. Your wanderings can be invested into homes and towns.
Nah id be out west despite all of its wars I'd take taxes in some ncr city with running water and electricity rather than the slums in the commonwealth
Honestly it has a hubris of humanity issue and shows that throughout the game. The most human person is nick, a fake human, who would stand by your side till you died most likely.
I'm sorry did you miss how in like two generations the ncr had electricity, gold currency, anti slavery laws, and everyone's biggest issues were fresh eggs, burgers, and tin siding?

See, the thing Bethesda brought to Fallout, that I don't feel in the older games, is a sense of atmosphere and wonder. This song perfectly captures that feeling. Great work Gavin.

+Sauron The Dark Lord Now i haven't played the new Fallout, but if a dark "you're doomed" post-apocalypse atmosphere is what you want, I strongly recommend Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light.
Fallout 3 and New Vegas (and 4, I guess,) had a sense of beauty and wonder. The soundtrack helped, being almost mystical and ethereal. The originals do not have this vibe - a bit of a mythological vibe, maybe, but it doesn't have the "beauty of the dying world" feeling.

Re-watching this video reminds me that even though Bethesda may not have made the greatest quests or the most branching speech trees in this game, they crafted one heck of a world. Makes me want to get back out there and explore more of the Commonwealth.

Sometimes it's the worst moments in life that sees me back here. Strangely, that's when I really see; these songs are about more than gaming. You draw us in with your fancy thumbnails relating to this franchise or that game title, and instead teach us the ways of faith, perseverance, and hope in one's self. You're musics strangely relatable, and catchy enough for nearly anyone to remember it's lyrics--lyrics that'll keep resurfacing through thick and thin.
Hope is something that people truly need, and this is one of its purest forms of delivery. Thanks for sharing. ~

Renewables are a step in the right direction, but I doubt they are enough alone. No one wins in a nuclear exchange. It is said that in such an event, the living will envy the dead.

One of the saddest aspects of the Fallout Earth, and the USA of that universe, is just how close they were to not reaching critical mass of nuclear war.
With the advent of miniaturized nuclear fusion (2066), the Big MT Sierra Madre matter replicators, energy physics and robotics, the Fallout setting was right on the edge of avoiding the Resource Wars and the Great War, and instead entering into an era of "raygun gothic" space colonization, similar to what the Enclave had planned. Corruption on all sides led to the Great War in Fallout, and by the time the solution was discovered, in 2066, to end resource conflict, the Great War was nearing inevitable M.A.D.
Although it seems to be unpopular to Fallout fans, the Institute has the best potential to rebuild the world under the leadership of the Director, as they are not fixated on the Old World, but using their technology to move forward.

Between the Instatute and Enclave they both have the best opportunity of rebuilding the US waste. The only problem that the Enclave has is its leadership, though the Instatute may circumvent this issue they aren't used to working at such a scale and have a huge hill to climb
I know this is a little late but that’s why I like the NCR, yeah it’s holding onto old ways and it’s turning imperialistic. But they try, they really do, yeah the corruption and how thin they spread themselves is a problem but I love them so much because I can tell, deep down, they want things to be better. They’re like the flawed hero of the factions IMO.
@@jadenlawrence1934 The enclave have only made the wasteland worse. The Brotherhood of Steel has its flaws but offers a far better Chance to reclaim what was lost than the Enclave ever will.

This is an excellent song about the wasteland. It makes me really want a Fallout spin off game that's not about exploring the wasteland and killing everything that moves, but one about rebuilding civilization, promoting peace and healing the world. Why are so many people hellbent on ruling the wasteland when they should be putting things right? We need a game about that; a group of people hellbent on fixing the world, or at least improving it.
Yeah, but I'm talking about an entire game built around that concept. Think something like Civ 5 but around rebuilding the wasteland.
It'd just be a spin off game, but it could be fun.

He's been on record as saying that he hates anything that might push the setting beyond a static "Post-Apocalyptic Survival amongst the Ruins" setting, and has even been noted as saying that he wishes he could utterly destroy the NCR, to send everything back to that state of stasis.

