The Y.M. is by far my favorite Rolex and with the blue dial I'm in love .

The Yachtmaster is a beast and ATM waaaay underrated. Sure this will change soon!
Blue sunburst dial with red lettering and second hand is far more attractive. Shame we didn’t see both the rhodium and blue dials together for comparison.
Rhodium for me 100%. matches the bezel better

The best comparison of these two I've ever seen. As I said, the YM would be very hard to refuse if it had a non-date design.

The easiest way to define these two watches is, the Submariner is worn by the captain of the super yacht whereas the Yacht Master is worn by the owner of the super yacht.

Everyone has a Sub. The YM has those sneaky good looks and is a more versatile watch. Plays sport/dress better. One of my favorite Rolex’s along with the Explorer, Milguass and Sky Dweller.
I have always wanted a Submariner but it is a little big on my wrist. I bought the 40mm Rhodium Yachtmaster and I love it! The Yachtmaster is dressy and sporty at the same time without being flashy. This is the best video comparing both watches. I love your videos so I subscribed. Keep up the great work!
What colour dial did you get?
I love the watch as well!!!! Question since you are owner did it have the same clasp as the sub? Like the glidelock or is it similar to normal oyster band
I purchased a Yacht Master last week......I'm absolutely loving it. The 'slate' dial with the ice blue secondhand is mesmerizing. It's my second Rolex.

Awesome review of both watches! I own the Rhodium Yacht Master you feature in this video. I wanted a sport watch like submariner, but with a bit more refinement, elegance, and versatility. Something that stood out a bit more in the board room. The Yacht Master, was that answer.

I was going to buy black submariner, once I saw YM 1 with platinum dial immediatly I changed my mind !! masterpiece
Wow this is exactly what happened to me and I finally got my YM !!!!
With a Yacht-Master, you get some bling, some exclusivity, the fit of the Daytona, but with the movement of a Submariner-Date. You will find that dial rotation in rither direction is more practical. The Yacht-Master does not look out of place with a sport-jacket like the Submariner does. But one thing for sure: buy what you want!
Loving these type of videos, you go so in depth which really helps for consideration of possible purchases.

I picked up the YachtMaster 40 Rhodium dial. It is similar but not at all the same as my black Sub. Loving it. Thanks for the macro view.

The platinum bezel has a very unique purposes but something people don’t understand is that even if the platinum get scratched… once you sent it to polish, you won’t lose material in the platinum because of the density …
ADs dont polish the platinum bezel afaik. Have to get it done at a third party willing to do it.

Hi, superb comparison… Fast becoming a go to channel for the watch aficionado.. IMHO the sleek design and platinum bezel wins hands down over the jolly green giant..I’d be interested to know whether you went for the rhodium dial due to availability or choice? 🥂 👍

I bought this YM a while back without the benefit of this review. It was the blue seconds hand ticking away on it's own beat n rhythm, somehow it stood apart from the rest of the watches in showcase. ( including the green sub ) it was an impulse buy n I have not experienced any buyer remorse. Today, after watching your review, yes, I made the right choice for myself. Thanks Hafiz.
Your review should be made accessible to potential buyers of either model who can't decide on which to buy. There s another difference between these 2 watches which you did not mention : 22 hrs. 😃
YM > Sub. All day, every day. (And I own both)
Do you wear the YM with casual outfits?
Savage Papi ALL the time. In fact, I even wore it to the beach today wearing swim trunks and a t-shirt. Then to dinner wearing shorts and a t-shirt. The watch is perfect in any dress situation.
How durable is the bezel? Does it get scratched easily? Does it break easily?
Savage Papi it get scratched to hell as far as I’m concerned but I wear all watches like they’re a beater watch.

Yachtmaster is my favorite Rolex, but I wish they offered an all steel version at a more affordable price. I've never had any interest in paying for platinum when it looks no different than steel.

