- Once upon a time before the world went crazy, a Rolex was just another product you could go to the store and buy. You could walk in, say, “One Rolex please,” hand over your dimes and walk out with said Rolex. That, like many other things, is different now. A Rolex shop doesn’t so much sell Rolexes anymore as it does man the phone to let the patient queue on the waiting list know their day has come. But what if I told you there was a forgotten steel sports Rolex that you can buy for less than the RRP? I can understand that you’d treat this statement with the same suspicion as a stranger’s cough, so let me explain.

I doubt it has that much influence. Anyways, this is a hidden gem. Untill very recently, when I had the opportunity to fit one, I have to say, it's a really cool watch. Still has all the look and feel of a sub, but with a twist. That monochrome look, with that red second hand and red "Yacht - Master" really makes it pop.
Wouldn't mind owning one.
I own this watch since 2015, well its replacement ref 116622 pt dial with fully milled clasp. Since this review 5 months ago, price has gone up 20%. Coincidence maybe, IDK.

I have one and love it, wanted one for ages and never tire of it. There is a lot of precious metal in this and it still looks like it can stand up to a royal oak. I have always been baffled by how reasonable (in rolex terms) they are they offer soooo much more

Bought my first submariner over 25 yrs ago when I was a mere boy. Love everything about stainless Steel. But the thoughts of a rose gold yacht master would be just as appealing now. Rolex definitely make great watches. They are so comfy on the wrist you don't no they are there. No wonder they are so popular.
After this video, it will no longer be forgotten or a bargain, that is for certain.

The YM 16622 platinum is so under rated. It is a beautiful watch. I believe it will become a collector piece. Ignored in the present time, praised in the future. That is the fate of the collector pieces.
Yep, I make a good choice in 2007 to buy a 16622 while everybody else was looking to the Submariners, GMT II and Daytona's. Until this day I still adore my watch!

This watch is beyond underrated. I own one and wear it constantly. It actually receives more compliments than my father-in-law’s 1966 gilt 5513, despite being worth far less than his. The dial and bezel sparkle when the sun hits it. If you like it, buy it and ignore the critics. You won’t regret it.
Got the blue dial 116622 and Im lovin every bit of it. Less hype and I would take YM over sub all day.
I have a yacht master, a submariner and a sea dweller. But this is my favorite and day to day watch, such a stunning time piece.

Totally agree. I’ve had a 1997 Sub, still own a 1990 Sea Dweller and a 2005 YM....all amazing but I have to agree... the YM is a really special watch. If you’ve never actually seen one, the photos never show it off as well as to the naked eye.
Great piece and very undervalued, the Yacht Master.
What stands out from them all is the polished case and rounded sides, so far detracted from the Rolex Professional range and yet still a part of it, thereby exuding sporting-luxury on a different level.
Just picked mine up. Seriously gorgeous timepiece. Couldn't agree more - these are understated, especially when compared to the Submariner. The lume is incredible too at night. Some call it a 'flashy' watch, but in my opinion, not more than my Datejust with the gold bezel and gold dial. The 116622 is a bit more refined around the lugs, but this one is perfect in m opinion. Let's hope these increase value too once enthusiasts realize the value! Cheers.
I have imagined what could happen here is that it could catch fire like the white gold smurf Submariner recently did ... after all, Platinum costs more than gold, and this watch smacks of jewelry like few others, but without resorting to any gaudy diamonds and such. This watch lays on the wrist just like the SS Daytona Panda. Alas, like losing stock traders, the crowd is the 92%.
Bruce Willis nailed it when he wore this watch in an episode of Friends as Rachel's boyfriend. The watch exudes sophistication and power. There's nothing underrated about that.
I own this watch, love it to the maximum. It has an underdog image in my opinion when you compare it to the "throw a stone, and see thousands" submariner in the street. It has its own distinctive beauty, the sandblasted dial, the 3D bezel. A reviewer once called this watch a marvel because it's one-toned (if you don't include the red hands and Yacht-master wordings), yet it brings out so many different contrasts by simply using texture and materials.
That red hand and text is just the cherry on top of that monochromatic cake.

