      Great news well done Freddy you’ve made 100% the right decision also you will get the Bonnie back in perfect running order, as l said in my last comment there is little wrong with that engine, l’ll bet one of my kidney’s it’ll be an electrical component due to you taking it for a swim and leaving it out in the rain for a week!
      As your bent on a Royal Enfield could make it a Continental GT? I’d love one but l have 3 bikes and no more room for another.

    It was never a question of if the Bonnie can be saved or not, it was always about how much more money, time, and effort it would take and still be sensible. If Joe wasn't doing this free of charge then a new bike would probably make more sense given Freddies not a mechanic. Very glad someone is willing to fix her up out of more-or-less good will. She did sound decent when you brought it back, I'm sure there's still lots of life left in her! Before I feared that she might end up at the breakers one day

I have been shouting from here in Australia "renew the battery and get a multimeter to checkout that its charging correctly." Thats all it might be. Your Bonnie sat for months with probably a half dead battery, if it has a dead cell and only has 10 volts its never going to charge. Good luck with it, I feel sure Joe will sort it.

    When Joe said he was crying I knew exactly what he meant. I was yelling at my screen to “please Freddie, shut it off!” To have the starter running on the whole time the engine is running would fry so much of the electrical system. He’s the first person who seems to know what he’s doing.
    To be fair, if a professional spent 40 hours working on it you would spend more than the bike is worth.

      @bms2250 7 месяцев назад +8

      @dirkdiggler5164 Didn't he admit that he could look into diagnosing the issue but it'll likely cost so much due to the time and labour? Given its only a low value bike i think he was being honest and upfront. If he was scammer he'd surely tag Freddie along and serve him a ridiculously expensive repair bill. The fact he admitted up front that Freddie should consider just doing an engine swap or getting rid of it probably shows more his integrity.

      The first mechanic was also right: it probably isn't economical to fix it, which is what he said on the phone, not that he couldn't fix it, or that it couldn't be fixed. Joe's estimate of 40 hours times the mechanic's hourly of 90 gives 3600 Pounds, probably as much as the bike is worth. @@bms2250

    • @dirkdiggler5164
      @dirkdiggler5164 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@bms2250 Possibly. I haven't examined Freddie's bike. But with 22k on it, if it didn't run dry on oil or overheat, I'm deducing there should be no reason it would need a new engine. It's an air cooled Hinckley twin, man. I could figure out and diagnose what's wrong with that Triumph inside a time from of between 1/2 hour to 2 hours, maximum. That other dude made it sound like it should take a lot of time and money to diagnose it, which is b.s., sorry but it's b.s.

    Morning Freddie.Yes of course anything can be repaired/restored. After all it’s just a 4 stroke internal combustion engine in a frame with wheels and associated brakes and electrics. Just look at some of the stunning restorations we can see of very very old bikes and cars etc.
    As kids we used to Look in people’s back yards to see if there was an unwanted bike we could ask to take away and try and get running again.
    Those bikes included a BSA B31, BSA Bantam 125, Norton ES2 with sidecar, AJS350 and a Matchless G12. There were others. As 12/13 year olds we used to raid my dad’s tools and fiddle around trying to get them to run. We learnt by doing and of course made many mistakes! We used to ride them around the LBC works on open ground and pretend we were scrambling!
    No doubt your Bonnie can be restored, no doubt! The only question would be how long and at what cost?
    Anyway she is in good hands! At last 😊.
    PS I went to buy some 10/50 Semi Synthetic engine oil yesterday! Nearly had a Heart Attack at the cost!!!!! 😳😳😳

    Freddie, I have no doubt whatsoever that it cannot be fixed by this guy. You are very lucky to find someone. Cars and bikes are a make up of functioning parts. When the malfunction, diagnosing is required. The “professionals” u have sent it to charge too much and their time is too precious to get a fix. That bike is definately fixable but the cost is the cost. You clearly love it so much it is worth it. You wont be sorry. Is there any way we could crowd fund joe some money or a raffle of something. In the meantime Fred get another bike too.
    Please don’t take bike swimming again. If you have the time see if you can spend some time with him to learn basic electrics. I am not good electrically but I have learn to use a voltmeter and have used it to diagnose my house and cars and bikes. Just basic stuff but quite satisfying. Keep on doing your own servicing but maybe a little research so no more cross threading.