Getting ready for a Rolex purchase in the coming months. Was originally in the 16610 camp but the Yacht Master is giving a hard run for it's money.
Rhodium YM is a future classic. Glad it has not succumbed to the hype of other models, and is somewhat available.
The YM will be my next Rolex. Thanks for the comparison and advice. I have the Sub.
Nice comparison of the two watches, I've just bought the 40mm rhodium dial yachtmaster ,its a beautiful classy understated watch, the dial looks black in some light & a very light grey in others. I like the platinum bezel as well, it appeals & is something different.

just bought one last week in rose gold choc dial YM 40....absolutely elegant classy and super rich.....fell in love the moment I saw it....and bought it ...my first Rolex.To be honest o wanted to buy GMT /skydweller two tone...... but the waiting period was rediculous .... but then while I was sitting at the ROLEX AD this watch caught my eye Sitting in the shelf and when I tried it in i felt kicking myself as to why dint I shortlisted this one ??? Honestly speaking even if they gave me the gmt/skydweller even at that very moment I would’ve gone for YM as it’s a stunner....I honestly feel it’s got all the best features Of all rolexes put in one.....love the polished lugs... the size is perfection (it’s a watch midway to datejust and gmt in terms of style size class and finess )and it’s the watch which is on both sporty and dressier side.You have to see this watch in person to justify the awesomeness of this watch fellas.

Hafiz, great content as always. For a first Rolex what do you think of thus Yacht Master with blue dial versus DJ41 with bright blue dial. Any recommendations. Also the two blue colors the same or different
Really hard for most people to feel the difference unless they have worn both pieces for a period of time. (not referring to trying on both pieces, but actual wrist time) I can say my Yachmaster is getting more wrist time and appreciation than my hulk.
Even the second markers were aligned. Probably the most aesthetically pleasing comparison.

You can’t go wrong with either. Sub is a sport watch which can be used for dresses. Yacht is a dressy looking watch and can easily be used for sports (as it is a sports watch).
If you prefer substantial size, non-blingy watch, to be used mostly with casual attire, Sub will do better. But if you prefer relatively lesser chunkier, and more shiny watch, plan to use it with more formal dresses; YM might hit it better.
I legitimately love the content, quality and details of this channel you are doing awesome if I may there’s only one thing I would work on.... please for the love of god say “the” when appropriate in the script. You’re doing awesome though!

Does the ym40 bezel hold up against time or is the ceramic bezel of the sub do the job better in regards to durability and scratches etc.

I just ordered a rhodium YM from my ad. and i agree with the comment about the 'no date' A shame the cyclopes eye distracts from the unique & beautiful dial

100m water resistantance doesn't actually mean 100 meters deep water. "Water resistant 100 m (10ATM) Suitable for recreational surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing and water sports. Not suitable for diving"
My favorite is the 116600 Sea Dweller 40mm. And the 39mm Explorer 1.
Submariner for me. The most versatile watch. Both works as a tool watch, sports watch and a dress watch.
Naren Reddy I personally prefer sub too but paying so much over for it than rrp and not considering YM, is what I’m trying to highlight with this video. I don’t mind YM but like yourself, it’s sub for me

Hour markers are bigger on yachtmaster - hard to measure but I’d say they’re about 20% bigger - easily noticeable even when they’re not sure by side (if you’ve owned both sub and YM).

YM has the diver aesthetic without the diver capabilities. Looks good though, and comes in 37mm!
Do you think the YM 40mm will be discontinued in a few years? The fact that platinum is expensive and the production of 42mm Titanium YM increases this expectation.

My speculation is that Rolex is trying to get the market which the Nautilus has right now with the Yacht-Master in the near future.
all silver gold watch prices are rising since corona virus starts 2019..
example, one of this Yacht Master 16628 is a better investment as Same Tier compared to full gold for sub & gmt 2, both even without factory M.O.P & SERTI Diamond gems.
Between the two, I will get the Yachtmaster, but between the Yachtmaster and GMT Master II, I will get the Rootbeer.
Maybe for most of the people It is, in general, the same watch... But Rolex vision its not, Sub Is for all constumers, YM was design for elite reduce sector.

I agree. Yacht is more of a niche market but still preference goes to sub unless you really want a formal looks in the sub, and that’s when yacht comes in handy :)
7" wrist and have a seriously difficult time deciding between the 37mm vs 40mm.