It’s the reason why I got mine, that dial just simmers and has this fairy dust tinge to it in the sunlight, it’s absolutely stunning.

@@HenryPerez_royal_hp Agreed, it's a stunning piece, especially when it catches a glimpse of sunlight, and I mean jaw dropping stunning. People don't realise until they see it IRL. Not easy to capture in a photograph. Still one of my favourite pieces after 7 years' ownership.

Nope it is not any special, It hasn’t got any particular fonctionality or design.
It is still a very cool rolex but it will not be one to be remembered i think.
That being said there is something to be said about the simple rolex dial but in a precious metal

Ive always loved this Yachtmaster. They look exceptional in the sunlight.
I got into watch collecting very young as a kid mostly with cheap stuff and my dad had a two tone blue submariner pre ceramic from the early 90s. That watch was always the bar by which I compared everything until I went into a Rolex dealer in the early 2000s at about 6 or 7 years old. My dad was looking into buying a daytona but I saw the previous reference of this model, the 16622 and instantly fell in love. From then on I always considered this one of the coolest models. I was always disappointed that the model with the platinum dial was discontinued but later when they released the new version the 116622 with solid platinum bezel and solid 904l steel bracelet and clasp I was able to get one through a family connection at an AD for less than retail. That was in 2014 and I couldn't have been more happy with it. The 116622 reference made the watch absolute perfection and to this day I still don't know why this one hasn't gotten more attention from collectors. It has the more tapered lugs that were lacking on the supercase subs of that time, more in line with the profile of the new 41mm sub which I like much better than the last generation. It is a steel sports rolex but has that little bit of precious metal to really kick it off without the lack of practicality and scratchability that comes with a solid precious metal piece or two tone oyster bracelet. The overall clean aesthetic with the one pop of color on the red second hand in my mind is one of the finest creations rolex ever made. I have many other pieces in my collection but this one is my favorite to this day and has been on my wrist most of the time for nearly 10 years now. Fantastic watch for any situation.
This watch is so practical and good looking. It perfectly complements both business and casual outfits. As a finance professional, I get to wear this watch on a daily basis and even slightly shown under cuffs it catches a lot of attention. Truly good bang for the buck. I would highly recommend this piece to everyone looking for that one highly versatile watch. Solid yellow gold is absolutely beautiful and perfect for the summer but its too loud and obnoxious for a daily business wear.

I found out about this underpriced Rolex about 8 months ago... every time they release a video about a Rolex underdog in a few weeks it gains a lot of traction and therefore it will be expensive AF 🤦🏼♂️

YM is an amazing piece. I own the blue face version and it is by far the favorite in my collection.

I love this watch. Wear it everyday. Nothing but compliments. Pictures don’t due it justice. I like it because it is more like a Daytona style case, smooth and classic. Pops in the sunlight or out in the evening. Classic. Bought mine in 2016. Great price

I was on holiday in Krakow, Poland in the summer of 2017. We were in a Mall for lunch and I walked into an AD. A Submariner had just come in and I could have bought it for 5% off but I wasn’t sure about what I wanted and wasn’t mentally prepared. One of the biggest regrets of my life.

I have one. My wife and I bought a matching set for a special anniversary. She has the mid size one and I bought the full size. I thought I would wear it more often summer because of the lighter colored dial and the platinum highlights of the bezel and markers...but...let's just say I wore it less than 10 times in 2019. My wife probably didn't wear it all. Maybe if it was one's first Rolex and the only Rolex it could get some love. But I don't think the Yacht Master would be one's first choice for a Rolex sports watch.

They already have a few of those (Sub, Explorer, GMT Master, See Dweller and DeepSea) all of these are more brushed. It's actually a nice change to see a more polished finish. With that being said, this Yacht Master is actually the dullest one with this boring dial...
I loved my Milgauss until I saw how the polished center links and sides showed up the scratches. Awful.