    That's great news. The Triumph deserves another chance at munching up miles & Joe and his Dad seem to be the guys that will make it happen. He touched on a very salient point with regards to the garage, which so people forget. Looking forward to watching the journey of it being fixed on both channels. 👍

    Genuinely pleased for you Freddie, subscribed to Joes channel. The problem with having repaired by a dealer is labour costs make so expensive.

    Great to see bike spirit coming together to help, Joe seems to be the true enthusiast, I think he is going to be getting new subscribers from people here watching the progress. I thought it interesting he though the problem was electrical only, let’s hope it is.

    Great uplifting video - thanks Freddie and Joe.
    I loved it when Freddie said "I'll just have to make do with press demo bikes in the meantime..." Ah, the joys of being a RUclips superstar :) It reminded me of time as a "little helper" with certain H-D and Buell demo fleets, when I had the privilege of helping to run in all the latest models.
    Along that road, I met a few amazingly talented mechanics (if they don't mind being called that) and many other dedicated professionals, who understood that helping customers was actually good for their brands.

    Good start looking at the trailer as an retired mechanic myself and one of my pet hates rear trailer lights left light bulb in wrong way around the other stop light not working, but should be fine Freddie, good look, by the way that’s not a write off it can be fixed, if you going to keep bikes and you have some time on your hands, enrol on motorcycle maintenance course.

    I`m going through the same scenario with a 2003 Audi A2, to me its my perfect car owned it for 10 years, it`s only done 57000 miles, so when I was being told, it needs a new engine or scrap it. I kept taking it to different garages hoping for more of a simple fix. I`ve now accepted my fate and found a trusted mechanic who has explained the valves are the problem, it needs new valves and the head refurbished costing £1000-£1500, which is a big bill, but a replacement car would be a lot more and to break it for parts would break my heart. The day before I got the quote I spent £1000 on a long overdue laptop, which I would not of considered. That`s life it has a strange way of testing you when you least expect it. I hope we both manage to save our vehicles from the scrapyard, just means I`ll be skint in January, but lets face it everyone`s skint in January, Good Luck, Freddie.

    Hell ya Freddie, this guy sounds like the kinda guy that you need to fix the Bonnie. Someone that’s gonna do it because it’s a challenge. I’m gonna go out on ledge now and predict the old Bonnie will be back before New Year’s Day. And when you get it back Freddie, you got to promise to not take it swimming anymore! That could be your New Years resolution

    Keeping that bike may be a stroke of production genius. In our modern “throw away” culture, ANYONE could just replace it. That’s where you would lose me. Good show!🏍😎

    It does seem crazy to say the bike is a write off when it's sitting there so classy and stylish looking. Your excitement at the idea of getting your bike back, working, says the bike ISNT a write off! Joe, what a nice guy, that introduction might just have saved your beautiful bike. Can't wait to see the progress of the repair, or hear about it at least. Go Joe!!!

    *_"Make do and mend."_** I'm pretty sure this the credo of Joe's dad, and by inheritance, Joe's.*
    A new engine to fix an electrical issue is poor advice... or thievery. Poor Freddie was looking at adventure bikes, for Hailwood's sake! If any mechanics are reading this, please fall on your own spanner before telling a rider that their bike has done its last ton.

    This channel is much more than the Bonneville, it goes without saying, it is a cultural experience and a rather friendly and inviting personal voyage. But I must admit that the old Bonny became a homely stretch of it. I must confess a good deal of relief by the appearance of providential Joe in the scene. I'll peep into his channel.
    All the best.
    Cheers.

    It's great that the ryumph will be resurrected. The Phoenix Bonneville. well done. You should be encouraged that the first thing joe will do is a full and proper compression test, and then continue from there.

    Great piece of youtube bartering, fixed bonneville for 100k new subscribers ! I dont think will take much to fix bonny. I would start with lambda sensor as suspect got damaged when you changed exhaust and explains why petrol consumption increased and ran badly. You should pre-twist lambda cable before screwing in.

      Very interesting- I’m now wondering if I did pre-twist the lambda sensors enough😳