Such a haunting tune - very in keeping with the bleak-yet-beautiful Commonwealth.
This one goes up to eleven! I love the songs that tie thematically to older songs. This one to Beauty Bleak, but the Little Sister/ Dream of the Sky/Goodbye -trilogy are also masterpieces enhanced by each other. Great work!
Someday, i will write an essay on the themes and musical theories interwoven in the callbacks and reinterpretations without jeopardizing the uniqueness of each song on its own in the bioshock trilogy.

It's weird, those fly-through shots do a better job of showcasing the world than the game does itself. Like, when you're walking around, the game is focusing you on the space directly in front of you and below you looking for junk or enemies; you rarely get a sense for how the world is laid out. This captures both the 'physical' composition of Fallout's world and the kind of feeling they were going for, the whole 'pushing through despite everything in a dead world barely holding itself together' vibe. Very nice

It was actually only when I went into free cam mode and got more vertical that I noticed some of the really clever details in how the world is built - for example the shattered highway behind the crashed jet, or the way buildings lean away from the glowing sea in the direction of the blast

+Henrique Chagas For a Fallout game it disappointed majorly in some areas. Story, characters, and the game's rpg elements were all crap. Sure, the gameplay, atmosphere, factions (and their choices), morals were all amazing but Bethesda really needs to make their stories and characters better. Also, stop streamlining Fallout.

Henrique Chagas no. while i love bethesda im not afraid to admit that they aren't exactly good at writing stories or characters. they are only good at gameplay, atmosphere, world building and music (which they do incredibly well, like i really mean INCREDIBLY)
Out of curiosity - how does my original comment state, that the game is bad? All I said is that Gavin's songs are better. This one for example is fucking glorious - which is something few people would say about the game. That doesn't mean that the game is bad though, does it?

A slow, whimsical start to what I can only describe as Beauty Bleak v2.0, with a rythm and motif very Fallout-esque (the general feel, not the actual gameplay). You outdid yourself again, Gav... you really did.
Those lyrics... damn, I´ve had the shittiest of weeks, my stomach churning and heart feeling like its going to burst... and then I hear "And ever and on we go" and "I guess some things never change", along with "We fall, we fall again"... those hit hard, really hard. I guess I hadnt really prepared for them.
But along came Beauty Bleak, and I couldnt help sing along as I cried the best sad tears I´ve probably had in years... and those tears only dared come out with this magnificent song.
So... thanks, Gav. I really mean it... thanks for everything.

Usually an artist's songs has a pattern. Some focus on romantic songs, like Celine Dion. Then there are others focus on heavy metal, like Disturbed. Then there's gothic songs like Evanescence.
I can't find that pattern from you, Gav. First it's Celtic. Then it's Metal. Then atmospheric. Then chillout.
It's like you're bleeding creativity out every part of your spirit bro.
After the ending of Rogue One and FFXV I had an urge to listen to this song on repeat. So so good.

To me it seems the soundtrack of the game itself served as a source of inspiration for this song in addition the games visuals and your previous work "Beauty Bleak".
It would not surprise me at all if that was the case, since I think that Fallout 4 has out of all the Fallout games the best non radio soundtrack by far.
It is actually so good that I do not even want to listen to the radio anymore.

Of course there is no way to truly objectively judge the quality and entertainment value of music which means that if you prefer the soundtrack of the earlier titles then that is most certainly a completely valid opinion.

this whole song made me think about a moment from metro 2033 where the dark ones show you a vision of a mushroom cloud off in distance and you also see men, women and children cowering in terror and you hear terrified screaming. and then you hear one of the dark ones say in a disappointed tone of voice. "they never change" and really as history drags onwards that statement grows ever more true.
I was searching for a bloodborne let's play and ended up seeing miracleofsound's song on the game and decided to listen to it. That was around 11:30 p.m. Since then, I have been going on a miracleofsound binge listening to each song multiple times. I have barely even made a dent in the amount of songs that I can listen to, but it's already 1:40 a.m. ...
Ironically listening to this song after 6 years adds to the feeling and beauty of it. Fallout series is a shadow of former self, our world completely changed through those years and we haven't learned much as species. Weird type of "nostalgia". Never to learn or grow, ever and on we go, leaving those beacons of past on the horizon. I guess I just wanted to say that... Well, it was one hell of a ride and thank you. It's just surreal to return.

Some seriously next-level stuff here. I really love this song. The wasteland is a place of lingering ghosts, but also of untamed beauty. It's the phoenix rising slowly from its own ashes.