I like the YM better than the sub. It's great value. One of my buddies picked up one several years ago off a coworkers for $3500. It's just as handsome on a NATO or bracelet.

That’s Rolex for you, making well built watches but with poor finishing and lack of attention to detail. At times cannot work out the masses are so obsessed with Rolex when there are way better brands of watches out there.

Scott Wood just another Rolex bashing comment... Take a look at Patek or AP watches under high magnification and you will find out that even these, much higher priced watches don’t offer perfection.

This has been my daily for nearly a decade. Not as flash as a hulk or pepsi and I almost never see another one in the wild. At the time I dithered between this & a no-date black subbie, and went off the beaten path. Only downside is when I put a gouge in the platinum bezel, but Rolex did a great job polishing it out during a service

@@PhilbyFavourites Was AU$1200 from Rolex Australia, incl a replacement part in the movement (can't recall exactly what) and an impressive polish. Figure if it's getting used regularly it's probably worthwhile every 7-10 yrs
My first rolex and ended up buying another one(used) recently due to the price dip. One of my all time favorites, especially since I rarely see it on other peoples wrists.
I have exactly this watch - I’m wearing it right now. I’ve had the datejust, explorer, GMT Master, two submariners, both gold and stainless and now I have this and I have to say it’s by far my favourite. Everyone wants to look at it and loves how it catches the light and sparkles. It really is a beautiful watch. I think, now that I’m older, that the bigger watches, like the submariners, make you look like a ex-marine. This watch, in my opinion, is way classier and far more stylish.
Once you take a good look at the seconds hand you can't unsee..
The only Rolex I'd wear is the one I already do, on a daily basis: the 36mm Explorer Ref 114270

I don't know if it's worth a video or not, but the TAG Heuer 6000 has always been a watch that fascinates me. Such a misfit, but I tend to like misfits. It isn't really a true luxury watch, but it's not really a sportswatch, either. Do you think it is worth a video?

I'd rather have a 16622 Yachtmaster platinum dial over an Explorer, or a Sub. This is a spectacular watch. I think I even like it better than the 126622 rhodium dial, The red printing and second hand are much nicer than the light blue. However, the blue dial 126622 is still the king of the Yachtmaster line.
This Rolex Yacht-Master 16622 does looks nice. If Rolex would put the GMT 2 movement into this case with a Platinum 24-hour bezel. Matched that with an Oyster bracelet and we would have a winner. Rolex needs to make a new bezel only as all the parts are available.
Purchased my wife the 29mm version at Christmas.
I had bit of a wobble on dropping 4k on it, but the sales guy reassured me into taking it back off my hands at full price if my wife didn't like it...
It's still on her wrist and hasn't come off since.
I have one of these watches and I bought it specifically because its a bargain price and the Rolex community never liked the Platinum dial and face combo. When it goes up in grey market value I will sell it for sure.

I think it would once come under spotlight and the price will go skyhigh. I am full confident with this.
I love the look of this Yacht Master, but as a sailor, it really serves no purpose other than the timing bezel in sailing or marine life more broadly. Unfortunately, the Rolex Regatta Timer (or some name like that) is extremely handy for sailboat racing, but looks gaudy and over-the-top. The Yacht Master featured here could be handier for regatta start sequences if it had a red minutes hand rather than the red seconds hand.
The regatta timer is simply called the YMII and is a rather hidious looking watch.
@@donkremer6019 yeah it's so gaudy and ugly, it's a shame though, because it's such a cool watch functionally. Wish they could make one with the same functionality that looks more subdued and conservative.
OK the rose gold model is rare. But the steel version was transformed when Rolex introduced the YachtMaster with a blue dial and red second hand and a rhodium dial with a blue second hand. Both of them look stunning. So much so that you will have to wait for one.