That's the cycle of the phoenix. To live, to die, to live again, and so on. The people of the wasteland may one day rebuild a large-scale society, which in turn may one day start the cycle of destruction again, but it will be likely be thousands of years into the future. For people like the Lone Wanderer and the Sole Survivor, their actions help in the rebirth of a society, even it is doomed to again consume itself one day.

By Atom! I.... I.. I'm speechless this represented all I feel when exploring the wastes, reminds me of the sacrifice of James and his son, the nuclear vendetta of Ulysses, the Tale of the Courier, Desmond's pent-up anger toward his old political enemy, and the tragic life of The Sole Survivor, first watching his world burn in nuclear fire, being frozen for 200 years watching his wife die and his son taken away, coming out after 200 years in a wasteland, a mere shade of what his world, once was to search for his lost son, only to find out that things in this new reality are never going to be the same. I shed a tear when I heard this, this song captures it all, and I Thank You, Miracle of Sound, you always live up to your name!

I imagine this phrase being spoken by a Sole Survivor, memories still fresh, through clenched teeth, tears and raw bitterness. Gods, such bitter hatred for the world. So much that is makes more educated companions like Preston, Piper, Deacon and Dance wince.
This is absolutely stunning, and punched me right in the feelings. Kudos. I always love hearing you re-work bits of older songs back into related new songs, it's so wonderfully nostalgic.

After so many years this is still a banger, and this song also added to the idea I formed around the message "War never changes"
It's not true, war changes all the time, new technologies, new tactics, different methods, different objectives. The destruction and death is always horrible but even that has different volumes and measures.
What is it that actually never seems to change? It's Humanity. Sure we grow new modern culture and ideas, we make new technologies, but the overarching theme is always the same.
Warriors go to war, scholars learn, scoundrels mark their path, preachers preach.
Soldiers go to war, scientists learn, underdogs mark their path, preachers preach.
It's different shapes and sizes, but the core is always there. Both the beautiful and the cruelty of nature is ever present within us, the curious yearn for knowledge while the disillusioned yearn for purpose, and where we find no purpose, we find ideology to preach and worship, be it to a god, an idea or even other Humans.

I don't think you understand the "war never changes" phrase. While yes, the methods, the logistics and the strategies change, the reason war never changes is because it's the Death and destruction that war brings that never changes. It only adapts to new forms but the old method of taking lives and destroying properties considered precious by those who live in them, that's what doesn't change in war. No matter how much you change your takes in war, it's the violence that follows that never changes.
Excellent song, though with the desolation that is shown in the video makes me think that this may have been better for 3 that 4, seeing as 4 really doesn't have desolation like 3 or even New Vegas. Great work MiracleOfSound.

I´m guessing that the reference to Going Nuclear in this song is "wasted world, my garden" in reference of "the streets and side walks are my playground" in Going Nuclear. if not that then i don´t see it.

No matter how many publishers try to flood the market with stale as hell open world games, they will never live up to the greatness that these franchises created. Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and The Witcher III are all on my favorite games of all time list and games that I still play extensively today. Whenever I feel burnt out on gaming I pop in one of these and it reinvigorates my love for this hobby once again!

After the new update released, I went back to playing Fallout 4 again. This game still passes the vibe check and I *love* it! I honestly haven’t played this in a while and for once in my life, I’m actually enjoying it and looking back at these old videos gives me a big sense of nostalgia. This song was my favorite to listen to while I ventured through the dead wasteland and abandoned ruins of a fallen country, a truly beautiful and down to earth feeling. ❤
Прям сразу, аж с первых секунд до мурашек. Один из лучших среди крайних синглов Гэвина. Звучанием и какими-то глубокими ощущениями напомнило "The Little Sisters". Местами так и пронизывает атмосфера некой пустоты. Очень хороший трек, вот прям нравиться-нравиться. Да и картинка так нежно погружает в полёт. Видимо "FallOut 4" и не отличается графонием и разноцветными красками, но представленные футажики замечательные. Давненько "Miracle of Sound" меня так не радовал.

This was awesome!! At first I thought it was going to be a really bleak song, but as it went on it got more intense and gave a sense of wonderment and hope. So while over all it was mournful, it had tones of "we are still here" and "we never change, for good or bad. We will try again to live."
